In order to loot a Shadowmoon Tuber you first have to find a Shadowmoon Tuber Mound, a tooltip will pop up when you hover over it, then you have to use Oronok's Boar Whistle when a boar is nearby and the boar will come dig up the tuber, then a lootable Shadowmoon Tuber appears and you loot the tuber from that.

The only real difficulty in this is finding a spawn that is near a felboar, and also keeping the felboars alive because the Ravenous Flayers all around the are are constantly killing the boars.

Note: aggroing one of the felboars to make it follow you and then using the whistle while standing on a tuber, Does NOT work, just means you have to kill the felboar, which is pointless.

This was by far the most annoying quest in the game. Took me an hour to get 6. I finally found 4 by a single boar who was getting beat down by a mob so i saved him a got the rest of them. I think I'd rather dig through more fecal matter than have to do a quest like this again.

Easy quest. Took maybe 10 minutes to do. Just look for a tuber, then wait by it for a boar to spawn (20-30 seconds) and use the whistle.

What you can also do is find a tuber, then pull a Flayer that is attacking some boar over to the tuber. Boar will follow him and when you kill the Flayer use the whistle.

I'm pretty sure this quest is bugged, since a majority of the boars that are actually nearby tubers literally spawn in dead. How you're supposed to call a dead boar over I'm not entirely sure.

The Cipher of Damnation is an extremely long quest line in Shadowmoon Valley. It is a prerequisite for attunement to The Eye in Tempest Keep and Mount Hyjal in Caverns of time.

After completing the quest, you will get a message in the mail from Khadgar. If you go to Shattrath, he will tell you to talk to A'Dal, who unlocks the the three Trials. These are prerequisites for attunement to The Eye in Tempest Keep and Mount Hyjal in Caverns of time.

This is not a hard quest if you understand exactly what you need to do. It took me 15min to finish it.
Near the NPC you gonna find some "Ravenous Flayer" a dark mob with big claws. Their roll is just kill all "Domisticated Felboars" they can find around. The "felboars" roll is respond to the Whistle you have when you use it next to a Shadowmoon Tuber Mound. The Shadowmoon Tuber Mound roll (lol) is get digged by the felboar and gives you a Tuber itself (the quest item) and your roll is keep the Boars alive.
All resumes to:
1- Find a mound. Once you found one check if theres a noar near it (the range on the whistle is pretty short... i can say 10~15years tops). If the boar is close enought use the whistle. The boar will come, dig it and you´ll be able to loot a Tuber.
If you don´t have a boar next to it you have 02 options:
A) Wait 1 or 2 minuts. You have a 90% chance that a felboar will pop right next to it and some Flayers will attack it so you save him and use the whistle. One tip here is clear the area first. Sometimes when the boar pops 02 Flayers come to attack it and they hit hard.
B) In some spots no Felboars pop at all so you use the whistle. The Mound WILL despawn and respawn around 30sec later in somewhere else.

It all about finding the mounds, wait for a boar, save the ones that are bein attacked next a mound and etc...

Some nice mounds have 02 boars around it so when you use the whistle both come, both dig and you get 02 quest items in a shot.

Its a very patience quest. The Flayers always drop money, and good drop rate on netherweave cloths and gray items cause yes.. you will kill some.

The tubers spawn in pairs near each other. You can respawn the tubers in a new location by using the whistle on top of them. It takes about 30 seconds to respawn them.

Usually Felboars spawn near the tubers if you wait about a min. If you don't see any Felboars spawn near the tubers I suggest you respawn the tubers using the whistle.

It seems to me the Felboars do not spawn near the tubers in the north-eastern part of the zone (near all the Flayer eggs), and the north-western part of the zone (near the steep slope). I suggest you reset the tubers if you see them spawn there.

I found it quite easy to save boars that were under attack and then look for tubers around them. The boars are situated such that they spawn near tuber and vice versa. So saving a boar from a flayer will most likely net you at least one tuber. Sometimes I was able to find boars (mostly on the north side of the area) that were in range of 2 or 3 tubers.

Your biggest enemy here are allied players, as some will attempt to follow you around and steal your tubers. Kill the boars in these situations to rob them of the chance. They'll eventually leave you alone.

If you can kill the horde that are doing the quest, to free up boars and tubers. Though this may vary in effectiveness as horde may bring reinforcements, have others around or just come back and gank you.

Very annoying quest, if you have a flying mount it's proboably a good idea to fly around looking for boars close to the mounds, otherwise you could spend easily an hour or more doing this quest. It's very hard not to aggro something whilst on ground.

Area of harvesting is surrounding 52.15 .. if you can, find one thats being attacked and save it. try to get two that are close to one area, and you'll get multiple tubers. be patient. took me about 10 minutes. watch for adds.

Wow this quest is annoying as heck. As someone said above, the boars pop dead, so it's very hard to find one living. By the time you find one, it's almost dead due to a flayer.

This can be done very easy by a hunter.

Shoot the Felboar and pull it over to the mound.
Make sure youre in the right spot.
Feign Death and the second you get up whistle.
The boar will run back to its normal spawn and then back to you and start to dig.

I think I figured out the tuber quest at the very end, I got five in a row or so.

Just stay near the tuber or the boar, and usually a new tuber will spawn within a ten yard radius. Be patient, and make sure to look right around you. Give it about a minute, THEN look for a new tuber in the ground elsewhere.

Wow, I'm surprised this quest is being called "most annoying ever". Without any outside tips I think I managed to complete it in under 20 mins back when I did it. Just a matter of keeping your boar buddies alive and then waiting for tuber respawns, as I recall.

Horrible quest.

The flayers and whatnot have a gigantic aggro radius. If you're unlucky the quest can get bugged, where the flayers will kill boars as they spawn but before they're visible. You'll see flayers attacking empty air. Then they walk away. A minute later, the boar spawns already dead.

Line of sight also affects whether boars can hear the whistle. I've seen boars standing just above a tuber mound, but since I can't "see" them from my char when I blew the whistle, nothing happened and the tuber despawned.

I've been here for almost 2 hours, only 7 tubers so far. Boars aren't spawning anywhere near the mounds.

I thought i'd share what i found out during this quest.

1) To make it easier on yourself, and to increase the amount of harvestable roots from 1 tubber mount, what your wanna do first of all is scout out the area - find a location that has alot of mounds within close proximity of eachother.

2) Start killing the flayers in the area you've chosen. Kill them as fast as possible and keep this up until you have a fair amount of domesticated boar spawns (say 5-7 or more).
TIP! The more boarspawns in the area the more will come when you whistle, thus creating severel harvestable roots out of 1 mound.

3) When the area runs out of tubber mounds, scout a new area and start over :)

Spotting the "Mounds":
These look like carrot tops sticking out of the ground.

Getting the quest item:
Stand on top of the carrot-looking thing, and blow that whistle. If a boar is near, it will come and dig it up. You can then look the item the boar digs up.

**NOTES**
1) The boar must be VERY near (no more than 15 yards away).
2) If you blow the whisle on a mound, and a boar does not come, the mound will despawn and then respawn somewhere else. This can be very useful.
3) If two boars come, they will both dig up a quest item. Very useful.
4) If you wait near a mound that has no boars, a boar will sometimes spawn right there.

Quest is currently bugged, but still doable. No live boars spawn anywhere near the tubers. Instead you'll see corpses everywhere and the flayers attacking them. What you have to do is clear the whole area - I mean lock it down - for a very long time and you'll start to see a live boar or two. One live boar in a good spot can get you 3-4 tubers. Eventually you'll get it but in its bugged state it is terribly frustrating.

I found that the easiest way to do this quest is to kill as much Flayers that you can. Why? Because then you have lots of boars up and when a tuber spawns; you'll have 2-3 boards running to it and dig = 2-3 tubers / blow of the whistle.

I found a pretty easy way to manage this quest as a warrior. Whenever i saw a boar being attacked, i would taunt the flayer then run over the the tuber with the flayer attacking me and the boar following the flayer attacking him. I would then use my whistle immediately after the flayer was slain and the boar would run back to where ever you pulled it from then run all the way back to the tuber and harvest it.

This quest started out difficult as described by many above. Then i hit a good spot around 51,17 and killed flayers like mad and kept the pigs alive.

In this area I was able to keep 3 pigs alive fairly easily, and finished the quest in like 5 minutes. (I had spent an hour of frustration though before finding this good flat spot).

Also watch your AoE attacks. Don't hit the damn pigs with anything, or they'll turn on you!

This can be tricky. The guys are around 52, 17. For those of you without coords, they are north of the guy who gives the quest. Blow the whistle and a nearby felboar will run over and get it for you. The hard part is, Shaleskin Flayers in the area like to kill the felboars. You need to keep the felboars alive and kill the Flayers.

My findings as druid skinner.
DPS in bear form and you'll have a lot easier task getting aggro from the flayers
Seeing how fast the boars respawn (I assume resp. rate is faster than average)
this might actually be a good place to farm leather
(or you could at least try landing the finishing blow if your boar is dying from a flayer)

I found this to be more frustrating than any other quest in Outland. It wouldn't be so bad if all you had to do was find a tuber, a boar, and whistle; instead about 50% of the time or so the tuber mound will de-spawn while you're killing a Flayer to even GET the dumb pig to start digging. This took me longer to complete than the quest in Stranglethorn Vale to get the Gorilla Sinew. Almost turned me off to the entire chain, which is really one of the more important end-game chains if your looking to get back into high-end raiding in BC.

There's a slight trick to this that has been working for me (but YMMV):

When a flayer is fighting a felboar, you can pull aggro on the flayer and drag him to a tuber. Just as you kill the mob blow the whistle. The boar will run back to its last path point, as if resetting, but then should start running happily towards you (I've had them trek a good 40 yards so far) and dig you up a tuber. I've even had it dig up a closer tuber instead of the one I was standing by.

WOW, this quest sucks in so many different ways on so many different levels. First, the carrots that your looking for despawn and spawn in randomly different places every 60 seconds or so, and most of the time they are not anywhere close to these Felboars. You have to be within hearing range of these boars for them to hear the whistle. There are about 2x as many hostile mobs as there are boars, so if you see a carrot your trying to get to, you have to fight through several mobs to get to it, and if your lucky it wouldn't have despawned before you got there and there are Felboars nearby you can call to it. Then the mobs are 70, so if you are sub 69, which I would assume most of you are, they will agro you from a football field away, and you'll have 4 of these guys on you before you know it. THEN there's maybe 2 or 3 carrots in that area that will be spawned at one time. Getting 3 or 4 of these would have made more sense, but you have to get a whopping 10 to complete the quest. GG BLIZZ. Also, don't die because the walk back is almost half the zone away......good luck.

When you find a Tuber but no boar nearby then look for a flayer fighting a boar. Pull the flayer (not the boar, you cannot aggro the boar and then use the whistle, it won't work) and the boar will come after him, kill the flayer and then use the whistle immediately. Follow the boar because he will go back to where he was originally fighting the flayer and then start digging there, not where the actual tuber is, and the lootable tuber will spawn. Also try and gather as many boars near a single tuber and use the whistle. ALL of the boars near the tuber will dig and a lootable tuber will spawn for each boar so you can get multiple tubers from a single spawn.

Dumbest quest ever. Why the hell would you shoehorn an annoying quest in the midst of a necessary chain that tells much of the story of Outland? I see now why people abandon this quest right at this particular point.

Any place where tubers are....there are NO pigs to dig them up. When you go to search for pigs...they're already dead...cause the flayers are committing non-stop genocide.

To say nothing of the fact that when a player is at this point in the game...all they can think about is gaining as much XP as possible for their time to hit 70 ASAP. Why the hell would you frustrate the hell out of the player?

There are 0 tips for this quest other than continue to bang your head on the keyboard and stick it out if you are a completist. Otherwise, with WotLK 3 weeks out...@#$% THIS QUEST.

IMO the trick is to kill all the flayers and keep the boars safe. The tubers random spawn and random move.

Kill the flayers, keep the boars safe, use the whistle when in range. I found that easier than scouting for tubers then dropping on them and using the whistle.

It also seems that tubers spawn near boars/flayers, like all 3 objects have a set radius. 1 boar, 1 tuber, 1 or more flayers per "area".

Ok, so unless you desperately need this quest for the food or the SMV quest achievement (which is why I was doing it)...SKIP THIS QUEST! The piggy's respawn timer is stupidly slow, so if you are trying to protect them and one gets killed near a tuber...don't count on it being back anytime soon. I spent nearly 30 minutes standing around waiting for tubers, then waiting for piggys, then both...I milled around 52.5, 17.5, and finally got about 7 pigs I could keep an eye on, while waiting for the stupid tubers to spawn...and finally got my 10. This quest is quite obtuse...so just skip it.

TIP: A great way to speed this quest up: Clean out the flayers first, then wait about 30 seconds to a minute. Start searching for tubers spaced evenly between boars. If you blow the whistle, any within the range will show up. They will dig up one tuber per boar. So you can actually get 2 or 3 off one ground tuber. Try that and it'll speed things up massively.

Clear out some flayers, find mound, blow the whistle, collect. Rinse/repeat.

The easiest way to do it is:

1. Protect any single boar.
2. Find a carrot like thing.
3. Use the quest item.
4. Boar will discover a tuber.

Remeber! More boars You call with Your whistle, more tuber will You recive from a single "carrot" :) (example: if 3 boars will start to dig near the same "carrot", You will get 3 tubers, instead of 1).

Unless the writers intended for players to be killing and looting flayers for over an hour and completing the tuber-collecting part of this quest as an afterthought, IMHO this quest appers to have serious design flaws, and is much more of a tantalizing tease than fun. This quest would work for a group of players, but as a solo lvl 71 hunter I found the high ratio of flayers to pigs and respawn rate on the flayers to be so fast that the degree of difficulty of getting a live boar to be anywhere near a tuber when I needed one made this a long-running excercise in near-complete frustration which I abandoned twice halfway through and might never complete unless I come back as a level 80 character with nothing better to do.
Most of the time after the all flayers near me were killed I could not find a boar close enough to respond to the whistle and the tuber would disappear, and I killed a lot of boars as collateral damage when I opened fire on a flayer attacking a boar and the boar got aggravated and turned on me.
There appear to be way too many flayers in this area to keep enough pigs alive near tubers to get this done without an extreme amount of patience and a large investment in time. Get some friends to help with this quest, or be prepared for a long bumpy road to completion.

This quest was a real pain for all the reasons previously mentioned. But the thing that got me the most was standing next to a plant, blowing the whistle, and looking at a boar who would not respond. Of course the plant vanished shortly thereafter. It was also very angering to see how many plants had no boars anywhere around. Only once did I have two boars respond at the same time and I get get two plants.

They need to make the boar response distance longer to reduce the irritation of what I consider to be a very irritating quest.

BTW, in case you are wondering what the pine cone-looking things with the horns and green glow are, they are Ravenous Flayer eggs, which you will be destroying in the next quest in the chain-a much better quest than this one!

In reply to Ende's comment above, I can confirm that getting multiple boars summoned to a tuber should give you the equivalent number of quest items, as I managed to summon 4 to one location and got 4 tubers - sounds like it was a bit buggy for you. Heartily agree with his opinion of this quest - its a definite front runner for "Most Irritating Quest" award. The location of boars in relation to tubers badly needs sorted out - although, since not that many people ever find their way to this quest anymore, it will probably just stay as it is until the next "cataclysm" type event where a lot of old quests are removed.

This quest is not bugged.

I completed this quest in less then 10 minutes.

This is how you do it.

Kill all the flayers. That way they don't kill the boars.
Then just stand near a spawned tuber and blow the whistle.

Some had 2 or 3 boars digging up a tuber for each boar.

Very simple.

So, I'm thinking probably not too many people are silly like me, and still does BC 68-70 content. I enjoy it way more than the same boring Wrath 68-71 zones - my 4th alt, I did every quest I could in Netherstorm. Now, for my 5th alt, I'm doing every quest I can in SMV. This quest... I remembered being a huge pain back on my first account when we didn't have that choice. And, indeed, I spent about 10 minutes having 0 luck getting any tubers (after first spending around 5 minutes trying to dig up those eggs, and wondering why it wouldn't let me. Those eggs around the east edge of the zone... those aren't tubers.)

But anyway, once I figured out the trick, it only took maybe 10 minutes to pick up the 10. Still a braindead quest, but at least also not difficult. (And I can think of a few quests way more mindnumbingly dumb than this one.) Anyway, the trick is simple, and has been mentioned before, but I'm going to repeat it: just kill every single lousy flayer you see. Any time you see a flayer, anywhere, run over and kill it. Suddenly, you should have no problem finding boars to dig tubers up with!

Here is a way to end the torture quicker:

Make sure that more than one boar is on the whistle range when you use it.

You'll get one tuber per attracted boar.

Not enough tubers. When I do summon the boar, the tuber just disappears. But I don't receive any quest item. I tried it several times and the result is the same.

Okay, here's the deal with this quest.

There's a few unrelated random elements happening in the area: The spawn timing and location of Tubers, Boars and Flayers. Flayers kill the boars. Tubers and living Boars need to be next to each other for you to get your quest item. This can go really well for you or really, really suck. I think it's more likely to suck than go well for you.

I don't think there's any real "trick" to making this easy if things aren't going your way. I can recommend a few things that helped me:

1. Don't stay in one spot. If you're not making progress in one area due to there being no boars or no tubers, go somewhere else.

2. I had better luck overall closer to the NPC than near the end where the elite patrols. There's less Flayers and more tubers overall.

3. If you've managed to get yourself a nice patch of living Boars with no Flayers, but there are no Tubers in sight, I recommend going to other tubers and FORCIBLY DESPAWNING THEM by blowing the whistle twice. I spent a lot of time in one area waiting for a Tuber and happily killing Flayers, yet the Tubers never ever showed up. This made me very angry. I then went around and found a bunch of Tubers but no Boars. I spent some time despawning the tubers, then went back to check on my Boar friends. There were then Tubers there. This leads me to believe there are a fixed amount of Tubers that can spawn, so if they are in crappy locations, you could literally spend hours at this quest waiting for something that will never happen.

4. Near as I can tell, when there's a bunch of dead boars on the ground, that area is pretty much useless. Don't stick around killing Flayers in the vain hope a boar will spawn. There's a good chance it'll take a ridiculous amount of time, and also be hard. For example near the end where 3 Flayer packs attack the boars.. Good luck keeping those alive..

Occasionally you'll find a tuber or a patch of tubers with no boars within whistle range.

So....attack a boar. Bring it in close. Then blow the whistle. They will dig up tubers even while in combat.

A variation on this is to use an AOE on a boar locked in combat with a Flayer, pull them both in towards the tuber, and then blow the whistle.

The boars seem to be assigned to particular tuber spawns because several times I used the whistle and called, but boars only 5 yards away wouldn't come, which was the most annoying thing that I ran into while doing this. You'll need to constantly clear the flayers so that the boars remain available when the tubers do spawn. Erm, and one thing for mages and other classes that use AoE attacks - do not use AoE on the flayers if one has already engaged a boar because the boar will aggro and you'll have to kill it too. >_>

Let me try and make the steps simplier :

1: goto arround 54,14 area, looks on the ground look for
Shadowmoon tuber mound.
2: step ontop of the mound, wait Domesticated Boar NEAR you,
then blow the "Oronok's Boar Whistle". Boar will come and dig
the mound and POP "Shadowmoon tuber", your quest item.

p.s. after wistle the tuber mound will disapear soon, so
if no boar near you and come to dig, you miss a chance and need
to find another mound.

Finding Oronok Torn-heart is what it should be called look for the Coilfang Cistern, go the the west side of it a trail leads up and around the north end of the hill/mountain he is on top in a quaint little corral with boars all around. (He is not in the cistern itself.)

Do yourself a favor, just abandon this quest, complete waste of time, i tryed the whole pull a boar to the tuber trick, but you end up aggoring alot of flayers, and if you cannot use any type of aoe ability/spell, which sucks for mages. I dropped Stoneclaw one time when i got 3 guys on me, and after the fight was over, boar started attackign me cuz it aggored him, this quest is not worth the time if ur trying to level or just get money.

It doesn't seem repeatable. However, it is do-able. Just clear some Flayers, eventually a tuber and a boar spawn close enough. Yes, the tubers despawn, but they respawn as well. Those closes to the ramp are probably the easiest. If two boars are near a tuber, you can get 2 for 1.

The problem here is that when you find a tuber (easier for herbalists since they do show up on the mini-map), there never seems to be a pig around. However, there are almost always flayers attacking pigs. So, pull the flayer and kite him to the tuber. The pig will follow and help you kill the flayer. Make sure you're right on top of the tuber and blow the whistle as soon as you kill the flayer. Sometimes the pig will dig as soon as you make the kill without the whistle.

This quest is annoying as hell.

a) Don't use any AoE spells that might hit a pig if you're defending it from a flayer. The pig will just attack you.

b) Some of the pigs spawn and immediately die.

c) Some of the pigs stay on top of the body of the flayer that just died, and won't run back to where they were.

d) The pigs must be really close to you before you blow the whistle on a tuber.

e) DO NOT blow the whistle on a tuber unless you're SURE the pig will come. The tubers will despawn if the pig is not near enough.

f) It's hard to keep up with the flayer respawn rates. Areas that you just cleared will repop by the time the pigs repop.

g) The little fissures in the ground have a lot of places in which you cannot run up. I got stuck a lot.

This has to be the single most annpying quest I have tried to complete. even the friggin monstrous birds in terrokar pale in comparison to this. The mobs are everywhere, repspawn faster than rabbits mate, and troll an elite with them. Much love to Blizzard for taking my money on a monthly rate to just flat out beat my ass with quests that are damn hard, and group dungeons I'll never get the F in to.

I found it actually helps to do it as a group. When one person gets his ten, before he turns the quest in, he can still use the whistle to dig up the tubers for others and defend the pigs from the flayers... and maybe even kill that damned elite too

Thank God this one is over and I hope Blizzard never does another like this one.

I, like so many others, hated this quest with a passion, although I have hated others more. As someone else posted, the mounds spawn where the are no pigs, the pigs like to taunt the flayers and get themselves killed, and in the rare case that there is a mound near a pig, there's a good chance you're got 2 flayers on it trying to kill it. I did manage to finish it because of one very lucky thing, I got 4 pigs on one tuber.
Anyone try the advice of despawning other tubers in bad areas to get ones in good areas? Did it work?

Personally I found the rewards not worth it (as linked above). Admittedly I was already 70 then and had better gear. Blizzard seriously needs to nerf this, reduce the number of mobs to pigs at least.

As it stands, I can spend over 30 minutes looking for a place that has a live pig and a tuber, risk getting slaughtered by the elite, or I can find something with a better effort to reward ratio.

Screw this one.

Took a little while, maybe 20 minutes, I'm not sure what all the fuss is about.

Go to around 55,16. Don't walk around too large an area. Protect 4 or 5 boars and wait for the tuber mounds to spawn. Keep the boars in that area alive. When you see a tuber mound and there's a boar nearby, use the whistle. At one point I had 3 boars all run to the same mound, and that produces 3 of the tubers you need.

You don't want to blow the whistle while a boar is not near, the mound will despawn.

Just stay in one area, kill the Ravenous Flayers, keep 4 or so boars alive, you'll get it eventually.

Not necessarily bugged, but requires patience. Though, I do think Blizzard could work on this quest to make it less annoying. Just camp one spot and don't move around too much, keep the boars alive.

52 17 is the right place and the quest is not too bad. Find a live pig near a tuber and kill any flayers around it while not aggroing the pig. Then use whistle only when standing exactly on top of a tuber and the pig is not too far away. Otherwise skip tuber and find another. There are bunch around.

Wow... Yeah, go ahead and abandon this quest if you want to throw away one of the longest and most rewarding quest chains in Shadowmoon, spanning 4 instances including Magtheridons Lair... Since there are so many quests in this chain, here are just some of the better rewards: The Cipher of Damnation Trial of the Naaru: Magtheridon And you get a title for the latter. Yuuuup... Totally not worth it.

This quest is obnoxious, for reasons already stated.

However! If you can keep boars alive that are close together - close enough that 2 come running when you blow the whistle - they will both dig up tubers from the same mound. This makes it go a bit faster.

PS: Since the boars are targetable, AoEs such as Seed of Corruption are a bad idea. >.<

This quest will take you some time to complete. Be prepared to get angry and frustrated while doing it, as well...

Best way to do it is to find an area a simply keep it clean for flayers. Then wait around for the respawn of the Tuber Mounds and use the whistle when the piggies are near enough. You don't want to whistle when they are too far away. 15-20ish yards or so or else the tuber moiunds will despawn.

Good luck. The mounds can be found everywhere on the shattered Plains - I found it easiest to do at the entrance to his farm.

Where there are carrots there are no pigs. Where there are pigs there are no carrots. If for some reason a pig and a carrot are near each other you can be sure that the pig is being killed by an insectoid because they are everywhere.

Really annoying quest. First I got no carrots, then I got no carrots, then I suddenly had 9. Of course I couldn't get the 10th because pigs, carrots and insectoids just don't cooperate. Finally I got the last though but I really don't like this quest.

Worst quest ever in 800 levels of WoW. Never never, ever ever, saw a quest so buggy as this. And yet I finished it! What a sad, strange tale.

First tuber mound, first tuber. Very cool.

Then the mad flayer spawn started & I simply couldn't keep boars alive long enough to ... oh, did I mention vanishing tuber mounds? I couldn't keep the boars alive long enough to dig up tubers that disappeared anyway. This is happening to me on my 70 warlock. The tuber mounds disappear, the flayers spawn a million times too fast, and right about when there are (no kidding) a dozen flayers nearly right on top of me, the elite matriarch shows up & flays me into a million small bits.

A corpse run & 20 more minutes saw me with only 3 tubers. I would've quit but I was ... still ... getting ... tubers ...

All in all, it was a very bizarre experience. I finally got my 10 tubers just by hanging around & finally stacking up enough of them that didn't bug-vanish out. Click on a tuber, it vanishes. Click on another tuber, it vanishes. Click on another tuber, it vanishes & 2 flayers attack. Meanwhile 5 other flayers are killing the other 4 boars in sight. Now there's 2 tuber roots ready to pick right together, apparently from tubers that vanished 5 minutes ago ... but wait, I can't pick either one, they're both vanishing ...

Man ... is this why they issue rolling resets? To clear out gunked quests?

The quest seems to have been de-bugged. Took about 15-20 minutes.
My advice:

clear a smallish area of flayers, and keep it clear. Take Auto-Cleave off your felguard if you're a lock (it kills the boars too).
And, importantly, don't blow the whistle unless a boar's near - it makes the plant disappear.

1. Find a tuber.
2. Find a boar fighting a flayer. Take agro from the boar. DO NOT HIT THE BOAR.
3. Pull the fight to the tuber.
4. Finish the fight and immediately blow the whistle on the tuber.

The boar will run back to where it was, but then it will run back to you and dig up the tuber.

Quite fun once you get the hang of it. There are 3 variables, the tuber location, the boars and the MOBs.

The earlier strategy of clearing a area around a set of boars works. The tubers will spawn up among them pretty quick. The Boars will come to a mound you call them too with in a fairly small range. You do have to have a little patience.

Obviously, the larger the area of boars you can protect, the greater the chance a tuber will spawn in it. And, if you can get two boars to come to the same mound, it will generate two tubers.

The key to this quest is keeping a few boars alive long enough for the roots to spawn. If you clear the flayers out of an area, and then defend the boars as they are attacked, the roots will spawn and you will have enough boars around when you blow the whistle.

A few times, I was able to get 3 boars to come when they heard the whistle, which equaled 3 tubors.

Just keep them alive long enough to let the roots spawn.

This mission is weak tea on so many distinct levels..., oh how shall I count the ways. The spawns of the monsters are so high I thought maybe I was playing Gauntlet and there was a monster generator I had to kill. The damn pigs would run away from the tuber points, and when you think the dumb animal is close enough they aren't and wont go near the point and then walk away from it and you lose the tuber because you blew the wistle, then two bad guys run at your stupid pig and proceed to kick the snot out of it, in which case I really had to ask myself 'Do I want something this stupid to live, they cost me a point'. Moral of the story. Weak weak weak. Crumple this mission into the little dustbin of missions you were glad you didn't touch cause it would have made you insane.

This quest is required for the "Cipher of Damnation" questline.
In the end stand some very good rewards (maybe depending on class), and the access questline for the Tempest Keep instance "The Eye" (25man).

About the quest: It is pretty easy to do, just keep killing the Flayers in a certain area, and wait until the boards respawn. Then just use the whistle at the tubers, some will even attract 2-3 boars, and each will create 1 box for you to pick up.

Theres nothing NOOB about this quest or people complaining about it, your a jerk for thinking so. Its all on random spawns, you should know this by now sincing its a close to level 70 quest. It could be easy and it could be difficult depending on your luck of the spawn, gloating like saying "Oh well I got 4 boars on one tube" shows your a freakin' noob and you need uninstall WoW while you should of said "Hey I got lucky" which you were. Yea I got a couple where two fel boars came to one tube, but also the tubes randomly spawn and dissapear, I would defend a couple boars near a tube and it dissapeared after I killed the two attackers, so its all up to whatever spawns, don't take advice from "noobs" who truly show themselves as being just that because they breezed through a quest and got lucky.

One, please stop complaining. No, this quest does not follow the familiar formula of "please kill 14 monsters, and bring back 13 toenails". It is different, and that's what makes it fun.

Two, a little trick I discovered is to wait until a flayer is fighting a pig. Then help the pig kill the flayer. The pig will hold aggro for a while (sometimes too long). This will lower the number of flayers, and raise the number of pigs with less effort.

At one time I had 2 pigs digging at once and got 2 tubers in one shot.

Did this on 2021 TBC Classic . Pretty easy quest. You just use an item on top of a carrot like plant and nearby boars come and dig it. Then a new plant spawns which you just loot.All you have to do is to check that ,closeby aggresive minions dont attack the boars.

If a boar is attacked in the middle of the digging, he will finish it after the combat is over, provided, of course, that it's still alive.

I'd give this a miss if you get frustrated by poorly designed quests. The boars are constantly being killed in the area and in addition to this a lot of the ones that are alive are nowhere near the tubers. That's before you even get into competition with other players.

Also if a boar is out of range when you use the whistle it despawns the tuber, although hilariously if two boars are in range you get two tubers....

Whoever designed this quest, and made it mandatory for the Eye attunement, shall rot in the depths of hell.

1.) The tuber mounds despawn randomly.
2.) You have to stand EXACTLY on the tuber mound in order to use the whistle. Otherwise you just get the error "requires shadowmoon tuber mound" even if you stand right next to it.
3.) If no boar is around and you use the whistle, the tuber mound will just despawn.
4.) The boars are constantly fighting and killed by the nearby flayers. If you try to "rescue" by killing the flayers attacking it, it will just attack you and ignore the whistle.
5.) If you whistle and a boar is nearby, it will stop digging if anything aggro-able is nearby, AND despawn the tuber mound.
6.) If you somehow managed to successfully call over a boar and let it dig up, a lootable object will spawn. Then some idiot can just come over and steal your quest object.

I really don't like flaming and at least try to be constructive when criticizing, but this quest just. SUCKS. BALLS.

Shadowmoon tuber mound is a root you find on the ground, kinda hard to see it as the color is very similar to the ground color.
Once you find one, simply stand close to it and use the whistle.
Note that if there are no Domesticated Felboars around it won't work that is why you also have to clear the Ravenous Flayer killing them.

Oronok Torn-heart at Oronok's Farm in Shadowmoon Valley wants you to recover 10 Shadowmoon Tubers from the Shattered Plains.

He also wants Oronok's Boar Whistle back when you're done.

Description

I've been a lot of things, stranger, but what I once was isn't what's important. What I am now is what matters and what I am now is a farmer.

I use trained felboars to dig up tubers from the hardened earth of the Shattered Plains. Recently, though, flayers from a nest to the northeast have been attacking my animals, preventing me from gathering tubers.

Would you go to the area north of here and gather tubers for me? Use this whistle while standing on a tuber mound and a boar will come dig one up!
