I'm currently using Cincture of Polarity, which is pretty awesome with the added belt buckle Gem slot. However with the upcoming changes with spirit for FFB Mages, maybe Cord of the White Dawn would be more favourable, assuming you're hit-capped ofc. I'm sure we'll get a better handle on these changes once 3.1 goes live.

Combine this baby with an Eternal Belt Buckle and put 2 times 19+spellpower gems in it combined with one runed dragon's eye (32sp):

As of 3.1.2, with Algalon loot still a bit on the MIA side, this belt seems to be the best for SP for most Casting DPS. Definitely a good investment of Spellweave and Ebonweave. 2 standard slots, with an extra slot from a Eternal Belt Buckle, loaded with 3 Runed Scarlet Ruby equals roughly 138 SP on the belt, which makes this belt the highest SP waist atm.

https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=40301 Is EASILY Far superior to Guzbah. It was the BiS for caster DPS pre-ulduar, and this is the REAL stepping stone up to Sash of ancient power.
I'd say, if you want to get a BiS and have a lot of cash.... Go with the sash. Otherwise, largemanBBs post can show you some decent belts that only cost either dkp or a lucky roll

I had this crafted last week and I'm very pleased with it. As an elemental shaman I will sometimes consider wearing cloth (or leather) in the belt and boots slots when the dps increase is significant. The Sash is a perfect example but before considering dropping down to a lower armor class do the math yourself (for ele shaman the EJ SEIC spreadsheet can't be beat) to be sure the drop in armor and the cost is worth it to you.

The sockets and the hit on the Sash allow for significant versatility in your other slots (perhaps ditch a hit trinket, use a slot to hit your meta, etc.). More than that the pure dps makes it BiS for me. Like I said though, don't take other people's word about items that may be BiS for you. Play with your stats at Chardev.org and plug those stats into the appropriate spreadsheet. It's the only way to really be sure what's BiS for you.

I highly doubt that Blizzard will make these expensive, high-iLevel items obsolete early in the next patch. I'm sure there will be better items but I expect them to be marginal upgrades and only from the later bosses. Also, keep in mind that 3.2 is still a long way off. I doubt we'll see it within 10 weeks and probably not that soon.

The cost of the belt is relatively high, but even after buying 2 pieces of T8.5 with emblems I still had enough by last week to buy two orbs with emblems. I spent a touch under 8k on the rest of the mats. Expensive but not horrible.

I had a Cord of the White Dawn crafted, because as a mage I'm already hitcapped from 4x conqueror's and some other gear, and as a firemage I benefit from crit. Both my gut feeling and Rawr tell me the Cord is a better choice in my case, because overcapping hit is bad mkay!

Since 3.2 this has become a lot more affordable and any serious raider should splash out on this while buying the other quick epic raiding gear such as titansteels (by titansteels i mean the sp weps not melee)

hell any experianced raider should be considering this aswell

It's worth noting (to the fashion-savvy players out there) that the sash looks more like Binding of the Dragon Matriarch, a boss drop from 10-man Razorscale, than Belt of the Darkspeaker, as is listed in "Same Model As."
