Not much harder than a normal elite besides his health. Note that he does a knockback attack though. If your Tank keeps aggro on him then he's no harder than a normal RFC pull really.

Make sure when your fighting him that your group members aren't dumb enough to stand on the edge of the ramp or platform.
Knockback into the lava can be a VERY painful death.

Interestingly enough, this fellow makes an appearance in Outland as well. The fel guard soldiers found in Auchindoun: Shadow Labyrinth function in the exact manner that this boss does, they have a knockback attack and they fear periodically.
Not really anything important but I found it interesting.

also note to be careful when you fight this guy because your in a room full of adds. kill both little "islands" of enemys near him or at least put some distance between you and them. also note that an orc patrols near him so before you pull him make sure this orc is dead since he makes this fight really hard for low level groups. stay NEAR the center of the island but not to close as its easy to steal agro off the tank on this guy.so tanks need to keep up taunts and other agro grabbers. as stated above. death by lava is very painful and humiliating just like this guys knockbacks. (please not that knockbacks do NOT have a level cut off because i run people through RFC all the time and get hit by it XD hopefully this helps. its a tank and spank basically besides the knockbacks.

Funny to note that he is not immune to sap and I assume other common crowd control effects, he's not even a boss, he's just a toughie'

Pretty simple, basic boss fight. He's got a nasty Knockback ability, and casts Fire Nova (An AoE Fire Spell), but otherwise isn't as tough as he looks.

the only abilities he uses is an uppercut (sends you vertically upwards) and fire nova (AE fire) so just keep casters back out of range of the AE and he is cake.

Guide to Taragaman The Hungerer:
Kill all pats aroudn the area by waiting infront of him, and wait to attack because this fight is NOT good with pats asa probablem tbecause yoru tank is msot likely a NOOB who doesnt know how to hold aggro on two thigns at once.
Im going to start off by saying ranged DPS is best or this fight, so I suggest bringign a mage for havy ranged DPS at this level, as ranged DPS will not be hit by fire nova, or if aggro is taken he will be decently far a way away, so Taragaman will not have the exact second to hit the mage intot he fire before tank can take aggro back.
Tanks: Make Taragaman have his back to one of the paths, and your back to one of the paths up, so if you are hit by a nock back you will not be thrown into the lava, a level 20 feral druid is a suggested tank as feral charge is usable in combat.
Healers: Just keep a HoT up on everyone a priest is suggest because bubble will block one lavas burst if they are hit into lava, a paly is mroely recomended.
DPS: I suggest staying where the tank is if your melee DPS, incase of knock back. Range you just do your thing.

Take at least 10 level 80's with you when trying to down this guy. He's a raid wiper for sure. His uppercut is not something to shake a finger at.

Most consider this boss to be the actual first boss in Ragefire, since Oggleflint is optional and is sometimes skipped. Drops an inpressive cape/bracers, and if you're really lucky, you may be able to obtain Cursed Felblade (https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=14145)!

His Fire Nova is a simple AOE that gives out fire damage to the group, but his Uppercut is quite impressive and should not be underestimated.

Easily solod as a 20 BM hunter in decent gear (a couple blues and BoAs) with a cat pet.

Just send your pet out, mark him, wait a second, then barrage him with whatever you've got. Mend your pet once he loses about 1/4 of his health, and unless you forgot to clear the guard pats this boss should fall just about as easy as the other enemies in the instance.

Wowhead says the drop rate of Crystalline Cuffs is higher than Subterranean Cape. But i soloed with my 24 Warlock but, Taragaman dropped Subterranean Cape three times and dropped no Crystalline Cuffs.

Be careful of his knockback attack. Once, the tank got sent flying into the lava. Tank him in the middle, don't pull him near the edges.

He's not the final boss of RFC (although he's sometimes considered as such) nor is he the leader of the Searing Blade. He's just a brute used as both a guardian and a bait to keep adventurers off the real leaders.

If you're into lore, you'll know Felguards were never famous for ther brains, and thus a Felguard being a leader of anything (except a regiment of soldiers) is unlikely anyways. The brains of the Legion are mostly Eredars.

I recently soloed this one with level 19 incomplete alliance mage twink (i got 19 from trash mobs) because of https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=14148 - great twinking item. It took a long time to get to him through all the trash mobs, and even longer to get trough Orgrimmar (i ran till the guards killed me, and then i ressed the farthest i could, then repaeted). When i finaly killed him, he dropped cloak instead of bracers. Even though I will try to get these bracers until they drop. :) So for people trying to get this great twinking item, yes, it is soloable with incomplete twink mage :)

just soloed this guy with a 15 human rogue. this was my second rfc run. in the first a hunter nedeed on the cloak. this time i was really determined to get it. so i got in and an ideea popped in my mind. since last time i tanked the place. i could probably stealth to boss and solo it. i stealthed through and sapped what was nedeed. my group was left behind. i had to kill some trash like 2 elementals (they have fire shield ) and 1 burning blade orc. then sap everything else. once i was at boss there is a patrol have to be careful not to aggro him. my buffs were well fed 6 , sharpened 2 2x, scroll of agi +5, motw 65 armor 2 attributes, strong trolls blood elixir, lesser strenght +4 elixir and the buff from being in a random dungeon group +5% dmg. my gear venerable dal rends crusader, thrash blade crusader,thick bronze darts,braided copper ring, tigerseye band,winter boots +7agi,embossed leather pants,ceremonial leather belt,cracked leather gloves +15agi,cracked leather bracers 9str,shadowcraft chest +3stats,linen cloak +3agi,stormshroud shoulders,malachite pendant,flying tiger goggles, my spec was 4/5malice 2/2 sinister strike. so i went in spammed SS throw a bomb,used a bag of marbles,evasion, expose armor used a level 12 healing potion and he was dead. :) my group was surprised they completed the instance so quick and they got the sack of spoils. i also dinged as he went down. also some tips: when he does fire nova move, and watch out for his kick, he can kick u in the lava.

The interesting thing is, in-spite of his title, elite tag and actually having a name Taragaman the
Hungerer is actually the weakest felguard ever, including that of the average warlock pet

We killed him with 3 warlocks (the highest lvl was 19).
Our voidwalkers tanked him and we DPS , heal your voidwalker and use healthstones to heal yourself. It was not easy but we did it.

Soloed as 17 lvl rogue - it's pretty easy fight, just get lesser healing potions, sap the patrolling add, kick fire nova and dont forget to use evasion when dangerous.

Rogue was full heirloomed, but still - soloable at low lvl.

Blizzard, you took our beloved Deadmines and ripped it to shreds in Cataclysm, you stomped on the classic Shadowfang Keep. Now if you EVER change Ragefire Chasm, I will never play WoW again.

My priest friend and I ran in here today, and were planning on having a pet battle with Taragaman the Hungerer as one of the pets, but he is now classified as demon. So he cannot be mind controlled. :(

But! you can mind control Trogs and throw them off the ledge! (many laughs, and hopefully a win at screen shot of the day)

Solod this guy with my 21 feral d00d for the cape. I got the cape first time but this guy wasn't easy. My stuff was all greens nothing special really, 750hp (850 bear). I dotted him with faerie fire then tanked him in bear. Bash him then heal warstomp then heal... the long heal is the best + most mana cost effective but his irrating knockback ability can make this dangerous. Not an easy kill basically but certainly doable.

Advanced newbie strategy in case you have no idea what to do with this boss:

Rogues: Sinister strike/ambush/backstab to 4 or 5 combo points, rend armor, sinister strike for a point, slice and dice, sinister strike to dead. Kick every time he trys to cast fire nova.

Why not use rupture? Armor removal helps your tank do damage too.

Mages: Use frost. He is fire resistant.

Warlocks: Use shadow and dots but no immolate. Fire resistant. Use voidwalker with taunt off.

Druids and warriors: Keep rend on him. Dots, including bleeding dots, hit past his heavy armor.

Shamans: Use earth shock rather than fire shock.

Hunters: Turn your pet's growl off!

Hopefully this will reduce the number of rfc wipes. ;)

Did it with 18 ret pala (me) 18 mage and 14 shaman.
I was tanking, mage dps and shaman dps/heal when needed.
Did go very well, just interupt his fire nova and thats it.

I have done this 3 times now, all 3 times he had the stupid sword. Trying to get gear for a priest so obviously its useless to me. Anyways either I have bad luck or thats his common drop.

It's a lvl 47 2h sword called warmonger. I bought it off of the AH. Not sure where it drops ATM

went into RFC with my level 14 or 15 warrior came out with a new wep. cursed felblade 1 st drop and then went into WC and got worn turtle shell shield, I think im lucky because got another 20g of a raptor dropping the recipe for deviate delite! anyway felblade works well with worn turtle shell shield/kresh's back

Nothing better than going back here at like lvl 30, and soloing him nekkid and unarmed. I really like fighting him. One of my favourite enemies in the game, especially if the whole group is lvl 14ish. He seems tough then.

Soloed as a level 20 Tauren Hunter. Taragaman got me the first time, as my pet couldn't pull him away. 2nd time, he aggro'd the pet the whole time, easy to pick him off from a distance. After you follow the main passage to the area with all the troggs, bear to the right, take the passage closest to center, heading up the ramp...it'll lead you to him.

Solo'd on my 19 twink Lock. Super easy. Didn't even have to bubble. Trying for the bracers, but the sword dropped.
