Could possibly be seen as a defensive trinket in pvp but it seems doubtful overall.

More realistically seems as though this will be a tanking trinket. With a minute cd and 10 seconds of activation, this seems roughly equivalent to Anti Magic Shell, giving non dk tanks an easily usable cd for high magic damage boss fights.

The mastery will be an added bonus for tanking classes considering all tank mastery are geared towards survivability.

This will be an amazing trinket for certain class/spec/team combos in arenas, specifically 2v2 melee/healer or 3v3 double melee healer or PHD where a particular party member tends to be focused as the "weak link" of the comp. Many classes benefit from mastery in PVP so the stat isn't bad by any means, and 400 resistance on top of MOTW/resistance aura/etc will be huge to cause clutch silence or other spells to resist if the opposing team is bursting. I will certainly be wearing one of these in 3s alongside the standard PVP trinket.

PvP aside this is also really good for tanks. Mastery is a very good stat for paladins and warriors, I'm not sure how good it is for druid or DKs but even if it's bad it can be reforged. And the resistance CD is really useful in a lot of situations on many different bosses. 400 resist can mitigate a lot of a dragon's breath.

The use effect stacks with mark of the wild/blessing of kings.

497 resist = an average of 45.83% less damage taken.
400 resist = an average of 40.51% less damage taken.

As a shaman with Elemental Resistance Totem / Glyph of Healing Stream Totem, this stacks to 595 resistances providing a damage reduction of 50.32% to Fire/Nature/Frost and 40.51% to Arcane/Shadow.

Both in PvP and PvE a huge asset, even given that all decent PvP casters currently always have at least 248 spell penetration using the the cloak + enchant.

Very tasty for Prot Warriors huge amount of mastery which turns into much desired 1/3 cut down on damage and critical block, then we have the cooldown which I'm sure will be needed at some point in hardmodes with all the dragons running around.

As previously stated, a pretty nice trinket for both PvE and PvP. For pvp, this isn't quite as good for some classes as it would be for others, but it will work wonders in a somewhat more casual setting where many players will not necessarily be gemmed with spell penetration. For PvE, this makes a good tanking trinket as mastery=block for both warriors and paladins, and is a defensive stat for other tanks as well. One fight in early raiding where this would help is Halfus (depending on drake setup), and another would be Maloriak, who has multiple abilities which can cause very high elemental damage.

This is an excellent tank trinket for Paladin tanks.

Divine Protection gives 20% damage reduction, 1min CD. If you place Glyph of Divine Protection, it becomes 40% physical reduction, 0% magic reduction.

Binding it with this trinket, however, allows Divine Protection to essentially become 40% physical AND magical reduction.

The only downside being that the magic reduction is not guaranteed, being resistance the damage taken may vary.

But damn... equivalent to a 100% boost to protadin's shortest tank CD!

Also, stacks with pallies' resistance aura for a grand total of 595 resistance (only applies to fire/frost/shadow)!

With the new healing model I'd say everyone should get this for PVE. Mastery is useful for everyone and on any fight where there's a lot of AoE damage flying around hitting this every cooldown will save healers a ton of mana and time spent healing.

It's not something I'd put on for every fight, but if it's an AoE/healing intensive fight this'd make things a lot easier.

Except for the fact that currently, mastery is absolute trash for boomkins (as int, haste and crit are all valued more). This might change with the buff to Total Eclipse in 4.0.6. Still it's a great tank trinket, and it has its situational role in PvP. For bears, pre-raid, it is listed as a tie for BiS with heroic Leaden Despair for the other slot.

smexy tanking trinket, as a DK we take a rather hefty amount of damage from spells; this should help to mitigate a large portion of that elemental & aoe damage.

The Mastery is also welcome, i'm trying to load up on mastery & haste - the mastery helps with physical absorbtion which we're great at, im already absorbing 10k-15k with each death strike.

Haste as a secondary stat on items is good, assides from increases the frequency of swings, (which proc B-CB more often, generating more RP for more Rune Strikes for higher threat gen) it also reduces rune cooldown time, allowing for more death strikes which means more absorbtion; it also requires the lowest amount of points per each 1% of haste, being around the 120-130 mark), whereas if memory serves me correctly, mastery/dodge/parry are all around the 175-185 mark.)

tl;dr - this thing is hot sh!t for dk tanks. <3

On top of normal damage reduction, don't forget its use in PvP against binary spells.

This makes you much more likely to completely resist certain spells like fear, death coil, some roots, etc.

Works great in nearly every new raid boss for tanks.
Halfus - Pop it when the time-lost isn't released and you cant avoid fireballs, or before his infamous, uninterruptable shadow nova right after staggering roar.
Valiona/Theralion - If people are stacking on the tank during blackouts, or stacking for a Theralion phase meteor, use it to mitigate a few thousand damage on yourself.
Conclave - Great way to avoid frost damage at Nezir, you can use it twice each time you're there because of its low CD.
If its a fight with less (or no) expected magic damage, I'd keep an extra avoidance trinket to throw on instead, the mastery itself wont live up to any of the other trinkets out there.

The on-use on this trinket is simple amazing. When I pop this with zero of a particular resistance (pally tank), my magic damage reduction goes from 0% to 40% (average). With resistance aura up, shadow/fire/frost magic damage is reduced by 50% (average, again).

In other words, the on-use is basically a glyphed Divine Protection. Exact same CD, similar magic damage reduction over the long run. It's perhaps not as good as glyphed DP since the damage reduction is not as predictable - sometimes 30%, sometimes 50% reduction - but we're talking about taking a very powerful magic damage reduction cooldown on a short CD and basically giving all tanks access to it (and pally tanks another of the same CD for free). On top of the ~4% block from the mastery....I think this is a must-have for any tank involved in serious progression raiding.

There's no RNG or loot distribution involved either, just a week and a half or so of TB dailies/battles (less if you do the extra dailies or participate in all of the battles), which makes this trinket even more appealing.

Just some exact protadin numbers in case anyone was interested:

This gives 1.79 mastery which is 4.03% block chance.
The on use effect is called 不朽之影
Unbuffed, this provides 40.51% average damage reduction vs. all schools of magic (except holy, of course).
With kings, that's 45.83% magic DR.
With a resist aura, that's 50.32% fire, frost and shadow DR.

Awesome tankadin trinket - and so easy to get!

Given the large amount of resistance on both, plus the benefit of raid buffs (as earlier posters mentioned,) it may be effective to chain it together with 完美之牙 to extend their benefit, or to stack them (which may give you fairly diminished value.) Chaining them together can cover you for a longer period of time with enough resistance to (hopefully) get a total resist, or at least a significant partial resist. They do not currently share a cooldown.

This is pretty much the BiS avoidance trinket for Prot Warriors right now. Which annoys the piss out of me, because I've had to spend two weeks doing TB dailies (not my favorite activity to say the least) to get one. But, I'm done, finally...

There will be better replacements in 4.2 when the 373+ trinkets come out (one has already been data mined, Gift of the Greatfather or something like that), but for now, if you are a Prot Warrior, get to grinding TB dailies.

Best in slot tanking trinket as of now for Cataclysm raids.

The use effect is like a second shield wall.
Nefarians crackle hits me for 50k with this trinket activated, normally thats 100k dmg.

Great for Blood DK's as they stack mastery this gives 1.72 mastery which is a 12% increase for blood shield
and the on use effect alternates almost perfectly with Anti-Magic Shell

While people say this trinket should be used for Nefarian during crackle (and this is true it will help at least for your first kill) this trinket should also be worn by the whole raid to simplify heroic Nefarian.

Popping it while you have explosive cinders being forced to jump in the magma will make it much easier on your healers since it'll also help against shadowflame barrages. And of course popping this durring crackle will also help in p3.

Also keep in mind if you're like me and you're an engineer this will share a CD with the synapse springs. so I wouldn't bind the /use gloves to abilities or watch for the explosive cinders CD so you're not putting it on a 15s CD when you get cinders.

Prot warriors... I'm wondering just how this trinket stacks or works with the talented Shield Block.

With the talent reducing all magic damage taken by 20%, and the trinket adding 400 (or ~40% redux) resistance, does this add up right to 60% magic reduction? If so, this is like a magic-only version of shield wall. Pretty hefty 1 min CD if you macro them together!

It does help with the overall AOE damage reduction in the raid to a certain extent, but if every one of you were told to farm for it and give up the other important stats for hardmodes then your healers obviously sucked.

As a blood dk, at Cho'gall fight it makes our healers comfortable. At Flames Orders i use AMS, and right after that at Shadows Orders which raid takes massive damage, i use this trinket. Great perk for those who is blood dk.

The point of this trinket and it's mastery rating is that it is a completely versatile trinket for every class. It's not going to be BiS for ALL classes, maybe not for any particular class for ALL fights. But the situational usage and the fact that all classes can benefit by increasing their survivability while maintaining moderate benefits to their DPS, healing, or mitigation...this is should be the highest in demand ilvl 359 trinket in the game.

not too shabby for a solo available trinket set. You have a lot of mastery -> block here (~~plus a little block boost from the strength while it's in effect~~), and the strength component is great for gaining the initial threat at the beginning of a boss pull.

EDIT: I guess there is no more block from strength? Looks like it contributes instead to parry =)

since 4.2 i cannot see this trinket working in pvp. paladin so by stacking resi aura i get 595 resistence. still getting the full effect of the spell. i dont know the math behind spell penetration but the 200 something cap is still low. anyone that can confirm this? or deny it?

Comes in handy on Baleroc if you're taking crystals and are a class without any other particularly useful mitigation abilities (like a rogue).

Still find myself favoring this over the new 378 trinkets on tanking (Warrior) many boss fights in Firelands.

-Beth'tilac's initial lava shower and her fire novas.
-Shannox. Not worth using here. You shouldn't be getting hit by magma rupture or traps.
-Rhyolith's fire trails (if you can't avoid one) and phase 2 AoE stomp. Also semi-useful for tanking sparks.
-Alysrazor's initial fire pulses and her painful re-ignition blast.
-Baleroc's Inferno Blade. Mirror use + shield block makes it extremely easy to heal. Useless against decimation blade.
-Staghelm's Flame Scythe. Use on the last scythe before form change for maximum effect.
-Ragnaros. Pop for magma trap triggering in phase one. Pop for molten seed explosions in phase 2 (Mirror and seed share same CD). Phase 3 is situational. Since meteors aren't deadly now, you could use it in an emergency if one explodes near or on you, or if you need to run through the lava.

Hoping an upgraded version of this will come along soon! Will probably still be using this trinket on Deathwing if not.

As pvp this trinket is fantastic. My tauren blood dk get lots of attention and this is great facemelter when im attacked by 2-3 enemys. A mage will get surprised often too.
