As a mage i can confirm interesting thing about this trinket
With talented Improved Scorch 3/3 and Glyph of improved Scorch, each Scorch crit generates 6 stacks at once, each Scorch hit generates 4 stacks with just 1 cast

Edit : looks like crits generates 2 additional stacks for most spells but not for all
Fireblast hit 1 stack, crit 3 stacks
Frostfire bolt hit 1 stack, hit with frostbite 2 stacks, crit 3 stacks, crit with frostbite 4 stacks
Pyroblast hit 1 stack , crit 3 stacks

Wrong, sir. Each time you cast a spell it stacks indefinitely. One spell-cast in 10 seconds is enough to keep this at 100% proc.

Channeled spells make this trinket proc alot. Arcane Missles is 5 Stacks, Blizzard is 8 Stacks.

I sit in the entrance for arenas, Buff, then cast 1 Blizzard, and i have all 10 stacks. The affect usually wears off by the time we get to the enemies though.

For bosses, this trinket is fully stacked almost 100% of the time. Mages can Ice Lance, Fire Blast, Barrage etc to keep it up. Even cast a Slowfall if it is worth it. Slowfalls are still mana though (I think 120 or so), so spamming 10 can put you -1200 mana. Your choice on weather you would lose 5-8% of your mana (Depending on gear) to get it at the beginning, or let it stack by itself.

Functionality has changed in the latest build (9438) it now stacks from dealing damage (direct or periodic) or healing (assuming target is not at 100% for periodic effects).

Several points as a healing Shaman as of Patch 3.0.8. As long as the heal performed is not 100% overheal, this trinket will

trigger from each additional chain from Chain Heal (4 maximum with Glyph of Chain Heal)
trigger from Earthliving Weapon's heal over time effect.
trigger from Riptide and its heal over time component.
trigger from Earth Shield on self and others.
not trigger from Ancestral Awakening.

From personal experience, it literally grows to 10 stacks in the first 4 seconds of an encounter (Riptide + Chain Heal give it 5 right away), and keeping the buff up is a non-issue with the HoT from Riptide, even if you aren't actively seeking out people to heal. An overall excellent trinket.

as of the 2nd day of 3.0.8. they hot fixed the fel armor healing ticks proccing it now.. but now life tap procs it. rain of fire also doesnt proc it for some reason

so for stacking this thing beforee fights or while in combat you can channel health funnel and move to interrupt it real quick, or use life tap.

@ Jaxson: Currently, https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=44255 is the best trinket for a raiding holy paladin, by a large margin. See the EJ thread for numbers.

I hate to fuel infantile debates on whether healers or dps should get a given item first, but I feel that, since it appears only idiots are capable of arguing for casters, I should add this:

DPS scales directly with gear. Healing does not.

I'm sure this #$%^es a lot of people off, but it's true. Bear with me now. I am not arguing that dps should get everything they want first, that would be stupid. I am however, stating that for items with very high stat/proc weightings per slot (I'm just thinking best-in-slot (BIS) mainhands and trinkets here) there is some merit to giving dps priority. No matter what fight you're doing, dps-ers are going to be spamming their dps buttons. They're not going to be stopcasting, timing their casts, or (at this point in the game) waiting for tanks to get threat. It's all about maximizing damage-per-cast time (DPCT). Healers, on the other hand, should ideally not be doing that much spamming of anything. Even on healing intensive fights like Sarth3D or Patch, a good healer is often going to be stopcast macro'ing more than spamming (the only exception here would be a resto druid rolling hots). Healing does scale with gear, of course, just not directly. Healing has always been more about timing, awareness (yes, I know this is also important for dps), managing overhealing, and choosing the best applicable spell than it has been about sheer stats.
Therefore, the DPS from a caster who knows what he is doing will always show a notable increase with a BIS item like this. An equally skilled healer will show less of an increase, and quite often none at all, depending on the fight, overhealing, and their healing assignment.

I am not necessarily advocating that your "dippus" receive this before your healers. Nor am I saying that dps is only about gear. I just wanted to point out that such a prioritization would not be totally outlandish. I raid with both a healer and a dps caster, so I can certainly see both sides of this.

The benifits of having increased spell power verses the mana regen that a healer needs over all is best given to a dps. There are so few trinkets out there for caster DPS to benifit from in the long run.

Just got this trinket on my boomkin, as of right now Hurricane will not trigger the effect. Hoping they fix this so the initial cast of hurricane will trigger it at least.

Not proccing from Blizzard(atleast not highest rank, not tried other) for me as of 9feb 09. Works for almost every other damage spell.
Really annoys me when AoEing during raids. >:(

I don't see any upranked Warlock posts about this item, so here's what I've seen having had this on my 'lock for several weeks.

If you start a fight without any stacks of this, it'll gimp your DPS slightly as your initial DoT applications won't have the full spellpower. This is why I reccomend getting yourself up to 10 stacks .8 will do if you're opening with Shadow bolt & Haunt, but really you want 10.

It does proc from Life Tap and Health Funnel, the latter is my favourite way of making sure this is stacked up to 10 before a fight. All offensive Warlock spells seem to proc it, and while I've never specced Deep Destro I'd only assume that conflag and chaos bolt will both proc this once. Multiple ticks from channelled abilities do not give multiple procs, they give or refresh once when they land. Given the mana cost you're better spamming a cheap damaging DoT like

It does not seem to proc from casting Demonic Circle (summon or teleport), Unending Breath or Detect Invisibility. Fairly sure Soulshatter similarly does not proc the IODS. However, what does or does not proc it doesn't matter, as it should only ever fall off if you spend ten seconds unable to DPS at all.

Spamming Health Funnel costs me maybe 6% of my health for all ten stacks. Before we engage bosses, one of our healers tends to throw a HoT onto each warlock anyway to facilitate lifetapping, and that more than compensates for the small amount of damage you take when health funnel spamming to get the ten delicious stacks from this trinket. One small thing: Health Funnel makes you turn on the spot to face your demon, so remember you'll need to face in the right direction before the fight starts. You could also drop a demonic circle facing in the right direction and port to it right before the fight if you're exceptionally lazy. One final thing about spamming Health funnel is that it can also cause your chance on cast trinkets such as the Dying curse to proc, which means you lose some time with it up during the fight. This may not be the best situation, but having that 200 spellpower from the very start of a fight is a much better situation.

Shamans, want to get your 10 stacks before you start an encounter? Cheapest (mana cost) and quickest way is Healing Stream Totem. At 80 it costs 131 mana and is on a 1s GCD.

I haven't confirmed it myself but others have told me this trinket stacks with the spirit one, Majestic Dragon Figurine. This amounts to about 260 sp for both slots, with the 4 pc. T7 set it's an even better bonus from Life Tapping to gain a nice little boost to your SP. Neither of these would be difficult for a caster, or anyone who isn't afk to keep up. It really isn't necessary to life tap before a fight as the casts will have it up really soon, especially if you're affliction.

I'm speaking of Warlocks here, incase no one noticed.

I would definitely get this if it dropped because I still have an old 55 sp trinket and it will pair nicely with the Majestic Dragon Figurine I picked up on a PuG. It will serve nicely until I get Dying Curse or something else from Naxx. Anything but the Extract of Necromantic Power(I freaking hate that trinket..mostly because I really hate haste).

Unfortunately, most of the above no longer apply since patch 3.0.9:

Chain Heal jumps no longer add additional stacks (you only get 1 per cast of CH, no matter how many times it jumps)
Earthliving Weapon procs and ticks no longer add any stack (no stacks at all from ELW)
Riptide HoT ticks no longer add additional stacks (you only get 1 from the initial cast of Riptide)
Earth Shield procs on self or others no longer add any stack

Still an excellent trinket for long (boss) fights, but keeping the buff up the entire fight without letting it expire may require some additional work now that ELW/Riptide/ES ticks no longer contribute to it when not actively casting.

This is good for all casters, i cant for healers as i am ignorant of their healing ways, as long as im alive i am happy :) but for dps caster i would say this is good for all of them. warlocks least so if i am honest as they do already have quite a few trninkets at there disposal, prob the best for mages and deff good for shamans :P

I'm not sure where they got the 20% drop rate from...In what seems like 20 runs of OS, I've never seen it drop. Pre 3.1, it's best in slot for most casters and healers.

I don't think it has been noted here in the comments, but Power Word: Shield (even unglyphed) does proc one stack of this per cast. I point this out because I have not been able to observe this same thing occurring for other notable proc-on-heal trinkets, whether it is because PW:S does not comprise a large part of my rotation as a holy priest, or whether it is because it simply is not counted.

I'm unsure at this moment, but I'm also going to see if Dispel/Cleanse/Cure/Abolish abilities might also proc this. I doubt it, but it's worth looking into.

Pre-3.2, this was one best-in-slot trinkets for discipline priests. Not sure if it still is, but it is still damn good.

A good way to start out a boss fight as a mage with this, is to cast Arcane Missiles. In five seconds, it gives you 6 charges, one for casting it, and one for each missile.

One trinket any Caster or Healer will want to pick up, Usable well into Ulduar or Toc if you cant get your hands on Eye of the broodmother or Anub's 25 trinket. Still using this one on my 245 geared Mage, Also may be nice to pair with the haste trinket from Normal Toc 5 man.

A holy paladin, once he has full raid gear and buffs, will not run out of mana, even while casting his biggest heals. At that point, spell power, crit, and haste are much more important than mana pool and restoration. So, this is an excellent trinket for a holy paladin.

This is a very poor representation of how paladins should gear. They are most certainly not.
Restoration is not important.
Mana pool is. More mana = less divine plea uptime needed. = more healed.

Even so, this is a great trinket for any caster or healer in a raid environment. Bigger heals save mana for the healer, because he doesn't have to cast as many of them.

Again, this is not how paladins work atm. For many classes this is true. Most paladins right now, will chain cast like mad and rely on a high mana pool to let them keep that up.

In terms of longetivity, this trinket might be among the best trinkets in game. Why? Well for almost every type of caster(if hit capped)/healer spell power is the #1 stat. This trinket wastes nothing to secondary stats like crit, haste, int, spirit. So while it may provide less overall stats compared to other higher ilvl trinkets, it will provide the best stat for many by quite a chunk. Do not throw this item away lightly.

Finnally got this trinket on my shadow priest! As long as you maintain the buff (no slacking :p ) its a great deal of dps inc. Its the 5th best trinket in-game according to maxdps.com for shadowpriests. Also, ive noticed that levitate procs this trinket so you can "raise" it to maximum with levitate before a fight, if you want to go all in at once. Levitate doesnt cost a significant amount of mana so its a good way to keep it up between packs etc ;)

Oh I remember how I got mine. Funny story, actually.

After spending months on farm for it from the start of February to near the middle of April, I happened to be in a run where the warlock in the raid won it, then I accidentally rolled on a cloak I didn't need through an accidental read of what was being rolled off and won the cloak and the warlock rolled second in rolls to mine. I was about to tell the raid lead to give the cloak to the warlock when the warlock whispers me if I wanted to trade the cloak for the trinket. I decided within a split second to agree and we did the loot swap all in an instant. I remember thanking them profusely because it made me overjoyed to get the trinket. It was really nice of them to offer that trade, and it made getting the trinket even more memorable. Currently as of now, I still use it for my heal spec and it has served me well.
