Well if its not live then how are the gems available for sale in the auction house, they must be around some place.
the alchy trainer does not offer it, and nor does any vendor near by sell any patterns.

Yes true the gems are available in AH, but it's not couse of alchemy, you have a chance to get them from a mote sold by a vendor found in Dragon Soul raid. The currency for that item drops from bosses for everyone, only from normal raids tho, not the LFR ones.

The gem is live and can be cut by JCs but Alchemists cannot transmute them. I would guess that Blizz decided that if they make this transmute live it would reduce the number of people raiding DS
