I have used this at level 58 to walk past an Elite 58 who was blocking the entrance to a house (Quest is "When I hear Smokey I get violent") in EPL.

Worked a treat. Doesn't Vanish you tho - so if you are targetted - they can still hit you even though you cloak.

I made one a while ago on my hunter, it's fun to use in duels... The guy thought I jumped off a cliff and ran around looking for me... I was hiding behind a steam tank :D

Aside from duels, I havn't really used it except for avoiding some hordie guards...

I used this today to evade a 60 pally that was trying to gank me (44 hunter). He was practically right on top of me when I feigned death and activated it, and I watched him spin around trying to find me as I ran away. So it appears that this grants total invisibility (as he likely would have seen which direction I went if it was just regular stealth).

I've also used this to sneak past annoying elites and town guards.

Pretty situational (like all engineering items), but it did save me a long corpse run in the Hinterlands today. Definitely falls under the "where does he get all those wonderful toys?" category.

Also, unlike stealth/shadowmeld, which break as soon as you start casting a spell, invisibility breaks AFTER the spell is finished casting, which makes it great for healing classes who can use a nice big healing spell uninterrupted.

I'm going to test to see if it works with hearthing later... that might be fun to try

This device does not backfire.

It puts you in invisibility for 10 seconds, which is broken by taking most actions.

You can be seen while using this the same way as a rogue or druid in stealth.

+stealth level gear and talents do not affect this.

You can use in combat, but it will not de-agro mobs. It can however be used to sneak past mobs.

Very useful for warlocks who can (in PvP) DoT a target fully and use it, making him run around looking for you while he suffers through 10 seconds of pain. I killed a 60 epix war at 53 using this (was a double death, but earlier in battle my net-o-matic backfired so might have been a total win anyway)

I tried it out and here's an awesome new graphical effect for it. I didn't see it listed in the patch notes but it'd definitely new!

The effect is like that movie predator. You may or may not need your graphic settings on high to view it.

true, but now you can't see the enemy. Anyways, you can see the friendly target when using the trinket.

Worked like a charm today for my twink in WSG. 1 priest was draining me and another shooting me, used trinket and they didn't even get a glimt of me :D

the most important feature of this device is that the invisibility breaks after a cast...

for example the shadowmeld was nerfed to break in the begining of a cast, which prevents nuking from invisibility...

because of this difference -this device is good for healers - it gives you 1 safe heal and probably second until the enemy finds where you are.

because of the big CD i use it only on duels or outdoor, it is fun when a rogue gets you under 20% and then you suddenly stealth and appear in full hp :) (i play shammy)

This item has now been officially Nerfed.

It might be mildly useful, but don't count on it.

Instead of simply turning invisible, you now have the joy of "Frodo wearing the Ring"-Vision (its dark and blurry).
I haven't fully tested it (only once and hour... ) but have verified:

- it deselects your target
- you can't re-select; you can't even *see* mobs
- it seems to last less time than it used to

Have not tested PvP.

Blizzard have recently changed this item, Now it is like the mages invisibility, it works on everything, mobs guards, players. BUT you cant see anyone else while your in the "ghost world" as you get into when you use this item.

i am a BM spec hunter and i love this trinket during pvp. i just send my pet at them. if things get nasty i just use my trinket. then i got invisible but my pet is still attacking them. what is also great is that i can see where my pet is so i know where my enemy is. hahaha also there is alot where you can go in 10secs so i can run away and start firing again

I dueled a level 60 while waiting for the zeppelin at Orgrimar and disapeared and he said he couldn't see me. Then I asked a couple of 60's in TB to watch me to see if they could see me when i turned it on, same thing, i was gone! and only 3 meters in front of them. I'm a lvl 28 by the way. So this thing is awesome, especially for lower levels with quickness potions against gankers

Sadly this item is one of the most useless Engineering items I have made. I hope they change it because as is, it is worthless.

This is why it is useless:

1) The stealth cannot be activated while in combat.
2) The durration of Invisibility is way too low compaired to the cooldown. 10 second duration with a 1 hour cooldown makes it useless since it doesn't break combat like the rogue vanish skill does.

The only thing this item has going for it is that movement speed is not reduced while invisible.

I'm a level 34 Gnome Rogue doing Gnomish Engineering, skill at 240. As I see it the only way this item would be worth the parts is if it either #1 broke combat, or #2 had it's cooldown reduced to say 20 min or so. Without either of those things it is a waste of a fused wiring.

I was on my 29 Mage and I had just finished a quest near Sun Rock Retreat (Horde). Durring the quest I could see that someone was invading SRR because of Local Defense and the random people saying a rogue was shanking them. So I need to go to turn in the quest and get the out of town before I got ganked too. So I hearthed to SRR and I got to the quest giver and turned it in. Right then I heard a dismount noise and saw the ? rogue sprinting towards me from behind. Within a split second I was running and RIGHT before he got to my back, I popped on my Cloaking Device. Literally, a half a second more and I would have been troll meat, but as soon as I popped it on, he ran directly over me and was so suprised that he stopped and ran in circles 3 times from where I dissapeared. I was able to get to the windrider and fly safley to Crossroads.

So evidently, this trinket works for lower levels against higher levels (or the rouge could have been a dumb ass) :P

EDIT: Also, to answer the question below: Yes, attacking during invisibilty will break it and using this mid-battle (which IS possible FYI) will NOT break any aggro on you. This is useful for skipping mobs or a last resort for PvP.

this item isnt extremely usefull but a nice travel device to have in that trinket bag. i been using it when i want to get past a mob, or have to get past several mobs, this can give you a headstart before you start getting hit, the 10seconds is enough to pass 1mob, or several if they are close. i use this to get out of caves, mines, or skip as many mobs as i can as headstart. might be better off just using the jet boots, but if they backfire they could get you killed just the same.

there is no backfire on this, it will always do the 10seconds, that you can count on. it cannot be used in combat, and cannot be stacked with jetboots or other trinkets to run faster. it can probabaly stack with cat form, sprint, pack, or any spell to run faster, but not trinkets. but you CANNOT use this in battle to drop aggro, and you CANNOT stack this with jet boots or stopwatch to run fast when invis, they will put 5min reuse on each other. you might also get use of this to sneak up on players in pvp, the 10secs is plenty of time to appear right on them, or plain disappear and escape, once combat tag drops. if player doesnt have see invis spell/potion/perception, you have 10secs to run in any direction to get away/hide.

i also, for some reason, make good money selling the schematic for this. and you can too! if you look, you can buy it off vendor in mountains for like 20s i think. i keep picking it up, and selling it in AH for 1g+. its always there, if they bothered to look it up they could save the money, but, hehe, more profit for us!~_~

this thing has saved me LOTS of times! i always wear it in case some ganker tries to kill me. when they do i pop it, send my pet at them(im a 54 lock) and start preparing a soulfire spell, which has a 6 second cast. so this baby right here let me stay out of trouble until i send it, giving me a huge headstart on the ganker!

i even killed a lvl 60 hunter earlier today! thats 6 lvl higher!

even if you dont want to fight back, 10 seconds is most of the times enough to get you to safety behind a tree or something similar so you can summon mount and get away. :3

See, I'm a warrior, and I love this trinket. Only thing is, is that I want to be able to use it in PVP. The problem is that I don't really have any abilities to use it with besides Shoot T_T. So I was thinking, and it hit me....can Gnomish Death Ray be used while invisible? I know it would most likely take me out of invis because of the damage, but is it possible?

This item is actually very useful if you hate being beaten down by level 60's who are bored, simply because the invisibility works on all levels no matter what level you are. I've heard rumors about it and tested it with a level 60 friend while my engineer is only level 25 and he couldn't see me both times I used it. So if you have a skull from the other faction chasing you just pop this baby and hide in the trees.

What it you had 2 cloaking devices? I've got this Healing Lantern (Everglow Lantern), that would be so totally helpful if I could have another one...

Might be useful for those of us without invis.

(especially after getting gang raped in the middle of harpy land! woohoo!)

In Classic, if you use this in combat it'll drop aggro from mobs. It works almost identically to Vanish.
