Blizzard must have nerfed this guy with the last update. 58 pally and soloed him without needing to heal. Crappy drops for being a 55+ though.

I saw him, and i couldn't resist trying to attack him as a 41 hunter. I just put on aspect of the cheetah and ran away while spamming arcane shot and serpent. You run out of mana but it'll regen enough for you to continue spamming serpent and arcane. I dragged him to kargath and spun him around the big hill infront of the kargath inn to get the guards to attack him. Eventually it gave me some nice exp and a lvl 53+ green helm + ironfeathers. It was fun :P

If I Read him correctly He didn't technically _solo_ it, He just got enough damage on it, as well as kited it to a place where NPC's were able to assist him to kill it, Think it was beautiffuly done

I was out killing some buzzards and he came up on me. After about 5 hits, I was pfficially owned. He hasn't seen the last of me.

Hey guys,

I saw this on my L44 Belf hunter today in badlands, I started kiting it around while my pet was dpsing it and it died quite fast. Really easy to kite, doesn't move that fast! Btw it gave 1590 exp (rested ofc) and some eye patch with 36 nature spelldmg :)

Killed him as a level 44 hunter. I kited him pretty easily with aspect of the cheetah. Kited him north into the lower mob zone above and around the lake there. he flies just slower than cheetah, so you can run, stop, autoshot, run, stop, autoshot, etc. got ~1600xp and a Mighty Cloak of Intellect...thought it would be better for a ? Elite rare spawn :(

I saw him only once when my warrior was around lvl 40 and was mining in the area. He ate me up fast.

Me and my gf (both 43 hunters) kited him and killed him. Could've done it alone but would've taken a lot more time.

i am a 53 rogue with very descent gear and i just couldnt kill him.

he crits fro around 200-300 mostly, ben when it's getting close and he is about to die, he parries gouges and kidney shots and crits for 600+.

i'll get him tomorrow when i'm 54 :)

I tamed him today. Barely, died twice then have to use a dmg absorber for the first hit to make it. Other then the cool red with black, hes nothing special. ATK speed 2.0, dps was around 46 and 2800ish hp with 3200ish ac at lvl 55. This bird hits hard, hit me from 300-700+ dmg.

so i was just a hapie lil lvl 39 and i was hopping around the badlands lokking for BK to tame and then BAM! dis huge lvl ? red bird pops up and four-shots me and im all like "WTF?1" and so i ask on general "anyone wanna kill dis bird he drops greens (i thot he was a rare, even if hes not he has a good drop rate)" aqnd noone answered so i havent gotten my revenge yet but when im 60 ill be the one eating the remains of Zaricotl MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
or maybe ill let my pet eat the remains, ill bet that will make him hapie

Happened back into the Badlands on some other business.
Remembered my "old mate" who'd spanked me on previous occasions.

This time he found I was 56 and specced up.

I'm eating him for dinner.

lol i "found" him on my lvl 36 hunter and he came for me... he killed my pet but i got away, MAN I WAS ANGRY. I logged on my shaman and BOOM smacked his stupid @#$%^ ass to the ground!... got a green req lvl 50 item and ALOT of grey $%^&.

getting close to lvl 55 and just wondering if taming it is anything but a waste of time. i know most elite pets are not special other than i color when they are tamed(excpt of course for king bang'lash, the snarler and the like) so does he have any special abilities when tamed/

As you can see in the picture, at one time he was very hostile and aggresive... when leveling my first hunter right after release, he made questing in the badlands suck horribly. A guildmate told me now he's not hostile anymore, and it made me sad. :P

Saw this bird on Shatttered Hand while I was running toward the stone-whatever troggs.
I was like WTF? Why is he here with 40s and 41s?
Anyone who trains here in Badlands watch out for him.
Couldnt even tell what level he was with my lv 40 hunter.

If you want to kill this guy you should know:
His speed is around 105%, so you need speed increase to kite him.

He hitted my 43 priest (10% damage reduction) for a little less than 500, you can easily go melee if you are around his level.

Im a level 58 Orc Warrior. I was riding through the Badlands when Zaricotl started smacking me, I was thinking if I should ignore it and run but then it dazed me so I killed it and it dropped a Stockade Pauldrons! I LOVE THIS BIRD! ^_^

Oh my.. Just solo'd this guy at LV39.
Kited him all the way to Thelsamar, no guards helped but I had a clear path.

Got 721 EXP for the kill and a pair of LV50 plate boots.

I kited it in a big circle, using poison, conc and the occasional normal shot. He has such a slow persuit speed that you pet can keep hitting him and you can keep kiting while using Aspect of the Cheetah. Just remember to keep tagging him so he doesn't return to The Badlands.

I trained him today as well. He has Dive Rank 3, the highest rank for dive in pets.

Dive Rank 3 = Increases movement speed by 80 for 15 seconds.

ok guys im a 51 hunter and i soloed thats right soloed him using my beast spec i just used auto atk and let beast and my beast skills do the rest i had to heal beast and he died but that was at 1% health

I ran into him couple days ago while riding through the area in the middle of the map between dustwind gulch, and valley of fangs. It was around 5:30 am pacific time on the uldaman server. I mustve been lucky because barnabus was in the very same area. I actually spotted barnabus on my radar, and hopped off to tame him when zaricotl chewed me up pretty good. Man, he is the size of a dragon ! maybe ill try to tame him at 55 or so, lol.
p.s. i still managed to tame barnabus on the next try

I am a 58 night elf hunter with a 57 gorilla for a pet which has close to 6000 armor and I have bestal wrath ability for him. Anyone know if I can solo this bad boy? I heard he hits hard.

me and my friend stummbled onto him and he chewed us a new one as he we fed him. We rezzed and decided for revenge. We are both lvl 40 hunters and the bird hit the floor without any trouble dropped a really nice green mail helm for us later one! ^^

came across him as a 52 marksman hunter while I was visiting the horde dragonscale leatherworker. saw the silver dragon, thought "cool - rare mob, I'll have a piece of that".

tried the standard "send the pet in, let it get aggro & then shoot holes through it". Normally works fine against a 55 at my level & spec. After I'd finished dying, I looked at him properly & the mouse-over description came up as an elite beast, despite the silver dragon (?). Go figure - I'm fairly sure none of the other silvers I've fought have been described as 'elite' on mouse-over, so presumably he's one of those rare exceptions.

anyway.. i came back & decided to kite him instead, the words "phat loot" hovering around in the front of my mind. was going fine until I accidentally ran through an elemental while I had aspect of the cheetah on & got myself dazed (he's fast - you want to have a movement enhancer on or he'll catch up with you, plus he was significantly better at resisting my wing clip than a 70th level warrior I'd been hitting during a PVP free-for-all a while prior).

third time lucky. kited him halfway across the badlands to just outside Kargath, where I'd been intending to let the guards deal with him, but by which point I'd killed him myself (lets have a quick round of applause for DoT shots).

out of which I got a bunch of junk and some Wanderer's Bracers of Power. what a gip. other than the warm fuzzy glow of killing a rare (elite) 55, he's not really worth killing unless you're such a low level it's already an educational exercise in how to make the perfect kite (cos it'd be an absolute bugger of a job if the standard mobs in the area routinely attacked you).

oh, and apparently the quest item he used to drop exists no longer, and from my experience that's true - nothing but the one green & garbage greys. and i got 1754 xp, but 877 of that was rested bonus.

Not aggressive my foot...was riding through the Badlands (lvl 42 Warrior) when all of a sudden this buzzard and a wolf attacked me. Didn't think anything of it...figured I'd just shoot right by 'em. I was dead just as my feet hit the ground as I fell from my mount...got the message "Zaricotl seems much calmer now that it has eaten the remains of Guderian." Well, as long as he's calmer now I guess it's all right then... ;)

I got a few lvls on this guy as a 60 hunter but seriously think you guys are making this guy sound harder than he is. Downed no prob dropped a green belt :(

Note: didnt notice any special abilities other than the obvious harder elite hits. Was hitting my scorpid between 150's mid 200's

Took him down at 56 warrior after he chased my 41 paladin off.
Took me two tries, three Super potions and a Windblossom berry. :P
He dropped the Ornate Girdle.

Kited and killed as a 40 hunter. I ran him towards Ironforge, and he instantly despawned without letting me loot. :( Will update if a GM is able to do anything, but maybe be careful where you kite to.

The first time I saw him (luckily in the distance), I wondered if he was tameable since he's a really colorful bird. Glad to hear it, a new target to replace my current carrion bird at 55 or so if I still have him.
