Along with wasps this category is one of the most useful pets for hunters pve-wise. The demoralizing screech works in aoe mode and can be very useful both in single-mob (boss) fights and when dealing with multiple mobs. It should also be noted that it is highly probable that the two highest ranks of this debuff stack which means that two hunters of the same guild can pre-assign their pets to these ranks causing a total of 620ap reduction (aoe-style). This is not the case. Pets acquire improved versions of their skills forcibly the moment they acquire their new levels. Too bad.

yeah only unique because bats and owl loose screech... :(
But bats get a 2 sec stun
and Owls get a Disarm...

So the questions are, will the attack power it lowers be as much as disarming? If so, is it anywhere near as good as a stun?

Carrior birds have an odd niche now-they're a ferocity pet with a basically defensive family ability. If you're looking for a defensive ferocity pet, the carrion bird will do nicely, but that's not a very useful niche-they're as rare a pet as ever.

It's funny actually. Real life vultures have no larynx (voice box) so screeching is quite impossible.

Guttural grunts and hisses are all that these birds can achieve. This totally ruins the "factual basis" that WoW is set in for me.

The reason is simple. The min-maxers bandwagon on whatever the current Top Pet is and inferior pets don't get their abilities tested seriously. People who use pets as a novelty (and are more likely to use, say, Serpents and Sporebats) aren't min-maxers and like their pet because its cool or unique. These players aren't hardcore enough to want to test their pets in the first place.

Carrion birds are large, carnivorous, scavenger birds. Other species include buzzards, rocs, condors, vultures, and swoops. They usually have featherless heads and broad, slow-flapping wingspans. Carrion birds are sometimes found lurking about the bones of dead beasts and ill-managed graveyards. They can be found in Mulgore, Westfall, Tanaris, the Arathi Highlands, Badlands, Blasted Lands, Thousand Needles, Desolace, Deadwind Pass, and Redridge Mountains. Carrion birds have also been seen in the Hellfire Peninsula and Terokkar Forest of Outland.

Additional notes:

-Carrion birds are hostile beasts that will attack players that venture too close.
-Most carrion birds have a knock-down ability called Swoop that interrupts attacks by characters and requires time for them to get up after being knocked down.
-In the Burning Crusade, there is an Outland version of the carrion bird which includes two heads with brightly colored feathers.

Vultures in real life wouldn't be able to screech either, so the fact they have Demoralizing Screech is more farfetched. The Birds of Prey would fit better with this ability especially since owls, falcons, and eagles can screech.
