He is the end boss of the Escape From Durnholde Keep 5-man instance. A part of The Caverns Of Time.

Strategy

The fight starts off with 3 waves of dragons that must be defeated. The first 2 waves have 3 dragons and the third wave has 4. Each wave will have at least one caster mixed in that needs to be killed first and preferably without the tank as they can put a nasty debuff (-50% healing and -50% damage debuff) on the player meleeing them. Sometimes the last group will have 2 casters that need to be dealt with, but not always. Once all the waves have been cleared you will have a spit second to drink before the Boss joins in the fight.

The boss has a hard hitting knock back attack as well as a shadow based curse attack. To get around the knock back the tank should position his back against any of the various buildings and fight there. As long as the tank holds aggro he should be the only one getting the curse, however when knocked back the aggro list will clear for a few seconds so it is possible for others to get it. The curse does 750 damage every 3 seconds for 15 seconds, so can be hard to deal with for some players. He also clears buffs from the tank, which is very annoying if you are a paladin tanking it since your righteous fury will get dispelled and you can loose aggro easily if you are not contantly recasting it. If the tank holds aggro and does not get knocked around allot, the fight is not that difficult, especially with Thralls added DPS. (From Tentonhammers guildwebsite.)

Here's what I did. My party died, and I ended up aspect of the cheetah kiting the dragon around Hillsbrad, worked just fine.

From what I have gathered from my tries :

The guy next dragon at the start of the instance can restore the timeline to before Thrall died, but his power is limited. I counted 3 wipes before we got to this boss, and then when we wiped at the boss, Thrall didn't respawn.

Also something to note, whether its bugged or not, When Thrall is dead permanently, the Epoch Hunter cannot be killed. He will stay at 1%.

If you are doing the Escape from Durnhold Quest Line there is something you must know about on this fight to recieve credit. EVERYONE must be alive when the Boss dies. A few seconds later, a Blood Elf Spawns and talks to Thrall and then you are given credit.

This dragon involved at the end will summon 2-3 ? waves of Dragonkin, then he himself will land. He has a nasty Curse that does a lot of damage per tick, but otherwise hes a standard Tank and Spank encounter except for the knockback and the buff removing.

I tanked him (68 prot pally) and we burned him down relatively easily (68 arms warrior, 67 priest, 66 druid and 66 hunter)

After the dragon is dead this instance/quest is over and rewards like 17,900 xp at level 68

If Thrall's third death is during this fight, Epoch Hunter will still be there to fight if you go back. However, DON'T as he will stay at 1% forever and cost you all dura!

Completed this event in heroic mode today. Learning dos and donts is a bit rough from the whole three goes and youre done thing. There are three spawns of dragonkin groups before you fight epoch hunter, the third bunch had 4 dragonkin instead of 3; the extra dragonkin being an additional infinite slayer. These hit like trucks and kill clothies like nothing. Double tanking them is unadviseable, CC one or both for the win. I had the clothies stay in the doorway of the inn during the initial parts of each wave so that they were less likely to go splat by getting proximity aggro as well as we were sure not to do any kind of heals etc in between the waves so that I (the warrior) was able to pick up my targets and CCer was able to CC before heal aggro became an issue. Between wave two and three I popped shield wall so that the pair of slayers could be dealt with without the danger of heal aggro. Getting through the third wave was the only hard part of the encounter. The epoch hunter himself isnt horribly hard he does hit pretty strong but a good healer/tank combo can deal with it. Class makeup was Prot Warr (me), holy priest, rogue, fire mage, lock --BP(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##ElhonnaDS##DELIM##

Like similar bosses before him (Broggok), the Epoch Hunter himself is a giant pansy. The waves of adds before him are rougher to deal with than the boss himself.

If you fail the instance and Thrall has not respawned BUT Epoch Hunter HAS respawned, don't attempt to fight this boss. Here's why:

I just attempted this with a group. We failed the fight twice and figured "well we'll just go and do it for the loots". You will be able to damage Epoch Hunter, but his HP will freeze at 1% rendering him invincible, despite the combat log saying you've done damage to him.

Upon visiting Tarren Mill before hand, is it possible to kill all the Tarren Mill guards (assuming it's they who turn into the dragonkin) and not fight the 4 waves?

It's nice to have a balance druid on this fight, because they are optimally placed to cc two of the three adds on the first few waves. Simply sleep the caster (it's the one that hangs back) and root one of the melee (remember this is an outdoors instance!) then get your party to move onto the one thrall is attacking. It saves a lot of the healer's mana.

As far as I know, the waves come from different directions; the first one comes from behind the epoch hunter, while for the second, turn left. Healer and squishies should avoid standing where they can be blindsided by the waves, but other than these it's a pretty easy fight.

Nice play of words. That you have to deliver the news for a heroic daily quest, in the form of a head-line, makes it a slight bit funnier.

I would perfer a rouge or cat form Druid for this, because if the tank holds aggro, then they can Shred or Backstab, build up combo points, use the combo points and repeat till death

Epoch Hunter is one of the high commanders of the infinite dragonflight.Til know we know that the infinite dragonflight wants to break the order of Time thus being Mortal enemies of the Bronze dragonflight,but didnt you ask your self why are they doing this.Well i did,you see in Old hillsbrad Foothills the mention "The MAster"so a serten creature is there "master"and is doing this.I think its a Old God!Think about it the Old gods know that we are getting stronger and stronger so the best why to stop us is to break hte timeline.

I love that the townspeople around Tarren Mill are completely unperturbed by a group of random people they don't know and an orc fighting town guards turned into dragons in the middle of town. They just walk around going about their business, right through the fight, and don't even break stride.

Incase you were wondering, Epoch isn't part of what happened in the past. He's an infinite dragonflight lieutenant sent to screw up the past.

This along with all other fights in The Escape from Durnholde is soloable by a decently geared 80 DK if you are blood or frost spec you will have no trouble if you are unholy you might need another character to come with you, preferably healer.

In case you're wondering about the low drop rates of some items on this boss, his loot table is completely messed up, heroic and normal modes are mixed together. (The same is true for all bosses in this dungeon on wowhead)

If you were a math wizard, you could probably work out the drop rates based on the amount of times hes dropped a primal nether (should drop only in heroic version of this boss, i believe, and should drop 100% of the time), but i am not that math wiz.

Like to think of this boss as the Quest giver turned evil. Ever sense End time i think of the Bronze dragon flight all becoming evil at the Very End f time and then erasing what they witnessed So long ago. an each one of the boss's i Think of a Good guy gone bad sort, just something to make the Battle more interesting.

Last night we attempted this boss and faile on the first try. When we returned to instance Thrall was neither in his jail nor inside the house, however the Epoch Hunter was still there. We attempted to kill him and we were able to take him to about 950 HP (aprox. 1%).

At this point I tried to use Shado Word Death on him, which does approximatelly 800 to 1,100 damage, but it did not work. I assumed he was immune to shadow magic but our warlock had used Shadow Bolts during the whole fight.

Will he bugg out at 1% if Thrall dies and will the instance need a reset?

If that worked for you group then the instance might have been bugged for us. Thrall did not respawned inside the house.

We wiped on this last boss and used our chances,
when everyone had gone I decided to have a go myself.

I've kited this guy all around the entire map.. he will not go down past 1%.
I was very frustrated that I couldn't kill him.
I'm guessing like the previous posts have said, that Thall must get the killing blow or be alive or something.

I should have had him but Bliz don't like to play fair :(

Well after a 2 tries, we were determined to down this boss on our final try. The thing that really did it for us was to be able to focus fire on the mobs as they came, we let Thrall tank one, and I, the druid, would tank as many as I could, and our offtank warrior would pickup the slack. After the first 3 fall, watch out for the caster + a few more coming from the left, over near a fence. On our first attempt, the caster was able to kill our shadow priest before I could do anything about it. Watch for those mobs and let the tank tag em as soon as they spawn. After that group is down, you just have one more to deal with - but this is the biggest. Pull out all the stops here, and don't be afraid to use all your mana. The thing that is crucial about winning this fight is being able to regen your parties' health and mana before fighting the boss. Make sure everyone backs up (we sat inside the chapel) and just let Thrall tank the epoch hunter for awhile. During this time, your party should be eating and drinking to max, once they are finished, just pwn away.

If your group is low on HP/MP, and the Epoch Hunter is about to fight and wipe your group, then you can easily buy yourself some more time if you have a Hunter in the group.

The moment the Epoch Hunter reaches the ground, have your Hunter aggro him down and kite him far, far away. This will give your group a lot more time to drink and eat up.

acctually, since this is a instance, the mobs wont reset when you run away from them (exceppt the 20-25 bears/spiders) so a druids/hunter can just damage him once and then run as far away as they want without losing the aggro. Found this out when i was scouting around in hillsbrad and by accident aggroed a few mobs from tarren mill. They kept folowing me untill i left the instance

I was just in a group that managed to bug the encounter so that there were massive delays between waves. We had myself (tank) and a rouge sit under the Epoch hunter during his speech and then attacked the human defenders before they changed into dragons. It stopped the encounter for like 1 min after the first wave and every wave after that was the same. Gives you time to eat and drink.

The first time I did this, we wiped once before taking him out, and the second time we wiped, but Thrall came through for us and took him down. =P It was awesome.

Really, this is the easiest boss ever, I think that the boss before this, the Pally with the 2 adds was harder.

Group was me 67 Prot War
67 Shammy
70 Shadow Priest
68 Mage
70 Holy Priest Healing

What we did, is, have the tank hold aggro on the 2 melee dragon spawns, and have dps dps down the caster, the caster puts a -50% healing recived and a +50% damage done debuff on you. The boss is easy, tank and spank really.

Last night we killed him without having a healer. Our priest (lvl66 holy) died at wave no. 3, but we managed to kill him. He has just 100k HP and it's a very basic tank and spank fight. The only nasty thing is his aura that takes your buffs, a mage, shaman or hunter can and should dispel this.

I have a few questions about this fight.

1. if he has an aura that dispells all buffs around him; would that trigger the final bloom for lifebloom?

2. Can mages spellsteal this aura?

i just did this last night, we 4 manned the whole instance, me a 67 mm hunter, an ele shammy, a holy priest and warrior tank. we wiped twice and really didnt know what we were doing, the secret is the mobs at first, if u know the order, front, left side then front again ur tank should be able to pick it up. on the third try we used the order and had no problem, after u kill the mobs u get some time to eat and drink. the boss dragon just tank and spank, hope this helps someone

Durn is quite a cool instance, the resuce thrall, then mount up, open space that it is, compared to most of the dungeon crawling in caves and tunnels. Travel to an alliance place back in time, then kick some dragon butt. The problem is, on heroic mode, I want a drop from this epoch hunter, but no one seems to run Durnholde on Heroic mode, and I never seem to find it as a daily.

Ok. This boss may be hard for a group of 68-71s. On normal of course heroic's hell.

This guide is for the normal and heroic. Same rules apply on both difficulty setting.

At first 3 waves of adds will spawn. Dps and healer might wanna get behind the tank and let him/her take aggro. If you have a hunter or mage (both would be very helpful), have them either polymorph or trap an add. Be wise with your mana because this is only the first wave. Second wave you may do the same as well as for third. Then the Epoch Hunter will finally attack. He's easy if you saved up a good portion of mana but the only struggle in this fight is the wave adds. That's the fight, you just need proper planning and resourcefulness of your group's class skills.

Had a tough time with this guy on heroic mode. The boss himself wasn't all that bad, hit 2-3k melee and his dots hurt, but the hardest part is the adds before it. We have to have thrall tank because of his huge hitpoint pool, but he was pretty low at the third group. The only way we could seem to get it done was for me to run in and shout and shield wall to absorb some of the damage. Unfortunatly by the time we got it all cleared our healer was spent. Tried to have thrall tank Epoch but ended up pulling him off with just white damage, and then thrall died (for the third time). Epoch stuck around, but after that he hangs at 1% and is impossible to kill. Still fairly easily kitable by a hunter in heroic though.

Hardest part is the adds at the beggining. A hunter could solo this boss if there were no adds. Cause was in a group lost the druid and shammy just kited away just serpent sting to death took about 14 min. probably helps having increased range talent. however this wont work unless you clear a path of patrols, which we did because thrall got bugged in church so we tried pullin pats to see if it would unstuck him, in the end had to kill thrall and start off at just outside TM. Just ran him around hillsbrad staying away from epic lvl 23 spiders {sarcasm}. Other party members kept getting the dot when they got close to him so i think the range talent puts you just outside his cast range.

I recommend have a druid heal and a pally tank, a hunter is nice at times aswell.

Heres some help for the boss.
He has an AOE sand breath that reduces run speed and attack time, this should only really have any effect on a rogue or enhancement shaman.
He has an aura debuff that will strip a beneficial spell every few seconds, a real pain in the ass for any pally tanks, and he hits like a truck, His adds spawn (1)directly under him (2) against the fence behind the building to the bosses right (3) just behind him in a wave of 4 mobs. When the last mob in every wave gets to about half health have the tank start running to the next waves location, if you followed my advice and got a pally have him drop his conc where the mobs spawn. Regen heals here get stripped by the aura, have the pally and anyone else who can buff moniter the tanks buffs and spam any useless buff on the tank so the regen heals and neccessary buffs are not dispelled, hope this helps.

For the rest of the instance just run around and kill the mobs, if you healer is getting low on mana have thrall tank at first and then have the tank get agro. He will stop 3 times before the boss, every time he stops med up, make sure everyone has a decent amount of mana and hp pots before the run as the waves will hurt your pools.

After leaving the Hold, Thrall hops on a horse.
If you run through the grass and lose sight of Thrall and can't proceed, he's hiding near a tree about 20m away from the Barn towards the river.
Talk to him there.

If you wipe during the fight with this boss, Thrall will respawn in the Inn (standing next to Taretha).
