Easy to tame solo at level 70, but the guide is still useful if you want to get it at a lower level without a group.

Not worth getting this for ability, No one has a map of where they are so unless u have plenty of help prepare to die and repair very often trying to look for these. I suggest waiting till 64 and getting bite 9, this is a focus drainer anywayz.

For those who don't need a thorough guide, this one is by Baalthazaq on thottbot:
It is actually possible to solo tame them without very good gear. (I have greens and blues only).
Use lesser invisibility potions and you can run through most of the hotspots, but I only used 2. The rest of the time I used my temporary pet to distract the mobs, run past and fieng death in a safe spot.
Taming the actual worg:
I found a good place to set your ambush is the stairs below the hallway where the 2 Worgs and the Raider patrol.
As you see the first worg, send your temp pet at it, and launch everything you've got at it. Feigning death once it's been dealt with. There is still one Worg left.
At this point abandon your temp pet. The pattern is simple. Lay down a freeze trap. Then when you see them coming, fire immediately with concussive, followed by Scorpid Sting at the WORG, and hit tame asap.
The slow wolf will not get to you (and therefore wont walk into the trap) before the raider. He also does less damage and is less likely to critical thanks to the sting. This SHOULD buy you enough time to tame it, but be prepared to take a beating. (+stamina food, a druid who can stealth with you, a rogue with sap, all these help).
Finally, heals do NOT break tames automatically. The reason this happens is that you need to make sure the aggro stays on you, and taming does very very little threat. If you open with an aimed or distracting shot at the target, you build up enough aggro that you can get a couple of heals before the tame breaks.

This is the only pet that will give Bite 8 so hunters will want to train one. They hit hard and if anyone heals you while taming tame beast will break, so mark one that you're training, lay down a trap and pull with tame and let the group kill everything else while leaving yours alone.

I downloaded the video (very well done) and I read the web page linked several times. I Only died 6 times ! This was my very first time in BRS, I'm still pretty new at level 60 with several green armors. All told it took me maybe 8 invisibility potions. He does decent damage think I'll train him up and use as PvE tank. Good luck Hunters!

okay.. here is my addition... I am a 55 hunter and went in with a 70 pally.
Instructions were great, but when you get to the tents you are screwed. My pally and i pretty much fought our way in to that part..not too hard, but the tent section requires you to zip through because they all agro at once.
Anyway after a few attempts i settled for one of the other worgs up top until i can get back with a group....honestly, i REALLY want this doggy now!
Will check back with you all..and thanks for the great instructions.

Got mine last night with a group, I am level 60. I tried soloing it a few times but even with a few buff potions I would die before I finished training (man that worg hits hard). The rest of the group distracted the other mobs and I just put down my freezing trap and started to train, got him no problem. I was very exiced, definitly the most rewarding thing I have done in WOW.

Here's a relink to the updated Petopia article:
http://petopia.brashendeavors.net/html/articles/tameguide_LBRSworg.shtml
I just did this as a 56 NE hunter, never did LBRS before trying the worg tame. I watched the invaluable vids on YouTube a few dozen times to learn the pathing and technique, and (as an alchemist) brought a ton of invis pots -- but only used 3 to reach the pat area (village, spiders, ogres). That was plenty easy. As a marksman, however, I wiped a few times on taming the beast before I tried what was my successful strategy:
1. **Respec to Survival** -- This made all the difference! With Clever Traps and Trap Mastery I was able to freeze the raider for 19.5 sec as opposed to 15, giving me precious time to kill the first worg and later to trap the raider while taming my pet.
2. Bring AC, stam-, and agi-enhancing items and gear: I used food, elixir of superior defense, and elixir of mongoose; and wore an assortment of generally basic monkey gear. Used Aspect of Monkey and Deterrence which allowed me to dodge a couple hits, but even then my health was severely low when the tame completed. I didn't even have time to use a heal potion, let alone feign, when the raider unfroze and killed me. Still, I got my worg and Bite 8, Howl 4 at lvl 56! Hopefully you'll stand up better to the beating. :P
Other tips worth mentioning and/or repeating from other sources:
1. Do have beast track on before you run past the ogres, and time it for when the pats are heading back up the steps away from you to avoid possibly running head-first into them.
2. There are scarabs/scorpids at a crumbling wall before the hallway with the pats, and they *did* aggro on me when I stopped at about the same spot I saw in the vids. I recommend getting tight up to the doorway or feigning on the steps.
3. Be mindful of the space you have in the hallway while setting up your trap; a second patrol stops into the hallway from the west side and could aggro on you.
Good luck and good hunting!

I'm a level 57 marksmanship night-elf hunter (Tristessa from Azune) and I just tamed this little bit of dynamite in Blackrock Spire with a balance druid level 58... Here's how in case it helps you:
- In Stormwind I found an alchemist friend to make me 5 lesser invisibility potions, and two swift ones (I didnt actually even use the swift ones in the end - but good to get if you can). I bought a defence potion. I also stocked up on health potions and meat pet food. I stabled my current pet.
- I flew to the Burning Steppes and tamed a temporary Ember Worg level 57.
- I watched the above video several times of a guy taming a worg, and made a map of his route and tactics (i.e. where you can safely stop).
- I grouped with a balance druid of the same level, he was able to use cat form to sneak in all the way through Blackrock Spire to the worg area to give me extra support when taming the worg. (He found it a little difficult sneaking past the spiders near the beam, but other than that it was ok).
- I followed the video's tactics exactly, using aspect of the cheetah combined with lesser invisibility potions, and if noticed/potion faded, feign death and aspect of monkey to get through the tougher areas. When resting I used shadowmeld (night elf ability).
- In the worg area, there is one female orc with two worgs who patrols near the door you enter by (just after the scorpions). My druid friend cast Force of Nature (trees) on the orc and I killed one worg. We then were left with only one worg alone attacking us. I frost trapped him once to buy time to use a health potion and dismiss my temp pet, then I frost trapped him a second time and tamed him.
So that's how, many thanks to my lovely druid companion, now let's see how this little beastie likes hordie meat - it's BG time! ;)

i am soo thankful for these guides to tame this amazing pet. i just tamed him today, and i love him. if u follow the guide u will not only keep from gaining any unwanted experience (i was 2 bars from 60, and i dont want to lvl), but it is also very specific and helpful for taming this pet.
i only wanted the bite rank 8, but after taming him i couldnt keep him in my stables, and i may have to use him more now. he is definately the most difficult pet i have ever tamed, and i tamed rak'shiri, a beautiful cat in winterspring that is not only elusive but guarded by hordes of deadly stealthed cats.
if you are looking to tame this pet i suggest using the above posts. amazing.
oh and if you guys have any other tameable pets that are hard to catch or was a story, plz tell me. i love a challenge. heres my story:
i followed the guide, and after about 5 wipes i finally got to the worgs, where i almost died killing the two pats he was with. then as i tamed him, i noticed my health was VERY low, and i had my health pot timer on. soooooo......as there were about 5 seconds left in the tame, and my health being very low, he misses, (thank god), and as i tame him his last hit before becoming mine kills me. BUT.....i still got him. can never let go of a pet that puts that much effort to kill his master. :)

1) I have heard that these Worgs are brown and not black like the DireWolfSkinDarkBlack says it is, is this true?
2) If so I would like a pic if anyone has one
3) and what level are they? i know it says 51-57 but its been wrong b4
Thanks for the help :)

I had tried numerous times to sneak past the sleeping orc section (just before the spiders) using invis potions, but I always got aggroed, even at level 60. I eventually gave up. I'd been in numerous LBRS groups, but the group always got wasted at the same section or some died and the group disbanded. I considered it a lost cause and gave up. The other night I joined an LBRS group and we made it all the way to the bloodaxe worg patrol. A group member put one of the worgs to sleep for me and I walked up and tamed it without so much as a scratch. I was so happy! After so much struggle and feeling like I'd never get Bite 8, I finally got my prize. This pet comes with Furious Howl 4, Bite 8 and Dash 3.

Does anyone have a picture? I'm guessing the black skin looks just like the common worgs, but I would like to see what the brown looks like. Thanks!

Hey
Here a couple of things I learned so far as a newbie Hunter :
- The Bloodaxe Worg is wanted by Hunters as a pet mainly for the following exclusive high level abilities:
Furious Howl 4
and
Bite 8
So these high level abilites can only be learned from the Bloodaxe Worg.
Now the following took me a while to figure out, but all pet families (in this case the Wolf) have the exact same stats, including DPS. Some used to have differences like shadow damage instead of physical damage, but all these have been patched and normalized so everything is the same.
The only exception to this is attack speed. Some pets from the same family have slower or faster attack speed, generally faster attack speed is better. Even tho the base DPS stays the same because slower pets hit harder per hit, faster attack speed means more reliable agro for tank pets, more crits = more dps and more caster interrupts in PvP.
Long story short, even tho the Bloodaxe Worg has a faster than average attack speed of 1.5, there are several wolves with even faster attack speeds. And the 2 wolves with the fastest attack speed of 1.2 are Deathmaw and Slavering Worg.
So to create the very best Wolf you need a Deathmaw or Slavering Worg as your main pet and tame a Bloodaxe Worg to learn the Furious Howl 4
and Bite 8 so you can pass it on to your Deathmaw or Slavering Worg.
Voila, hope this helps anyone that wants to have the best of the best Wolf pet :p
p.s. If you don't like the looks of the Worgs, there are fine alternatives as well, for example the Prairy Wolf Alpha, Ghost Paw Alpha and Mist Howler, with attack speeds between 1.3 and 1.4.

I gotta share my tale of woe here. I couldn't find an LBRS group so I spent 2 hours and 6 lesser invis pots getting to the first patrol that has these in it, right after the bugs but before the wolf boss. I managed to tame one of the wolves and died right as I tamed it. At first I thought I didn't get it at all, but I was overjoyed when I rez'd and found that I had it. Unfortunately, it had NO SKILLS. NONE. I used beast lore and moused over the tooltip and the tooltip declared that it should know Bite 8, Howl 4, and Dash 3... but it has nothing. I just spent a few hours getting it to loyalty level 4 and 1 actual level to 57 and nothing changed. I declare this wolf tragically broken and 2 hours of my life gone.
Bug? Intended? Who knows... but now I need an LBRS group or more invis pots and patience.

Just wanted to share my experiences in attempting to solo tame one in Classic.
First, watch the videos on Youtube. Most of the Classic experience is exactly the same. However, I did find that there's a pull of an orc that I've seen done before the hallway of orcs, which doesn't need to be done. You can just time it so that it and the 2-mob patrol are passed, jump down, Invis pot and run to the other end of the hallway.
The next challenge I had, was getting the Smolderweb pull done correctly. My first few attempts were made with a cat using Prowl. DO NOT USE PROWL. The problem is that it would sneak past the first few spider mobs and not aggro, nor would they aggro as I tagged Smolderweb and sent my cat back down towards orcs. This meant they aggro'd to ME instead. Leave prowl off, target Mother and send your pet. As soon as you send it, target the left-most spider in the group leading up the path. Once your pet hits Mother, re-send at that spider, and then re-send AGAIN to an orc at the bottom as you start to run up. Once you get up, stay towards the right of the beam or you aggro the group on the left. I finally realized that by timing it correctly, I could run past the spiders going down, scatter the one on the beams, feign, invis again and run up to the Ogres.
After all that, turns out you can also just pop another lesser invisibility potion and run right through them... go figure.
Some videos show spiderlings all the way up the path through the cave, but I've found that after the first group over the beams, there aren't any others, so you can use a Lesser Invis pot to get past the spiders.
Instead of jumping up the wall to the ogres, I just sent my cat in to distract and ran the corner and Feigned again. In Classic, the can be a scorpid in the hallway itself, so using the strategy that Raziya shows in their video of pulling the worgs and raider at that point won't work unless you decide to zerg that one down, feign and start from there. At this point, you can use the hallway as they show, or move up to the stairs and do it there.
Make sure you give yourself the maximum distance you possibly can on the pull. Concussive and Scorpid Sting as mentioned above, with Aspect of the Monkey on, and start the tame IMMEDIATELY. Stamina food is a bonus if you can. Remember: You get ONE shot at this at this point, without having to leave and go tame another temporary pet (remember, you abandoned yours :( already). Even as a T2-geared hunter, without being at max range it took every bit of my 4k health pool to get the duration of the tame off. Also, remember that most of the time when taming, it takes another second AFTER the tame cast finishes for it to fully take.
Lastly, I can only offer that you really do need to plan out any pet sacrifices and pathing. The more mobs that end up on you, the greater the chance of a FD getting resisted, and then you're dead and starting at the beginning again. This happened to me multiple times, initially on the spiderlings, and then in my first attempt to clear that lone scorpion. I killed it, and got resisted. Thankfully it was cleared when I got back up again.
All that aside: You CAN use strictly invisibility potions to make your way up to the top. However, unless you are able to put a ton of burst damage out, you'll still want to at least have a temp pet for the killing of the first worg in the pat at the top. You can pot for the hallway, then another past the first part of spiders, then feign at the top, wait for the cooldown and another pot past to the ogres. You can wall-jump by the ogres if you time it right. Grab your temp pet, clear the 2nd worg, feign, abandon and tame on the next attempt, and keep your fingers crossed!
