After installing patch 3.2, it has come to my attention that my Skinning Knife has transformed into an Unbalanced Axe. I haven't heard anybody else mention it yet, or read anything online, so I guess it's just a freak accident.

And no, I haven't sold it by mistake as it sits in my supplies bag, in the middle of all the pots and bandages ;)

Worgen skinners will have the joy of a free inventory space; their "Flayer" racial removes the Skinning Knife requirement in addition to +15 Skinning and a faster "casting" speed when skinning a mob.

I had this on my druid enchanted with Fiery Blaze Enchant which has now disappeared? Anyone have any idea why? I would never delete my favorite skinning weapon of all time. Did they remove my skinning weapon?

In MoP Beta this now has a +10 skinning enhancement; the Mining Pick has +10 mining and the new Herbalist Spade has +10 herbalism, super news for fresh gathering alts.

I hear that the bonus to attack power from a fishing pole in combat is based on your fishing skill, so bonus attack power with a skinning knife would presumably be likewise based on your skinning skill. Don't think it's a knife to consider using it over anything else, but it can suffice if you forget to repair your weapons.

just for anyone who isn't clear:

this knife needs to be in your inventory for you to skin a mob.

the finkles dagger (UBRS) / zulian slicer (ZG) can be used as a replacement for the regular skinning dagger but it will not give you the bonus just in your inventory but will allow you to skin mobs.

The only real use the plus skinning had was pre-BC and when BC first came out and you started to get your skinning to 310~25.

I only make these points because It's handy to carry one of the special knifes in your bag just in case to equip it for that little bonus, just in case blizzard adds something new in one day. Plus it allows you to skin just like a normal knife.

I'm a level 53 orc warrior on alonsus and i raided Bloodmyst isle and killed a trade supplies person and in the next 2 hours i got 20 of them and they each sell for 20 copper, i think and now i have 2silver! i'm thinking what i can spend my 2 silver on....KANG THE DECAPITATOR!

If you just make a new char using daggers or swords, THis is great for you. First of all it has NO level require ments so you can get right when you get to a vendor there, Second of all its only 82c, and last of all its better then a worn dagger.....

Well I was out in the wilderness grinding some cats for the leather when my Rogue's dagger broke! I had my skinning knife in my inventory and I must say - it's a great backup knife if you are very very desperate for a new weapon of some sort. Strong(ish) and fast(ish) , this blade is pretty good.

There are a dagger and a sword, both with +10 skinning.
The dagger dropps off the beast in UBRS, the sword drops off a boss in Zul'Gurub.

You will need one of these and the +5 enchant on gloves to skin e.g. Onyxia or corehounds/Magmadar.

Is there a better skinning knife in the game then this? I heard that there is a skinning knife that drops that adds +10 or + 20 to your skinning ability but im thinking its just a rumor. I couldnt find it anywhere in Alakazam or thobot. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Rough Sharpening Stone can't be applied to Skinning Knife. I went and got skinning on my level one near Brill, then went back to the starting area and tried to use it as an uber weapon there. The knife is still better than the starter weapon one is "born" with but you can't buff it with temporary enchants.
