Senior Game Producer Tom Ellis put out a statement on X, formerly Twitter, announcing that the Auction House has been temporarily throttled as a way to fix lag and performance issues.

Problematic AddOns
Throughout time, there have been a variety of AddOns designed to automate the functions of the in-game Auction House. This can cause a high amount of traffic sent to the system all at once, causing freezes and slow-downs as a result. As a temporary fix, the Auction House received an increase in the number of throttles, meaning less operations can be sent per unit of time. This should help ease the stress on the Auction House and keep problems from worsening. This fix is implemented with
further maintenance coming in the future

Increased the throttles on the AH, addons will have a particularly hard time with these. Just temporary to keep it alive while actual fixes are worked on.
During this time, the Auction House may still have a slower time processing all of the traffic being sent through its systems. It may take a while to create auctions, buy out items, receive mail, etc. Rest assured knowing these problems are being looking at and further solutions are to be implemented during next maintenance period and into the future.
