These mobs, and other Bog Giants, are "skinnable" by herbalists, meaning you can harvest herbs from them just like you would from a plant of Peacebloom or Golden Sansam. 310 herbalism skill is required, and the items that you harvest from the Bog Giant corpses vary from gray vendor trash, to actual herbs, to motes of life, and more. Higher herbalism skill may be needed for higher level Bog Giants. You do not gain Herbalism skill levels from "skinning" these mobs.

As of patch 2.1 Skinning these has a chance to drop a Black Lotus, Killed roughly 120 and have gotten 3 so far.

I'm a lvl 70 feral druid and I found these much easier to farm then the arcane elementals near Kirin'Var Village.

First off, they take damage from bleed effects which is REALLY useful for a druid. Pounce->Mangle->Rip and the bog lord is down in 10 seconds. When combined with the Essence Infused Mushroom (https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=28109), I never had any downtime. I stayed at 100% while grinding.

Secondly, they take damage from arcane (yes, arcane mages/hunters, that means you can go pewpewpew!) and have the same amount of health as the elementals in Kirin'Var.

Thirdly, they drop motes of life at about the same rate as most of mana from the elementals in Kirin'Var. (Which is good because mots of life are needed in huge amounts for some good leather healing pieces)

If your a herbalist, they also double as a "skinnable" creature like everyone else has said. Earning you extra cash.

Theres also hardly anyone farming them (at least on Barthilas), so you can plow threw them to your hearts content. Finally, they are trackable using Tallstalk Mushrooms (https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=25548) which you can purchase when your friendly with Sporeggar, or if your a hunter. Speaking of which, these bog giants/lords also give 3/15 Sporeggar rep respectively for each kill.

Hmm, they should change the rate on creep moss, it isnt 79% but more like 95%, ive been killing many of these and t drops nearly all the time

I just skilled herbalism up on a Withered Bog Lord from 329 to 330 and 330 to 331. Game crashed on me now, so I can't confirm how high it goes.

Best place ever for farming cash if you're an herbalist. After 1 hour, I vendored 40g worth of trash, 2 greens for another 10g, plus had 7 Primal Lifes (8-10 on Misha at the moment) and about 60 random herbs including Ancient Lichen and even a Black Lotus (counting both the drops and the fast respawn on the herb nodes there, Felweed, Dreamfoil, and Ragveil). Never got below 2 ticks on my health bar, never ate, never drank. Plus, other players were running around killing and not skinning these guys, so I had my work done for me in some cases.

If I remember right, these guys, as well as the Withered Giant, give Cenarion Expedition reputation if you haven't yet discovered the Sporeggar faction. After you discover Sporeggar they give Sporeggar rep instead of C.E.

herbalism at 320.........took me less than a week to farm an epic flyer,
with primal might alone i make about 15 an hour, plus all the beauiful herbs they drop
ancient lichen sells for about 25g a stack on destromath.
and plus thiers a great chance of blacklotus drops, which sell for about 500g a stack.

this was an average day not even a lucky day.

3 hrs of killing bog lord/giant(yes its boring but hey look at these payoffs)

5 motes every 20 mins=15 an hour
3hrs of farming without interuption 45 primal life
primal life is about 15g(on average with all servers)
45x15=675g

it doesnt stop thier
i got about 2 stack of ancient lichen which i sold for 50g
and in a 3 hr time i usualy get 20-25 black lotus maybe more or less depending on how lucky or unlucky i am
i made 1 stck(20) In 2 days(6 hrs of farming) since i only did 3 hrs a day couse if i did more id kill my self

lets add that up for 3 hrs of farming
motes=675g
ancient lichen=50g
and 10 black lotus (or if u did like me and sold once every 2 days in a stack)500g every 2 days

add that all up...and 6 hrs of farming these things=1950g

huge payoff right? well it is,

but im not going to lie to you 6 hrs of farming primals will make u want to shoot urself.

but if u find urself in real need of an epic mount or need serious cash fast than if u hardcore farm and entire weekend u can have it

end o story......

i nvr want to here a lvl 70 again say that its hard to make money, quit being lazy and lvl herbalism or mining,

btw wait tell 70 to do this. they drop like flys if ur 70 since they are only lvl 62ish, expecialy if ur a ferel druid

Im assuming that your math is off, cause you went from 5 motes in 20 minutes to 45 primals in 3 hours(15 primals/hr or 150 motes an hour) Im guessing you make about 5 primals in 20 minutes(which is great). Either way im dropping LW on my farmer and hitting up herb, at least its easy with a fast mount. :)

it seams so, I'v got 30 motes in about 1 hour but on my server the avarge price of Primal Life is 30-34g so it's very good source of gold :) epic flying mount in like 2 weeks ^^

Yeah, I don't know what the exact drop rate is but I'm guessing it's something like 10 percent now . . . sometimes you can kill quite a lot without getting any but then you'll see drops of 2x on two guys in a row. It's hard to say for sure what it is, but it's still orders of magnitude better than any other way of making gold I have (I neglected my professions until level 61)

these along with the giants are a excellent way to get herbs.
Not only do they drop the herbs as part of the loot but you can loot them again after if you are a herbalist and get more out of them.

I spent a couple of hours last night(while doing the missions) just "skinning"the bodies left behind by other players plus my own. Managed to get several stacks of herbs, plus plant parts, mote of life etc.

i herbed a Black lotus off of one of these. was farming them cause they had a lot of herbs and motes and it was a nice suprise!

update: jsut got ANOTHER black lotus off these...

they also give +15 faction with Sporeggar =D

they are located in the dead Mire loc 80, 45 in Zangarmarsh
