Located in the far western edge of Northrend, the Borean Tundra (pronounced BOHR-ian, not boh-REHH-an) is the home of the Tuskarr. Drakkari trolls, blue dragons, the Undead Scourge, and naga also inhabit the zone. Important landmarks of the region include the Tuskarr capital of Kaskala and the Riplash Ruins. Coldarra is an island just off the coast.
Most of the Borean Tundra is empty ice. Tuskarr are the dominant presence in the Borean Tundra. However, they keep near their villages, and one can go for days without seeing another living creature. Tuskarr mainly care about fishing, whaling and protecting their villages. Tuskarr will fend off hungry Drakkari, and even fight wayward nerubians, and are formidable foes; but they never attack anyone without a good reason. Drakkari wander the tundra, but not in any significant numbers, most are content to roam alone or in small packs. They have no city in the tundra, but live in several camps, none big enough to have names. They harass the tuskarr from time to time, but every time the tuskarr gather their forces and send the Drakkari running. Nerubians wander about as well, but only in small packs. Naga live near the south end, in the Riplash Ruins. Sometimes blue dragons from Coldarra also fly over the tundra from time to time. Scourge creatures, lone scouts straggle over from the lake area.
The Borean Tundra is not an important part of Northrend. It’s too isolated and too barren to be desirable and has too much shoreline to be defensible. Tuskarr like it because of that expansive shore, and the Riplash Ruins gives the naga a perfect view of anyone approaching across the ocean from the south. Drakkari hunt here because they can and because the tundra provides little cover for wildlife. Most others stay well away, preferring the forested areas to the east.
Borean Tundra contains bases of both factions, and won't have an emphasis for a specific faction. There will be a port between Borean Tundra and Howling Fjord that uses a giant turtle with a deck on its back as a quick means to travel between the 2 starting zones. There will be a murloc faction that opens up after some quests for D.E.H.T.A. The murlocs can actually talk and repair your equipment. They also have quests against an infected camp across the cove

According to
WoWWiki
, the flightpaths on the Borean Tundra are as following:
Alliance:
Fizzcrank Airstrip
Valiance Keep
Horde:
Bor'gorok Outpost
Taunka'le Village
Warsong Hold
Neutral:
Amber Ledge
Transitus Shield
Unu'pe

The map is missing one or two questgivers that hand out quests to both factions. For example,
Glrglrglr
and
Lurgglbr
in the Winterfin Cavern (near King Mrgl-Mrgl) both have quests - one is an escort.

This is basically the Zangarmarsh of Northrend.

A good zone for starting out in Northrend. Good rare quests rewards, for any class/spec.

Access to Borean Tundra:
A Horde airship from a new tower west of Orgrimmar city gates goes to Warsong Hold in Borean Tundra
An Alliance ship from the new Harbor District in north Stormwind City goes to Valiance Keep, Borean Tundra
To get to Coldarra, do the few quests at Amber Ledge and you will get the flight path. (or get summoned)

You get to the island Coldarra by going to Amber Ledge. Once there you will see a Green ! on your map representing a Red Dragon Flight Master. Get his flight path, and you will also automatically recieve the flight path for his smaller counterpart on the island of Coldarra.
Keep in mind that on live, there are few if any guards currently on Coldarra, significantly increasing your chances to be ganked.

Call it whining if you want but I really dont get why there are 7 Horde flight points in Borean Tundra + Howling Fjord while there are only 5 for Alliance. In any other zone in Northrend the number is equal...
Probablly due to the fact that the horde has more quests in the Borean Tundra. Or I would assume we have more considering our achievement,
Nothing Boring about Borean
requires horde to complete 20 more quests than alliance.
And I do agree with the following comment...
These (D.H.E.T.A ) quest hubs also happen to be in the middle of nowhere because much of the zone is very open and on the plain side of detail, so things have quickly gotten out of hand in terms of PvP due to the ease of ambushes and lack of safe terroritory for either faction.
Try to stick to your faction town quest lines when there's a lot of PvP activity, and do the neutral stuff when things quiet down more.
Which has been downgraded. I am on a pvp server. It is great to see and be involved in pvp all the time. But at the same time, if you are trying to grind, make yourself less of a target if you are going to be one of the whiners on the trade channel.
All in all its a great zone, alot of fun and a great intro to Northrend.

Fishing in Borean Tundra requires at least 380 Fishing, 475 to avoid losing catches.

Home of the new and improved Tundra Chat! (Kinda like Barrens Chat but more Tundra-ey)

Just wondering if it would be possible to grind from 67 to 68 here? I'm getting sick of Outland so any feedback would be appreciated.

Check the quest rewards section.
Some areas here can be pretty nasty and cloth-unfriendly. My mage died here a couple of times. Some respawns are just way too fast, while others are awfully bad.
My protection warrior breezed through all of the quests quite easily.
The quest rewards for tanking classes (pre-heroics outland geared) is lacking. Most items have spellpower, a lot of critical, and some basic attributes.
So for healing and spellcaster classes this area is pretty nice to get gear.
The questhubs are pretty easy to find as well and their objectives are pretty much straightforward and nearby to complete.

This zone is available at 68, and you can start questing here. I personally would recommend that you get to 69/70 before you start in Tundra, as it will make questing easier (especially for clothies) and you will be able to hit 73/74, and move on to Dragonblight a lot faster than if you have to grind up from 68.

According to the quest log, Coldarra has quests under it's own tab instead of a Borean Tundra tag. This most likely means Coldarra was meant to be it's own zone, but they just made it under Borean Tundra.

@ Abomb's comment, actually doing both of them was effective for my hunter. He's 73 right now and is done with Howling but not done with Borean.

note that the mobs here are yielding more experience than in Outland, aprox +50 - +60%.
e.g., a lvl 70 mob in Outland yields ~1200 XP, while in Northrend dies for ~1900 XP.

as with outlands northrend is the better place to level at 68 but i suggest hitting howling fjord till 69 the quests there are lowbie friendly

If you ever come back here on a flying mount, do not try to fly to the floating zigurat at the Temple City of En'Kilah, the second you flying into the bottom end, you will be dismounted and fall to your death :)

If you're an Engineer, be sure to bring your
Arclight Spanner
- you can dismantle the dead robots, stripping them of some tasty parts.

The word 'Borean' is a reference to Boreas, the greek god of the cold northern winds.
评论来自
Khalaas
It might or might not be a direct reference, but I think Temple City of En'kilah obtained its name from King Enkil, the vampire from Anne Rice's books. Looks kind of symbolic with a blood-drinking darkfallen Prince ruling over it.

Quick dialoge between Saurfang and Garrosh,
Saurfang:I am not speaking of soley children im talking about our enemies...
Saurfang pauses.
Saurfang: I wont let you take that dark path again young garrosh, If you do ill kill you myself before that day comes
Garrosh: How can you managed to survive so long, Saurfang? Not a victim to our memories?
Saurfang:I dont eat pork
Saurfang spits

A 'horde zone', but the horde quests start in a pitch black environment at the base of the fortress. It gets better after this. The horde gets a few easy blue items, available to the alliance only by group quests.
Leveling 68 to 72 is very doable. With some rested XP one can hit 73.
In this zone one can level skinning to 450 and leather working to 400.

The music of this zone has been copied from "Soul Reaver" (at least a part of it). It took me a while to realize this because my memories about that game were faint but here you go:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1S-PAEZolNw
(from 0:30 to 0:50)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLrNSRGwO_c
(The intro)
Like I say when I entered in Northrend and leveled up in this zone those days I was just thinking "I think I've already heard this this part of the song somewhere else" until I finally remembered where did I heard this before.

Also interesting to note on the origin of the name:
The aurora borealis (northern lights) occurs both in-game and in real word at northern latitudes. Borean Tundra is in
Northrend
and starts with
Bore
an like
Bore
alis. This is just speculation, of course; and there is no way to confirm it other than asking the person who chose the name.
----
About a year and a half has passed since I wrote this comment. "Borean" is a different way of saying
boreal
, so it's very likely just a coincidence.

If you are trying to decide between whether to start in Borean Tundra or Howling Fjord, pick Borean. From my experience the quest rewards are much better in Borean, BUT.....don't skip Howling Fjord. Do yourself a favor and either run Borean first them Howling Fjord or come back to Howling Fjord later, the quests are pretty funny and a a lot of fun.

做最坏的打算
. It awards 250 reputation with kaluak. There are nice exalted reputation rewards such as

or
驯养的企鹅卵
.

The tiger lily in this zone seems to respawn very fast, more so then in other zones so if you want some herbs this place is great for it. They respawned in about 1 minute for me so if you just stay around and kill stuff for a bit more will be there. This was the case last time I was there so if Blizzard has changed it tell me.

I suggest for everyone to try to get cold weather flying before coming here. Although it does cost 500 gold. But that's half the price of what it originally was. It makes many quests as well as traveling around this area much easier.
