"This" - the whole ravasaur mystery - was THE hot-topic back in Vanilla-WoW for a long period. I'm suprised how many people have simply lost any recollection of the huge petition threads, or the few hilarious "theory-threads" that spawned left and right caused lack of official responses :)

There where two NPC's; Arin'Sor and Mor'Vek who resided within Un'Goro that were part of the horde-aligned faction <Ravasour Trainers>
As of Patch 2.0, they went missing without a trace
Somewhere inbetween the thousands of threads dedicated to these trainers, I believe blizzard admitted its original intent.

The most plausible rumour was that blizzard "disabled" the quests in fear of Un'Goro being flooded end-game players while it was considered a leveling-zone. Alliance farms for 'their' special mount in Winterspring, which was an end-game zone anyway.

What I remembered/could dig up from archives :)

After grinding the wintersaber on two separate toons (one pre 1.1), I am certainly looking forward to camping this NPC.

No horde on my server will be the first world wide to earn this mount.

And who knows, maybe they will implement the mount as a drop from the NPC... based on the number of times the wintersaber quest giver was killed, people certainly thought he would drop that mount.

Nothing to see here folks. Just a classic Alliance #$%^&*! who feels that Horde shouldn't get their chance at an OMGWTFPAININASSGRIND mount.

Also. Just because maybe one or two Hordies killed your "ub3r prec1ous" quest-giver, you feel the need to turn around and make other people, who probably had no frickin' clue about you in the first place, suffer for it?

I'm currently doing this on PTR. In the PTR the quest is only get splashed 20 times, I believe it will be changed to 2000 though when it goes live. I'd say it took me 7-10 mins to get splashed 20 times. Just to verify, it is a getting beat on quest, I pulled three and turned my back to let um hit me. Once you finish this quest you will be given another that says to go find 4 ravager eggs, took about 30 seconds you just go to piles of their eggs and pick um up, don't know if it will remain 4 when it goes live. Turn that in and you get a cute little ravasaur companion which can be summoned, and you get another quest that requires you to obtain 20 baby teeth, 20 ragged leather, and 20 runecloth. Talk to your little cutie and he'll give you a daily quest to feed him 10 pieces of bug meet, which is obtained in south Un'goro. I'm guessing that you will get different dailies to feed him different kinds of food each day. Complete that daily and you get 1 baby tooth. Making it require at least 20 days to obtain this mount, have fun. I'll do this on another toon to test how long it takes to get splashed 20 times and get a specific time back soon.

It seems that you only get splashed if you are HITTING the revasaurs. Best thing to do is to unequip your weapon and beat on em with your fists while AFK

Couldn't do this at 80. Even unarmed they die too fast. Can't imagine this going live. Everyone fighting for 20 spawns...

You receive the debuff from these guys, which in turn counts toward your quest. It seems to be random, but I don't know if it was just me, but I seemed to have a higher chance of receiving the DoT when I cured the poison. Good luck to all of those who are grinding their way to this mount!

Go naked, and bring the lowest possible DPS weapon you can find. As a hunter, with unarmed of about 290, I hit for 440 (900 crit) unarmed with my gear on, 100/200 without. Maybe something like one of the Argent tournament lances with their 0.7 DPS...

Be prepared to be very annoyed, with everyone trying to do this quest on an extremely limited number of spawns that die very quickly.

It is possible to get multiple splashes from one raptor, but they tend to die too fast to get more. Mages may have an easier time, being able to sheep-heal theirs.

mages dont even need to sheep heal... there unarmed crits for like 6... my skill in unamred is maxed and you dont even THINK about hitting 7 or higher

if you do want to not wait for spawns you could sheep heal... but there's no point because most people kill them after 1 or 2 poisons and they spawn back really quick... so imma guess mages or priests will get this easiest

Just some things I did when I did this on my mage on the PTR to get this done fast;

If the raptor is dying and you for some reason haven't got all your poisons (this is unlikely, you only hit for like 6-12 and that's with maxed out Unarmed skill which is unlikely for a Mage on the live realms so you probably won't hit the raptors anyway) just Polymorph it, let it get to full and start the routine over.

Took approximately 10 minutes to get all the poisons but this was on the PTR with nobody else in the zone. So expect it to take a lot longer with a lot of players running around also trying to complete this quest - some of them might kill "your" raptor because they're frustrated and just want another one to respawn.

The followup, Venomhide Eggs, seems to be less frustrating but might also be a pain on the live servers where probably everybody will be doing these quests the first days since in this quest you have to pick up 4 eggs in the area - was smooth and easy on the PTR where no one else was in the zone but on live, well, yeah... The eggs are located in the same nest you have to go to in the quest The Scent of Lar'korwi.

NB: On the PTR I only had to get poisoned 20 times and that took approximately 10 minutes. If Blizzard stick to 255 if will take pretty much ages, if they go with 2000 it's just insane. Anyway, mages can still do it this way since you can go afk and not worry about dying.

https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=10515 may be the ideal weapon for this. The torch counts as a melee weapon, but anything hit by it takes 0 damage. It is not any class of weapon, so there is no weapon skill to alter it, and as long as you're auto attacking you'll remain in combat and the enemy will continue to attack you. I say "may" because you may have to actually deal damage in order to receive the poison debuff. I haven't had a chance to try it, but I will once I have an opportunity.

If this weapon does work for this, be sure to be mindful of your health. Even at 80 you'll take damage, and unless you have a way to heal you'll need to stop eventually. You'll also be taking durability damage, so removing your armor may not be a bad idea.

Edit: Just finished some initial testing with the torch. I tried 5 different Venomhide Raptors for 5 minutes each and attacking with nothing but the torch. I received the debuff 0 times. This does not necessarily mean it doesn't work, but it doesn't look good. As I explained here, I haven't had the best of luck with regular weapons. All of my testing has been done on Live Servers so far. I'll be attempting more tests on the PTR tonight.

Edit 2: After some PTR testing, I have come to the conclusion that the Torch is a horrible method for this. I tried the same tests as before, 5 raptors with 5 minutes each, and received 0 applications of the poison. As comparison, as an unarmed warlock I completed all 20 applications on a single raptor in 6 minutes 34 seconds, and a total of 10 minutes to kill the creature. My guess is that it does indeed require you to actually deal damage in order to receive the debuff. So find a way to deal low damage, and use it, such as an Argent Lance or a Spare Hand. Not the Torch.

3.2 is live today and the first thing I did was go try out this quest.

1. group up. you can get credit for the venom stacks from far-ish away when your other party members get it on them. This means if someone is attacking one, ask for an invite instead of being a prick and killing it for them.
2. you must hit the venomhide ravasaur. turning your back to them and letting them hit you does not work.
3. kill other ravasaurs if you don't see the venomhides. they share spawn points.
4. go naked. slap fight the ravasaurs so they die slower.
5. bring a mage. poly = not having to fight others for spawns.

I did this today pretty simply. I disarmed my weapons, and punched a few venomhides not enough to kill any of them, just enough to make them mad at me, and just stood there not attacking, letting them try to hit me. about 10 minutes later I had all 20 things I needed and hadn't killed a single venomhide.

you might have to kill a group, heal up and repeat if you get too low on health, but it works like a charm :)

Some people believed that even though it was 20 on the PTR, it'd still be 2000 on live, but luckily it is still 20 on live. This officially makes it a LOT easier than the Wintersaber grind (currently doing both on 2 characters)

You have to hit them and be hitted by them to gain poison. I strongly suggest being in party with someone because if member does get the stack, it will be accounted for you too.

Just found this out and thought i would share.

For players lvl70+ you can go to Icemist Village in Dragonblight. The spider creatures there will also use a poison attack that will count toward this quest, and it goes buy much faster. Got all 20 in less than 5min.

Did this yesterday, the best thing to do I found is to go unarmed and take off all your armor, then proceed to punch the dinosaurs to death. Also, strangely enough when you group, everyone in the group gets credit whenever one person gets poisoned.

In short, expect to see large groups of naked horde players punching out venomous dinosaurs in Un'Goro in the near future.

It should be noted that on 3.2 live this is now 20 applications of poison, not 2000. I stripped naked and bareknuckled about 6 or so Venemous Ravasaurs and finished it easily.

Realy easy as a prot warrior.
Strip yourself but let your shield,taunt a ravasaur and let the damage shield do the job.
If you give them your back,you wont be parrying nor evade the atacs

I found this pretty easy on my level 60 priest. For the first quest I just equipped my skinning knife and auto-attacked it, healing myself when it was needed. I only did about 20% damage to the one that I was attacking and managed to get 20 applications of poison. I noticed I was resisting the poison quite often so I can imagine it would be harder for a level 80 to do it, because they'll resist the poison more often.

Another thing is that you seem to have to hit the ravasaur to be poisoned so its a good idea to bring a weapon like a skinning knife that doesn't train any skill. I hardly missed when I was attacking and was hitting the ravasaur for 3 damage, however my friend who was a level 69 druid took much longer because he used his bare hands and ended up just training his unarmed skilled on them until he was high enough to hit them. Then he started to become poisoned very quickly.

Also I read this page before doing the quest and was under the impression that you had to do this quest 20 times, but you only have to do this once.

This might help any 80 or high lvl hunters doing this quest. Very easy. Beast tracking til you find a venomhide. Once you have one take off ***ALL*** your gear and weapons. Put on aspect of the monkey. Hit the venomhide since you can only get poisoned by hitting them. When they finally are about to die (don't push your luck past 15%) feign death. They're back at full health rinse and repeat. I got my quest off of just one venomhide.

For some reason they thought that un'goro was a leveling zone and they didnt want hundreds of end game players flooded there so they lowered it to 20 times i did it on a lvl 53 warrior a healer and a paladin and we got all 20 on both mobs

When I was doing this quest on my 80 hunter, I realised how fustrating it was to try and do this. Although I did find a trick that can help me out if there is only 1 ravasaur up, and im sure can help many other hunters out. Obviously you have to take off your weapons *and armor* and attack them, but feign death when the mob is nearly dead which will reset it's health, allowing you to attack again. Just keep that sequence up and the quest should be done in no time.

Clearing some quick confusion for those who don't know:
It involves getting 20 splashes of venom on you, received while beating on Venomhide Ravasaurs in melee. Anything with ridiculously low DPS helps, mages/locks/priests kind of have it easy, as we're not really known for melee damage anyway. (Then again, as seen below, I'm not an 80...this could differ.) The reward for completing it is something like 5.5g, and leads to the second quest Venomhide Eggs.

My experience with this quest last night, as a 60 Priest:

The poison splashes are a 30 second debuff with 10 ticks, relatively low damage easily countered by a Renew or a similar HoT. It appears not to stack, not sure about refreshing...the chance of receiving the DoT was too low to even see if there is a refresh.
Each time you get poisoned, it counts as a splash for the quest. No, you don't need to do the quest 20 times, nor do you have to run back to the trainer for every splash, etc. Its like a gathering quest: get a splash, let it expire, try to get it again, rinse repeat 19 more times, quest complete.
As the tooltip above says, when you receive the debuff, you get a 5 minute buff to your equipped weapon of chance-on-hit poisoning to your target, lasting either said 5 minutes or for 15 charges. The 5 minute timer on it refreshes with every consequent poison splash you receive from a Ravasaur. Obviously, the Ravasaurs are immune to their own poison.
It seems that the poison splashes don't occur with a shield on (Power Word: Shield and the like). I may be wrong, but through the durations of my shields, those splashes never occurred.
Also seems faster to receive the poison splash when you change Ravasaurs. Basically: find a Venomhide Ravasaur, whack it with your melee weapon, stop attacking and let it wail on you until you receive a poison splash, kill it, find a new one, rinse, repeat. I say this only because finding one and letting it hit you for forever, after about 10 minutes, I still had only received a single splash. This might be different for someone else, this was just my personal experience with it! People are reporting having one whack away at you for a while nets all 20 splashes required, anyway.

All in all, this first part took about 20 minutes, wasn't too bad. They respawn fast enough for 20 people running around, sometimes in groups. Just beware the random Ironhide Devilsaur patrolling through the area - they hurt! The next two parts of the quest should take all of 5 minutes.

Just thought I'd post these tips, didn't see them before.

Hit them with your bare fists; it's not worth the trouble of grabbing something weaker unless you have it already.

If you're a hybrid-healer class and have a healing set, put it on. This lets you fight with base strength (so you don't kill fast) without killing your armor. As a paladin, I put on a healing set and hit the venomhides for less than 200 non-crit, letting me get off a lot of hits before the raptors got low.

If the venomhides are far and few between (lots of people doing the quest), reset the raptors, don't kill them. Once the raptor is within a hit of dying, untarget them and turn away so you won't kill them. Then strafe away. As soon as the raptor resets, mount and follow it back. This should let you hit the raptor just as its health refills ^.^.

Using these tricks, I got the quest done in about 10 minutes. Good luck and enjoy your ravasaur :D!

If the venomhides are rare, KILL THE REST OF THE RAVASAURS. They all share the same spawn table, so if you kill the other types, you get more venomhides spawning.

When you are fighting the raptors you will get a Buff at the same time as the toxin. It's a 5 minute duration weapon buff like rogue poison. If you don't notice it or ignore it it will prevent you from being poisoned again for 5 minutes. This will make your completeing this quest super long. 6 poisons in I noticed this.

the buff is however, right clickable. This allowed me to get nearly 3 poisons from the remaining raptors finishing the quest very quickly.

I found out the greatest thing doing this quest as a hunter. FEIGN DEATH! If you find a Venomhide Ravasaur (and yes this is the ONLY one that will give you the poison you need) you have to take off all your gear (trinkets and all) put on the lowest dps weapon around and just start hitting it. Which is also the only way to get the poison (turning your back on it will not give it to you). You can Feign Death when the Venomhide Ravasaur is low and then the the mob goes back to full health. So it is entirely possible to keep this strategy up as long as you remember to Feign before the mob dies. Its so much easier to do this then to keep finding new ones to kill! Happy hunting!

The minimum level for this quest is NOT 1. So far I've tried to pick this up with my rogue at level 45 and 46, both times the NPC has a silver ! above his head. I'm guessing the required level for this quest (and hopefully the whole chain) is 47. Anyone have a 47 horde to confirm?

Just finished this quest on my 80 Rogue (Unarmed 400). Stripped naked and beat them unarmed. Killed 5 before I got poisioned 20 times (about 15 min). Not too bad really. I spent about as much time looking for a new one to kill as fighting. Just watch out for wandering mobs.

There is currently a bug(?) which allows you to complete this quest ridiculously fast.
The thing is to go to Icemist Village in Dragonblight and kill the Anub'ar Slayers. They apply the same poison to you and therefore gives credit for this quest. And the area is crowded with those mobs so the quest will only take 5 minutes if done there.

Did this today on my 50 paladin with a 50 rogue.We were grouped and just pulled one or two each and left it on autoattack.We killed around about 12-15 although i wasn't counting.Took about 20 minutes i reckon.(The credit for the blood spatters are shared in a group ) Not nearly as monotonous as i was expecting.The next quest is ridiculously easy getting 4 eggs, but the follow up was the hardest.Getting 20 meats to feed the little bugger (Ok cute little bugger).We killed any thing that moved (Pterrodax,Diemetradons as well as the elite Dinos) and every single one dropped the meat required. Getting the mats and gold for the rest of the quest is not really that tough in my opinion.The fact that it will take 20 days is the hardest part of it all.But sometimes things are worth waiting for :)

EZ as EZ can be... I did this on my level 80 rogue with ONE Ravasaur.

Step 1: Find a Ravasaur
Step 2: Get Naked (if your toon is higher level so as to allow longer melee)
Step 3: Hand to hand it until it or you are almost dead
Step 4: Break melee any way your toon can
Step 5: Heal
Step 6: Repeat Steps 1 through 5 until you have 20 poisonings

Toxic Tolerance leads to the quest Venomhide Eggs

Toxic Tolerance is a very annoying quest because you have to be doing damage to the Venomhide Ravasuare for it to be able to bleed on you. The higher level you are the harder of a time you will have with this quest.

Once you do compelte the Toxic Tolerance quest you will then continue o to Venomhide Eggs

Venomhide Eggs is a very easy quest. Just got to the egg piles that you went to for the Lar'korwi quest The Scent of Lar'korwi

Once you are done that you will receive the quest They Grow Up So Fast. This quest gives you a non combot pet that takes up bag space that you summon that will give you a daily quest. Completeing the daily quest will give you a venomhide baby tooth.

To complete They Grow Up So Fast you will need the following

Venomhide Baby Tooth x20
Runecloth x20
Rugged Leather x20
Gold x80

and then presto you have yourself a Venomhide Ravasaur Mount

You only need 1 raptor to do this- As others stated, strip and box 'em naked but just take him down to about 10% hp, stop attacking then run away. He'll drop combat and reset to 100%. Eat some food and start over! Got all my poisons in just a few minutes off one raptor since they can be annoying to find.

Get naked+equip argent tourny lance=3 poisons per kill (If your a class that can cleanse poisons do so immediately when you get poisoned=more poison applications per fight i had at least 6+ every fight as a paladin)

Very easy for a hunter.

Just let your pet spam "Cower" and some other melee focus dump skill. This way you'll be able to hold the aggro and your pet will cause fast melee attacks to trigger the poison.

Enhancement shamans can find this quest is a real pain in the neck, due to maximized unarmed skill. Even if you get naked, you will kill ravasaurs in no time, so this can be quite frustrating. There is a way to ease your pain though.

1-) Spam the Rank 1 Lightning Bolt. It has no cooldown whatsoever and low mana cost and hits really trivial (around 20-25).

2-) Even though it has low mana cost, you'll still go out of mana. If you use Shamanistic Rage, you have to punch the mob in the face and you will eventually kill it again even before your mana fills to full. Instead of it, along with two Venomhide Ravasaurs also pull one or two (one is ideal due to spell casting pushback created by three mobs hitting you at the same time) other kind of raptors in the area (Ravasaur Hunter for example). When you are out of mana, pop Shamanistic Rage and punch the other mob in the face to get your mana back. When you are done with it, punch the first Ravasaur to death to refill your mana to full. After it's dead, continue spamming LB to the second Venomhide Ravasaur. You may not punch the first Venomhide to death if you are lucky with the SR and got most of your mana back.

3-) Always put Mana Spring Totem down. It'll help a bit to regenerate some mana in fight.

4-) When you are out of mana again, kill the ravasaur, drink to full, rinse and repeat.

Edit: When I wrote this, I thought this was a daily quest and it was a real pain to do this every day. But I see it's a one-time quest, but still you can use this tactic to speed up the process.

I don't know if you guys are aware but you don't actually have to melee to get the poison. As an Enhance Shaman even unarmed I killed these really quickly, so I simply downranked my earthshock and did ~20 dmg. Sure, you have to wait 6 seconds between each attack but it beats running around looking for other mobs. Also, remember to have water shield on and use cleansing totem and this is a breeze. Perhaps not as fast as for mages or priests but I got it with only one raptor.

For those who are willing to wait the speed at which this and the frostsaber quest will be able to be done once the 3rd exp comes out will help do to flying mounts. Just a thought.

Get Nacked, all gear off, no Attackpower or anything that makes u hit harded

Either u use or going umarmed, i managed this way geting all 20 toxic from max 6 ravasauris, took me less than 10 min.

As a lvl 80 warlock this is what I did:

1) unequip weapon
2) attack ravasaur barehanded
3) tabbed out and did something else
4) tabbed back in game after 10 minutes

When I checked my guy I was at 20% health, ravasaur was at 80% health, unarmed skill level went from 1 to 380, and quest was completed LOL too easy!

I had better luck taking off all my armor, trinkets, anything that boosted attack power and defense, and just punched them. I noticed that when attacking them, you had a better chance of getting poisoned. By removing any attack-boosting items, I could hit them more times. Got the quest done in around 15 minutes. :)

As 80 warrior i did it like this:

1) unequip weapons and gear
2) attack ravasaur
3) attack them till they are around 10%
4) flee and let them go evade so they restore health
5) repeat

Was doing this at a place where 2 venomhides were close to each other

Melee HIT the quest mobs {Venomhide Ravasaur} in order to have a chance to trigger being "... splashed with poisonous blood". You can try melee HITing the other Ravasaurs in the area, but the quest is specific in saying that you "Attack Venomhide Ravasaurs for a chance to be poisoned.".

NOTE: I completed this quest on two other characters and found that killing all of the Ravasaurs in the area where the quest mob spawns increased my chances of seeing a quest mob. Be careful how far you go with this action, since some of the other Ravasaurs are quest mobs for other mobs.

Remove your main-hand and off-hand items to force your character to use it's BARE hands and make each fight as long as possible. This will maximize your chances of being "... splashed with poisonous blood" because you will spend less time starting a new fight with a new quest mob. You can try fighting more than one quest mob at a time, but unless you are able to melee HIT multiple quest mobs at one time, this would seem to be a useless activity that will only annoy anyone else doing the quest at the same time.

You can try taking off your character's armor in an attempt to further reduce the damage done while melee HITing the quest mobs with BARE hands. This may, or may not work, depending on your class,armor, enchants, etc. I did not.

Don't forget to put any pets or minions your character might have on passive, or dismiss them, or they will almost certainly prevent your character being "... splashed with poisonous blood".

My character had to beat four quest mobs to death. He doesn't do much damage bare-handed, but he was a level 80 warlock beating on a level 5x Ravasaur.

NOTE: I did not say this before, so I will add that my post is a combination of my experience and a gleaning of all previous posts into one, compact source of information.

Not a hard quest, by any means. Just an annoying one.

Was grinding this area on an alt and thought I hadn't seen it before so came to check. A few things I can add....

I did get some venoms on killing the mob, but that could be just because I hit it. Hitting it with magic can proc the poison, but I had best success with my priest's dagger (more procs on hitting the raptor).

Did this quest at the same time as Bone-Bladed Weapons and The Scent of Lar'korwi.

Rewards 8360 experience at Lv51 (quest was yellow).

Tested on 3.2 on live.

As a mage I never use melee attacks, so thank goodness someone pointed out that this is the ONLY way to infect yourself with poison. If you want to make the process quicker use the Berzerking attack if you have it available.

If you're like me and you're lvl 80, you might have a problem with, "Oh CRAP, i keep killing them in 3 or 4 hits even when i'm unarmed!" I found the best thing to do if you're lvl 80 (or in the 70s) is to take off all your gear and the attack the mobs, you shouldn't do very much damage and you should be able to get the 20 splashes really quickly. If that doesn't work, you can also try letting them kill you and getting res sickness.

This quest is very simple.

If you are a high level clothie, melee the raptors.
If you are more melee based, used your lowest rank spells.

Slowly killing them can get them to bleed on you 3-4 times.

Took me about 5 minutes to complete.

As a lvl 80 mage, I simply unequipped my weapon and started hitting with bare hands (with everything else still on). Got poisoned 9 times by the 1st ravasaur and 11 with the second one, sometimes even 3 poisons in a row. Just stay there and enjoy the landscape, the plants and the big angry lizard trying to harm you. Once completed the quest, blast the lizard with the flick of an eyebrow and go get the next quest in the chain. =)

I found that this quest is rather easy to complete if you have the Horde Lance or Argent Lance to attack the Venomhide Ravasaurs with. You only do like 10-30 damage with each hit and you don't need any weapon skill to be able to hit them.

80 hunter here and found that going naked and hitting them unarmed was the best.
I dunno if this is a trick but it worked for me:
pet on passive- hit till splashed, when splashed turn pet on defensive--when pet has aggro (should be in one hit) put on passive again-- I got 3 splashed per raptor that way. Dunno if i just got lucky or what

I took my level 80 warlock to Un'goro for this one - I found the NPC at the traditional ground entrance to Un'goro, on the east. The quest took maybe 10 minutes: I found a Venomhide Raptor, un-equipped my weapons, and set myself on autoattack as I went to do the dishes. Leveled my unarmed from 0 to 382 or so. Easy stuff.

I'm not sure if there's a limit on how many splashes they give you. I got 2-4 out of each of them before they eventually died, then I'd pull another group.

I just made a discovery to help druids and whomever else could use this information! I hit the venomhides until they spit the venom, then hit them with moonfire to hurry the kill process. I got splashed again! I tried just using moonfire and no venom. After many tests I've found that if you hit them barehanded until they splash venom and then hit them with moonfire you can get multiple splashes off of one mob. I got 5 splashes off one venomhide! Hope this helps speed the process some!

started this as i level um, 54 i think, undead 'lock with a v w. at this level and with only cloth armor no worries about not getting hit. you can use sacrifice to keep from getting killed while still getting splashed but keep your pet on passive. also make dang sure it's a venomhide, they're the brownish ones. not sure if it's a carbonite thing but all raptors are tagged. spent over an hour killing everything in sight without a single splash before i finally found the real thing. after that it was easy unless i got mobbed by more than three. i'm the queen of weird wow glitches tho, when i tried to return to the quest-giver, he'd vanished. didn't come back for about a week. i deeply apologize if my weirdness kept anyone else from turning in the quest during this time, lol!

What you need to do is agro the black ravasaurs. Casters use rank 1 spells. They'll start spitting on you which they need to do 20 times. The poison debuff lasts 30 seconds but can be dispelled.

It took me about 5 minutes and i was a shaman using lightning bolt on 3 of them ( RANK 1)

HOW TO DO THE QUEST:

Go to about 68.0 , 59.0. There look for this NPC : Venomhide Ravasaur.
Start fighting with them and ocasionally they " spit " poison on you. The objectiv is to get " spit " by poison 20 times... it was pretty hard to figure it out. easyer if you are a class that has a spell that removes poison so you will have a chance to be spit a few times by one mob. Hope that helps out.

i found that at 80 (im a hunter) u can still pretty easily get venomized, just takes slightly longer.
what vi do is to get a very bad sword, i used Blackblade of Shahram, and hit the ravasaur, ya, thats it, just make sure its a very sucky sword, 9/10 times hell spray u before he dies. hope this helps

For shamans just strip nude and throw down healing stream totem and beat on the raptors. The totem will heal you just enough to sit and beat on a raptor for several minutes. Should only need 2-3 raptors to get this daily done. Also consider laying down windfury totem to increase melee haste!

Here's what I figured out:

- The poison is a COUNTER-ATTACK, meaning you can't just stand there and get hit, you have to damage it.
- They were made to be punching bags, BEST opportunity to level up Unarmed.
- At around 215 skill you'll land most hits and won't hit hard at all. Also from 215 skill, I was getting poisoned about 5 times a kill, killing it very slowly with punches to their jaws.

Conclusion, remove your weapon, any damage shield, and punch away... it is the BEST and FASTEST way of doing this. Plus you're leveling unarmed to a less boring skill level for once you feel like getting the achievement.

Super easy for a mage. Just use rank 1 molten armour, put up ice barrier if you have it, unequip your weapons and run around punching each one just once. Then just sit there with your back turned. The molten armour damage will cause the splashes in short order, and polymorph the raptors as they get low in health to heal them back up!

Dismiss your pet, take off your weapons, go unarmed. FInd yourself a nice Venomhide Ravasaur (about 62,53). Kite him in a quiet place. Beat the crap out of him until he poisons you. Stop autoatack and let him kick your ass for the next 25 sec. (until debuff is gone). Beat him up a little more, until he poisons you again. If he is about to die (or you....) feign death. It is possible to be poisoned multiple times by the same ravasaur. Im a pally and I used Cleanse and got poisoned 3 times by the same Ravasaur.

Confirmed, I just killed another Venomhide Ravasaur and got poisoned 4 times using Cleanse every time after getting poisoned. Hope that helps people to finish faster.

I came up with a system on my hunter.

I'm leveling a Shaman with a good friend of mine, who is leveling a Druid. We both hit lvl 50 and went to Un'goro Crater, where we picked up this quest. I allready did it with my Druid and had a hard time getting poisoned 20 times. So I decided to give the 'underwear-and-skinning-knife-trick' a shot. I fought a Venomhide, while my friend was healing me, from a small distance.

The 'underwear-and-skinning-knife-trick' worked really well. I got 20 times poisoned by 2 venomhide within 5 minutes, or so.

But here's the funny thing. Every time I got poisoned, my friend got too. By the time I hit 20, we both completed the quest!

As a sidenote to all of these guides at how to do this at level 80... If you're actually the right level to do this quest, it goes by in a blur. Me and my friend (rogue and boomkin druid, respectively) did this quest by only killing three raptors, we were both level 48. Just watch closely for other raptors that might be spawning nearby, the Venomhides like to stay in the center of the nesting area and it doesn't take much to accidentally get three more raptors on you.

I'm unsure if anyone has clarified this yet, but...you must actually do damage to the raptor in order for you to trigger his poison. Just hitting him unarmed isn't enough. I started this at 0/400 unarmed skill and I couldn't figure out why I wasn't getting poisoned. Then I noticed that when I finally got unarmed high enough to do some kind of damage he poisoned me.

I don't know why anyone hasn't mentioned this, but you don't have to be poisoned 2,000 times. You only have to be poisoned 20 times. Once you turn in the quest, he gives you the next one and you have to collect 4 eggs from the nests around the marshlands in Un'Goro Crater. When you return the eggs to him, he gives you one of them back, which has hatched. It's a tiny raptor that you call (like the orphan quests we get once a year). The raptor gives you a daily quest asking for something different from either Tanaris, Un'Goro Crater, or Silithus. Once you complete and turn in the quest, the raptor gives you one of its baby teeth.

Doing this, it'll take a minimum of 20 days to get your raptor mount.

Personally, I much prefer this method of getting the mount than what I had to do for the Winterspring Frostsaber!

Best way to get splashed with blood

1. Be Close To level 80
2. Take off all ur armor and weapon's, health regen armor works nice.
3. find a certain venomhide raptor, then start attacking it it should take like 20 hits and ur bound to get hit by one
4. After its low, you run away and reset it and then repeat

As a level 49 Warlock I was having a few too many difficulties trying to complete this quest. Seeing as I wasn't level 80, these things just tore through my health. I figured out a method that works, however. It probably isn't as efficient as doing the quest naked at level 80 with a skinning knife in hand, but it gets the job done if you don't feel like waiting until you get to 80 plus another 20 days.

Make sure you VW is out and on passive. Equip a skinning knife. Pull the Venomhide and attack with the skinning knife. Sacrifice your VW and keep attacking with the skinning knife, you'll get poisoned.The Venomhide shouldn't tear through your shield, but it will wear off after 30 seconds and you will be unprotected for 30 seconds. Shield again when Sacrifice comes back up.

This technique works exceptionally well when you have Soul Link and Siphon Life, like I do. I'd cast Corruption once or twice to heal myself and keep my health up.

With this technique I was able to get 3-4 poison debuffs per Venomhide.

I hope this helps someone.

By the by, you don't have to wait for the poison to go away for it to count again towards your quest.

Edit: I just realized I'm pretty silly because you could use your VW's taunts and still keep him on passive. I'm used to him not holding aggro since I usually nuke things to death, but since you are only doing 3-9 damage per swing with a skinning knife you should be fine. So, moral of the story, kiddies, is keep your VW out on passive and use his taunts/sacrifice when necessary and keep attacking with that skinning knife. You should have the quest done in no time.

I JUST now did this on my druid, trying for the loremaster achievement. People need to not make this harder than it is. Empty your hands and just punch them until they get down to about 300 HP then RUN AWAY, rinse, repeat. When they leash, they heal to 100%. Your fists never get the weapon buff and you NEVER GO IMMUNE TO THE POISON. Woot! Finished it in about 15 minutes off one mob. I went from zero weapon skill to 350 by the time I was done as well :)

Many high levels have problems with this quest because thier damage output is too high. There are afew methods that can help.

-Use low level wepons and simply auto-attack
-Use the argent lance.
-Use lowlevel instant attack skills.

It will take some time, however it will only take 1or 2 raptors depending on your luck. It is easier to do this quest with some sort of self healing.

Method:

Unequipt all weapons so your left with your fists, pull 2-3 venomhides, mana shield and punch them.

I'm having a lot of trouble with this quest. I started it one day, managed to get 10 splashes. But coming back to it today, I'm not getting any. I've gone unequipped and just hit them for 20 minutes and still nothing. Anyone else having this problem?

I'm just doing this quest on my Lv48 Hunter and it seems very easy. Look for a save place near the raptors and keep pulling the same Venomhide Ravasaur over and over again. As soon as you get splashed (or your health runs low), Feign Death, eat until the poison is gone and repeat. For longer survival, use Aspect of the Monkey. And remember to FD in time. Don't wait till your life bar reaches 3% or something, FD can always be resisted.

I also noticed that ranged attacks made by you can also trigger the poison!

You only need to get poisoned 20 times now.

Like Mor'vek says you'd need to be splashed with poisonous blood so you need to hit the Ravasaurs in order to get their blood splashed over you not them.

This quest line is a gift from heaven for those who love raptor mounts(who doesn't?).

I can confirm that you can get poisoned by casting direct damaging spells, even at range.

Did this on a lv 50 shadow priest and just spammed rank 1 mind flay, usually getting 1-3 venom procs per mob.

Didn't see anyone commenting about this, but if you are a caster like me, and don't want to, or don't have, enough skill to hit the Ravasaur, you can attack it with your Wand, it will still splash poison all over you.

As a lvl 55 mage, attempting to get the poison while unarmed started out extremely slow.
Once I hit about 215 unarmed skill, it started going MUCH faster.

So for those of you who are getting frustrated from this, just hold in there until your skill level reaches around 215-220, and you'll notice it going by much quicker.

Not sure if it was said or not, but if you are a level 80, you can do this quest in a group with a lower level class (or with another 80). I did it with another level 80, but you can do it with a lower level, to make it easy for the poison to apply. This may come in handy for healer classes, since the low level can take all his equip and you can heal him throughout the fight.

Very easy to do as a lv50 warrior.

Attack one Ravasaur at a time and unequip your weapon (If you have a shield, equip it).
Use Thunder Clap and Demoralizing Shout to lower the Ravasaur's DPS.
And if you got a shield you can use Shield Block and Shield Wall to reduce all damage taken (remember that Shield Wall also reduce the damage done by the Poison).

I got about 10 Poisons from 1 Ravasuar because when I got to about 10-20% HP I used Intimidating Shout and then Heavy Frostweave Bandage (Make sure you don't have a Poison on you when you cast the Bandage or else it will interrupt it.)

pretty sure its been changed i do know that it used to proc on melee strikes thought my proficiency level of unarmed has something to do with it but i pretty sure i was incorrect i did notice that all of the venomhide that attack me seem to all proc when there health was at a certain point can proc up to 4 times was hitting 1 for 5 minutes doing next to no damage was playing a holy pally so i didn't have a problem healing i think it has to do with there % of health i don't think its an absolute rule merely and observation sorry for lazy grammer just want to get the point out there can retest and flag as bad if u want

As off patch 4.0.1, the poisen can no longer be resisted, I did this on a 80 hunter in about 30 minutes.

I unequipped my weapon and just started punching the buggers. I imagine it work better if I used a rank 1 raptor srtike or w/e,but seeing as ranks were removed the patch thats no longer possible.

I just did this quest as a level 53 Enhancement Shaman. It took me as long to get all 20 stacks of the poison as it did my mage at level 80. Both were attacking unarmed. My advice is if you're leveling through the zone don't mess w/this quest. The time v. experience gain just doesn't make it very efficient.

It appears as though the mechanic for splashing has changed recently, either in 4.0.1, 4.0.3, or 4.0.3a.

I just did this quest on my warrior, and can confirm that you still need to be attacking them to get splashed. However, if you get splashed again while you have the poison debuff already, it will NOT count towards your total. I witnessed several occasions where I would get poisoned, punch a few more times, and see the green flash and splash animation from the raptor, but not get a splash added to my counter.

To work around, I simply punched until I got splashed, stopped attacking until the debuff wore off, then started punching again. This helped me maximize my chances of poison splashes per raptor, and I had to do less hunting for respawns.

Are you ready to get naked? If you're one shotting these mobs before getting poisoned, take off all your gear, pick one Venomhide Ravasaur and pick a fight. Wait until he poisons you, then drop out of combat ( I used Feign Death) and let your sparring partner heal back up. This also seems to reset any timer the mob has on that poison ability of his. Get back up and hit him again. Rinse and repeat.

I did this in less than an hour, what I did was: get naked, make dps a LOW as I could (since I was lvl 80+), and attack the Venomhide Ravasaur untill it was about at 10% then run, and repeat. This can be repeated again and again as far as I know since 4.0.1. Have fun!

Me and a friend did this today in a group, and whenever one of us got the poison debuff, both of us got credit on the quest, so doing this in group will make it go faster. At leas that's how it's like now.

Was actually quite easy as my priest - lvl 55- took off all my gear - picked one Venomhide, punched him - and healed and threw SW Death on the Venomhide to regen mana, he stayed alive and kept poisoning me, Iused a pot when needed, died once when the elite came across us - but pretty much did all 20 with little effort.

I just completed this quest with my level 58 orc warlock. I turned off my felgaurd so he would not attack then I did as I read above just hit the thing with melee attacks. I did get more than one "poison" per raptor (I think once I got 3). I just stood there waiting for my health to go down then healed myself and waited some more. I also life taped him to bring his life down and mine up some. Worked just fine

I took off gear and weapons as a lvl 85 hunter and used my fists. Once the poison debuff had kicked in, I just ran around until it wore off and then fought the raptor again. Rinse and repeat until the raptor died.

That way, I didn't have to kill many raptors especially when other players (different faction) were in the area doing the same quest. I received anywhere from 1 to 4 "splashes" per raptor.

It seems this has been updated. This quest only requires you be splashed 20 times. I can confirm that it is possible to be splashed more than once by the same raptor. I am doing this as a level 51 holy paladin, so I attack the raptor and let it hit me, throwing some crusader strikes in for good measure (and holy power). The most I've ever noticed one raptor splash me is twice, but still, not bad. Finish it off with a hammer of wrath, and move along. The next quest is called venomhide eggs, this sends you out for 4 eggs, then you get another quest to raise one (called They Grow Up So Fast), where you have to bring back its baby teeth, 20 rune cloth, 20 rugged leather and 80 gold and the reward is the mount.

Don't kill only the black Venomhide Ravasaurs. I did that and found that waiting for them to respawn was becoming increasingly tedious.

My roommate reminded me that every time they spawn they might be spawning as the purple Ravasaur Hunter.

He was right. I started killing off the purples ones as well and it became much more bearable.

(Maybe this isn't an issue if you are the right level. I'm doing this unarmed at 85.)

Since this got filled with a bunch of crap about lore, here is specific info to the quest:

Find Venomhide Ravasaur near the right middle of the map.
If you're low level you should be able to hit them more then once without killing them.
If you're 70+ you will probably need to unequip your weapon and punch them.

You need to be hitting them for the poison effect to happen. It procs when you hit them, randomly. So it is best to strip naked if you are high level, or at least remove your weapon and things that effect how hard you punch etc. You can get the effect more then once from the same monster as well so the slower you kill the better.

It's a random proc so don't expect them to use an ability. You also can't seem to get the effect more then once while you have the debuff already, but you can remove it if you have the ability to cleanse it off. Which can make the quest faster if you pay attention and remove it asap.

While taking off weapons I did about ~1k damage each hit.. So mobs died really fast.. Then I unequipped all my items and I did ~60 damage per hit.. So got +~5 five splashs per mob.. Helped me alot to unequip all. Im 85lv Shaman

You just have to be patient.

1. Get all your gear off and fight the Raptor in order to get poisoned.
2. Bust your self for 20 days daily to complete Crescono così in fretta and get the Teeth required for your Ranasaur to grow up and be able to return the final quest and get your mount.

As an 85 Cat Druid I found it easiest to unequip weapon, pick up two or three of the raptors and hit them with unarmed auto-attack in normal Tauren stance. I was doing 77-155 damage per swing this way. When the first mob poisoned me I cleansed the debuff and switched to the next one. I would usually get poisoned again right away by the new raptor. Rinse and repeat. It seems like the poison spell has some kind of cooldown because it was never reapplied anywhere near as fast when hitting one at a time. Took about 3-4 mins to get 20 stacks with this method.

I started doing this today, and I found as a resto shaman (lvl 54) f I just go resto, throw on Earth Shield take off weapon you can get it done with 2-3 raptors. Just remember to keep Earth shield up.

For all priests, warlocks and mages trying to do this quest with a 2-4 sec swing speed staff.... Don't.

You can however use your wand.

I came here with my level 48 priest and started smacking these guys with my staff, and progress was dreadfully slow.
Once I started using my wand the poison kept coming in.

So, pull out a low dmg fast hitting wand and you'll be done with this in no time at all!

I did this at 85 by unequipping everything and punching them to death.

You're not guaranteed to get spit on before you kill them.
I don't believe any one will spit more than once, so after they spit, nuke 'em and move on.
It takes a "long, LONG" time to do this quest -- I spent at least a half hour since I had to wait on respawns.

I haven't noticed anyone else commenting on this. Skinning knife is the best wep for this quest. Previous posters were right, proc rate is about 10% of melee. Equipping a skinning knife will cause 1-3 dmg per swing modified by your stats and it's also really fast, faster if you equip two. For most players equipping it will cause less damage and more procs per minute than punching. Skinning knife is the best for this quest.

Remember guys: VENOMHIDE RAVASAURS. Not the Ravasaur Hunters.
One will spit and the other won't.

It's possible to get them to spit several times before they die, But if you're a Healing Class of any sort it's best to just bare-fist them to death, healing as necessary.

Trying to mass-punch them doesn't seem to increase the poison rate either. Take them one at a time and just... wait. And hope for the best.

Did this quest with a lvl 55 Undead Priest. Thank you all for the above posts, several were very helpful. I had to abandon the quest and start over, after fighting a Venomhide Ravasaur with my staff for about 5 minutes and not getting spit on. At that point I un-equipped staff and wand and tried the Skinning Knife ... worked like a charm. THANKS idontdothis!

Finally managed to complete the quest by fighting only ONE Venomhide Ravasaur ... my priest was doing only 4-5 damage per hit with her skinning knife, so it didn't die. Healed myself whenever I got below half health ... it took thirteen minutes to get twenty spits, and then I had to kill the ravasaur, which was down to about half health by the time I got spit #20.

I don't think it has been said yet, but while doing Toxic Tolerance it is possible for you to proc another poison while you currently have one, but you will not get credit for gaining it. Therefore considering the sometimes limited number of mobs, you should swing until you get the poison and stop attacking until it falls off.

As a hunter at 85, this quest can go by really fast if you:
1) remove all your weapons (no ranged weapons, no close-combat weapons)
2) Dismiss your pet
3) Choose Aspect of the Fox or no aspect
4) Stop attacking the Venomhide Ravasaur when it is at or below 25% hp. Instead, feign death. If feign death hasn't cooled down yet, simply turn your back to the raptor so you aren't attacking it and wait for the cooldown. Alternatively, run away until the raptor returns to it's original position with full health.
5) If you receive the poison, turn and stop attacking (you don't receive credit if you already have the poison)

Completion time: 15-20 minutes.

So... this quest was quite difficult for me since I was 85, but here's the technique that I used.

For the first few dinos, I kept attacking. Getting annoyed since I wasn't getting poisoned, I decided to try something else.

Rather than straight attack, go back and forth between attacking and just standing there. Using this techniqued, I was poisoned between 1-6 times by any one raptor. It also saves the time hunting for more.

It would seem there hasn't been an update to this post in a while. Originally, if I remember correctly, this was a 20-day process, as the poison had a cooldown on it. The CD is gone, so you can do this all in one day, however, it seems if the raptors are below 30% life they poison you less frequently. I have been poisoned by one I aggro'd but did not hit, though it seems to happen more frequently after damage is done.

It would help to note that while the Carbonite Add-on gives you a good area to look for these raptors, I found a strong concentration of them at 65, 49.

Also this gives your weapon a buff called Venomhide poison, which lasts about 3 minutes and has 15 charges on it. I'm not sure if that is simply from melee contact, or just contact in general. Not surprisingly, the venomhide raptors are immune to this poison. :)

I attempted as a lvl 57 arcane mage, so they were still green to me and I could only tolerate standing there so much before I had to kill the raptor to heal. Taking on 2 raptors at a time was almost a death sentence.

I came back as a level 61 Hunter to complete old quests for Loremaster . It's time consuming, so put on your favorite music. Pick the larger field approximately @ 69,52. If you keep searching the whole area you will only find about 4 Venomhide, BUT, kill all the Ravasaur Hunters in the field and wait for the respawn. Now you have a field full of Venomhide. To encourage Poison on me, I put my pet into passive mode, at my level I got little agro from passing Ravasaurs and took the hits with little damage. It's a total of 20 poisonings.

When you attack one of these raptors there's a chance that it 'poisons' you. This gives you a 5 minute buff. You can't get poisoned again while having this buff, but you can 'right-click' it away.

What I did, on my level 54 warrior:
* I used two weapons, you can use more! (I think you can only get poisoned once per mob, per weapon).
* I attacked the raptor until I got the buff, then I 'right-clicked' it, and switched weapons.

That way I usually got poisoned twice per mob.
This way, the quest only took me 5 minutes, instead of the 20*5 = 100 minutes (if you don't click away the buff)!

Doing this a a lvl 50 resto druid. Gotta love the healing factor lol. Its quit easy at any level. This and the singing sunflower is a must for all my alts.

Still a long grind to get spit on. I killed 15 so far been spit on 10 times. Some do it twice,others none. Its bad tho when I pull two or the king rex's come over and play tho.

Tip for 85s doing this: unequip you weapon(s), pick a raptor, and auto attack with your hands. It is possible to get all your poisons from one raptor as long as you're poking it with your hands you'll get splashed. Its kinda slow, since unarmed you don't hit for a lot (but you don't want to either).. but at 85 you're barely getting hit at the same time. Read a book, get some coffee, come back, eventually you'll have all 20, then you can proceed to 1-shot the raptor out of its misery. Happy mount hunting!

I don't really know if it's mentioned already, I personally couldn't find it - When you get sprayed you get the debuff which is obvious but if you get sprayed again you will only get your debuff duration refreshed and not getting credits for it. So what I did as a paladin was dispelling the debuff every time i got sprayed, which kind of helped me a lot. If your class can dispell Poison try it out. Good luck!

It's probably an obvious comment, but if you're below the level of some of the raptors, make sure you pick a level 50 to punch down on. As a level 50 mage using only autoattacks I was missing enough on a level 51 that it wasn't efficient; found a level 50 and the quest was a cakewalk.

This quest SUCKS as a Tauren or whatever else has inherent nature resistance.

I tried two different things that both had about equal effect. 1) I was pressing Alt+F4 to close WoW, then logging back on and attacking the same Ravasaur. Worked pretty well. 2) I then realized I could just run between two spawn points that were far enough away from each other to let the last one reset and run back. #1 seemed more likely to get poisoned each time I aggroed. #2 sometimes I wouldn't get a stack by the time I was ready to run away, but I also didn't have to... close WoW and log out. Either way sucked, but eventually I got it done.

Confirmed that you can only get the poison if you are hitting the mob.

If you're trying to do this quest at 85 the best way is to take off ALL your gear (rings, cloak, trinks and neck included) and auto attk them. Also make sure you remove all buffs.

Took me about 20 secs to kill each one with auto attk as a feral druid and i would get 1-4 poisons each go around.

This is hands down the most tedious quest ever! It took me a while but I got all 20 slashes. I'm sure other people have a quicker way to get this done but for me this is the only thing that worked. I stripped off all the armor. If there were any Ravasaur Hunters in the area I cleared them out first. I am a 57 Warlock so I made my self a health stone and put my pet on passive. Then I got one of the venom raptors and pulled it away from the clearing. There is a devilsaur that strolls through now and again so I made sure to stay out of his path. Some times I would get a slash while dragging him away. Some times I had to bop him in the head a few times. Once I got the slash I ran away and waited for the 5 min counter to go away. I found I could get another slash while I was still poisoned. Also as a lock make sure you don't have demon armor up!

Just did this on my level 80 Shadow Priest. I stripped off all my gear, trinks and weapons. Went NW and found 2 Venomhides and 2 other kinds. Aggroed all 4 and just auto attacked without shadowform and just used greater heal on myself everytime I got down to 25 - 30 % health. It took about 30 minutes but got them all off that one group and yes only the Venomhides can splash you.

If you aren't a self healing class, bring a healer or get ready for a long night of fighting.

It seemed while I was doing the quest this afternoon that stacks of poison you get while you're currently poisoned don't count toward the 20. Someone should double-check this. If so then cleansing the poison off yourself as soon as you get credit for it can ensure you don't miss getting credit for poisoning.

As of Patch 4.3.4:

85 Tauren Elemental Shaman

All I did was strip down to nothing, turned off my Lightning Shield, and walked up to the Venomhide Ravasaur and started punching. Since they have roughly 2800 HP, and my punches do all of 50 HP, it takes quite a while for them to go down which gives ample opportunities for you to be splashed with blood. I got roughly 3 splashes per Ravasaur which equated to 7 kills.

Best way to do this is to just strip down, punch them, and wait till they die, then move on to the next one. Easy as that. Amazingly I had over 4k damage done to me each fight and averaged 31 dps.

I was using a bow to pull a Venomhide, and from a distance I got splashed with its poison. From there I used my fists (so as not to kill it right away), walked backwards and attacked until it it ran away. I followed it back and started the process again. Took about 15 minutes to get 20 poisons.

That's the start of the quest - while fighting the Venomhides take off all your gear and just punch them, when their health gets down to, say, 25%, run away until they stop fighting and then re-attack after they heal back up - easiest way to do it.

The venomhides are few and far between, located northwest from the questgiver Mor'vek but before the area of Fire Plume Ridge. When you find one, do not use any high damaging abilities, you want the battle to last for as long as you or the raptor can handle because killing it requires more time and effort wasted to find another.
To do this quest you need to be hitting the raptor, melee is recommended, and each hit has a chance to poison you. Each time you get poisoned, it will be added to your quest.
For those who're high in level, take any weapons off and melee until the raptor is below 1000 health, run away and start again on the same one. Those who're around the level for the area (50+) the same can apply to you, no weapons, but keep an eye on your health. Taking off armor would only apply to the higher levels, reducing stats to also deal less damage.
The overall process shouldn't take more than about 15-20 minutes, for 50+ you may expect a bit longer.

This quest wasn't too difficult once I got the hang of it. Try to pull the Venomhides away from the other raptors so they don't attack you while you're trying to get poisoned. If you can drag it out long enough one raptor can poison you several times. Also, if you're a Pally, take off the Retribution Aura so you're not dealing extra damage on accident. Whoops!

This quest will take sort of a long time I would say about 20-50 min depending on your luck but took me about 30 min. Most people at first will think this quest is glitched at the start because the quest item is not a drop or associated with killing the raptor. You will have to melee the raptor so ranged wep's wont work on them, each raptor you kill will prob poison you with the raptor blood 1-2 times or none if you unlucky. If a lot of people are farming them and their in a short supply you should just melee their health to a low point then run away and wait for them to reset and do that again and again for about 3-5 times then kill that one and find a new one. If your a high lvl around 70-80 the best way is to use your fists and some people say wearing no armor will help you do the quest faster but I'm not sure if its true, any other lvls around 60-70 should just wear your usual armor and just buy a crappy lvl 30ish wep from a wep vendor like the Bullova i used.

I got 17/20 of my splashes from one ravasaur. If u find one that keeps giving you splashes stick with it. mine was a lvl 50. im a lvl 50 priest.

I had such a tough time with this quest until I found that the venom splash will happen even if the Voidwalker sacrifice shield is up. Then doing this as a lock was easy. Sacrifice - let the venomhide raptor beat you for 30 seconds - Fear and repeat. By the time the fear effect is over, you should just about be done with the sacrifice cooldown. It takes a while but eventually you will get your 20 splashes. I wonder if a priest could do the same with PWS?

As a lvl 53 warrior this was a good time to level up my unarmed skill. I did notice that I was splashed significantly more when I constantly used Demoralizing Shout. I am uncertain if it was coincidence or not.

This quest is very easy and people keep complicating it by killing all the Venomhide Ravsaur's.

Save yourself a ton of time and effort by doing as I did.

The goal is to get Splashed with Venomhide blood.
So you want to land as many hits on the Venomhide Ravasaur without it dying.

Take off all of your gear and weapons. Equip a low level weapon (Skinning Dagger, Mining Pick will not work)
I used a level 17 Gouging Pick which I use as my Mining Pick.

When you attack the Venomhide Ravasaur and successfully get splashed with Venomhide Poison, you will notice that you have a debuff. You will also notice that you have a new BUFF. Your weapon is coated with poison BUFF.
Remove the BUFF (which coats your weapon) by right clicking it.

I have gotten up to 7 of the 20 necessary
"Splashed with Venomhide blood" from 1 venomhide ravasaur. I reset the npc when it almost dies and repeated. I got all 20 necessary quest requirements from 1 NPC by doing so and completed the quest in less than 2 minutes.

Welcome you sweaty collectors to WOTLK Classic. Simple guide for getting your first venom quest done.

Get naked. Fight them unarmed, grab a few at a time if you can, and enjoy getting poisoned. If you stand there letting them hit you, you'll be waiting forever to get your 20/20.

I did this with a friend, he took all the aggro, I auto attacked them unarmed and got my 20 stacks within 5 minutes.

Pretty basic. Run to around 67,55 naked as in no armor, even removed rings and trinkets. Equip a low level weapon, I used a sword 17dps. After about 5 to 10 hits, you will get splashed. I reckon it takes a few hits to get started. Also, you best be able to cure poison that way you can cleanse yourself and get poisoned again to get over quicker.

For anyone doing this in 2023 or later.

Buy Archibugio del Drago dei Goblin, Modello II and just spray it on the Venomhide Ravasaur mob. It has a 30 sec cooldown, so it will take you about 10 minutes if u do it against 1 mob. I pulled 5 of them and got 0-2 procs. idk if its possible to procc more with multiple mobs or if it just procc'd or "bugged" on the same mob twice, but i never got more than 2 procs on one use.

I read all of this and not much worked for me. Fighting unarmed worked once every other mob. Switched out my weapon more a mining pick. Did it in less than 7 minutes after that.

I think it has everything to do with attack speed.
I did this quest on my Pala and felt lucky if I got poisoned every 3 mobs or so.
Then I did it on my feral druid and only needed to fight 4 mobs in total, who poisoned me multiple times....

This quest is genuinely impossible. I've tried taking off all clothes/armor, equipping a mining pick, equipping no weapon at all, having res sickness, using the foam sword, having multiple attack me at once, etc. Nothing works, they all get one shotted. Not really sure what is left to try. They need to fix this so that either the foam sword works, or just killing them is good enough.

Take off your weapon and let them hit you while you heal yourself (or a friend heals you) till they die, rinse, repeat.

In Cata Classic, you don't need to be meleeing or even in melee range to get the poison.
I just did this on my mage, opening with a couple of Frost Bolts. And regularly got poisoned long before the Ravasaur reached me.

That said, I also noticed sometimes my Elemental would get the debuff instead of me. And of course I wouldn't progress the quest like that.
So pet classes, consider dismissing your pets to speed up the quest but not sharing poison with your pet.

Toxic Tolerance

Mor'vek in Un'goro Crater claims that if you were poisoned by Venomhide Ravasaur blood 20 times, you could ride one without dying. Attack Venomhide Ravasaurs for a chance to be poisoned.

You want to ride a Venomhide? Then I've got bad news for you.

The Venomhide Ravasaurs, they're all poison: Poison blood, poison spit, poison skin. You climb on one, you fall off dead in a few hours.

You'd have to build up a resistance to their toxins before I sold you one, and that takes a long, LONG time... you'd need to be splashed with poisonous blood while fighting one numerous times. If you're really interested, the venomhides prefer the northern area of of the Marshlands, northwest of here.
