Is this better than DST wich is auto active after 20-40 secs CD? If i have to use it every 2 mins for an extra 100 haste I think DST is way more better.

Meera, there's one thing you miss here.
The Shard of Contempt was very good for melee DPS. It had a good proc, sure, but there was another reason it was godly, which many people miss, thinking the "proc made it awesome". It was the same reason it sucked for hunters. This thing is good for the exact same reason.

IT HAS CRAPLOADS OF EXPERTISE.

Expertise means you don't get dodged or parried. To get parried in a raid means +50% speed on the next attack, which is hard on a tank. Sure, that extra haste is nice, but it really is just icing on the cake. DST does not -COME NEAR- a whopping 69 Expertise. This one rocks and will be just as awesome many raids into LK, unless even-more-expertise trinkets surface.

And mobs, unlike players, can dodge from behind, making expertise an exceptional stat for melee DPS increase, up to the point where the mob's dodge rate is completely pushed out of the "hit chart".

As a blood Death Knight haste is one of the worst stats you can come by (worth about 0.5 attack power per haste rating) and while expertise is quite good (although vastly inferior to strength and hit rating), taking this trinket as a blood Death Knight if there is another class that actually wants these stats (for example, a Rogue) is just greedy.

Unlike other use-effect trinkets my rogue has used over the years this one got Spellsteal'd from me by a mage during wintergrasp pvp. I guess they had to make the buff "Magic" since it drops from the blue dragon aspect.

I think this trinket is pretty awesome for us Ret pals and , of course TG warrior as well. For you can hardly find enougth expertises in current plate armors. And the benefits of 491 haste rating will increase more and more as you update your equipments. The best trinket by far for ret pals and warriors, I think

It's become increasingly easier to reach the expertise dodge cap (26 skill, 213.1 rating, 6.50% dodge neglect before talents/racials) for melee DPS, especially strength users with rings like Ruthlessness, belts like Girdle of Razuvious, and expertise gems. Haste is a fairly iffy stat for some melee too, it depends on who you are.

It isn't a bad trinket for DPS, but the alternatives seem to be better, even for dual-wielders. That's up to you to decide though.

It is indeed a good trinket for a tank building a threat set. The current content is such a joke, a geared tank will not be looking for further survivability. They want threat, and lots of it, especially for a fight like Malygos where DPS is insane. It's very hard to get enough expertise to ignore parries, but this passive 69 expertise rating pushes a good chunk of parries off the combat table.

most rouges are probably gonna be skipping this trinket (myself included) as there are MUCH better trinkets out there and lots of them.

Worst case scenario is if you really need expertise which is where this trinket shines as it has ALOT of it but even then you get plenty of expertise from gear alone so should you actually need or find use for this thing then your probably bad.

I'd have to agree. While current itemization makes it fairly trivial to reach the expertise cap for leather-wearing classes, DPS plate and mail armor with expertise is quite rare.

one thing that hasent been adressed is that reaching the expertise cap for rogues especially combat but also mutilate, is somewhat less valuable than stacking ap or agility (darkmoon card greatness, fury of the five flights, mirror of truth, bandits insignia) and is less important at least for mutilate than reaching the poison hit cap (grim toll).

all in all for a rogue mark of norgganon is a poor choice

furthermore those of you discussing gemming to reach the expertise cap... for a rogue you are better off using your red slots for agility or ap than expertise, just a bit of advice.

DPS plate and mail armor with expertise is quite rare.

Non-leather melee gear with expertise.

The stat is actually a bit too plentiful for some of us. Blood needs 15 skill, Fury needs 18, Arms needs 22. Frost and Unholy need 21, but receive somewhat less benefit than Blood. Retribution needs the full 26, but Judgements can only hit, crit, or miss. Enhancement needs 26, but also has a significant spell damage component.

In addition, both Naxx25 2h maces carry large amounts of expertise, further exacerbating the problem of overloading the stat.

Your tanks not only can use expertise to an extent beyond the melee, but will *need* to push their TPS in upcoming content. The on-use isn't great, but it's still on-demand burst TPS.

This trinket should go to whomever needs it, be they tank or melee.

One of the biggest reasons this is best in slot for enhancement shaman(Even though only 50-60% of our damage is melee) is that haste doesn't suck for us unlike every other melee class.

With the right set of gear, haste even outvalues AGI and Crit, though it doesn't quite get to the value of AP.

Also, most of our best in slot items have no expertise, and reaching the cap without this trinket will be very difficult. If you're already capped, this trinket will let you regem for an additional 128-144 AP.

OK so this trinket is exceptional for both Prot Warriors and enhance shamans, however when making the decision by who should receive this trinket first you should take into consideration a couple of things. I am going to put foreward both sides of the argument so that people can see my logic and can also see why both classes would absolutely love this trinket.

Prot warriors need a very large amount of expertise in order to push parries off the table, the exact value is 14.25% or 57 expertise. 27 expertise is the dodge cap, however any tank worth his salt can EASILY attain this level with current gear available.

There are a few reasons why a Prot Warrior wants to hit the expertise cap of 57, obviously by reducing the amount of parries a tank receives from a boss the more Threat they will be putting out, currently on most fights this is a non-issue, however on fights like Malygos and likely of Ulduar encounters it is extremely important for the tank to pump out as much threat as humanly possible, as fast as humanly possible in order to avoid threat capping your DPS and there by being a hindrance. Also the use will increase our heroic strike speed, which makes up a very large part of our DPS and threat. So threat is definitely a good argument.

The second reason why tanks want to eliminate parries to avoid the "Parry gib", which became a common thing in later content for TBC. For the uninitiated a "Parry Gib" is caused when a slow, hard hitting boss parries your attack and gains a haste buff of anywhere from 40-60% (depending on how far the boss is through his swing), thereby causing the tank to take a large spike of damage, breaking the healing rhythm and there by killing the tank in short order. TBC examples of such bosses are Azgalore in Mount Hyjal and Teron Gorefiend in BT. Currently there are no bosses that are that extreme right now that a parry gib would be an issue, however for future content this may again become the case.

Unlike prot warriors or other plate/leather DPS gear, expertise is nearly non-existent on mail due to the gear being designed for both hunters and enhance shamans. The only places that an enhance shaman can get expertise currently is on tier pieces, gems and this trinket. Even gemming heavily into expertise they are still very hard pressed to reach the dodge cap. Why is this important? Because white damage makes up a large portion of enhance shaman DPS. If you look at a WWS of an enhance shaman their melee swing makes up almost 30% of their overall damage on an average fight (this fact also puts a high priority on hit rating, however with the white swing hit cap being close to 700 I would class it as unobtainable).

So far I have written two paragraphs on prot warriors and one on enhance shamans, does this means that prot warriors have a much more qualifying need for this item? Unfortunatly, for me, the answer is no.

I myself am a prot warrior and the reality of the situation is that I can achieve the expertise cap in other ways alot of Naxx 25 gear has expertise on it and using 40 Expertise/Stam food I can hit the expertise parry cap without sacrificing too much tanking stats. An Enhance shaman is not so lucky, with most of their gear being itemised towards hunters aswell, expertise is very hard to pickup.

At this point in time I would take this trinket only so that I could replace my Shard of Contempt and could then start using Strength/Stam or Crit/Stam food instead of Expertise/Stam food, thereby raising my threat and DPS by a slight amount. As for enhance shamans this would add a very substantial upgrade to their DPS and gear flexibility. Yes this would be a nice bit of threat, but as a prot warrior the expertise cap can be achieved easily via other mediums.

At the end of the day it boils down to the fact that the shaman is there to DPS, the warrior is there to tank. Considering the boost this would provide to an enhance shamans DPS, by allowing them to cap their expertise and in some cases regem their gear, any tank worth his salt would pass this to an enhance shaman.

EDIT: With the changes coming to Enhance shamans next patch I still stand by the fact that this trinket should go to your Enhance shaman first, however a prot warrior taking this over an enhance shaman is perfectly justifiable. I would reccomend if you are prot warrior and want this trinket over an Enhance shaman you discuss it with them and your guild officers before it drops. Nothing creates drama like tanks taking perceived DPS gear.

Pretty sexy for an Enhance Shaman imo. with full Valorous and some of the best non-set gear in the game, my expertise is a mere 82. haste will also benefit me greatly when im low on mana and i pop Shamanistic Rage. i could probably go from oom to full in 5 seconds.

so, if you other people are iffy on whether u want this or not, show some love for the enhance shaman. ;)

So, as a TG warrior, I had my doubts about this trinket before rolling on it. Everywhere I read, people recommend a combination of the Greatness deck, Mirror, and/or Fury trinkets. It was a little funky trying to balance my hit cap and expertise cap (after equipping this item), but I managed.

And this trinket is freaking sweet.

It is literally like having your own mini-bloodlust on your own cooldown, every 2 minutes. I mean, 15% haste? That's nothing to laugh at. When I enter execute range with the Bloodlust, this trinket, Death Wish, and Hysteria (from the DK tank in my 25 mans), I am doing some pretty sick damage and see my DPS jump like crazy; much more than it did with Mirror/Greatness.

Just on a side note, I am equipped with (almost) all 25 man gear from Maly, Sarth 2D, and Naxx.

What makes this trinket good is the 20 second on use. Not many trinkets in wotlk have controllable burst built into them so far.

I lead Malygos 25 raids weekly on my server and I get sick to my stomach seeing this trinket wasted week after week by DPS classes. So many people loot it and never equip it. How do I know this? Because I have a list of loot from each PUG and I check armory profiles. NEVER ONCE has a melee dps that has won this trinket had it equpped -- NEVER.

Why do this? This is arguably a best in slot trinket for a tank. Tanks need to hit the expertise cap to maximize threat and help minimize the damage they tank. The Haste is fantastic for even more threat production. Don't be an idiot and waste this trinket. If you're going to loot it over a tank--USE IT!

Well im a kitty druid, and got this today because no one really wanted it, so i got it for nothing.

After doing some research, i found that the combined haste is like a mini bloodlust, and a mini bloodlust every 2 minutes?
Thats a win right there.

Also, come 3.1 feral as well as 3 other classes are getting 30% more haste from haste rating, even though this probably wont last me through Ulduar gear, im thinking it might be good.

For a rogue using Grim Toll who is not Exp capped would this trinket be of more value than the Grim Toll Trinket itself? Provided he/she is already Hit capped without it? and wearing the Mark of Norgannon would reach the Exp Cap?

Does anyone have any reports on this for 3.1 as far as DPS goes? With the 2 Roll system and the fact that it has been stated several times on EJ that Expertise and Hit will be much more important to get capped, on top of the Haste boost melee will be getting, how much more powerful does this trinket become?

This IS a good warrior tanking trinket, and most of the top end raiding guilds tanks will use this for the raw expertise that it gives and the damage output of the tank, but i still think that blizz intended for it to be used primarily as a melee DPS trinket. As an enhance shaman, when i got this trinket, it replaced four of my 16 expertise gems, allowing me to replace those with four 16 agility gems. plus the 491 haste is a great buff to my DPS. Great trinket.

LOL I seriously doubt this. Ryseh, you are completely wrong in saying that Naxx25 gear makes a warr tank easily reach the parry cap. Furthermore, I seriously doubt you've ever reached the parry cap, as its almost freakin impossible without sacrifices too many other stats. Please refrain from using hyperbole in some weak epeen effort. At the very least review your stats using EHFS or WWS then come back with some real data.

As for myself,unfortunately after killing KT 10 times, and never seeing LL drop, and killing Maly25 8 times and never seeing Mark of Norgannon drop, I still pine for expertise gear. Currently my expertise rating is 33, and I still get parried up to 8% on some nights on revenges, devestates, and shield slams. Even with the 40 expertise granted by rhinolicious wyrmsteak, since 8 expertise = 1 expertise rating, and each rating point is -0.25% to be dodged/parried, it only accounts for an additional 1.25% reduction.

This trinket should go to a warrior tank first, then enhance shammies, especially when you figure in that melee dps attacking from behind only need less than half the expertise of a warrior MT.

this is the best trinket for a enh shamy, eaily said becaue its 2 good stats, and this trinket give you 50% of yourexpertice, and 15% haste with a 1/ uptime giving 3% haste and 59% of your expertice. shamans get 30% more out of haste, giving this trinket a 26.66% haste, and if you use it during BL and ap trinket plus mongoose/beserker enchant procs it gives you ALOT more dmg so its a good dps trinket exept for hunters:D /Lick

Rogues being one of those classes getting closer and closer to the crit cap. This patch this trinket has turned into a very good trinket for mutilate rogues, since haste is turning into a very good stat. Sure this trinket might not be close to Deaths Verdict or Comets Trail, but it has really gotten a boost in terms of value for certain classes this patch.

As of 3.3.3, this trinket is still useful. Speaking from a fury warrior's perspective, it's very hard to gain expertise, short of having two Blades of Culling. And I personally only use one, with Cryptmaker in my main hand. This trinket has once again boosted me to the expertise cap. Combine this with the T10 legs, and expertise shouldn't be a problem.

Granted this trinket is great, granted haste really is a iffy stat depending on the class.
