By far the most difficult quest I have ever done. Some quick tips are:

Be dueling a warlock that you trust immensely while fighting Solenor, if you can keep him wing clipped, have aspect of the cheetah up at all times, you don't have to kill beetles. The reasoning for the warlock is for Curse of Recklessness (no fearing from Solenor).

Simone's pet doesn't need to be killed, but you need to loot her head before he kills you.

For Klinfran, if you are specced for Scatter Shot, you can kite to different ends of the Burning Steppes then use Scatter Shot and go the other way. He is leashed to only Burning Steppes, so no Redridge/BRM.

Simone - I used Dream Dust on Precious, Had a Hunter friend with me FD during the duration of the fight with Aspect of the Wild up, leaving me with Aspect of the Monkey. Freeze Trap, Aimed Shotted then Conc Shotted Simone, leaving Precious to get trapped... and then Melee'd Simone down (once Precious unfreezed, I used Dream Dust) Loot the Head, FD or Kill Precious with a friend :)

Klinfran - Major Mana Pots & Demonslaying Pots FTW (I've heard he's now bugged post 2.0.1 - so I'm not sure)
Freeze Trap, Aimed Shot, Let him Freeze, Auto Shot, Scorpid
Now, I didn't get a special weapon, I used Thunderwood Poker & Bone Slicing Hatchet (Both with +15 Agil on them) I melee'd about 3-4 times, Wing clip'd, and strafed away.. I listened for the Enrage roar, Scorpid, Melee 3-4 Hits, Wing Clip, Strafe, about 7mins later... loot your head

Solenor - I had a guildmate Warlock friend cast Curse of Recklessness on me during the fight, if your in a Duel - Solenor registers your duel partner as a threat to you and will not despawn if you cast during the engage. I used Heal Pots, and Greater Shadow Prot Pots, Aspect of the Monkey incase the Bugs caught me. Unloaded bullets into him through various attacks (Aimed, Arcane, Multi, Serpent) then run up and Wing Clip! rinse, repeat, and be careful... his head will be yours!

Artorius - He was my bane, you have to be careful with him, set him up at the bottom of the hill of his patrol path... get 2-3 friends and Add Distraction Insurance, Aimed, Serpent, then take off on your run.. I used the jump shot method... ran him to the road, then headed towards South WS.. all the while jump shot, Arcane Rank 1, jump shot Serpent Highest Rank.. shoot him ever 3-4 seconds so he doesn't Evade bug.. patience will grant you your stave!

I found personally the best strategy for all the bosses are having a warlock close for blood pact and health stones, a priest for resurrecting incase you die to increase amount of tries before despawn, and a hunter with track humans on to watch for opposing factions to despawn the demon intentionally. It is also very important that your group watches for additional mobs and aggros them with a single shot and kite them away from your path one additional mob can equal game over.

Solenor- The best strategy used for solenor I foudn was the set of ruins of the AQ gates by the western part of his path. Spawn him and kite him up the ruins, wingclip him at the middle of the ramp to the East of the ruins near where you spawn him. At the topmost edge wingclip again and jump down. (This forces the bugs to walk around and you can easily turn and pelt him with auto shot and AOe the bugs with volley when they do come. Repeat this tactic from level to level until you are back on the ground and repeat usually by time your back on the ground he is almost dead.

Solenor - A nice little tip for Solenor is when he starts off, drop a explosive trap and have him run into that. Then wing clip him and bolt outta there. The trap should to AoE damage to everything around him, and if you have curse of Recklessness on you, you shouldnt need to worry about the fears, so for the time the explosive trap lasts, you should have no problem with the bugs either. Just unload into him for when you can, but be sure you have a few mana pots on you and a shadow protection pot on you to keep the damage off you. Once the bugs start poping, and your trap wears off, when he's wing cliped git up volley rank 1 when you have all the bugs in a group. this should finish off the little suckers with use of the least mana as possible. This guy was the biggest pain for me personally, but that really just depends on what you're good at.

Artorius - The main problem you WILL run into here, is getting around corners, and mana. So, when you start a turn, any turn at all, be sure to hit him in the face with a concussive shot, but dont get too far ahead of him in the process. Also, keep rank 1 arcane shot out like Kaenos said, and hit him with that every now and then between serpent stings to stay on his aggro list. I only shot him with the sting once every 3-5 seconds, because if you spam him, it will only stack up to 5 times, and your just wasting mana. The main thing to remember here besides the wait time on serpent sting is that rank 9 serpent sting DOESN'T work. One of my guildmates found this out the hard way, and only did minimal damage to him. This may have been updated in 2.0.1, but to the best of my knowledge, stick to sting rank 8.

Simone - Basically easy to kill, i got her pet down first, and the killed her, but as long as you have nature protection pots and some mana pots on you just in case, you should be able to kite her around, even without killing her pet if you want to. Having another hunter follow you around with aspect of nature on is really good, because that allows you to keep aspect of the hawk on, which can really add to your DPS.

Klinfran - Best thing to use here is rank one for wing clip. It gets the job done without wasting mana. The strat here can really be based on your weapon speed. Since each weapon has a specific attack speed (2.4s or whatever) once you scorpid sting him, you run up and attack him for 10 seconds. Your weapon can help time this, because if you have a 2.0 second attack speed, just hit him 5 times, wing clip and start running away. Try not to use raptor strike, because this fight is gonna be the longest one, and you will need the mana. When the fight starts off, hit him with concussive shot, frost trap, whatever you got to slow him down, and once he enrages hit him with scorpid. Then, start the attack cycle of running up, hitting him so many times, wing clip, run away, wait for enrage, and hit him with scorpid sting again. From there rince and repeat for roughly 7-10 minutes. Keep some mana pots with you for this fight specifically, and be sure to have a tuber or two for some health incase you slip up and he nails you once or twice. when you get far enough away from him after wing clipping him, you can hit him with an auto shot or two to add to some damage, but never try to aimed shot him. Also, don't use counterattack if it comes up. Imp wingclip can be helpful, but keep in mind you need to wait 10 seconds after you wing clip him for the enrage to come back up, and if you counterattack him, hes only stuck in place for 4 seconds, so he will be charging at you for 6 seconds, until he enrages, which most likely means hes gonna enrage within your minimum range. The most useful thing to use if this does happen though is scatter shot, then get away from him and hit him with a scorpid sting. You might get hit once or twice, but you should be able to survive 2-3 hits, and then just pick up where you left off and learn from your mistakes.

This quest is very difficult and time consuming, what I do on my server is I charge to kill these demons. Seeings how some of them are very difficult and gear can easily play a big part, also having experience doing them helps as well. I've got it down to about one-shotting all of them with the rights help and consumables. This quest can be a good way to make money if you're a experienced Hunter and have been through this already, nothing really helpful just some fun info I though i'd share with you all. :)

Some notes about this quest: 1) Solenor's chill from Frost Trap isn't working. 2) Klinfran won't unenrage. 3) It is possible for 2 hunters to group up and have a more experienced hunter kill the demon and the other loots.

As of patch 2.0.10, the quest is still bugged (see notes above).

Additionally, you can still kill the demons in humanoid form and be able to loot the heads. This benefits the hunter in two ways:

1) Solenor will not fear you nor spawn bugs. I was able to kite him easily without any shadow protection pots or a curse of recklessness on me.

2) Attempting the demons in humanoid form will not reset their 15 min timer. You can attempt them over and over again without fear of them despawning.

I haven't tested if having a friend helping you dps the demon in humanoid form is possible.

As an important note, you CAN NOT use your pet during any of the encounters whatsoever. Failed two separate spawns before figuring out when they meant 'alone' that included your pet.

If ANYTHING besides you registers on a demons aggro list, it's game over.

No pets, no snakes, no trinket pets, no engineering tricks, no direct interferance from other players of any sort, nothing. period.

It appears there is an easy way around this quest, or at the very least it worked with Franklin the Friendly. After successfully killing him right as I died while wandering alone, I got my Hunter friend who had been having trouble with him and burst him down, before dying this time thankfully. My friend got the quest reward without even touching him. :)

As a level 63 hunter specced into marksmanship, I was able to kite all four of the demons just using Concussive Shot, Serpent Sting, and Chimera Shot and Aspect of the Cheetah and just using an occasional Mana or Health potion. Just make sure you clear a path to any possible roads, and in the case of Simone, any patrolling Devilsaurs. Ironically, the only one that wasn't a first time go was Artorius since I got aggroed by some Chimaera and bears I forgot to clear. Got him the second time though :D

I had a HECK of a time with this one! I'm not sure if it's still avaiable since they made Onyxia a lvl 80 raid now...

I have had this quest since I was level 60 and I am just now strong enough to SOLO it... and I'm lvl 78! Totally lame! And I still need to get the sinew...

It was worth waiting SOOO long to FINALLY get... more of a souvenier now...

I found that i can use my pet (I'm a 70 orc hunter when i have done this) by sending it in, letting it die then picking up the attacks from my dead pet. You must understand: YOU CAN NOT in any way buff your pet after it has gained the demons aggro or he will reset. Same goes for you attacking first then sending pet in and getting a buff (like the wolf howl.) If this doesnt work for all, then sorry that i got everyones hopes up.

Also, they hit my pet for HUGE damage with a AoE. having it use lick your wounds helps for keeping it alive for a few more seconds.

Just keep track demon and use disengage to get away
Don't use pets but that's in the questguide aswell

Alot of the strategies are outdated for the demons so I'll add this little tip. Just killed Solenor and Simone easily (66 BM spec) they are all bugged in the way that once you engage them they don't transform into their demon form and you can kill them in humanoid form and still loot the head, HOWEVER if you die by some bad luck when you return to your corpse they will be in their full demon form, found this out when I tried to kill Klinfran but missed some mobs to clear and he got me. On my way to get Artorious now so ill add anything else i find. You can also have your pet active on Simone, not sure about the others just make sure all abilities are turned off or you get gibbed, the spirit bond, 10% movement speed and 3% extra damage really is nice.

EDIT: just killed Artorious in Tauren form with my pet out, just make sure any kind of buffs your pet might give you are turned off in the pet spellbook (wolf howls, etc.) the demons are still weak against what they are normally weak against in demon form, Artorius still got wrecked by serpent sting. They also do some but not all of their demon abilities while in humanoid form, Simone for example still casts the ranged attack power reduction debuff, but Artorious will not curse you and Solenor will not fear or summon bugs.

k killed them all and this is how. talk to them to make them stop moving then plant explosive trap at their feet then get them to show their true self at which point the trap goes off and u start swinging. they die pretty quick and thats it for all same trick.

So, I'm going to state the obvious, since no one else has (not even another hunter), but these guys, despite appearing in non-threatening forms, can only be tracked as demons. Because that's what the really are, don'tcha know? Don't be silly like me and forget and start tracking humanoids. =P

If you have this quest still in 4.0.1, don't abandon it. Vartrus will not offer the quest back (his buddies still offer the other two parts).

When talking to a GM about this, I was told (after two others had insisted I needed to repair/remove addons/delete all macros and keybindings) that the quest had been removed from the game in light of the Cataclysm expansion on the horizon and there's nothing I can do to get the Stave at this point.

EDIT: A day after being told it was unobtainable, the quest was miraculously obtainable again, and the notices were posted that it was fixed. Glad I didn't delete anything!

Few things:

Second, watch those videos. They help so much more than a picture or text ever could. In doing these demons, be prepared to spend ALOT of time and a good deal of gold if you're not an alchemist. Shadow protection potions go for 20g per stack on my server, and you'll use three in the last fight.

Also, be prepared to die alot. It happens, don't get fustrated.

But one of the bigger needs for every fight is MANA POTIONS . I picked up alchemy for this reason, and made stacks and stacks of the level 25 potions. Obviously it wasnt as effective as the major mana pots, and I got pretty low in mana after every fight, but I again, wasnt feeling like supporting a fairly inflated alchemy market. I usually popped a 25 mana pot at 75% and it restored me to about full, and had one or two more in the fights.

You'll spend a bunch of attempts on it. For the first boss (Doombringer in WS), you could take off your armor completely if you want. This boss is easy kiting (even though i'll take a few tries to get used to it.) You dont need a party or someone to clear the area on their mount, either, you can just clear a path of hostile units, fight a demon on the road (which I did alot. It made it so much easier, and demons would pretty much destroy any moron who tried to disrupt the fighting)

You cannot have any sort of help at all. If a player besides yourself either buffs, heals, or attacks while your in combat with the demon he will call you a coward and despawn. There is a exploit where a shadow priest can heal you using vampiric aura or something and it will heal you for 50+ every few sec. But its not that great. The only way players can help you is taking out the adds, telling other players to go away and buffing you before the fight. You can group up with players but set the loot for free for all, ive had a issue where i couldnt loot the head. Im still on this quest and it takes a lot of time to get the strat down for all these demons, its about timing and a lot of mana and healing potions.

if you are able to kill her b4 the felhunter if you do this and u have a friend with you. u can get your friend to help kill the felhunter. or once u kill her u are able to loot her head and Feign.

All this talk about mana doing this quest. Just use mana oil on your weapon if you have a low spirit gear. If you realy want to get your mana up there use: Mana oil, Nightfin Soup, Mageblood Potion= Mana no prob

When you down Simone the Seductress and Klinfran the Crazed use MAGIC DUST (it makes them fall asleep). You will find it in Westfall and it will drop from DUST DEVILS.

For SIMONE you need this to put her pet to sleep while you take care of her. After that you have downed her you can FD and the pet will stop fighting you or you can have your m8's jump in and take care of him, you will not lose loot (loot MUST be set on: FREE FOR ALL, on all of the demons).

When you fight KLINFRAN in BS you can just put him to sleep when ever you need to heal up, use BANDAGE not potions. This will make the fight a joke :). Just take it easy and get your timing right on him.

Seems now after the 2.0 patch, if you have tranq shot you must use that to drop frenzy on the mob in BS, scorpid sting doesnt work anymore. Not sure if it will work if you dont have tranq shot. It doesnt really matter because you can drop traps in combat now so i just pritty much dropped a freezing trap, ran max range, waited until the trap brok and concussive shot him, then kited until i could drop trap again and repeat. kite him back and forth on the road, works great.

I was in the middle of this quest when the 2.0 patch came out, I killed the one in winterspring and UC before the patch, then after I killed the one in Silithus and BS.

For you hunters doing this quest after the 2.0 patch, it is much easier.

Silithus: You can now lay traps in combat (with a 2 second arming time) The explosive trap will do the trick for the little bugs. Just set one down every once in awhile and try to lure them all toward it. Still might want help to clear out some of the extra mobs and keep them off you. I used 1 shadow protection pot and some bandages.

Burning Stepps: Seems that scorpid sting doesnt drop his frenzy anymore, if you have tranq shot, its not really much of a problem (except the fact that tranq shot has a 20 second cooldown). What I did was aspect of the cheetah/ice trap kiting. I ran him along the road. Just spawn him, then lay an Ice Trap and aimed shot and dps him alittle until he gets there, then run max range and wait until the trap breaks, right as its breaking I used concussive shot to slow him down and just auto-shot him until i could lay another trap (30 second cooldown FTL) then let him run over the trap and repeat. Very simple but takes quite awhile.

UC: This one I did before the patch, but was easy, i did it without any special buffs. Aimed Shot the pet, then immediately concussive shot the demon, then just a simple kite of the pet (with aspect of the cheetah) you might need to re-concussive shot the demon. After the pet is down you can begin melee on the demon, Every time she started casting I ran back and viper sting (silences her). This might be dificult now because viper sting now has a 20 second cooldown as of the 2.0 patch.

WS: This was the easiest demon, just use one of the above strats. Simple kite with rank1 arcane shot, this only took me a couple of minutes to kill.

I found this to be very helpful for the WS demon and a new Strat for the Burning Steppes demon. If you do this Quest post BC. the winterspring Demon you do not have to even Talk to him, Just Stand on the rocks at 58,20 Wait for him with Cheetah on, and the Area clear, as you see him get close(max range) just hit Serpent Sting and Start your run, Strafe shooting as you go, 1 rank 1 arcane shot at the end of the cooldown. hes easiest this way, and you can still loot the head of the demon.

Burning Steppes demon has changed drastically from the way it once was. you can no longer use Scorpid sting, it has no effect on him anymore. they changed the way the Sting works, this will be an Endurance fight for any hunter. as you will burn Alot of mana laying traps and trying to keep him away, I suggest MM for Scattershot, and Aimed shot.

All i did was this, speak with him to start the fight back away from him and lay a trap(freeze), doing the fight along the road is easiest get to max range, wait till you have about 12-14s on the trap cool down then Aimed shot him, use conccusive to slow/Stop him when your trap is up drop another freeze, rinse and repeat. it took me about 8 attempts this way and 2 unstable mana potions but i managed to do it. -- Dor

I just ran around a corner in the Burning Steppes on my way to The Altar of Storms and this demon one shotted me for 32234 hp! I was dead before I even saw him. There was a dead hunter nearby and we were joined by two more corpses before he despawned. His name was Klinfran the crazed.
I will know to be more careful around there from now on.

this quest takes so long first downing the 9th boss im molten core thene kill 4 demon and some times wait ing for them because other hunter already killed it
and killing the demons is not easy then also you have to down onixya and wait for the 20%drop rate on the thingy but after doing this quest it was worth it fore my bow&stave that kick ass :):):):):):):):):):)):)::)):):):)::):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):

Some items that can help are poached sunscale salmon Poached Sunscale Salmon and Nightfin Soup Nightfin Soup These are awesome items to help replenish health and mana a little bit.

I finished this last week and the above items greatly assisted in the process. Also, if you're not proficient at the jumpshot and kiting...practice practice practice. The jumpshot is invaluable in these fights, especially in Winterspring.

To get the quest, you need to get to Majordomo in Molten Core. Runes are no longer required, but you do have to kill all the bosses first in order to make MD appear. The leaf will drop about 1/3 of the time, starting a rather vague quest. Hop to Felwood - go north to the "dead" ancient trees and wait for the spirits to pop up. You'll get this quest that you must solo. You can bring friends (they must be really bored), but NOTHING can be on the aggro list but yourself. This means no pet! No heals from outside sources either.

Snakes go on the aggro list, so don't even bother with a Snake Trap. You shouldn't need it, but I wanted to test it out. Cost me 15 minutes for respawn. Oops!

Anyway, if you're having issues finding the mobs, use track demons. I used the following order, since it seemed the fastest. Grab a book, though; you'll be doing a lot of flying. Here are vague descriptions.

1. Winterspring - Tauren north west of Everlook.
2. Silithus - Gnome wanders near AQ and the southern Twilight Cultist camp
3. Un'Goro - Troll with a pet - wanders mid-west to south in the crater
4. Searing Gorge - Far west, south

All move around, but none are really hard to find. Once you have all the heads, go back and turn the quest in. You'll be able to get the other two quests afterwards - one leads to the 18 slot quiver, which you certainly don't need anymore, and the second leads to the string you need to make Rhok. Make sure your Mature Black Sinew is in your bag already to save time - you can get that from Ony and it drops often.

People have done it. All but the one in Silithus has been beaten without exploiting. All the demons have a weakness to one of your abilities.

The only one that hasn't been beaten correctly casts a fear spell which deals around 800 damage each time. The demon sometimes spams it. People have beaten this demon by having a rogue stun it and having several mages/hunter fire all at once, killing it within seconds. Stunning it means it won't respawn until it gets out of stun. Also, Warlocks can supposedly control it, weaken it via nearby enemies, and then have the hunter go at it, but I'm not sure about this.

Ok, I didn't understand it. Alone means without pet and without the help of other players? How should a hunter, a weakling in close-combat fight without a tank against a lvl 60 elite?

edit: ok, I've read it in another forum. No pets and no other players, although you can be in a party and the others can be there, and you can have the aura from paladins, but nothing else.

My problem is: I don't read too many in forums about WoW, so... what is tranqshot? Scorpid sting or what?

Easy, solo'ed it (NO BEAR) had to kill some lvl 1 koblots in elwyn forest. no biggie.

I've searched for 2hours around the little lake with the toxic hours but I haven't seen him, are there any prereqs ? Can someone tell me what I must do in order to see him? (I'm a lv 60 troll hunter).

my rogue found simon while wandering through the crater, I'd never seen her before so went for a closer look. BAM 8778 damage from "fools plight"

Has anyone done this? If so, what tactics did you use. I can understand kiting the 3 demons without pets, but Simone looks much more difficult.

From what I understand from a hunter in my guild, the 9th boss of MC, majordomo, drops the starter for this. Then you go see this guy, or maybe there are steps in between.

To complete this quest, you need to kill 4 different demons. Then you loot the head and turn in the quest. The demons will own the living !@#$ out of any other class then hunters, with crits seen going up to 250k. Then all have about 20k health, and have several strength en weakenesses. Klinfram, for example, got as strengths his fast speed (80% runing speed), his melee hits (600-700), and his frenzy every 20 seconds. (melee hits up to 2k). His weakness is Scorpid Sting. With Scorpid Sting on him, he will only deal 1 dmg in melee, and Scorpid Sting removes his frenzy.

All of those demons will despawn if:
- More then one person is attacking it, no matter if it's a Hunter or not.
- The player he got aggro on receives a heal from someone else.
- The player he got aggro on receives a buff from someone else.
- The player he got aggro on looses a buff done by someone else due to it's time limit.
- 15 minutes after he is being spawned.

Safest is to ungroup, to avoid getting hid by aura's and thus despawning the demon. Another options is forming a raid group, and put the Hunter who is doing the quest in it's own group. What you can do to make it easier is duel with people who cast (de)buffs on you, for example a Warlock with Curse of Recklesness against fear. Another options is having a Hunter on Feign Death while one of his Aspects is on.

Before patch 1.11, the respawntimer on those demons was 3 hours. After 1.11 this is certainly shorter, althou I do not know how long. Note that on a rare occasion you can't loot any head form the demon, and contacting a GM does not seem to work.

it aint just a quest you start doing, it takes some time money and preperations

If you find that on any of the demons, you are having troubles, you CAN indeed get someone else to do it for you.

Simply get a better geared hunter in your group, put it on FFA, spawn the demon, watch them pwn it, then loot the head.

If there is more then one hunter with the quest grouped together and the designted hunter attempts and completes the demon kill (knowing that there's four of them), would the other hunters in the party be able to loot the corpse and get credit for the kill?

Has anyone attempted this?

I know what youre thinking, its 2021, u dont have time to read thru walls of texts in order to find the easiest and cheapest way to do this quest

I did all of em without any consumables or warlock help except for superior mana potion
No buffs either except for Trueshot aura and Aspect of the hawk/cheetah

Kite him towards the road so you have a clear path. Be Max range so u dont get the debuff, use Aspect of the Cheetah and keep Serpent Sting up all times then just throw Arcane shots and auto shots
Its basicaly just a RNG fight about getting debuffed or not
