Soulstone in a trinket?

Basically an updated version of the
Eye of Gruul
.

The really sad thing is this thing has the potential to be amazing with CoH. (2% proc chance, but if you're hitting 6 targets its about an 11% proc chance!) (1 - .98^6)
But unfortunately CoH costs 806 mana! So unless you spec into one point of mental agility, you can't get 100% free CoHs and cheat the fsr some =(
But its still the best non-epic trinket for holy priests so far imo.

this Effect has a 2% chance to proc, so.. Hmm.. lets say 14,000 mana, 2% chance to reduce mana cost of the next spell.. Laaame
id rather get the trinket from a Quest that increases your spirit by 300 for 15(or 20?) and gives like 55 SpellP, or the Item from Botanica Last boss, the pre-tbc Darkmoon card: Blue Dragon or something "2% chance to allow 100% of your mana regeneration to continue for 15 seconds" could also have been a Majorly upgrade from this one. MUCHO Better!
Stack Spirit in All Sockets(with int, healing, what so ever combo's.. but always with spirit)
Stack items with Spirit
Get the Botanica Last boss trinket(Burning Crusader lvl 70 instance - drop on Normal & Heroic)
Get the Darkmoon card: Blue dragon
and voila.. You'd never go oom
<3 Cianxo for he's Mana regen allowing me to Chain pull / Tank the Heroics we did together Back in the good old TBC ^^

I got this two days ago, and I have to say, I'm still going to use my 2 level 70 trinkets. Even as a holy paladin, I thought this trinket would be amazing (and it would, if it procced more often) but the extremely low 2% proc rate makes me sad. The Scarab of the Infinite Cycle from BM will still have a spot for me.

I have this item. After playing with it for a while, I agree that it's probably proccing in the 2% range. Could be a bit more -- at that low level it can vary a bit and one wouldn't notice unless you're doing thousands of casts.
Unfortunately, a 2% chance of -800 mana comes to a savings of about 16 mana/cast. And that assumes that you're using the free spell for at least the full 800 mana's worth. If you use a simple HOT or standard healing spell, it probably costs less and your 16 mana is probably more like 12 or 13 mana.
All in all, a rather unimpressive trinket. The +spellpower is nice, but the rest is fairly insignificant.

Going to be farming for and testing this trinket asap; as the successor to Eye of Gruul (best pre SW trinket for Shamans and Priests IMO) I'm hoping it still has no ICD because EoG used to clock in at ~47 mp5 with 3-hit CH's but with Glyph of CH and other post 3.0 changes it will be interesting to see how this procs. Also it wold allow me the option of moving CH's mana cost through talents and gear to something more sub 800 as opposed to bare minimum.

I have a druid with this trinket... but I've never done tests and such on items. Is there an addon that can track the information or would I have to do it by hand? Pretty much I just wanna help contribute information because I saw this trinket, instantly drooled, and instantly started to farm it! Took about 4 or 5 runs :)
Open to suggestions on differenting testing senario's that people want to know about!

Currently this trinket seems bugged, at least for me. When it procs, it gives me the buff, but instead of just reducing my next heal by 800 mana, it reduces ALL heals in the 15 secs by 800 mana. Awesome bug :D. Unfortunately, expect the hotfix soon enough...

I have this on my Restoration Druid and I noticed something VERY interesting. I need this to be tested by other people.
It appears that
Nourish
acts in a bugged/glitched way with this trinket. It seems that while the ability DOES lower the mana cost to 0, casting Nourish does NOT remove the buff. That means that for the duration of the proc's buff, you can cast unlimited free Nourish-es.
Obviously this is an exploitation of a bug, so use it at your own risk, but I mean, it's not like you have to go out of your way to use it...
The other possibility is that both times I've noticed this, I was just being very lucky with a string of 4 procs in a row or so.
Note that this proc does not occur unless your target is at less than full health, so you have to test it in the field, while you're taking damage.

I was testing this trinket in Violet Hold today. When it procs (Healing Trance), Wild Growth cost 3 mana in Tree of Life form and it does not consume the buff.
Enjoy spamming it, until they slap a 6 sec cooldown on it.

I've been farming both regular and heroic runs for this trinket and still have yet to see it drop. I was planning to replace my
Talisman of Troll Divinity
with this trinket but I'm just not so sure anymore. 73 spirit is a great deal of constant mana regen as well as 18 spell power for a holy priest, versus the raw spell power of this trinket and a chance at saving a great deal of mana; 2% seems awfully low.
Tough choice here, once I actually get this I'll have to fool around with it and see how it plays with my clearcasting procs. Perhaps I'll simply wait for the
Spirit-World Glass
to drop from Naxx to keep my massive amounts of spirit.

Note that the tooltip language is different from the

This is not true -- it just has a very low proc rate (
Proc Chance: 2%
), so maybe it just seemed like it when you were testing it.
I used up 1.5 mana bars chain-casting Lifebloom on myself in Dalaran before it procced, but it did eventually proc. It does not appear to proc from HoT ticks, though it's really hard to tell if I'm just being unlucky or not. This requires further testing.

I got this trinket while I was leveling, and started using it now as a resto shaman. It's not as fantastic as I thought at that time but not bad too. I tracked last afternoon's naxx raid and came to this proc rate : 39 times on 1750. This includes every hot tick. That's an average of 0,5 procs per min or 33mp5 if you use every proc to it's fullest which not always happens. (ofc I only tracked intensive bossfights to get more accurate).
Compared to
Insightful Earthsiege Diamond
, that meta gem procced 64 times, which was around 41mp5.
I hope this info is useful to somebody :)

What a lot of people neglect about this sort of trinket is that it enables you to get out of the 5 second rule. If you get a proc on a chain heal(because like the eye of gruul and the fel reavers piston before it this is best suited for a resto shaman and coh priest(until nerf)) Then you cast the next 2.5s chain heal which costs nothing and then 2.5s for the next chain heal thats 5s where you havent been casting so you get 1-2 ticks of full regen which is <3.
The base spellpower makes it a nice trinket alone anyways but I'd estimate it to be about 50mp5 worth if you use it to its full advantage, or about 35 mp5 if you spam heal. Not bad for a normal instance drop better than a lot of the heroic comparable trinkets.

Looking over a recent Sarth 3D parse I came across the following data when considering replacing this trinket;
Mana cost of CH: 653
First half duration: 2'27"
(encounter was split for some reason)
Procs first half: 3
Second half duration: 5'14"
Procs second half: 9
Total: 12 procs in 7'41"
12*653 = 7836
7'41" = 461"
7836 / 461 * 5 = ~85 MP5
Don't think I'll be replacing this until CH stops working all together.

The reason i love this trinket even going into the naxx10 gear is that it's spellpower is better than some of the heroic drops. It also is the only pre-naxx10 trinket that i am aware of that helps with mp5. In the end, it depends a lot on what kind of problems you as a healer are experiencing. One who does not run out of mana probably finds one of the SP trinkets, while those with problems are going to take the occasional proc to conserve mana.

This is a nice trinket. I was wearing full purples with a green trinket...so i figured I could upgrade to this without needing to hope for raid drops. Got it on my first run through CoS. (woot! only 14% drop rate)
This CAN proc on overheals. (I spammed healed on some1 in dalaran until it went off after around 20 casts)
I have not had time to test Judgement of Light for procs, but if it works with that that would make this trinket as good as some purples. This trinket still is good for pally healers, despite the fact that we don't have as many chances to proc it.

If any druid has not figured it out yet, because it is pretty damn obvious, after this proc the best thing to do is to cast a lifebloom so that after it bursts it will give you mana back. This increases your mp5 by a good ammount in any fight. Still attempting to get this trinket to drop for me though, when I do I will run tests to see if HoTs can still proc it in 3.2.

(2%proc)
With this low procrate, its usually no internal CD.
A druid with 1sec GCD will need to cast for 50sec to see a proc on average.

some people say it can procs off HoT
ex.
1.I got this trinket while I was leveling, and started using it now as a resto shaman. It's not as fantastic as I thought at that time but not bad too. I tracked last afternoon's naxx raid and came to this proc rate : 39 times on 1750.

2. b) It (as a Resto Shaman) can proc off of every heal and HOT tic running, which works out to every jump of CH, every tick of Earthliving, the initial and tick heals of Riptide and any tick of Ancestral Awakening. However it will not proc off Healing Stream Totem as the totems healing counts as pet-healing.
some say it does not.
ex.
1. Edit: Just received this trinket. It does not appear to proc off HoT ticks, unfortunately.
anyone can actually confirm whether this will proc off HoT or not.
as a druid, I want to make sure if I need to farm this trinket.

In fact, it may well be BiS for that specific fight, depending mostly on your class. Other trinkets I've picked up over the past ~5 months in heroics, Naxxramas, Eye of Eternity, Ulduar or even Tot(G)C as a (discipline) Priest are the following ones:
Spark of Hope
Soul of the Dead
Living Ice Cristals
Majestic Dragon Figurine
Forge Ember
Forethought Talisman
and
Sif's Remembrance
When laid out, you'll notice that pretty much all of these trinkets lose either their stat or equip bonus on Vezax - the Forge Ember and Forethought Talisman are the only ones that don't (aside from of course, the Soul Preserver). Because the Spark of Hope is the only one that retains a mana conserving bonus (Unless you count Living Ice Crystals, which isn't very good), I'm currently using that one as my second trinket to go along with the Soul Preserver on the Vezax encounter.

The Mp5 druid trinket post said this is the second best druid trinket. Its not. Most of the time you wont need the extra efficiency of using a large spell that costs (lol cuz we have one *sarcasm*) 800 mana. These days, its nearly impossible to go oom, at least from my experience. (we have plenty of talents and abilities that let us not go oom, namely, 50% mp5 while casting, and Innervate... plus, if things go terrible I pop potions and what not)

This trinket is still beautiful for a Holy Priest well into raiding. Trinkets that compete and surpass this in various aspects are (in my sincerest opinion) Spark of Hope from Ulduar 10 and Solace of the Fallen from Trial of the Crusader 25 if we are talking about MP5. In fact, I'm more convinced that these trinkets will serve as accompaniments to my Soul Preserver as opposed to replacements.
The fact that it can proc off overheals and the fact that it has no internal cooldown have made this a formidable mana-conserving trinket for me. It's emotionally satisfying to be a holy priest healing a raid constantly for five minutes without popping fiend or Hymn of Hope, only to realize not just that you're still at about 70% mana, but that the Disc priest next to you is asking for an Innervate from our kitty druid.
My talent allocations emphasize mana-efficiency over burst healing. I use 3/3 Mental Agility (Discipline), 3/3 Meditation (Discipline), 1/1 Inner Focus (Discipline), 3/3 Improved Healing (Holy), 1/1 Spirit of Redemption (Holy), 2/2 Surge of Light (Holy), and 3/3 Holy Concentration (Holy). With the incorporation of the trinkets I use (Soul Preserver and Tears of the Vanquished) and between all of these talents, I have come to several conclusions:
1) The loss in burst healing incurred by emphasizing MP5 as opposed to spellpower and crit is not nearly as high as the gain in effective mana.
2) In almost any situation, preventing the loss of mana is far more beneficial than improving the gain of mana. General Vezax is not only a good example of this sentiment, but also a very strong test of it.
The
only
legitimate successor to this trinket is Solace of the Fallen, which has twice the spellpower of Soul Preserver, and not only a large amount of potential MP5, but a
constant
and large amount of potential MP5. While it is inferior in the sense that it replenishes mana rather than reducing costs, the effective mana from Solace is higher than Soul Preserver hands down.
Other trinkets might be better as replacements, but not decisively better, or are actually sacrificing one stat somewhat so that another one can rise signicantly. Such an example is Spark of Hope, which equates to about 26 spellpower for a Holy Priest with wings (see: Spirit of Redemption), about 22 MP5
while casting
from the spirit alone, and a much lower mana cost reduction, although now it applies to every skill you have, not just the healing/helping spells. As you can see, stronger, because it's effects are constant, but not a
successor
, because it uses entirely different tools to achieve the same purpose which, while more effective, are not ideal and have their own limitations.
43 mana does not have the power to make any spell free under my current talents, and there is nothing it can reduce when combined with Soul Preserver that wouldn't already be or not be free after Soul Preserver's proc. The only way it could make a spell free is if I had no points in Mental Agility and kept Soul Preserver equipped alongside this, and that would only benefit a full-cost Circle of Healing. So, unlike Soul Preserver, it has no way of messing around with the five second rule in addition to the cost reduction. However, in exchange,
every
spell cast is affected. But then, Soul Preserver also packs roughly 3 times more spellpower for a holy priest.
Soul Preserver benefits the majority of my most frequently used healing spells by making them free--Flash Heal, Empowered Renew, Prayer of Mending, Circle of Healing (even Guardian Spirit). It also reduces the more expensive spells to very cheap levels--Greater Heal, Prayer of Healing. It also has great synergy with Surge of Light, which can effectively allow me to cheat the five second rule indefinitely when I'm really lucky.
Ultimately, this is an underappreciated trink, and in my eyes it took them two major patches before a suitable replacement would even appear. Soul Preserver, I salute thee for thy hard work, diligent service, and
epic procs
.
Edited: I wish Spirit would make up its mind about how much regen it provides. Trying to calculate the numbers after 3.1 has been a little yeah... still, it's always good to revisit them and find out the actual numbers are better than my calculations.

On my priest I noticed that this trinket procs extremely often when casting
https://www.wowhead.com/cata/spell=48072
in conjuction with
https://www.wowhead.com/cata/spell=56161
I suspect that the trinket rolls for a proc for every target affected by Prayer of Healing, and again for every target affected by the HoT its glyph applies. That's 10 consecutive chances to proc the trinket. The reason I suspect this, is because my glyphed PoH procs Soul Preserver about every other cast. I actually had it proc 6 times in a row, letting me spam PoH's for 1054 (down from 1854) mana.
I have cast Prayer of Mending 94 times in a 5 man dungeon, the group includes on pet which was also affected by it. The trinket proced 54 times, this is awesome. It means that the Soul Preserver lowers the cost of Prayer of Healing by about 400 on average, making it the best heal spam trinket way past Ulduar and well into Trial of the Crusader, where you can pick up Solace of the Defeated for about 180 mp5
If you cast once PoH per 10 seconds, the Soul Preserver already nets you 200 mp5 as a priest.
Please test this for other aoe heals as well if you're a shaman or druid and let us know what happens.

I have this item. After playing with it for a while, I agree that it's probably proccing in the 2% range. Could be a bit more -- at that low level it can vary a bit and one wouldn't notice unless you're doing thousands of casts.
It says 2% if you click the item and check the procc chance. This suggests no internal cooldown.
Also, one way of modelling this is, if, as you say, things cost under 800 mana always, that it is 2% off the cost of all your spells, and thats if you just chain cast and ignore this as it proccs. Thats pretty sick.
I'm not sure how great this is for other classes, but as a druid, I can use the "clearcasting" proccs on lifeblooms, and get it giving me more mana than I lose, as with my normal clearcasting proccs. Which helps even more.
I'm sure other healers have their high-mana spells they can use this on as well!
