Drop rate must be wrong on this. Whenever I am farming these guys it is more like 1 in 5 drop the mote (of which there is only 5), however it does usually drop 2 motes.

Hey. The Rotting forester-rager are not the right mobs to farm the mote of Life, the right mobs are Infested root-walkers wich are smaller in sice. it is not even right picsure of the mobs. I will add one soon as I can. The drop rate is not accurate, it is not 83%.

The drop rate is 19% chanse it will drop the Mote of life and
9% with herb gathering, wich means you have to be herbalist if you want to harvest them.

P.S. I want to add to those who don´t know how to turn 10 motes of Life in to Primal Life, it only need one right click on them will do :)

Right on these guys most of the time they drop nothing but the smaller tree guys do drop it at a much better rate...2 at a time also

Wowhead only records how often it drops out of everything, so 80% of the time they drop the motes.

Ok, this is how the wowhead system works... People download the wowhead looter (a mod for wow they have created). This is both used for co-ordinates , and loot tables. Simply when you loot a mob in wow, it uploads what you have looted to www.wowhead.com/cata hence the "count" column. It doesn't interfere with the wow gameplay in any way so feel free to download it :) hope my comment helped. :)

These tend to drop 3 - 5 Motes of Life from those with the Herbalism skill. Beyond that, however, they almost never drop anything of value from simple killing.

Not sure how wowhead has incorrect data on this unless they used to drop motes back in the day =/

I often kill the Rotting Forest-Rager patroling right outside of the Allerian Stronghold. It has never dropped anything, and I have killed it atleast 100 times because I farm netherweb silk there. This forum says it has an eighty-five percent chance to drop a mote of life. I think this is not right or I am extrimly unlucky.

I hate you Blizzard! These guys used to drop the motes of life. Now they drop pretty much nothing. Now, I'll just ignore them and let them wander since they carry squat!

ja.... 75% drop rate my ass... I've been killing and killing these things and they drop nothing....NOTHING! A 2 TON TREE FALLS AND NO ONE IS AROUND TO HEAR.. does it drop a mote of life? HELL NO!

yes they exist. should say it exists (cuz there's only 1 or 2). check a few steps north east of Tomb of Lights.

they seem to only drop the motes when you're on the quest (the one where the tree explodes into maggots). who knows tho.

Well I can confirm they do drop while doing the quest, cause one dropped of a Rager while me and my friend were questing there. Though no more than the one dropped.

They DO drop motes , but you should be a herbalist to take this drop out.

There aren't too many of these, but I wiped them out real quick yesterday and they dropped 5 motes off 3 mobs. Not one mob didn't drop one. Not saying that's how it usually goes, but I got lucky I guess. The drop rate listed is probably about right.

And no, I wasn't on this quest you guys are talking about.

thought id give these guys a try dispite what was said about the drop rate, im not a herbalist and i wasnt on the quest, but after flying around a bit i killed 4 and got 1 mote, thats it, they didnt even drop any vendor trash,
i flew back and forth from just south of Grangol'var village, circling the edge of the wastes all the way to the spider ridge (forgot the name), and counted just 3 spawns
take the drop rate i had and the low spawns, plus all the time running around to find them and i think ill do my mote farming in zanger :/

confirmed they drop nothing. the lesser trees have a low drop rate though.

I know that as a herbalist, once these guys die and are looted, then I can harvest them as a herb. Just like the bog guys in Zangarmarsh. I get motes 1/3.

This drop rate is is off by about 40%. The actual drop rate should read around 10%. The reason that the reported drop rate is off is that these mobs don't drop anything most of the time. The addon used to gather this info doesn't count the kill when nothing drops from the mob so it only counts the times that motes or a grey item actually drops. 9 times out of 10 what drops is a mote but again that is only from 1 kill in 10. Again, a grey or a mote will only drop off these guys about 10% of the time.

Also there are sooo few of these mobs around that actually farming them is too time consuming for the actual amount of motes that you will get.

If you really want to farm and get a very decent drop rate (I farm about 100 motes an hour or more) go farm Bog Lords and Fungal Giants in Zangarmarsh. They also drop greys and whites that you can vender for up to 2g a stack and other stuff that you can put on the AH for a decent amount of cash.

If you want 'mote of life' go kill the bog giants in south-western zangarmarsh, they've had the best drop rate i've found.

I know theres a list of common and uncommon drops for this mob but I must have have killed 100 of these over the last few days while farming for Mote of Life from Infested root-walkers and always got nothing.

Just a quick not to save everyone some time, these do not drop Motes of Life anymore. In fact, they rarely drop anything of value. Head to Zangarmarsh for Motes of Life.

Not quite 50%, but still decent. Farmed 2 Primals in an hour. And you can herb them after loot, which can yield motes.

The problem is that I don't think Allakhazam mods register a 'loot' if the mob has nothing. So it's saying that of the times this mob has _something_, 54% of those times it will have a mote of life. But if the times where it has _nothing_ were counted it would be much, much lower. It's the same thing with Crystal Flayers and netherweave cloth.

Yes been killing these for a few hours nothing not even sure if this even drops anything at all go for the infested root walkers ...roound 30-40% drop rate 1-2 motes
