illidan stormrage drops this with a 3% drop chance.. he is the last boss of black temple for those players not knowing, and a great person in lore..! read up on him, since it is enjoyable reading :).. but back to the item, it is one of the most insane pieces of loot i have seen so far.. it is good, and it both got crit and hit, so it is also good for locks and shadow priests.. but it is very good crit so a mage would blow his head off for this item :)

edit: Actually come to think of it, Illidan loot for casters is exactly like all Nefarian loot was for casters pre-TBC.

Little tidbit of useless information: The model for this helm has actually been in the files since 1.9, which suggests that it was meant to be a graphic for AQ loot. Alas, it had no texture to match the model, so it probably remained unused due to the fact that it wasn't finished. Nice to see it wasn't left to rot, I personally think it's a really cool model.

If you look at it, it really does look like it fits more with the Twin Emperors and AQ as a whole rather than Illidan and Outland.

t6 helm is better only if you can't get 2pc or 4pc set bonus without it. If you, say, have 3x sunwell tier pieces, and nothing better than t6 chest, you can easily swap t6 head for one of mentioned helmets and gain dps.

I don't think anyone has noticed this but this is part of a set that never made it into the game. The matching shoulders are found on Morta'gya the Keeper new Cataclysm model in the Hinterlands. They had never seen the light of day until 4.0.

The colors and style are a perfect match, I wish Wowhead had a way of isolating the model and displaying the two items . . .

Got this helm, but was despairing of finding any shoulders to match... But, while farming Black Morass with my shammy for a LW pattern, this item Dragonas dos Três Terrores drops off the first boss. Went back and got it with my mage, and the helm and shoulders make a pretty sweet match. Enjoy!

For transmog, this pairs very good with the Warlock's T6 Traje Maléfico and the Mage's T7(10man) Heroes' Frostfire Garb and somewhat good with the Mage's T10 HC sanctified Sanctified Bloodmage's Regalia (non-sanctified and/or non-HC have color differences, while the set has mostly color similarities).

Spencer, if you would take 2 seconds to look above, you would easily spot that it drops off nothing more of less than Illidan Stormrage aka The Betrayer aka The Strongest Mob in The Whole Damn Game. Good luck getting it :)

is this better than the T6 helmet cowl of the tempest ? tempest has higher int. and also has spirit but this has higher hit/crit rates.

im a fire mage and am doing raids now with the occasional alli kill, so i was wondering which helmet i should be aiming for?

Just thought I'd post some item comparisons for locks aiming to have 4/5 T6 and are debating which piece should be the 5th (excluding Leggings of Channeled Elements):

TOTAL STATS

29+31=50 int
28+21=49 hit
10+47=57 crit
86+75=161 dmg

TOTAL STATS
VESTMENTS OF THE SEA WITCH+HOOD OF THE MALEFIC:

28+36=64 int
27+16=43 hit
41+37=78 crit
80+73=153 dmg

TOTAL STATS
ROBES OF RHONIN+HOOD OF THE MALEFIC:

38+36=74 int
27+16=43 hit
24+37=61 crit
81+73=154 dmg

Above is with "smart gemming", meaning all socket bonuses were accounted for, and only crit/spell dmg gems were used (no +hit/dmg).

The clear choice would be to go with Vestments of the Sea-Witch, unfortunately for me, our guild no longer runs SSC :( Personally, I'll be going for option 3.

Over at MaxDPS.com, this has been calculated as the greatest DPS head piece for destruction locks. I highly recommend it after looking at the figures. They also recommend the Chaotic Skyfire Diamond and a Glowing Nights Eye for the gems.
