im not JC nor do i own a tank charakter but i would guess this is an more or less awesome trinket for a tank as the high stamina and the temp. + dogde ((most use for what do i know druid/pally/DK tanks since warriors get rage from getting hit) could be very useful when something is about to go wrong =P....+ room for 2 gems

Gem this with Solid Dragon's Eye and another one of the jewellers gem's with tanking stats you require and it becomes a very convincing argument for a tank to start speccing JC, as it would be superior to the only non profession BoP trinket with near equivalent stamina Essence of Gossamer with a lower level req, but as others have said this is only just a blue so epic's are liable to have some insane stats.

According to wowwiki you need 39.35 rating to get 1% dodge @ lvl 80, so this is 7.6% for 10 seconds on a 1 minute CD currently. Since its an active buff seems just amazing since you can pop it when you choose in between your other mitigation abilities being on CD.

This thing pretty much rocks. JC itself looks very much worth taking in WotLK and the fact that all the trinkets look this nice it makes it look really worthwhile for a hybrid to go JC.

Socketed with Solid Dragon's Eye and Solid Sky Sapphire, you're looking at 137 total stamina! That translates to 2222HP for Tauren Bears - that, coupled with the on use ability makes this a very good trinket for Druids who don't have a use for Def, Parry, or Block.

While in the future I'd like to be able to use these as pure stamina trinkets, for now I'll likely be socketing them for defense. The Def ~~cap~~ minimum is tricky to reach at the moment. When the time comes that it's no longer needed, I can resocket for more stamina.

And holy crap, the use on this is great. A one minute cooldown? Fantastic. This is an emergency button that should be up every pull or multiple times per boss fight!

I know that it's really nice to see the uber high stam to give you HP through the roof, but I've found as a druid tank that I prefer socketing this trink (for the time being) with the following gems:

Regal Twilight Opal

Stalwart Monarch Topaz

Choosing dodge over defense as a druid thanks to the updated Survival of the fittest (granting a static 6% decrease in chance to be critted, which is why most tanks stack defense in the first place. This leaves a much less percentage to be made up by your defense rating in order to hit the cap).

As any experienced tank will know you can have sky-rocketing health, but without stacking proper defensive/dodge stats (or parry and block for other classes) you're all but worthless in a fight.

I'm sure that as I discover newer patterns even these gems will be replaced, but I can almost guarantee that I won't be stacking stam on this one.

I've already seen some people comment similarly here and get down-rated for their choices, so consider this merely food for thought, keep it in your back pocket for those days when your healer is telling you that you simply don't have enough mitigation and they can't keep up with the amount of health that you're dropping in a boss battle.

Really wish these were unique equipped rather then just unique.

It would be really nice to be able to swap gem picks with out having to destroy the previous ones. (Had to juggle my 3 bop gem limit recently)

I'm really curious about the people's takes on the comparison of these two trinkets.

If you put two +24 stam gems in the monarch crab that's +111 stamina (same as the essence of gossamer) which brings it down to the use on the crab and the proc on the essence.

Any thoughts on which is better? Any theory crafting or any of that good stuff? Obviously the one is a use and the other is a passive so one less thing to press if you use the essence, but let's not worry about that, just look strictly at the damage mitigation/avoidance.

I'm a prot paladin tank by the way.

Druid tanks currently have a niche that no other tanking class (other than Deathknight -- Thanks, ChevelleDK!) can fill. You can stick them in front of a boss and have them absorb the insane damage that some WotLK bosses can put out. Take a peak at any bear in a top-end guild and they've socketed almost exclusively for stamina so they can tackle these bosses effectively.

3-drake Sartharion's white hits and cleave are very weak. For instance, he hits me regularly for around 6-7k and cleaves for about 2-3k. His breath, however, from Tenebron through Shadron does anywhere between 15-22k damage. When Vesperon lands he's putting out around 45k fire breaths and you have 25% less health. I have about 47k fully raid buffed and I sit around 35k during the fight. This means that I need to make up that 25% health by stacking as much stamina as I can so that a paladin's Hand of Sacrifice or my own Barkskin can save me until Shadron dies.

This trinket is a godsend for the sheer amount of stamina you can cram on it.

I use this with a Solid Dragon's Eye and a Solid Sky Sapphire coupled with the Essence of Gossamer in order to get as much health as possible so that I can have a better chance at surviving those breaths.

I have other trinkets for avoidance; but this one is the clear winner for the "stand in front of this boss and take a 45k hit every 20 seconds" deal that only druids can seem to fill at this time.

Personally, i find the best way to socket this trinket is with a Solid Sky Sapphire in the blue slot, and a Solid Dragon's Eye in the yellow slot. Since the Solid Dragons eye counts as a prismatic gem you also get the socket bonus, meaning a total of 137 stamina, as well as the semi-useful "use" effect. Play the trinket to its strengths and pack it with as much stamina as possible, but i advise against using 2x Solid Dragon's Eye, seeings as that only leaves you with 1 more for the rest of your gear (since you can only equip 3 at a time), which means you might be socketing other items sub-optimally, or missing socket bonuses, which shouldnt really be happening as a JC.

Also, in response to Fribain earlier, DK's can also tank 3d Sartharion effectively by cycling their cooldowns (icebound fortitude, bone shield and anti-magic shell) to massively reduce the damage of the breaths. Personally i sit at around 42k health raidbuffed, and that will be rising by a good 2-3k after the patch such that i should be on around abouts 35k unbuffed.

I stuck 2 x Thick Dragon's Eye in mine - 69 stam and 54 def as well a great on use FTW one of the best pre-heroic trinkets you can find imo.

This adds up to 1540HP*1.08*1.06*1.10 = 1939.2912 HP (alot more than the infamous Essence of Gossamer
Making this trinket, by far, the strongest pure stamina trinket in game.

It gives dodge rating because when you put the crab on the floor it tries to snap your legs, making you dance about, after 10seconds of dancing, your stamina improves!

I personally have put two of the 41 stamina gems in my crab, and it equalled roughly 1700 health as a death knight.

Another interesting thing about this trinket, is that it does NOT share a cooldown with the Valor Medal, so you can pop both at the same time for an insane dodge boost.

Using https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=37872 causes the crab to start a 20 second hidden CD. There's no hidden CD on either item if you use the crab before the talisman however.

Oddly only (4) four blue trinkets have +stamina https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=37220, from alchemy https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=44323, and the rest 2 of them are from JC https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=42341 https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=44063,

There are only (2) TWO epics that provide +stamina so far, both in Ulduar
and it is a bit! difficult to get https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=45158 and https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=46021

Some of these blues... are still preferred instead of the epic ones with NO stamina bonuses, because they have! +stamina and some even have sockets for even more bonuses

This will not be so great when dragon's eyes are made non-prismatic, but I have a solid stormjewel in the blue socket and a solid dragon's eye in the yellow socket. This satisfies the socket bonus without two dragon's eyes, and gives you a dodge on use trinket with +143 Stamina. Not too bad!

I hear many people saying that essence of gossamer is better but I disagree. With 2 sockets you can customize it to meet your needs and the dodge you can use is great. Also you can have the same stam with a solid dragons eye and a solid sky sapphire.

Considering that J/C can only use this trinket and that you get it at lv 75. I personally socket it with Dragon eye for yellow.
1. Your lv 75 when you can use this = more use.

2. You don't see better trinket till Uldar and you have to get drop and win roll to get it. <FYI GOOD LUCK>

3. To get Uldar you need good gear. So you will be constantly changing gear spot until you get the gear you want. Why waste Dragon eye gems on gear your only going use for a little while?

4. Your giving up a yellow spot for gems that are not great anyway for a tanking person. Blue and Red are easy to fill Blue stamina and Red dodge or parry I would go with Subtle Cardinal Ruby for red personally.

5. If you level J/C and get materials this is 100% no need to throw your computer out of the window when everyone beats you in rolls and you finally see the drop you want. Le sigh lol and I know a lot of us felt that way before haha.
