Just confirmed that these will stay green all the way to 450 Mining.

My level 68 on an epic mount managed to skill up all the way to 450 in Howling Fjord exclusively and the last skill-up was from a regular Cobalt Node, not a Rich one.

Smelting these down and putting them up for auction is a great way to make some cash while levelling.

They are currently going for about 70-80g/stack on my server (Silvermoon EU)

Really good place to farm cobalt but dont go pullng your hair when you see a node on your minimap but you can find/get to it. well on my server, thers a node thats been in the same place for weeks.

Zul'Drak has the most nodes of all the Northrend zones. In a little under 30 minutes, I can pass every node point in the zone once. In one circuit, I get:

50-60 Cobalt Ore
10-15 Crystallized Earth
5-10 Crystallized Water
1-3 Saronite Ore

I usually have to kill 2-3 mobs max in the circuit, but I'm a Druid, and instant-cast Swift Flight Form saves me from fighting mobs on occasion.

These appear to have been renamed to Cobalt Deposit with 3.0.8. This has broken addons that track node locations, though I was able to correct all references in the one I use and get it working.

Its also drops https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=36927 Twilight Opal blue gem I mined one now I mean today :) and it was not the Rich type of this vein

I managed to mine a Scarlet Ruby which suprised me from howling fjord, there seems to be few there at the moment so im going to be trying Zul'Drak seems like the best place to mine this :)

At the top of this page is says that Zul'Drak has more colbat deposits. Well I was circling the area for about 2 hours and only found 4 cobalt, 1 saronite, no rich cobalt. So I assume this area is heavily farmed, because I was using guides to find the best route.

I then went to Howling Fjord and found over 55 cobalt ore in one circle of the map. I just followed the mountain range and did not go off into the middle areas. Then I went back to Zul'Drak at 3AM server time and only two people were in the zone (both were not miners) and I found maybe.. one more deposit.

In conclusion, I recommend Howling Fjord if you want to farm cobalt ore during any time of the day. Obviously it will vary by server, but I came across way more nodes in fjord, way closer together. Follow the mountain range, go into the excavation site, etc.

Between this and Rich Cobalt Deposit you can get your mining to 450 without ever having to touch a saronite node.

There's this mine node in Zul'Drak that contains a bug. Co-ordinates are 14.8 76.2

It cannot be mined, meaning that the mining cursor will not activate when hovered above it. If you come into contact with the mine, or stand over it, you will fall down throught the map.

Can anyone confirm this?

I've actually found Dragonblight to be the best area to farm Cobalt, it's barley farmed if at all and the route is very easy to follow. You basicly make circuits around the zone but take a detour to the Ruby Dragonshire after you go to the Azure Dragonshrine.

Just thought i would add my little contribution.

A full trip of Zul'Drak (Took around 25 minutes ish) Netted me.

58 Colbat Ore.
6 Crystallized Earth.
6 Crystallized Water
1 Autumn's Glow

All round. Nice and easy farming. Very little resistance from mobs and nice result for little work.

yeah, the best place for theese are indeed Zul'Drak , but if u are not the right lvl to go there and dont have a flying mount, it can be tricky, so i sugest if u canot make ur way there, go to Howling Fjord, its the next best place for them and much easier for 68-71 to get

I've managed to get into Zul'Drak with my 60lvl twink. I went to farm Manual: Heavy Frostweave Bandage. I have 377 mining skill Cobalt Deposit require 350.

When I wanted to loot one of deposits message appears: You are not high enough level

after hours of farming in Borean Tundra i tried to farm in Zul'Drak and i found 10 deposits within literally 3 mins.

After about 2-3 hours of farming these, I got more Cobalt ore from Borean Tundra then Zul'drak, however alot of the nodes in zul'drak were saronite too, figured i might as well mention this.

If you are a miner it's worth smelting this into bars as they sell for more.

Blizzard has to have changed the spawn rate on these things, at least in Zul'Drak. I used to be able to get my hands on Cobalt with no issue but now the price is up over 100g/stack because it's almost impossible to come by. Maybe everyone was already aware of it or maybe no one cares but I find this really irritating as it's become difficult to level my blacksmithing now on my alt without a boat-load of cobalt.

I a also at the point in my Blacksmithing to were I need lots of this and can find hardly any in Zul'drak or Howling Ford I don't know what blizz has done but it would be nice to not have to pay 100g+ for older ore like Fel Iron and Cobalt when there seems to be more adamantite and Saronite around.

I have read here that since Cata was released that Cobalt Ore was becoming harder to find, I was lvling Engineering and Blacksmithing so I was not happy to hear this.

I used this addon to help me - GatherMate2 & the GatherMate2 database both downloaded from Curse. I used this instead of Gatherer because gatherer doesn't by default come with a database and the one they do supply is way way out of date.

I also googled quick "Mining 1-525 guide" this gave me a quick map of the Howling Fjord. (I farmed at about 10am servertime weekday)

I didn't miss even one node on this map (except underwater nodes), it took about 35-40 minutes to do 3 clean sweeps in the time I also killed 3 rares which was nice :D

So to sum up, I don't think it's that bad really, it's not thorium ore in Ungoro but it's not bad.

Zul'Drak = the worst place to farm cobalt veins...There is a lot of veins on the map, but the rate of pop is really, really low
