The staff and gloves are appealing upgrades if you get this quest done in your early 50's, but will be upgraded pretty quickly at level 60. The trinket, on the other hand, will last you well through your 60's.

Agreed with Kadaan. While the staff and gloves might seem tempting, don't take them. They'll be soon replaced by better items.

The trinket, on the other hand, can be used an indefinite number of times, and is a great way of restoring mana over a period of time. In raids, couple this with mana spring totem and / or Mana Tide totem, and you have yourself a great way of restoring mana to your party members over time, helping either healers / casters a lot.

This is the last part of a quest chain, the first part being either Mastering the Elements or Elemental Mastery (different start NPC, same end NPC), then Spirit Totem, then this.

The trinket is nice, but unfortunately it is in effect, a water totem, so you cannot have both the Water Spirit and a Mana Tide/Stream totem out at the same time. Unless you're spending most of your time in raids, you might be better off taking the gloves or staff.

WORD OF CAUTION: The trinket will use your water totem slot. You can't have both the trinket and mana tide active at the same time. Be careful to not use the trinket when you have another water totem out!

Seeing how I'm a DW shaman, the only reward I would consider taking is the trinket. Since I don't have any points in the resto tree, that will be a better upgrade to my mana totem.

the staff can be quickly updated with angerforge's battleaxe from brd and a +22 or +30 int enchant can be thrown on it fairly cheap the gloves could be upgraded im guessing but the trinket will make grinding a LOT faster.

Why oh why would you ever waste a trinket spot for 648 mana.... and to say that you'd use it through your 60's, please tell me your kidding. I would rather take the staff and vendor it for the 5g than show my toon @ 60 with that trinket. There are SO many more useful trinkets, even the PvP trinkets out there at lvl 29 are better that that thing.

With the upgrades to Mana Spring in 2.3 even the trinket is now lackluster (still better, but only marginally). It would be nice if they upgraded it to more of a Mana Tide effect, or made it a totem instead of a trinket. The XP awarded has gone up quite a bit though, so I'd still do the quest. I might take the staff as a reward now though since it vendors for 4g and some change.

IDD now that mana spring is much better, the trinket is not necessarily the best choice. I guess it would give your party and you a couple of extra casts in a reasonably short space of time:

Enamored Water Spirit
24 sec of 27 mp2 = 324 mana

Mana Spring Totem Rank 3 (lvl46)
120 sec of 13 mp2 = 780 mana

Mana Spring Totem Rank 4 (lvl56)
120 sec of 17 mp2 = 1020 mana

Mana Spring Totem Rank 5 (lvl65)
120 sec of 20 mp2 = 1200 mana

Mana tide simply blows it away with 6% total mana per 3 seconds over 12s.
Even with a lowly 5k pool, this is 1200 mana in 12s.

You also have to take into account that mana-spring totems also cost around 100 mana to summon, where-as using the trinket costs nothing.

Can anyone tell me if this quest is worth it for a Shaman to do? Trying to find someone to help with the Sunken Temple is not easy. Is it worth the XP do complete this quest?

I just spent 1,5 hour in the instance, only to find 4 feathers: 2 Amber, 1 Blue and 1 Green..

The mini-bosses Mijan and Zolo were nowhere to be found.. Is this a bug or can't you rely 100% on all 6 mini-bosses to be there?

The mana totem seems like the best choice at first, even after reading these comments. But think about this:

If you are leveling enhancement (which you should be) the mana totem is worthless. At this level you already have Shamanistic Rage, which almost always brings you back to full.

For leveling, grab the gloves. They give the highest benefit. Not to mention the crit rating is nice for the PvP, if you prefer leveling that way.

Indeed, especially when you get Totem of Wrath, Elemental is a fine leveling spec. On PvP servers it can be difficult at times (first toon I've leveled that can't deal with Warriors), but you can destroy Hunters, so what the heck. There's a great elemental leveling guide on the WoW forums that makes a good case for leveling as ele.

this is all good info. but if you have the boa trinkets and staff, vender the goodies. but more importantly. everyone is forgetting 1 thing. are the feathers inside the instance or outside the instance?. lol. so does anyone want to give a fyi on where the quest items are? or is the vender items.... more important? lol

I used the dungeon finder to get a group for ST, but as soon as I entered the tank and heals left because of the dungeon it was and the other two dps left because we didn't have a tank or healer. So, I soloed this quest as a lvl 52 DW shaman. It's pretty easy with heirlooms and rares from instances.

I'd say the trinket too. You'll eventually end up with better gloves than those, and the staff is pretty poor really. The trinket however can be usefull for ages to come.

The tinket also works for party members too.

In a group of 5 mana users the 300mana x5 people is about 1500mana. Considering resting and pulling you could probably put this in every battle.

Like diamonds, tinkets are forever!

If you eve plan on playing as a level 60, the best choice is the trinket: Enamored Water Spirit

There are several other gloves such as Gordok Gloves and Earthfury that will replace the Azurite Fists.

The trinket is unique and since it is a mana spring the resto talents will increase its effectivity by 25%. The shaman talent review unfortunately removes eventide so you lose the extra 10 seconds.

1.10 with talents: 573 mana restored
1.11 with talents: 405 mana restored

Doesn't sounds like much, but when in a party of casters, its a nice filler between mana tides.

There are some fights where every bit of mana helps, so if you choose the trinket you will not regret it.

i can't stress how handy this trinket is! It may not b usful at the time, but when you start doing end game instances, it makes all the differance.

It does 34 mana regen per tick while the normal mana totem does a measly 12.. which is slightly higher if ur resto spec.

So take the trinket! Also, you will almost defintly get rid of the gloves and weapon in a few levels.. so they are useless

Everyone is posting arguments about the rewards. And only one quest comment. Its so annoying to read through all that crap for nothing. Can anyone actually give any tips on the quest? Other than the obvious, you need a group. Who drops them, drop rates, are they in a certain spot or everywhere, group size? Anything is greatly appreciated, thank you very much :)

even at 70 i still use this trinket, im a restoration spec shaman and it helps loads, the amount of mana it returns may not seem like alot but when stacked with mana tide right after and a mana stream put down later i can refill my mana bar in no time flat, this thing has been my favorite trinket and i will never ever get rid of it, considering the fact it cannot be vendored why in the heck would anyone ditch this fabulose trinket? ive seen shamans in full teir 3 prior to the patch this and some epic trinket, (not saying "Therefore it has to be good" just saying thats gotta count for something right?) but anyways staff, replaced with 2 hander in BRD within like 3 levels fists? replaced in like 3 levels with gauntlets of elements, if you messed up and got either of the others then the trinket page a GM and tell them you messed up or regret it later!

Lots of walking here. Go inside the sunken temple and make your way into the instance, once you reach the basement there are stairwells that look like corners on the outside of the minimap that lead up flights of stairs where the named feather holders are standing on the balconies. This took me a while by myself. Since I did it at 61 and I didn't get any experience from the mobs, I dodged them and ran straight to these mobs on the balconies. Each one looks like they are creating some green magic and can be seen from the center of the dungeon on the basement floor. This makes you wish you could fly over from balcony to balcony instead of walking all the way down then all the way up. I think if your lower then 60 you should bring a group. The only valuable reward is the trinket, unless you have better.

they drop the feathers
once the troll bosses are dead other bosses will be available to kill

ok since no one else seems to want to talk about the mission or offor any help in any way aside from telling us about the trinket i will do what i can to help.
Go to sunken temple (there is a great map for it here on thoughttbot,.. Infact, open another window and anter this address for the map: http://i.www.wowhead.com/cata/search?q=s/o/39604.jpg . **its also called "the temple of Atal'Hakkar") as you look at the map take not of all the big "C"s on the map. these are the guys you need to kill for the mission. Enter the instance and there will be two paths right infront of you. take the one to the left and kill the two mobs standing there. then fight your way up the stares to a large circular hallway. Follow this around and be on the lookout for any staircases that deviate from this hallway. and look for little arias on your mini map that look like filled in lowercase "u" this is where your mini bosses will be. once you fight a mini boss just hop back up the stairs to the big circular hallway and continue around untill you reach the nect staircase or ramp. sory if this sounds a wee bit confusing. cant think of any better way to describe it. If you just use the map here on thottbot in combenation with your minni map you should be able to find all the mini bosses just fine. PS. unless you're lvl 65+ i dont recomend soloing this. its easy to get overwhelmed by a group of 6 lvl 45 elites. the constant melee attacks make casting anything that is'nt instant nearly impossable.

Mana Tide Totem rules. It will follow as you lvl, and increase in mana restoration. But if you think about the trinket, you'll understand that when you're at end-game and have 6000 MP, the trinket will only restore just a little bit of your total. Anyways its better than the other rewards, because when you're 50 it makes no sense to get gear you soon will replace with better.

Okay...

Upon entering the instance, take one of the hallways in the middle. At the end of the hall, take the stairs up. Keep going up, then go up again, and then up and... for kicks, why don't you keep going up?

You're going to want to get to the highest level, the Hall of the Curse. When you get to the Hall of the Cursed, you'll be making a full circle around it to get to all the balconies.

Some of the entrances to the balconies will be along the wall to the Pit (inner ring) of the dungeon. For the others, you'll need to take the staircases on the opposite side of the inner-circle. If you have to take the stairs... once you get down the stairs to a level with a couple mobs, take a hard turn and there will be either a small staircase going up or a hallway (don't take the far stairs and go down). Follow and you'll meet one of your 6 undead.

Rinse, repeat.

Its some pretty poor choices for the other rewards here, I mean the staff makes no sense at all, a strength buff on a staff, unless your a druid how does it even make sense?

The gloves are not bad but like said above your get better gloves later, even outland green gloves will be better then this.

So the trinket is the only real option here. Besides, trinkets are a rare thing, armor comes and goes.

Sunken Temple, such a fun place. This quest is the exact same quest my warlock had to do for the same type of reward. Enter the temple. Go straight up the stairs. Top ring there are two inner places and 4 you get by dropping one level going outter side of the ring. THIS IS NOT SOLO-able unless you are a 70 or so. I ran it with a 70 rogue last night. The mobs take 1/2 health away. I could not heal until the rogue was on the last mob or all would attack me. My shaman is level 52. I do not think we need to go into way the trinket is far the best choice. As for the location of the quest giver, Terrin Mill, go to river, cross river, turn left and he is a ways down on your right.

I know you all hate those comments saying 'blah blah, I solo'd this, I rock', but it is a possible solo as a 63 Shammy. Bit difficult with some of the mobs, actually not terribly bad once you get the hang of killing things as fast as humanly possible.

Just a quick thing to note. When you enter the temple, don't take the stairs directly to your left, take the stairs on the left that you have to fight a small mob to get to. Otherwise you'll end up on the wrong level filled with dragonkin. :<

Oh, and don't jump down into the pit of refuse unless you can bubble or something. >.> Learned that the hard way.

Trinket = 324 mana over 24 seconds for all party members.

Mana Spring Totem (at lvl 70) = 240 mana over 24 seconds for all party members except you. You only profit from 120 mana gained, assuming you do not have points which decrease mana for totems.

So for your party members, you're giving them 104 more mana back over a 24 second period every 3 min or so.

To do this, you are sacrificing a trinket slot.

I know people who won't sacrifice a +40 spell dmg enchant for spellsurge which restores more mana back than this trinket does. And most trinkets you're replacing give a lot more benefit than a measely 40 spell dmg.

No thanks. I mean, don't get me wrong, you have to take the trinket... but don't ever use it once you get a real one to replace it. It's for your bank off-situation set.

People posting about the DW need to remember: this quest was in place before Dual Wield was available to shamans when 2.0.1 came out. At the time, you needed to sacrifice a talent point to get the ability to use 2h mace and 2h axe (it's where Shamanistic Focus is located), making the staff the only available 2h weapon to all shamans at the time (granted, without stormstrike you lose DPS if you melee). So, it was okay for shamans that needed to melee (for whatever reason).

All you have to really do is kill the glowing green guys. get a Lv 70-80 with you to kill the mobs. or you could just join a regular group. and yes i know the gloves are good but how offen you find a fast mana trinket with a low cooldown?

Even though the staff and gloves look AMAZING, they will not last you until endgame.

THe trinket will. It is FAR better than your spell totem, recieves buffs from talents, has only a 3 minute cooldown and best of all IT COSTS NO MANA.

Make sure you get the totem, it will easily last you endgame and people will love you for it.

the trinket costs NO mana. if ur going solo anywhere and ur out of mana, mana spring totems (the one from ur spells list) will cost something over 200 mana, so basically,the trinket gives FREE MANA.i dont know, but maybe it could save ur @$$.

As others have said, take the trinket. Unfortunately, when I did this quest, I was soloing most everything so I decided to go with the staff. Bad choice. Now at level 60, I am grouping more and the staff is looong gone. Sure wish I could go back and redo this. Consider in a raid if you have 10 or so reling on mana. That's alot of mana to spread the love.

Cooldown is 3 minutes, it does NOT stack with other mana totems, you can increase the amount of mana and duration with restoration talents, it does take a water slot so if you drop another water totem, the trinket totem will disappear.

i dont think its really worth the effort to go for the mini manna totem... it ony generates 320 mana per person over 24sec... thats nothing... not even a decent dmg spell

This !@#$ does not NOT last till end game even the trinket is worthless but it's better than getting some crappy gloves you soon replace with fire resistance or a staff thatsoon gets worthless when you can get rep in the battle grounds to gtet those really good items or the staffs from Scholo or DM north overall the quest is worthless and i just went with the trinket and i never use it in raids ever

As a level 60 shaman I was able to solo this. it is possible to get to two platforms without aggroing anything, just hugging walls and avoiding packs. The troll that spawns there is random, so get 2, reset and eventually you'll get all your feathers.

If the 4 doors/paths visible as soon as you zone in are numbered 1,2,3,4. 1 is up to green dragons, 4 down to the pit. Both #2 and #3 if you go up (avoid a pat) you can hug the walls and get to a platform. From the platform via 3, you can also see what's on #2 platform. Kill the trolls, reset for another set.

I was able to solo them as a Resto sham using Ele gear, some of the trolls themselves are harder than others (the amber feather ones are the hardest), but all doable just remember to interrupt and dont be afraid to run out if you do something silly.

I would rather have the passive 10 mp5 from Mindtap, unless I'm going to be in a party who needs that mp5 above anything else.

Most of these quest rewards aren't that great, with dungeons providing better alternatives. HOWEVER, the experience for finishing these quests are big and well worth pursuing!

As of Burning Crusade pre-patch for classic, the two-hander is nice if you want a fast speed 2h for Enhancement since it has fantastic stats, but with dual wielding being a lot more fluid and consistent with damage, it's a hard sell for anyone not wanting to go back to 2-handing weapons.

The trinket won't see a lot of use, as the total mana recovered isn't all that great, but for casters at the level you can finish this quest at, it might be your only trinket. In Burning Crusade, enhancement shamans have access to Shamanistic Rage at the same level you can finish this quest (level 50), which fills in mana problems easily.

The gloves are decent, and again more focused on casters with the spell crit, which IS a great stat and is a strong choice, but some folks might prefer +spell power/healing power over it, of which there are a handful of options in the hand slot, even some BoE's.
