Found him just west of the main road, and just north of the path to Zoram Strand.

I've been trying to find Mist Howler for a long time but i've yet to find him. Is he a random spawn, do Ghostpaws hold his place, or does he spawn at a set time after he's killed?

Anything would be great, thanks.

Mist Howler is probably one of the nicest wolves a young hunter can pick up, due to his fast 1.3 attack speed (helpful against casters and for BM builds that plan to get the Frenzy skill), and his fast-as-any-cat pursuit speed (though that may be changing in 1.9 when all pet speeds look to be getting "normalized").

The black SFK worg is a slight bit faster at attack (1.2), but harder to get to solo, and some don't care for the animations on the worgs.

Mist Howler is a Rare spawn, so he might not be in the area on the map when you check the first time; I usually find him west of the path and near the shrine-looking structure there. He has a special attack that can break the taming process, so clear out the surrounding area a bit and be prepared to possibly have to try more than once. Mana potions are helpful in case you have to cast the Tame spell multiple times, and be sure to use the Freezing Trap skill you pick up at L20, as that will help a great deal.

Found him on the southern most tip of the spotted parts on map. Took me hours to find him but I guess I needed to wait for respawn time.

Had to use concussion shot/freeze trap, died several times in the porocess too :)

It also comes with the Furious Howl LVL 1 skill.

As far as i can tell Mist Howler is on either a 12 or 24 hour spawn time (most likely a 24). to tame him i set a freeze trap backed up and started to tame the only problem being the fear ability which caused my failure and death several times but you just need to be lucky. as far as macros go which there were some questions about all you need to do is press the Esc key and select macros from the options, select the icon you want and type the name such as mist howler then in the window below type /target mist howler and you are done.

I've been to this area looking for this wolf and finally gave up and just when I was leaving the area it shows up. Definitely use your ice trap before trying to tame him. Very fast attackes. Worth it.

i just got mist howler today but saw no difference between his pursuit speed as described above and the pursuit speed of a normal ghostpaw (which i had before). Was it nerfed when all of the pets were brought to the same speed? If then, what's so cool about having mist howler?

I am having the same question.... i've been lookin for this animal all day and can't find it.. will it come up on the minimap as mist howler? and does it help if i kill the other wolves in hopes it will spawn?

I tamed Mist Howler today on at 6:50am....4:50am server time on Spinebreaker at 22,28 in Ashenvale. Fast attack dog, rounds out the stable with the Rake and Humar.

I camped him off and on today, hopping a flight to Zoram and scouting around for him between quests. Yesterday I tamed Humar after camping his tree for about 2 hours. I'm making a rather good hunter, I haven't had to wait like crazy to get a named or elite pet. I found Dishu right away and only one I've killed and not tamed is Takk.

I tamed him today at 7 am . NOBODY was on, i just logged of at the spot he was sopposed to be and when i stayed home form school today i logged in and there he was.....AWSOME pet, great AS(1.3) and the itercept/pursuit speed is not that bad either.

Anyone else think this is a good way?

I have 3 hunters 1 troll and 2 Ne's and i love hunting the rare pets all my hunters only have rare pets. I heard of mist howler and decided that i wanted a rare wolf instead of a worg and none of my hunters are high enough to get Snarler so i decided to get Mist Howler.So i went to his spawn place waited a day and there he was just walking around. He was a hard pet to tame. He has mad DPS for a wolf and when i was almost finished taming him he feared me somehow and i had to start over. He almost killed me, but i did get him my 10th rare pet.

I'm now on day 2 of trying to find Mist and nothing yet I'm begining to think he doesn't really exsist.

Can someone give me the exact co-ordinates to his spwan place so I can camp that instead of running round in circles.

first I am confirming that mist Howler is on a 12 to 24 hour spawn time and that it has three places it spawnes, all lining the path between the north entrance to Ashenval from Dark Shore to the Zoram Strand. Mist Howler does not start with it's Terrifying Howl ability (fear) it only starts with the buff furious Howl (increases the damage done by all party members during their next melee atack with in ten yards). Mist Howler is best tamed by setting a freezing trap then begining taming it, the reason for this recomended strategy is becuase you have a very high chance of being feared.

Found him today around 11 am MEST (after 1 day searching). Taming him was quite easy after the comments on this page. I drunk every potion which seems to fit ;), set a frost trap and then did a concusion shot. He feared me once, but I just started taming again with arround 60% HP and .... it worked (5% HP left).

got mist howler 24 hrs after maintance, 1pm est on lightning blade so if u want look for him anywhere from 1am-4am, and then again around 1pm-4pm cuz their is a lot of ppl that run thru there and not a lot will leave a rare mob alone.

great little tank, nice attk spd for a wolf, faster then avg chase spd.. just all around a great pet, furious howl works nicely with my aim shot too.

now ive got echeyakee and mist howler just need to level up.
mist howler aka Nighteyes.. and ive yet to pick a name for echeyakee.

i can still spawn this white lion for another 4days or so on lightning blade alliance side so let me no if u want him.

scracky is my rge, and hunter is Fitzchivalry.. fitz has a weird I in the chivalry part that u make by holding down alt and hittin 1 1 6 4 release should make his I in chIvalry

Been camping there for a week. I'm a 22 Alliance Dwarf hunting him in Horde territory on a PvP server. Got ganked about a half dozen times so moving around from spawn point to spawn point just didn't work for me.

Spent a lot of time hiding in the roots ans bushes around 18,30 and frantically switching between track humanoids and beasts. It's just off the path between the main road and the Horde camp on the strand.

Saw him at 18,30 three times. First two times he feared and killed me and was dead when I rezzed. This time he was in the bush I was hiding in when I spawned and was literally chewing on me as I materialized. Died again after being feared but he was there when I came back. Got him in the freeze trap and he didn't try to fear this time so I got him and did cheetah speed through the woods back to Darkshore. By that time, with a week of being killed behind me, armor was down to about 50%/

If you're after Mist Howler, don't get discouraged if he keeps fearing you. Sooner or later you'll get to do a tame where he doesn't cast the Terrifying Howl.

When I hit lvl 23, I'll be camping Humar in Horde territory using lessons learned from my experience with Mist Howler:
- Carry LOTS of health, mana, and armor potions/elixirs.
- Carry extra armor pieces as I'll get beat up a lot.

i think Mist howler is on very long timer o i think 24 hours.

I had him and got him up to 27 and abandoned him on accident o well just use Humar the Pridelord...

But I got him at like 2-3 am EST so u might want to check then if you are having trouble finding him

Got him finally on Frostmourne :D

Same as below I managed to get him at the northern most spawn point. Took 3-4 days of checking back just gotta get lucky.

Doesnt seem to have a plaeholder mob, he was wondering in his own little area. Watch the fear otherwise easily captured :)

I found him on my first try at looking for him. Didnt have any trouble tameing him either, but I am lvl 34 too...lol.....Just used the freeze trap and got him np.

Why is it that no one i hear who is trying to tame a rare or hard to get mob never mentions the Magic Dust that the Dust Devils in Westfall drop, it puts the target to sleep for 30secs and has a 30 yd range, tame beast is a 20 sec cast, and has a 30 yd range. And, assuming you fail the tame, laying down a freeze trap beforehand and using the Magic Dust, there is virtually no way you can mess up.
P.S. The dust devils drop about 1 of 10 for me.

After five days of camping I managed to locate him. To my luck he was wandering on area with only few Wild Bucks on his side. I placed down Freezing Trap, fired Concussive Shot and started taming. Just when I was about to finish he used fear and I was like "Oh sh-!", but at that moment I saw that blessed blue pillar and then he was excaping with my hunter. I was lucky and it had positive influens to rest of my day :)

looked for only 30 minutes and found him! garithos server at 7:30pm server time on 9/21/06. i got very lucky here. he spawned right infront of me at 21,35 and it was a little tough for me to tame. killed me the first time since i failed. then feared me twice and a rogue came along and almost killed him. had to bribe him in order to let me tame. finally success on the 4th try. this pet is friggin so fast and he attacks so well. what a great find!

It was really hard to find him. I camped nearly 3 days, by logging every hour in. And on the 3'th day, i found him at the upmost northern spawn point.

I abandoned my part-time worker cat(a Moonstalker Matriarch) and started to tame him. Everything was well when at the halfpoint of the tame channeling he howled that fear and my HP was so low but i didn't give up and drunk a pot and started again to tame him. This time i was lucky and he didn't howl.

About this pet: He is amazing. Incredible run speed, really nice attack speed, and also cool skin.. He is the king of the wolves.

At 8:44AM on Cenarius, up north of Maestra's Post. Used /target macro to find him, set freeze trap, concussion, tame. Feared me right at the end but still got the tame. Sweet.

7.5 hours, 67400xp, 2 begs of med leather (had to make most of em with light) and I finally got him. I threw down an ice trap and pulled with a tame. I was successful 1st try.

I found him at exactly 18.6 - 30.4

Here are his stats

I just got my Mist Howler not thirty minutes ago!

For some people, I guess Mist Howler was nothing to find and tame, but for others, including me, that S.O.B. just would not spawn! Three days I hunted him in Ashenvale! Had the macro set up and everything, but no dice, unfortunately. Then, last night at 8:00pm (C.S.T.) the server reset and I heard from someone that when the server resets, the rare spawns wont actually spawn for 24 hours. So, I waited until exactly 8:00pm tonight, wich was about 30 minutes ago, logged in, and the first thing I saw was Mist Holwer! It was magical. hehe! I'm really happy now.

Taming him was easy as hell for me. The first time I did it I $%^&ed up, though. But the second time, I just laid a Freezing Trap, backed up, used Concussive Shot, and began taming! When he broke out of the trap, he was more than half way tamed and he didn't fear me and I tamed him! I'm really excited now.

So, I guess, for those of you that didn't know, anytime there's a server restart, wait 24 hours, then go to the loation of the pet that you want to tame, and do it to it!

Tamed him this morning around 11:00 eastern. Heading from Zoram outpost I saw him within 5 min by the path on North side of it. Not to far NW of the ruined pavillion. took me 2 tries to tame, he feared me the first time. I set my freeze trap to close and it gave way to fast. Trapped him again and got him. Good looking wolf.

This guy is a pain to find when you are looking for him. I saw him once when i was 25 and killed him not thinking about the tame, I also didn't know his nice attack speed. Then when i found out i kicked myself in the ass. Now I cant find him, and why can't there be more rarespawns with wolf skins, not WORGS wolves, worgs are wolf wannabes.

Had been looking for him for 2 days already and its hard to encounter him... the reason for this is that it spawns in an area a lot of people pass/quest ...

So luckily i had this day of so i thought if i stand up a bit early most kids are at school i have a bigger chance, since its on a 12 hour spawn time and not many people quest there at night i figured...

So at 10 AM i found nothing at first, but when i checked again around 10.30 i found him on the western most spawn place on the map... he was on the road to the beach... i found him using hte macro :D

So i (filled with joy) immidiately dumped my runner wolf place holder ... put down a freezing trap, used conc. shot to pull him and started taming, with the conc. shot and freeze trap you're able to tame him 1/2 to 3/4th of the way already... unfortunately he feared me when i had like .5 or 1 second left :o
So i wing clipped him fled went out of combat and tried again, the second time he feared even sooner (at around 4-5 seconds left)
Third time did it for me, he didnt fear me and i have a cool wolf with 1.3 AS now :D...

I need another pet to go with my Bezekira, an Elder Nightsaber I've had since I started (hugs!), and I love the look and stats of Mist Howler. Like always, my luck either sucks or rocks. It was both this time. I was scouting out where to find him, and just when I was about to say "screw it" and pull Bez out of storage for hunting, I FOUND HIM! SUCH a pretty wolf, and he was just west of Maestra's Post. However, I'm only 21 now, and he's 22. Noooooo! I couldn't tame him and had to run away. I'm so sad now. But I've got lots of rested XP, so I think I'll go hunt some of the ghostpaws for light leather and some fast XP. If that fails, I'll wait for the server to restart. Thanks SO much for telling me that! I'm making sure the rest of my friends know that. :)

EDIT: Just got him earlier tonight. Got super-lucky! I finished getting to 22, and was just cruising around to see if I could see him, figuring that he'd been killed in the five or six hours since I'd last seen him, and there he was on track! Got him on the fourth or fifth try, too. Freeze trap + concussive shot works WONDERS. As long as he doesn't pull the howl on you (did it every time JUST as the taming was about to finish), you only have about five or eight seconds left on the tame when he breaks free of the trap, which helps a LOT. And yes, he's fast, he's pretty, and he does mad DPS. I love my new Perrin! *Hugs!*

Following all the advice on this page, last night I set my baby hunter (level 23) up in the northern of the two spawn areas, took a quick look around, then quit for the evening. When I logged in this morning, there was Mist Howler, right in front of me! A single freeze trap was all I needed - tamed him on the first try. :) Thank you all for the tips on where and how to find him; I love my fierce little wolfie!

Man, he was a pain to tame. Hits quicky, and muscle tears, fears, and rends. Ouch.

What are the chances? I decided to read about other pets on Allakhazam and decided to go have a look for Ghost Saber. Since my hunter was logged in Ashenvale, I checked Mist Howler's spawn one last time and saw his dot on my minimap. Oh yes, he adds to the collection of my Narnia characters.

I found him around 11 am or so at the Northern most spot on map. I was lvl 22 at the time and using the concussion shot to lure and freezing trap trick I ALMOST got him. He broke taming and I had to fear him. Next try, I did conc/trap and it said he interrupted tame right at the very end, yet he tamed anyway. :) Really nice looking wolf. I still cant decide if I should drop him and go for Slavering Worg or not.. Worg looks nice and evil.

Well the things i like i about this wolf is... well it's fast attacker (speed is 1.30), and wolf's are 1 of my fav animals, (other than ravens, lizards and etc) and that Wolves are, good hunter's pets ^,.^ Than theres the bad things... first of all wolves aren't all smart in this game, and the other thing it was 2 weeks untill I FOUND THIS WOLF, and that pissed me off XD

im a level 32 elf hunter and i recently found and tamed this bad puppie and he wasnt a problem for me as he was when i was level 23 he didnt even try and fear me at all i am very happy with my puppie his name is MistHowler so everyone knows whut kind of wolf he is very hard to level tho seeing as we are ten levels apart and he doesnt hold agro very well.....

I tamed Mist Howler last night at around 10PM EST. He appeared south of the road leading to Zoram Strand and West of Maestra's post.

It took me three tries. I planted a Freeze trap and waited until he was in position. I then fired a concussive shot and began taming. After breeaking the trap, he immediatley used his fear ability. I turned right around and feared him myself and ran.

This happened twice, until one time he decided not to use the fear. That is when I completed my task.

All I have to say is... HE IS FAST!

This morning I found Mist Howler at the northernmost point indicated on the Allakhazam map (10AM PST). Unfortunately, an Alliance paladin came along and not only ganked me, but killed the wolf while I was doing a corpse run!

Tonight I decided to camp for him and after about an hour and a half he respawned at the same point at approximately 9:30 PM, so it looks like he's on more like an 11 or 12 hour timer.

I had success taming him by using an ice trap, using concussion shot, and immediately taming while he was stunned and then frozen. He only had 4 or 5 seconds left on the tame timer to attack me and didn't get a fear off.

He tamed at level 22 (yes, not 23) with a 1.3 attack speed and Furious Howl rank 1. No bite or claw, but he learned the free Growl rank 3 even though he had -10 training points.

Wow, I've never had so much trouble taming a pet before... Found it by accident; was taking a hippogryph to Astranaar from Darkshore and just happened to see his mark on my map. Noted his location on the map and ran back when I got to Astranaar. He was 22, I was 29; figured it'd be easy. Laid the freezing trap and pulled with concussive shot. Everything was going like normal, he came out of the ice and did about 4 of those stupid special attacks, cancelling my tame. He kicked my butt the first try. Ran back to my body and rested, tried again. He again proceded to kick my butt, but fortunately I finished the tame this time. :)

does anyone have an idea about that skill?
bcos when i was trying to tame this wolf he used "fear" like skill (i guess it was intimidating growl) several times when i was actually finishing taming.

Tamed him today @ 26.7 18.4. Used Really Sticky Glue 强力胶水 and freeze trap. The tame didn't work the first time. Don't know why. He killed me in short order as I'm only level 22. Came back with the same plan and it worked.

A spawn point at which I've never seen her, but sitting there by herself, so no adds to worry about. And of course she caught me with a fear right at the end of Tame attempt #1, so I just turned around for #2 and hoped my hps held out.

I tamed Mist Howler last night about 18:30 PST. I am a level 23 hunter. Taming was easy using ice trap and concussive shot as described in the other postings.

Just a word of advice - be sure you have plenty of "meat" to feed your wolf after taming him. My previous pet was a cat and so I had lots of fish in my bags to feed my cat. However, wolves don't like fish or clams. Fortunately, I had a couple of pieces of "crispy spider meat" in my bag that I could feed him. This allowed me to run back to Astranaar so that I could put him in my stable and use my cat to quickly collect spider meat, strider meat, bear meat, wolf meat and stag meat so that I had enough to feed him to make him "happy". Wolves will eat anything that has the word "meat" in its name except for clam meat. Note they like crispy spider meat but they do not like gooey spider leg.

Apparently, you can't throw down a freezing trap during the encounter. So after dying and buffing up, I threw down a trap, froze her, and was able to tame her quick. I didn't need to pop any mana pot.
