When people say Rogue's should have a fast OH, is that ONLY 1.40 weapons, or is it relative to what you have in the Main Hand? For example, if I have heroic Cruel Barb in MH (2.70 speed), would Dagger of Restless Nights (1.80) or Throat Slasher (1.40 and same stats) be best? Because the "Damage" range is higher on this weapon.

Taken from my faction relative post on the same weapon. For reference, both the Horde and Alliance versions are exactly alike in damage, stats, speed, and cost. The only difference between the two is the vendors who sell them and their rep requirements (exclusively because of Horde/Alliance respectively).

Assassination Rogues favor fast off-hand weapons, as do Combat Rogues (and for the sake of argument, Subtlety Rogues), because of their mechanics.

Assassination has extreme synergy with the three following;

- Deadly Poison, this poison upon application at 5 stacks instantly applies the main hand poison, Instant Poison. The more Deadly Poison applications and subsequent procs, means more Instant Poison damage; which means your DPS scales better because you get more applications of one of your top DPS abilities.

- Fast Off-Handed Weapons, as stated before, Deadly Poison procs additional Instant Poisons when it reaches 5 stacks and is refreshed. Because Deadly Poison is applied more with fast weapons, this directly correlates to an increase in Instant Poison procs, and thus an increase in DPS. Because of the final pointer below, Mastery, Poison damage (and Envenom) greatly outweighs the damage done by your Mutilate. 1.40 (or faster, should they exist in end-game content) are ideal for Assassination Rogues in their off handed weapon. (This is not the case with Main Hand, as the Instant Poison application does not currently out weigh the damage lost via Mutilate. This ONLY applies to a Rogue's Main Hand, which should be slower.)

- Mastery, Assassination Rogue Mastery exclusively buffs all damage done by Poisons you use (NOT Nature damage, only Rogue Poisons and Envenom). Additionally, there is no "Mastery Cap" for Assassin specced Rogues, meaning there is no point currently in which Mastery becomes less valuable than other stats such as Hit (unless you're below Spell Hit cap), Haste, Crit, etc. Because of this, Instant Poison's damage and proc amount wants as much damage and application as possible.

Subtlety Rogues want a slow Main Hand (for Ambush, Backstab, and in minor, Hemorrhage) along with a fast Off-Hand for Deadly Poison application. Combat Rogues want a slow Main Hand (Sword, Axe, Mace, Fist) and a fast Off-Hand for Combat Potency (Energy regeneration) procs, along with Deadly Poison.

Combat, for example, really want for the maximum DPS, a fast Off-Hand because the Energy you regain from Combat Potency greatly out weighs the damage done by the slower off-hand.

I found that the grind is too long to get to bother with the weapon. Queue for a Zul'Gurub and get the Twinlades off Jin'do. Each boss gives you Justice points too which can be used to buy the 346 JP dagger.
