12 hit rating works very nicely in the level 60-62 range, not to mention being able to add more with the sockets. People underestimate that stat, IMO. I would take this over Tim's Trusty Helmet in a heartbeat. Sure, you lose some stam, AP and crit, but it doesn't matter how much attack power you have when you're not hitting anything. Trust me, you will see the difference when you start stacking hit.

i have to agree with all of you guys but i am new to socketing and do u just buy a gem then have a JC cut it?
because i know some high lvl JC that would help me but i am lost with all of it and i just hit outlands yesterday and i am 60 on this quest...HELP ME PLEASE!!!???!?!?!?

If you have an alt, it is worth dropping some gold (or gems you have mined) for something like 4 agi/4hit rating or 4str/4 hit rating if you are a feral druid for some of the sockets since the hit rating this early WILL be great like mentioned before. Plus, you won't find anything close till level 65 :D

i personaly have one socketed with 2 https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=24067 and 1 Shifting Shadow Draenite (Which will be upgraded to the Nightseye version)

I am liking the increased crit, I don't wind up having 1-2g repair bills now from questing.

If you are Horde you cannot obtain Tim's Trusty Helmet, so the above comparisons only apply to Alliance characters.

Horde characters can get Captain Krosh's Crash Helmet instead, also from a quest in western Zangarmarsh.

If you socket the scout's hood with a Delicate Bloodstone, a Glinting Huge Citrine, and a Shifting Shadow Crystal, you end up with these stats:

+46 agility
+18 hit rating
+24 attack power
+21 stamina

Compared to Krosh's Helmet, you gain:
+23 agility
+3 hit rating
-8 attack power
-13 stamina

So the scout's hood is better if you have access to northrend gems. With TBC gems, it is probably the other way around.

I'm seeing a lot of upgrades spammed around here, keep in mind people... Some of us need to fill the requirements for Meta Gems in other gear. This particular item lasted me until 70, well worth socketing with the best gems out there.

I put 3x Bright Dragon's Eye (54 AP)

Lasted me until 80, nothing found leveling was better.

Even if I had 3x Bright Scarlet Ruby (32 AP) in it, it still probably would've came out on top.

This seems to be the hood that Richard (the undead warlock) from LFG wears.
His robe isn't in the game though.

This along with all other rewards from this quest, just fill it with cheap +hit gems (1g 80s for +4 hit) and it will make leveling a lot easier, currently sitting at over 6.5% chance to hit at level 63.

This is one of the best heads these days, in Wotlk, till Northrend, because of the following:

The Sockets:
Yellow
Red
Blue

And the epic sockets of The Burning Crusade are beaten by the Green value sockets of WotLK:
Smooth Lionseye < Smooth Sun Crystal for example.
And, these gems only cost 3 gold on my server, so... 9 gold and uber stats?
Let's compare this with the Leather Head you get in Borean Tundra:

Althrough, I would socket the Scout's Hood with the sockets: AGI, CRIT and a mixed blue socket, Stamina is not the best choice.
So my conclusion: Scout's Hood

For Druid Tanks this is by far the best helm you can get until Northrend if socketed with 3x Solid Sky Sapphire or Solid Majestic Zirconand attach a Heavy Knothide Armor Kit this helm nets over 1100 health while in bearform w/SotF.

Pretty much the best helm for Rogues and Feral Druids, until Northrend. Socket it with three WOTLK blue or epic gems, and you're good to go.

Using some mediocre gems can make this a pretty nifty helm. Sure, it might not have raw stats, but you can shotgun attack power, hit rating, etc with gems and have it be worth it.
