If this is to make all totems one hell ya finally a reason for shamans to do the air quest(the only reason to do it was the totem if you haven't bought yourself a highlevel totem https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=23199 ). Finally 2 more bankslots for shamans :) too bad you cannot throw them away :( .

You receive this item from a quest from Siln Skychaser where you have to go to Orgrimmar talk to Gotura Fourwinds and turn in your four totems.

Edit: Gotura Fourwinds is standing right next to Thrall. He must be new because I've never saw him before and he's not even in the database yet. :P

My low level shaman is very happy right now with all the changes in 3.2! For the alliance, the quest ender can be found at the northern side of the Great Forge in Ironforge. This handy item not only gets rid of those tiresome totems that were clogging up my bag space, it's also an equipable item and the icon looks very cool to boot - no more waiting to level 57 to finally put something in my totem slot! =)

To start the quest (horde), visit Siln Skychaser in Thunderbluff Spirit Rise. It's a low-level quest, so you may not see the ! over her head. The quest is called Relic of the Earthen Ring. You bring your four totems to Gotura Fourwinds at the Valley of Wisdom in Orgrimmar. The quest reward is this single totem that "Counts as an Air, Earth, Fire and Water totem."

For Alliance, the quest is available from Sulaa, shaman trainer in the Crystal Hall of the Exodar. (As mentioned above, you will most likely need to have "Low-Level Quests" tracking selected in order to see any sign that it's available. Sulaa is the normal-looking, non-Broken draenei female on the ground floor of the Hall, across the semi-transparent bridge.)

All you have to do is travel to Farseer Eannu, in the central hall of Ironforge (in an otherwise unmarked building). He is a newly added NPC beside the shaman trainer; ask the guards to point you to the shaman trainer. Eannu is a Broken Draenei in the northeast building of the ring around the Great Anvil, just next to the path connecting the central hub to the Hall of Explorers.

You will need to have all four totems already in your possession, as they are all required for the quest. (Thus I assume that you can get this quest as soon as you've completed the Air Totem quest, which is the last of the four you receive.)

Just talk to him to complete the quest; he will take your four totems and give you this item, which you can immediately equip.

Finishing the quest will eat the four original Totems and give you this item as a reward. As others have stated, you do not need to have it equipped for it to work. However, you will not find a relic totem with stats until at least 52, so you might as well equip it. This is essentially a way of freeing up four bag slots. I have just returned to WoW after a long break and am starting from scratch, so it is nice to free up four bag slots when you can't afford the big ones.

Just a note, you need to have the 4 original totems in your bag, or else the quest will be a grey exclamation point to you.

I had been carrying the BoE totem (https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=23199) in my bags on my 40-ish Shaman - the original 4 were still in the bank - and I couldn't pick up the quest until I was carrying them.

A special note for all high level shamans:

This quest doesn't seem to display as available unless you have all 4 of your totem items in your bag (I banked my master totem at the same time just to be use the game realized those 4 were 'all I had' and to give me the quest). So if you're having trouble picking up the quest so you can get and destroy the relic to free 4 bank slots, try that.

Same as a lot of people above me, I had these horrid space-wasters in my bank for months, since the time I first received them.

So, as said above;

Make sure you have your "old" totems in your bag. Go to The Exodar, and find Sulaa https://www.wowhead.com/cata/npc=17219 in the Crystal Hall.
She will give you the Quest: Relic of the Earthen Ring https://www.wowhead.com/cata/quest=14111

Then travel to Ironforge, and go see Farseer Eannu , https://www.wowhead.com/cata/npc=35073 in the room where the Shaman Trainer is.

On quest completion, you will receive https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=46978, and all 4 of your "old" totems will be destroyed.

So, now you have 1 totem, which will fit in your ranged slot, but you can delete this totem if you have a replacement totem on higher level. (Raids/Badges etc.)

If you would ever need the Totem of the Earthen Ring again, just speak to Farseer Eannu again to get it back.

So I put this in my bank accidently when I went to SM to farm silk cloth but I noticed I could still place totems.. Is this a bug or do we not actually have to have it in our bags?

Holy Jebus. Three years after I first started playing my Shaman, now... NOW I finally don't have to see those totem icons every time I open my bags! And four extra spaces in my bag to boot.

I mean really... in that entire three-year span Blizzard NOT ONCE changed those icons. Those icons are burned into my retinas by now, I see them even with my eyes closed.

and tried getting the water totem but i can't find where they give out the

If you, for any reason, destroy your totem, you can take it back from Gotura Fourwinds.
(tested it because i got surprised when i learned that it was destroyable)

I gotta say, Im not taking this on my shaman
I was 80 at the time this came along, but I the 4 totems are still much more fun to have now that they will become unique
But regarding master totems, its a great change, frees up 4 bag slots for all shamans.

I am a new Shaman and I see other shamans dropping all four totems at once but I can only drop one at a time...

How do you drop them at once? I thought maybe this item might have something to do with it.

In the Elemental Tab of your spellbook you should find three spells called "Call of the Elements", "Call of the Ancestors" and "Call of the Spirits". (Maybe the comes along another one later, but I am Level 73 atm). Actually these spells are presets for a combination of 4 totems you can activate (one of each totem class, which are earth, fire, water and air). You can setup the combinations via your totem bar. By casting one of these "Calls" you will simultaniously activate those 4 totems.

As of current patch, it seems that you can place this item in your bank and still be able to summon all your totems.

I destroyed it and can still cast my totems, as i had a relic for the slot so i replaced it.
