This is the bonus boss who's found in the mushroom area of heroic Ahn'kahet.He has about 450k health and spawns mushrooms everywhere. Some are good, some are bad. Getting exploded by the bad ones gives you a DoT. A good mushroom increases your damage, and removes the debuff from the boss. The boss uses an ability that reduces defense by 500 and causes you to get crushed/crit constantly. This is very difficult to heal if the tank is getting hit by the debuff constantly, as heroismed 8k noncrit healing wave spam was barely keeping the tank up though 11k crushes and 14k crits.

Edit: This fight has changed quite a bit since beta, he no longer spams mini on the tank, it's easy to see and has a long cast time. The mushrooms are also much larger and less plentiful (and thus one consecrate won't wipe out 8 of them) and don't move in and out of the ground constantly.

It's pretty easy now, just tank him, don't kill bad shrooms, and save your tank a healthy shroom so he can remove mini right away.

The important thing to note in this fight is that you want to stay near the healthy mushrooms. When you get the debuff, "Mini" which is cast by Amanitar himself, melee swing and hit one of the healthy mushrooms. That will decurse the mini. Pally tanks can also bubble out of it if they so choose.

Mini itself is will reduce your defense by 500, indeed, and decreases your damage output by 75%. It is not from the poisonous mushrooms, but is a spell he casts with about a 2-3s cast time. Non-interruptable. The poisonous mushrooms may cause the mini debuff as well, but that was not what we were seeing.

The basic strategy we used, was to tank him on top of a set of mushrooms so the melee and the tank were near healthy mushrooms. The healer / ranged DPS stood near one as well. Whenever we'd get mini, we'd smack our mushrooms and run to new ones. Tanks need to make sure not to turn your back while you run, obviously. Remember, just as stated above, no special attacks on the mushrooms or you won't get the cure.

Also, avoid using ANY AE abilities as I seem to recall my consecrate last night destroying all the mushrooms around me.

I can't figure this boss out. He seems to randomly target people, but without any sort of aggro drop. He killed my all the dps one at a time, even though the tank was miles above on threat.

Does it depend on the mushrooms in some way? There was no AE, but he'd still target dps and the healer at random, so much to the point the tank's taunt CD couldn't keep up.

Death knights: Use Anti-Magic Shell just before Mini hits and you'll be immune and won't have to go hunt mushrooms.

Run around and kill 4-5 healthy mushrooms as the fight starts and unload on Amanitar. Watch him die in 10 seconds due to you doing 20k dps. The damage buff stacks.

Rogues - be careful, Cloak of Shadows removes the 100% damage increase debuff. It also removes Mini. Use it at your own risk.

I have a mage and it appears to me that he must have a melee hit to get any buff or even cure mini. We wiped 3x, so trust me its true. Killing a healthy mushroom with a spell to cure mini does no good unless you have hit it with a melee first. Good luck. Dont get pwnt.

I am a priest. I used Shadow Word: Pain on a healthy mushroom each time I had Mini. Maybe I right clicked it to target it, but it worked. I never did white damage to a healthy mushroom.

I had a glitch while tanking this guy. I must have hit multiple mushrooms at once and had the buff stack on me multiple times, because as a prot pally, my dps went up to 12.2k. My consecration was ticking for 9500, I was getting white crits for 39k, and my Shield of Righteousness hit for over 95,000.

Stack on a Healthy Mushroom. Kill all the poisonous mushrooms in the vicinity to avoid the AOE damage from them.

When the boss uses "Mini" kill the Healthy Mushroom and everyone nearby will have the effect removed.

I'd like to add that the healthy mushroom 100% damage buff seems to be a threat wipe - every time I (the tank) killed a healthy mushroom for the damage buff, the boss ran off and attacked someone else!

Personally i think the easiest hc boss is the prince from earlier on in the instance that guy was just free easy loot for my group. Although this boss is easy if your group knows what your doing. Good healer and tank required in case of badly placed minis.

More of a fun fact: The mini debuff has an unlimited duration. If you end this fight with the mini debuff on, it is automatically removed from everyone present at that time. If you have a pet out during this encounter, and it gets the mini debuff, try dismissing it for the remainder of the fight. All debuffs on your pet are memorized by the server, so when the boss dies, and your pet isn't there, the mini debuff is not removed :D

What this means is that you'll run around with a super-cute mini pet (Felhunter in my case) as long as you or your pet don't get killed ^.^ I managed to keep my pet mini for a few hours untill I got killed in Halls of Lightning!

Now this also makes me wonder what happens if you heartstone out during the encounter... I'll test that next time I'm there :)

EDIT: Confirmed that if you heartstone out with the debuff you will remain small (it's actually smaller than the Noggerfogger shrink), too bad the stats reduction doesn't make it worth it appart from Dalaran lurking :(

Ok. I did this wrong not knowing the fight as as the tank got the 'Mini' debuff and lived until the end. The debuff lasts through zoning and logging off.

It also does NOT stack with baby spice.

a more apropriate example would be the spore bats in zangermarsh, if u kill them at melee range, u get a 30 stat buff that lasts 5 minutes. the mushrooms work the same way.

I just finished doing this boss, and can anyone confirm a recent change to the encounter? It seemed that for me (tanking) whenever I killed a mushroom I would gain 200% increased damage as per usual, but it would only stack once and as soon as I killed a mushroom I would instantly lose aggro on the boss even though on Omen I had a substantial lead on everyone else furthermore, the buff would not stack past one, meaning I could no longer stack it up to ridiculous amounts of damage.
Dispelling mini worked the same, but killing a mushroom would instantly lose me aggro and the buff would no longer stack.

Just a little note; If your weapon skills aren't high enough (talking about casters), Healthy Mushrooms CAN parry your attacks. I don't know the logic behind that but it parried my attack twice :(.

I discovered the stacking nature of the Potent Fungus quite by accident...!

Being an arcane mage, I started the fight by popping all of my cooldowns, including Mirror Image. My images, being the enterprising sort, immediately decided to nuke down all of the mushrooms around me ...

Imagine my surprise when I checked recount to discover I'd done 10k DPS. Thank goodness that MI also reduces threat...!

Also, another reference to this guy's name could be to the enemies in Chrono Trigger called Amanita. They are mushroom-like attackers.
