By far the best pet I have ever gotten, beats that little darter dragon I had following me for awhile. Does anyone know what the ideal conditions for the beam to go off? I have gotten it to work but I would like to know if anyone has endulged into this deeply, like does the pet have to be out for the estimated 12 minutes and resets when you unsummon, can you move during this time period at all other then /dance sort of thing, and does anyone have knowledge of willy destroying critters found in instances while a clear was taking place? Any further information would be great if someone has any of these anwsers.

I love this guy.

He's a one eyed monster thats constantly drooling. His names "willy" and he constantly falls asleep so you have to wake him up.

Careful using this guy in groups; a guildmate had him out in a Kara run and he pulled a pack by zapping a rat or something wandering near them. Unfortunately several people were afk at the time. The RL was seriously pissed, but we all had a big laugh after running back.

There is a cooldown for the Eye Beam thing but it isn't 12 minutes, it's more like 6. Outside of Orgrimmar there is a pen with a bunch of pigs in there. Just waited for it to zap one and watched the clock. did that twice after the first zap and about 6 minutes for each one. Willy's gotta be the coolest pet in the game.

It may differ from person to person, but based on my tests with the rats in the Deeprun Tram, my Sleeping Willy has a 3 minute cooldown exactly on his eye-zapper. I remained close to the rats at all times, and every three minutes precisely, Willy zapped one. Nice!

I just tested it out. I stood still while talking to someone in vent. I refreshed my Mark of the Wild before doing this. It seemed he would do it every 3 mins back to back. He would fall asleep, wake up and shortly after he would zap a nearby critter.

When Willy uses his eye beam, there doesn't appear anything in the combat log.
And when Willy uses his eye beam, it does the same sound as Arcane Blast.
And I can confirm that the "hidden cooldown" on his eye beam is 3 minutes.

Willy has a unique non-combat pet ability, in that he can kill almost any creature in the game classified as a "critter" (rats, cows, etc.). Willy will automatically attack a random, single critter that is within a 10-yard radius, and the attack occurs once every 3-minutes (if no critter is within the attack radius, that attack is simply skipped at the appropriate time and the timer resets). The timer resets when Willy is first summoned (or unsummoned/re-summoned), and continues counting as long as Willy remains summoned.

Willy was also the name of the martian "bouncers" in Robert A. Heinlein's Red Planet. I don't think bouncers look exactly like this pet but the resemblance is pretty close.

well guys i talked to a GM today and it turns out that willy was not nerfed theres just a glitch atm. blizzard will be fixing this soon and willy will be back to blasting poor innocent critters soon enough. yay! :)

I just tested this earlier and i can confirm the timer cycle on Willys critter killing ability is 3minutes this means that as soon as u step within 15yards of a critter he will trigger a 3 minute cycle at the end of which he will kill the critter in range, if there is is none in range after the 3 minutes he will begin the cycle again as soon as any critter comes into range. If u want to view the spectacle yourself i advise u find a critter that is preferably stationary so that it remains in Willy's range.

We noticed this after placing bets on Lil K.T and WIlly to kill penguins and noticed after a while that the times of kills seems consistent. A little hint is that Willy has the upper hand being as hes laser beams kill critters instantly whereas K.T freezes hes foes for a short period b4 death :)

Omg, after 5-6 yrs of playing i just found out about this pet. He is definately, along with the personal world destroyer, the coolest pet in game. I've done the orphan quests every year for the past 3 years and let my daughter pick the pets. Only this past year did I learn that there were other quests besides org. While I'm a new poster and have'nt taken the time to learn to link yet..might just be copy/paste, I would advise anyone that enjoys these that doesn't realize it; that there are 3 orphan quests for pets each year in different cities. If anyone wants to link, I think it would help people understand this. Hope thishelps, look them up on this site since I cant link..I know theres 1 in org, 1 in shatt, and 1 n another city.. (Dal)?.

This pet is one of five rewards available on completing Back to the Orphanage, the final quest in the Draenei orphan quest chain, or Back to the Orphanage, the final quest in the Blood Elf orphan quest chain, during Children's Week, May 1 through May 7 each year. Collecting Sleepy Willy, Egbert's Egg, and Elekk Training Collar grants the achievement Veteran Nanny. You can only get these 3 pets by completing the Blood Elf or Draenei orphan quest chain, you can only choose one pet each time you complete it, and each character can only complete it once a year. If you've been following along, you'll have figured out by now that it takes 3 years for one character to collect all 3 pets and complete the achievement. Fortunately it isn't required for completing For the Children, and therefore won't delay completing What A Long, Strange Trip It's Been, which rewards Reins of the Violet Proto-Drake and Master Riding. I don't know if it's possible to complete both the Draenei orphan and Blood Elf orphan quest chains in the same year by purchasing a faction change during Children's Week.

Can't believe no one's mentioned this, but Willy seems to be a miniaturized version of a Beholder from Dungeons & Dragons lore. In D&D, these creatures also had eye beams, and were also a lot bigger and creepier.

I got this one today... next year, I'm going for Egbert the Hawkstrider; the year after I'll get Peanut the Elekk... they're all so cute! I love Children's Week.

And yes, he does fall asleep sometimes, which is really cute, kinda like he is in general despite his freaky demonicness. He also wakes up after a while if you don't move :)

Btw, I haven't seen him shoot his beam at a critter yet, but there's a picture on his WoWWiki page over here.

Previously, Willy used to shoot a laser at small critters, such as chickens and rats, on a 12-minute timer - that is, if there was a critter around, a 12-minute timer would decide whether or not Willy would shoot a laser at the critter.

However, it seems the timer has been reduced to 3 minutes, rather than 12. This means you may be more likely to see the laser.

It might be just me, though. =/

One Eyed Willy is the dead pirate king from the movie The Goonies. The Goonies is about a bunch of neurotic children searching for Willy's legendary treasure guarded by ridiculously complicated booby traps. It was quite popular at its release and has become part of pop culture lore, which is probably why Blizzard has it here.

Willy is also slang for a limp penis. It is no coincidence that the pet resembles said object. The pet could just as easily have been a tiny pirate with an eyepatch, but Blizzard, not known for being politically correct, put it in as a perverted joke.

Confirmed. Sleepy Willy does kill critters with a laser beam that shoots out of his eye. I took him to the Crazy Cat Lady's house in Elwynn and waited for about 10 minutes before he shot one of the cats. Didn't catch the screenshot that time, so I waited for a few minutes longer and caught the above result! Best pet out of the three, in my opinion!

Also, to everyone saying it looks like a penis or a testicle, if your penis or testicles look like that, I suggest seeing a doctor, SOON!

The creature is a beholder, named with file "babybeholder" in wow model viewer, and it looks like beholders of wow, like the one in auchnai crypts. BUT! The name is surely from the serie/game/comic/wotsit where there's one eyed willy. An d it really shoots critters.

This guy just rocks. He is what made the quest worth while just for the comical value...
Every now and then you will see him shoot a critter, he also falls asleep if you stay still long enough, and if you click on him he sounds like the Alien off a really old console game called something like Abe's Odysseus because he lets out this weird sort of groan. Definitely worth getting this guy compared to the other pets IMO just for the comical reasons. :)
