When doing the quest, 3 types of patients spawn: Injured, Badly Injured and Critically Injured. You must save 15 patients before 6 perish.

Bandage the Critically Injured victims first, as they live the shortest. Once all Critically Injured victims are healed, proceed to heal Badly Injured victims. Again, once all have been healed, proceed to heal Injured victims.

You need to go to Theramore in order to do this quest. The Head Surgeon (Doctor Gustaf VanHowzen) is in the Easternmost large castle, on the first floor.

This quest's requirement is that you are Level 35 and over and that your First Aid skill is 225/225.

In addition to the Artisan First Aid training you receive, this quest will also yield 4000XP. You need to come back to this fella to learn the rest of the First Aid skills in the game.

Once you hit a character level of 40 and with at least 225 in your First Aid skill visit Arnok, in The Valley of Spirit, Orgrimmar who will give you the quest "Horde Trauma" which sends you off to see Doctor Gregory Victor in Hammerfall who will ask for you to assist him in healing patients in a quest called "Triage" which asks you to save the lives of 15 of his patients.

Alliance

Once you hit a character level of 40 and with at least 225 in your First Aid skill visit Nissa Firestone, in The Great Forge, Ironforge who will give you the quest "Alliance Trauma" which sends you off to see Doctor Gustaf VanHowzen in Theramore Isle, Dustwallow Marsh. Doctor VanHowzen will ask for you to assist him in healing patients in a quest called "Triage" which asks you to save the lives of 15 of his patients.

Triage BandagesBoth doctors will instruct you to heal the critically injured first but it's advisable to let them die because unless you start healing them as soon as they spawn they'll usually die on you anyway and that's time wasted, time that you could have been healing a badly injured person instead. The Dr will give you 20 Triage bandages to perform the healing with. Below are some tips to completing this.

1. Press Ctrl V to activate the health bar over the heads of the patients for easy health monitoring.
2. Pull your camera out to third person so you can see as much of the room as possible. Tick "Show NPC names" in Interface Options and also press "V" on your keyboard.
3. Put the triage bandages the doctor gave you in your aciton bar. Do not use your own.
4. Position yourself in the middle of the room.
5. To see all around the room you can either hold down the left mouse button to swivel the camera around you or the right mouse button to actually swivel yourself around on the spot, whichever you find allows you to click on dying patients easier. In the Horde hospital you don't even need to swivel really.
6. When a patient appears, dying, click on the Triage bandage in your action bar to begin healing.
7. Keep your eye on other patients, swivel yourself or camera round as described above to monitor spawns all around you.
8. When you see another appear left click on them to pre-select them and as soon as your current heal has finished click the bandages in your action bar and the pre-selected one will begin to heal. Saves valuable seconds this way.

As the patients are healed they'll jump up, cheer and then run to the Dr. If you fail (6 patients die) throw any remaining Triage bandages away and re-request the quest from the Doctor, he'll give you a fresh batch of bandages.

I would just like to correct danyjr slightly.

This quest is available for horde when:
(1) you are level 35 (not 40)
(2) you have 225 First Aid

I'm sure this is the same for Alliance, but have not been able to check.

Also, this was verified in Patch 2.01.

When the quest is active, new soldiers will spawn on empty blankets after a short period of time (whether the blanket is empty due to death or to a successful heal.) Thus, if you try to heal the soldiers in a specific order (for example, standing in the middle and healing clockwise in a circle), you will be able to keep track more easily of which soldiers have been spawned the longest (and are therefore closer to death).

This was the first quest I did after patch 2.3, and I got 5500 XP from it at lvl 40. A pretty nice XP boost after that patch :D

Might be obvious to some, but you don't need to turn your character at all during this quest. You can actually select and bandage NPCs behind you. If you haven't already selected your next target before your current one finishes bandaging, you will probably fail the quest. If you do, this one is extremely easy.

Didn't realize that I only placed this comment on the Alliance part of the quest some time ago. It should apply here as well. Happy questing.

Bring 75 Mageweave Cloth and 70 Runecloth with you. You can train all of the bandages after completing the quest, and eliminate having to return to him in the future.

1) After you finish quest, the doctor will train you automatically. Make Mageweave bandages. Talk to doctor again at 240.
2) 241-260 make Heavy Mageweave bandages.
3) 261-290 make Runecloth bandages.
4) 291-300 make Heavy Runecloth bandages.

I have now used this for seven different characters. Works like a charm.

Hello! There is no book for this. In fact I just did this today on my paladin to get Master First Aid skill, 225 - 300 and learn Heavy Mageweave Bandage. The quest is called Triage and is at Hammerfall, Arathi. I do have a few tips though; several of the Wowhead comments that are displayed are out of date.

The health bar of each person on the 'beds' will always be full until they 'despawn' aka die.
Do the Critical first, then badly, lastly the injured. Also try to remember who spawned when so you can get a set order in mind.
Once you saved 15, turn in the quest immediately. I failed it on my druid because I waited, and 6 patients died while I waited which turned 'completed' to 'failed'.
Make sure you have about 10 minutes of spare time to do this with no interruptions.
Stand in the middle row, in the middle of the grid:

You may fail a few times, but don't give up! You'll get it down.
Casting Speed increase spells/gems will also increase how fast you are 'bandaging'
Target your next 'patient' while bandaging your first one so it will be faster.

Requirements - You must have 225 First aid.

The instant you accept the quest it will begin. 6 bodies will spawn and all you have to do is use the Triage Bandage on 15 of them.
The bodies can range from:

Injured
Badly Injured
Critically Injured

Your should use the bandage on the bodies in that order. Critically Injured patients come first and Injured last.

Once completed you will beable to raise your First aid to a skill level of 300!

Also be sure to destroy the bandage after the quest, it doesn't disappear upon completion.

heres a guide... when you start the quest open your bags and put Triage Bandage on hotbar slot 1 and move the original spell somewhere else.... thats all.

Very easy. i just stood opposite quest giver with my back to him and the 6 "cots" in front of me (You are in range of all of them from here) and healed them all.

i did this horde version of the artisan first aid quest for the first time ever after 3 years of playing many alliance characters and i must say, the horde version is MUCH easier. also, destroy any extra triage bandages you may still have once you complete the quest.

The above comments are fantastic! I failed my first time for the exact same reason, I didn't turn in the quest quick enough. On my second shot I healed everyone, no deaths what-so ever.

Doing the Trolls and Undead as soon as they pop up worked really well for me as the Orcs are just injured and can wait just a little bit longer. But I do still recommend turning on the life bars as it can help you keep track of how many are on the screen.

The Horde version of this quest is easier (and better) than the Alliance one, because of the way the injured patients are laid out in a flat pattern. The Alliance version requires a particular position and a L-R sweep, whereas in the Horde triage you can stand in more places and just do by severity of injury.

this quest is no longer required to get 300 first aid. however, it is still a very easy quest and gives you all the training for free. if you go to the FA trainer you have fork out quite a bit of gold to learn all the bandages you can learn for free after completing this quest.

I tested this in patch 3.1 and it didn't work. I've now went back for a second attempt but the good doctor is still telling me to come back when I've furthered my knowledge of first aid. It's strange because my first aid skill is 237 when mageweave bandages only require 210 to learn. After making a ticket I was given this reply:

These forums are regularly monitored by the world of warcraft development team.

When you do this quest don't be surprised if he no longer gives you any free training. If you do get it for free, then lucky you. I still think it might work but after personal experience and the comments from a game master I'm not so sure.

Edit: The doctor did not automatically give me mageweave training after completing the quest. Perhaps my skill was too low at the time, I can't really remember. I've used 500+ silk to go from 180-237, and I'll continue pouring more into it until I get to 240. I'll say whether or not he teaches me heavy mageweave bandages when that happens.

Last edit: Alright, so if you find yourself in the same unlikely situation as me (not getting taught automatucally) you'll have to buy training from a first aid trainer once but after that the doctor should work properly.

I just did this on my level 44 Troll Mage and got 5550 XP. After a couple of failed attempts I read the comments above and the third time was the charm. Turned the quest in immediately and got runecloth bandage training free of charge.

Got 9420 experience for completing the quest at level 48. (I had BoA shoulders and chest armor equipped, which gave me additional 20% experience for completing the quest, though). That was almost 10% of experience needed for the next level, so it was definitely worth the time. Assuming that the quest can be taken at level 35, one should get much more experience for completing it at that level.

Whatever you do, even tho it's not required to do anymore, while you're doing it... DO NOT DO IT WITH ANYONE AROUND. If someone comes in and starts it, it will mess up your quest and you have to start it over. At LvL 68 I got 17940 experience. =D

Arathi Highlands. Inside the building to the SW.
Fortunately, u dont have to go anywhere or kill anything hence it's a good one to do when you're waiting on a party or whatever.

U can do this quest over and over again.

DON'T bother with your bandages- the quest giver will give you special bandages "triage bandages". The first time, equip your triage bandages on a numbered hotkey. This will take a moment so abandon the quest when finished. Then accep the quest again. This will give you even more bandages.

My strategy was to stand in one spot where I could heal 4 of the beds without moving.

Heal with this priority:
1 critically injured
2 badly injured
3 Any injured who talks about dying
4 Whoever respawned first

To heal, i click then hit the hotkey.
While healing, click your next target. As soon as the heal is complte, hit your hotkey. Then choose your next target.

Using this strategy, u may only have to do the quest a couple of times.

Very simple if you realize that the range on the bandages is like 5 yards, so you can just stand in the middle of the room and bandage everyone from just about one spot. Remember to put on name plates so you can always see which ones are badly injured, and remember to use the triage bandages :)

Well, I've done it as lv 36. So, you don't need to be 40.

All you have to do is stand in the middle, grab the Triage Bandage recieved into one hotkey, and keep using it on the soliders that magically appear on the floor.

Quite easy quest, and a bit annoying cuz to get to that point I've failed couple of times.

By the way, just in case, Doctor Gregory Victor is on 73,37 - Hammerfal - Arathi Highlands inside the little "hospital".

A few things for the Alliance version of this quest. First, you get this by taking a boat from the Wetlands, and make sure to take the boat on the left when you're looking at the docks from land, not the one on the right. Once you get off the boat go straight ahead, inside the first building on the right (the one with the soldiers attacking dummies out front) is the doctor. The bodies will appear all around him in the same room that he gives the quest. When you're alliance this quest has NOTHING TO DO with the Aranathi Highlands.

For some reason it says "15 Patients Saved" in the quest log from the very beginning, before you even start the quest, so just because it says that in your quest log doesn't mean that you've actually saved the 15 patients already (like in normal quests) it just means that you have the quest. Look to the right and see if it says "(Failed)" at the top in the window which lists your 20 quests and if it does then you didn't actually save enough of them before they died.

The first couple times I tried this quest, I failed really fast.

4 Tips to make this quest a piece of cake:

1. If possible, do this quest with others. They don't have to be in your party, just the fact that others are healing the dying peeps that you can't get too helps out a ton.

2. Hot key the triage bandages.

3. While healing, target who's going to die next so you can be their hero.

4. Stand in the middle of the 6 beds. This way you don't have to move at all to do your healing. Just target and heal.

If you do all 4 steps and you can't get this quest done, try beating your head with a nice sized rock . This technique can help even the most challenged players :)

The advice is to stand a bit behind Gustaf, approx 4-5 floor stones further (look at floor texture), so you're exacty between 5 beds. The 6th bed left-back in room has also wounded soldiers, but i can not keep 6th bed in camera view and 7th bed right-back in room is a bit visible in camera view (camera looks through the door of the room) is not used for wounded soldiers. Lucky. I ignore the 6th bed and focus only on 5 beds.

Press V to make bars visible. Indeed you see only full healths in bars. But now it's important that you see which is respawned first. Remember the respawm order. Injured lives a bit longer, but can also die.
(Not sure if you can see the bar of wounded guy on 6th bed.)

Hotkey the Triage bandages. It's helps very much and works faster.

Start: click first on Critically's. Then on Badly. And if you see new Badly respawned up again, let it be, click first on one Injured, then quickly on Badly. Because casting time costs time, that is why you must don't break your casts because you see critically when you're busy with Injured. And click then on Injured which starts speaking something. But also on longer-staying Injured's.

Quicktarget is possible. Target (click on the bar above the heads works too), press hotkey, and while your character casts it, click now on next target. Wait until the cast is completed, press now hotkey, target next... it's faster and no wasting pause time. Great.

Such advice is very useful for players who don't use mouse for walking/look around. Key-walking is more slower. That is why standing in the room with maximized camera (well, not really camerazoom on max, like more 2 steps from max zoom) does the work.

Some people thinks walk around the beds clockwise, to make respawn order easier, but it don't work. Because you see already Critically, you must break your clockwise method. You sure fail.
Moving around = fail
Stay in the middle with zoom out = win

For strategy, the posts above say the important things - have the bandages on a hot key (only way I was able to do this), find a good spot in the middle of the room where you can reach most of the injured (I didn't find a spot that worked for all, but still managed), and mouse over to look for the critically or seriously injured (or the ones talking about how they're about to die) so you can target the next victim while the bandage is channeling. It's really hectic, and I failed it a half dozen times before getting bandages on the hotkey (and once after), but if you move quickly it will work. I was on a laptop without a mouse, so a bit harder to keep track of all the wounded without being able to zoom out.

If I can do it, anyone can. I'm old, my reflexes are slow, and I don't have a mouse. So don't panic about how fast you have to go; you'll get it. Just enjoy the ease of a stand-in-one-room-clicking quest, and the stuff the dying say in the little chat bubbles.

Someone commented above about not having mageweave yet at level 35. I did this last night as a level 37 alliance char who hasn't encountered any mageweave yet either, but my horde char picked up some mageweave at level 30 or 31 from Dalaran mages at the internment camp just north of Hillsbrad.

Not too hard and actually quite fun and in a way relaxing.
You should definitely put the bandage on your hotbar.
The trick is to stand in a spot where you can heal most of the patients (you may need to move around a bit though)and to start in a specific order. I noticed that the quest always started with all the beds being filled with injured patients, with badly and critical appearing later.
You should try to do the patients in order, breaking it when necessary but returning to it when the crisis is averted. I started top right, then went to top left, then center right, then center left... You get the gist.
If I saw a critical patient or someone talking about death, I would go directly to him. However, badly injured were not always second after criticals in my priority.
Lets say you choose an order in which to heal the patients, their numbers are 1,2,3,4,5,6. You are healing the patient on bed 4, meaning you have done 1,2 and 3. An injured spawns on bed 1 and a badly injured on bed 2, but you have yet to heal the patients on beds 5 and 6. Patient 6 is essentially a goner. I would heal patient 5 first, ignore 6 and go to the badly injured on bed 2, then bed 1 with the simply injured and continue in order as much as possible.
Mind you, this didn't always work, and the times the patients take to die may be different (longer or shorter, but you get the idea. I won the quest using this system.
It took me 3 or 4 tries until I adjusted to this system and managed it, and I kept forgetting to press V to see their health also... What a dumbbell I can be :-P.

Ok seriously...this quest is not even hard. All u do is stand in the center of the 6 patients, start with the one closest to the Truama Surgeon and while casting Triage Bandage on one immediately target the next one. When you finish casting the bandage on one immediately right click the bandage and start casting on the next. Continue this in the same order and u will finish in no time at all and with minimal deaths.

Most important part of this quest is that you need to be at 225 first aid, or you won't even get it. before you talk to the doctor, make sure you can see everyones stats on screen (CTRL+V) and that your camera angle is slightly higher than normal, so you can see all the patients almost from above. Once you accept the quest, it starts immediately. Simply stand in the middle, attend to the most critical first, and while you are bandaging one, click on the next one so you can start bandaging that one immediately. I didn't lose a single patient.

I tried this 3 times and didn't even come close. Then I read how you should just stand in one spot (in the middle of the six beds) and have the next patient targeted while the current one is still bandaging (you can turn in a circle without interrupting as long as you stay in one spot). This way there is ZERO wasted time between patients and I finished it easily. Oh, and I did badly injured as soon as they popped up, then went back to injured, and just ignored critically injured completely.

After reading tips here for marcos and stuff, I was a bit nervous about failing it the first time. Not hard at all.

There's six mats. Stand in the middle. Hotkey bandages. Backed out, third person view of self and all six mats.

As you heal the victims, more will spawn (but not always instantly, so you don't always have a full stock of victims, which makes things easier). The criticals die pretty quickly, so them first, of course, and remembering to heal the more badly injured ones first. Basically, just keep how long til each dies in your head.

Also, keep in mind the time at which they spawn. At some points, I had nothing but injured (the slowest dying ones), but they spawned at different times. Since the ones that spawn first are closer to death, you want to heal in the spawn order (when compared to others of the same injury type).

First time through, I only lost one. (It keeps going until you either save 15 or lose 6, as the completed or failed conditions). They kept spawning afterwards, so I kept healing. No extra prize, just wanted to know I saved as many as possible. Had one bandage left over at the end, which I'm assuming was meant for the one I lost.

Did the quest at lvl 35 and 225 First Aid, so, yup, the change in level is accurate.

As you skill up the Doc will train you to make new bandages. Here are the skill levels you need before he will teach you each one:

240 Hvy Mageweave
260 Runecloth
290 Hvy Runecloth

So if you want to max out your FA, just brind a bunch of mageweave and runecloth and make bandages. Once you hit each number above talk to him again. My lev 42 Rogue is slinging Hvy Runecloth Bandages. :) Nice

Remeber to hotkey bandages! Took me two tries but well worth the getting over the nerves, if you don't get it keep going.
try and remember when new ones spawn which ones were there longer, that will help you considerably. also, when healing if you see a more injured patient arrive, keep healing that one then go to the other. dont stop or you'll lose the patient

It makes it less complex to just party up... find one (or better) or two other people who want to do this quest, party up, do the quest as a group... it was very fast for us.

Do:

1. hotkey the triage bandages. If you have a heal ability you use a lot, put it there for the time being.
2. zoom to third person so you can see all victims.
3. preselect the next dying victim before the bandaging is done on the current
4. look for a pattern: undead are always critical, trolls always badly injured, and orcs always injured.
5. stand between the two rows about level with the middle of the first two guys. They'll all be within triage range from here.

Do not:
1. let a dying patient throw you off. Expect to lose 2-3.
2. use ctrl+v to see health. They all have full health till the moment they die. It just clutters up your screen so you're better off looking for that pattern.

I am a hunter at level 37. Upgrade my skill in Hammerfall to 225 and i did get the quest!
It wasn't hard.
Have a good sight over all the six towels stay close en do not move by healing a
patient. During healing pre select an other patient and so on.

This is how I did it at 41 (3900 exp). First I practised on the patients to find the right spot in the centre. Then I have a mouse button (4th in my case) bound to action key 4, where I put in the triage. Once it's started, I simply use the mouse to turn around and scan the room for patients. Whenever I spot a patient I need to heal first, I use the right-click to target the patient and press the mouse button (hotkey if you prefer). If it's out of range, just press the W key to move forward a bit, assuming you're facing the patient anyway. While the bandage is being done, scan the room meanwhile for another patient and target it once the next bandage is ready.

I just did it on instinct, trying to catch all with my eyes. I may have missed some but it is most important to act quickly, so there is no room for hesitation.

if you dont destroy the bandages you dont see how much patients you have saved because the quest doesnt do 1/15 like in normal quests . If you autotrack the quest it just says save 15 patients and not patients saved : 15/15
and counting down. If you just keep one stack of bandages in your slot you can keep track of how many you have saved.

tried 10 times , the closest i got was 14/15 saved (so 6 bandages over)

I just did this last night. Took me several times and finally found an easy way to do it. I scrolled my camera out and stood in between the center mats. From this position you can hit all six of the patients without moving. I also invited a friend right before I started because we planned on grouping after I finished and they completed the quest without having to do any work. Not sure if it was intended that way or not. Oh yeah, it is faster if you put the bandages in an open slot so you can just keep hitting a hotkey.

im lvl 34 and i have 225 first aid and i hate it becuz i cant use my bandages for skills so i have to wait till lvl 45 and its gonna be a pain in the ass...

Logic would suggest that pitients should progress from injured, to badly injured, to critical.

In the first cast of Triage , two injured paitients despawned, presumably dying. No progression, just dead. Then two more injured despawned during the second cast.

I tried this 6 times before giving up in total frustration.

On the ratio of deaths to casts, I rate this quest as IMPOSSIBLE

This quest is a tiny bit misleading. Whilst it is true you should bandage critical patients before badly injured, and badly injured before injured - injured don't progress to either of these states. THEY JUST DIE. (Took me one go to realise this.) I didn't realise they were dying, until I failed, haha.

Once you realise this, it's a case of remembering in what order they spawned, and making sure you heal each of those - since I found that most of the patients were only injured and not badly injured, all you can do is remember which one spawned first. And if a badly/critical appears, do them quickly and then go to the others.

I managed this by myself on the second go. Not bad, not bad at all.

Just thought I'd add my 2 cents here.

DON'T KEEP THE TRIAGE BANDAGES IF YOU FAIL!

It seems that the quest ends when you are down to 5 bandages.

I kept healing 15 guys, but they didn't quit coming! So I kept failing. Soon I had over 100 triage bandages. Finally, I figured out I had to destroy them all before I began the quest again. Got it easy after that.

Watch the beds and which ones have patients in them and remember if they are not healed fast enough they will despawn. If your first spawn of patients has two critically injured patients just heal one of them then go for the badly injured and then the injured remembering to heal all of the first set of soilders before healing respawns; after healing all the first set of soilders just try and pay attention to what spawns when and watch your bandage count and remember if you get 15 healed you've completed it.

If you have to repeat the quest be sure to destroy your old bandages before starting quest again so you'll have enough to complete it. Also if your wondering how to tell what patient is how badly injured just look at their names as it is in their name.

edit: Quest was given by Doctor Gustaf VanHowzen inside Foothold Citadel in Theramore I got a quest to speak with him from the First Aid trainer in Ironforge which gave 775exp but I'm not sure if that was a pre req quest.

doctor will instruct you to heal the critically injured first but it's advisable to let them die because unless you start healing them as soon as they spawn they'll usually die on you anyway and that's time wasted, time that you could have been healing a badly injured person instead. The Dr will give you 20 Triage bandages to perform the healing with. Below are some tips to completing this.

Press Ctrl V to activate the health bar over the heads of the patients for easy health monitoring.
Pull your camera out to third person so you can see as much of the room as possible.
Put the triage bandages the doctor gave you in your aciton bar. Do not use your own bandages.
Position yourself in the middle of the room.
When a patient appears, dying, click on the Triage bandage in your action bar to begin healing.
Keep your eye on other patients.
When you see another appear left click on them to pre-select them and as soon as your current heal has finished click the bandages in your action bar and the pre-selected one will begin to heal. Saves valuable seconds this way.
As the patients are healed they'll jump up, cheer and then run to the Dr.
If you fail (6 patients die) throw any remaining Triage bandages away and re-request the quest from the Doctor, he'll give you a fresh batch of bandages

I did it at lvl 36 and skill 255, easy quest. Just stand in the middle of the towels and heal the badly injured as fast as you can. select next wounded guy when you're still healing one and you'll be fine.

The good advice here worked out great for me. I tried several times then came to look at alla. Targeting the next soldier and healing them with the hotkey worked out really well. I got it right away then.

I just wondered if the 'critically injured solidiers' and 'badly injured soldiers' would 'despawn' faster, but I was concentrating on what I was doing so I couldn't tell for sure. I just really focused on those guys more than the regular 'injured soldiers'.

Hope this all helps. Its not really a bad quest.

Leveling a char in WotLK Classic, and since I hit 225/225 First aid skill, and the trainers were not offering to let me upgrade, I picked up the breadcrumb from Orgrimmar, and headed out to Arathi Highlands to do this quest. The quest rewards are 20 Runecloth Bandage (something I can't make, since I dont' even have Heavy Mageweave at this point) and the RP item.

With no First Aid Trainer in Hammerfall, and Dr Gregory Victor not offering to even teach it, I hearthed back to Freewind Post where I was lodging, and took a taxi back to Orgrimmar. Once I arrived I headed for the where Arnok resides, and lo and behold he now has the skills to train me in. So l while this quest does not reward Artisan First Aid any longer, it does appear unlock the ability to learn it from the First Aid Trainers

Triage

Save patients by using Triage Bandages to tend to their wounds. You must save 15 patients before 6 of them die from their injuries.

Remember the order of triage! Critically Injured Soldiers die the fastest followed by Badly Injured Soldiers. Injured Soldiers take the longest to die and should be saved AFTER your Critically Injured and Badly Injured Soldiers have been triaged.
