While the biggest focus is currently on Phase 3 of Season of Discovery, we did get some teasers for Phase 4 and level 60 in the
Phase 3 Preview video
! We've compiled all the updates we've been told are coming in Phase 4 and beyond.
Changes to Weapon Skill Bonuses
As certain Races have bonuses to different Weapon Skills, Blizzard has been vocal early on that they don't want "optimal" choices to dictate what race you choose for your character. This philosophy will be acted upon at level 60, when characters will be able to unlock Passive Weapon Skill bonuses that
do not stack
with racial bonuses.
This Passive will allow you to gain +5 to your choice of two Weapon Skills, and you will be able to swap your choice of two Weapon Skills "on the fly", similarly to how you are able to swap Runes.
Since these bonuses do not stack with normal racial bonuses, it will solve the issue of having an "optimal" choice for classes that depend heavily on their weapons. Those races will still have an advantage in that they already have Passive Weapons Skill bonuses, and can as such allocate their two new Passives to other weapons.
There was no indication on exactly how these new Passives will be unlocked, other than that there will be a "short discovery" and that anyone who wants them will have access to them early on.
Changes to Priest Racial Spells
Similarly to Weapon Skill bonuses, Blizzard doesn't want Race-specific abilities to determine which race you choose. As Priests have spells that are tied to their race, they will introduce a method to unlock the spells from other races.
This means that Night Elves will be able to learn
Furchtzauberschutz
, and Forsaken can learn
Schattenschild
. No word on exactly how these will be unlocked, except that they will be available early on at level 60 and have some sort of discovery tied to them.
Future Gold Sinks
The developers noted that while they will be decreasing the gold cost of certain items (such as profession recipes from
Ziri "Schraubenschlüssel" Miniritzel
in Gnomeregan), they do see the value in gold sinks and that they are exploring different avenues to introduce more of them.
"We think Gold Sinks are important, and are going to explore different ways later on to do that, that are not so directly on the critical path of gear progression."
We can only speculate on what kind of gold sinks this might be, but if previous iterations are anything to go by we might see mounts or other cosmetic items for purchase.
Level 60 Gear Preview
As Season of Discovery has had a big focus on characters being able to play the role they want, and even explore new roles, we will be seeing a lot of Gear updates - perhaps most notably in Tier Sets.
There will be "offspec" tier sets introduced for Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 raids. This means that specializations that lacked a powerful Tier Set bonus in Vanilla (or roles that didn't exist like Healing Mages) will most likely have one from level 60 raids in Season of Discovery.
Below you can see a preview for Tanking Rogues, Retribution Paladins and Balance Druids:
We will also be seeing "most items at level 60 endgame" receiving updates, which presumably means gear that drops from Raids and Level 60 Dungeons, as well as certain quest rewards.
Just like all other Phases, Professions will continue to receive updates and new recipes, including items that will be competitive for Best in Slot lists. It will also be easier to swap profession specializations at level 60, but will likely have a cost attached to doing so.
Which of these updates are you looking forward to the most? Are there any other changes you would like to see introduced at level 60? Let us know in the comments.
