It is awesome that Blizz is doing something nice. But, to be the downer post, they could have changed the pattern or colors a bit. This guy looks exactly like 角鹰兽宝宝.
Now you can get a pet that looks exactly like it for less than 1/4 of the price.

I had been kind of wondering if Blizzard would do something like this with the loot card items. After all, most go for a fair amount on Ebay, some well outside of most peoples willingness to pay. It makes sense that Blizz would see this demand. Personally I like it, and I have a few lucky pull loot cards, including the Hippogryph Hatchling. If they decided to put more of the older loot pets and mounts in the store I'd gladly get a few of them. I mean I'd love to have the Magic Rooster mount but I don't want to plunk down $200+ on Ebay for it. It'll piss a few people off sure, but if Blizz waits til the set it out of production and sold out, plus a little time in addition, I think it'd work for most.

This is the new Cenarion Hatchling pet from the Blizzard Store, found at the links below. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross charity in aid of the Japan earthquake crisis.

Gotta say, this feels kind of like a slap in the face to those of us who do buy the TCG cards to get the loot cards...Sucks to spend all that money on packs/booster boxes back when the set came out just to have Blizzard hand it out for 10$ 2 years later...

Though I'm 100% for helping Japan, as they do need it right now, just wish Blizzard had put a little more thought into it and given a new or unique pet...or at least re-skinned the darn thing so it wasn't the EXACT same as the one i spent 10x times the amount on.

The fact that this is 100% going to donation to the American Red Cross and the relief efforts in Japan makes it worth the $10. I did it back when they released the 熊猫人僧侣 and gave the proceeds to donation. This will also match my 塞纳里奥作战角鹰兽.. now to finish Cenarion Circle reputation.

Just got mine. Japan is going through their own Cataclysm, so even if you don't like pets, donating by 'adopting' one is the right thing to do.

Having purchased 4 of the Hippogryph cards, I completely disagree with you.

I bought 4 because I wanted it on my main, which kept switching. It is in my top 10 favorite pets. It was annoying to have to spend 40-60 bucks for a SINGLE pet. Making it available through the pet store was *awesome*. I like that it looks just as good as the card one. Also, the set that had that card has been out of print for 2+ years, meaning to purchase price is just going to go up on the cards.

As for it being a "slap in the face" really anyone who buys a virtual item and expects it to always ever be a rare thing deserves it. Blizzard could shut the servers down tomorrow, and we would have nothing to show for our purchases of the cards AND the pet store pet. I spent my money knowing that they could (and actually agreed they should) offer it as a pet on the pet store. I hope they do it with all the other TCG pets and mounts too. This coming from the owner of a Spectral Tiger. At least through the pet store some of my money gets donated to charity, the rest goes to the developer, as opposed to some random dude on eBay that bought several cases of cards. Not only that, but *every.single.one* of my characters gets the pet, as opposed to having to buy a card for each character I want to have the pet.

The donation to Japan, is just a wonderful bonus.

(Edit: Trying to reply to TruSinner... o.0 Also you say you spent 100 bucks on the tcg card... which means learn to shop around. I have never paid more than 60...)

Also, that just means if it took a caring company 2 months to finalize renaming a pet, they probably need a better committee that can get decisions done faster.

I'm guessing you missed the part where I typed about work orders. Either that or you don't comprehend how even an urgent work order doesn't get done overnight. Try working for a really large company that employs thousands of people in one area some time and you'll see what I mean.

Giving to foreign companies other than certain companies in Canada and Mexico voids out tax return bennefits. Once again, there I go assuming you had read the body of my reply.

Does a webmaster get paid every single time he updates a website? Does the billing and transaction departments get paid extra commission for selling more? Usually, they don't. They already have these employees and they usually get paid by salary not base salary + commission for each item sold/changed.

Once again, this relates to the work order part about my post which you skipped. It will still cost them money if they are already tasked with something and get pulled to do something else. Common sense would dictate that if something unforseen, regardless of what it is with a large company happens, it usually costs the company money in some fashion.

Your original post was a tad bit more negative than that, and now that you've had time to research how charity works on the internet your tune changes slightly. Yes, it can be rolled over, but the chances of an audit increase with that. No company wants to roll over on chump change to have someone come in and question if their poop stinks or not. Not worth it.

As of 4.2, they've changed the appearance of this pet by forming the beak into more of a point, instead of the 'bulbousy' looking beak previous to 4.2, and rounding out the eye's edges so it doesn't have that old 'diamond' shape.

Hatchling Sales Soared
So apparently the Cenarion Hatchling sold over $1.9 million USD worth of pets--that's almost 200,000 little guys and their generous owners! All of it went to charity as well, helping the victims from the Japan natural disasters.

The new shape to me, is not nearly as cute. Tho it would have been nice if they had used that to differentiate this from the hypogryph hatching. I mean why go to all the trouble of changing the model and not make it different from each other? a color change would even be as simple but not even that. I too, bought both pets, and grats to Japan, but recycling artwork is just laziness on blizzard parts. I mean if someone gave you a trophy and turns out it was someone elses recycled trophy, would you feel special?

I'm not sure when it happened, but they changed the beak. It's now slimmed down instead of larger like a dodo's. When I took my hatchling out today I couldn't place why it looked different until I looked at old photos. If you compare older pictures to newer ones, you'll see what I mean.
