The high stamina and the +parry rating make these a clear leader in Karazhan-level tank boots for either a tankadin or warrior. A nice upgrade on Boots of Elusion or similar gear for either class, though the +strength gives a slight edge to the warrior.

I did some figuring, since I was having trouble deciding whether these boots would be a significant boost up from the boots of elusion.

Assuming +12 sta enchants on both and Solid star of Elune and Regal Tanzanite https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=30563#M0z (I happen to have one waiting to go on something) in the Battlescar boots, the Battlescar end up with 3.13% total mitigation with 2.69% of that being avoidance and .44% being shield block, while Elusion have 3.09 of pure avoidance, with no extra shield block rating. The Battlescar come in with 6 extra stam and 18 extra strength.

Basically with good gems the battlescar are superior to boots of elusion in everyway. While you do get a slight slight edge in avoidance, battlescar's avoidance comes in the form of parry which is more valuable, particularly for warriors, and also have better overall mitigation.

So if you have the gems for it, you can safely throw away your Boots of Elusion without holding onto both, or just gem the battlescar boots for pure stam and hold onto them both to swap out depending on your needs.

Hello. im begining make my resistance gear for Serpent Shrine Cavern
was looking in AH allways for green feet or greenstuff for NR Main tanking.
then i saw Void saphire's on socket able for this feet . and also +8 nature resistance kit to
my battlescar bot now like 16 NR with 2x void and 8 NR kit. ...

I had 2 https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=30566 lying around and I placed them in here for an additional +10 parry and +12 stamina. Good thing about using https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=30566 is that you also get the socket bonus, +3 Parry, for a total of +33 Parry.

Are you sure about that? If you parry an attack you also attack 40% faster, which also gives you extra rage. More rage=more tps.

the only strength on a prot warriors gear is whatever is lying around left over after u stack everything else. its like the last thing a prot warrior needs... seriously, if u want to improve your dps you are WAYYY better off speccing the 25% damage dealt by one handed weapons, also helps your rage. and also speccing cruelty, Block Value makes shield slam higher.
I cant believe there are people thinking they r pro tanks talking about how important strength is for a prot tank, do everyone a favour and /wrists now. even if you stack 25% dodge unbuffed lol there is no %^&*en way you are not gonna get enough rage to hold aggro. As for a main tank on a raid boss... they can hit 5k+ even if you dodge and parry 50% of them.. 1 5k hit is gonna give u basically 100rage so dont *!@#en try and argue u need more rage from white damage, u r $%^&en nabs go home and /wrists now!

as for what tanks need
i have my own theory and build.
but its agreed that u want 13k health unbuffed minimum 490 defense
and 14k armour
the idea is you get 490 defense and stack armour and stamina. Sure dodge and parry is great but its random. Armour and stamina is real its always there. the other thing is 25% shield block to totally nullify crushing blows from bosses with 2.5speed attack or higher.. like alot of bosses.
I personallylike the boots of elusion over these, more dodge than the parry on these is worth the small loss of stam.. then again im a dodge fiend;)

A prot warrior doesnt generate that much threat from white dmg. If your not slacking only a small amount of threat comes from white dmg. ANd you have plenty of rage @ raidbosses to tank properly so the excuse that if you avoid to much dmg you wont have enough rage is the most stupid theory ever. If you lack allot of threat L2play tbh.

Much better than Boots of Elusion. Put in Flashing Living Ruby (+8 parry rating) and Solid Star of Elune (+12 stamina). Put in +12 sta enchant.

will get you:
+52 stamina
+32 parry rating (1.43% of parry)

Since I'm a big parry fan - these are my boots of choice indefinately

I prefer to wear higher attack power/crit gear (TPS gear) while clearing trash, so I put more +str, +agi/crit pieces on. I don't allow my Defense Rating to go below 490, but I reduce other stats like dodge, block and parry. Gearing this way also increases TPS due to a lower total avoidance, since more rage is generated due to a greater number of hits taken over a set amount of time. And the difference in TPS between 900AP/12% crit and 1300AP/16% crit is significant. You and your party will certainly notice a difference.

Trash clearing will happen faster when the tank is in TPS gear, since the party's DPSers can effectively DPS at a higher rate. Suprisingly enough, the strain on the healer's mana pool isn't that much different. Mobs drop quicker, so they do approximately the same amount of damage over the course of a pull.

As for boss fights, mitigation/avoidance/stam gear is much more important. Just make sure to remind your group to give you more time to build aggro. Survivability is usually paramount here, not TPS.

So for those who say "Strength Sucks, L2P Nubcakes," I say Strength is important in certain situations and less important in others. It is certainly useful in Heroic Dungeon trash clearing, but its utility dwindles as survivability becomes more of a desired characteristic.

how do u hold aggro yes sunder, shield slam revenge, devasted.ofc thunderclap,etc is good too. yeah str is good but good tank should know how to hold aggro without socketing str more str more aggro dats bull!@#$. u cant compare other people in your raid group, rogues having 2000Ap after buff and the tank u know. the point is str got nothing to do with aggro. learn how to play warrior or roll on a other class.

White damage is, judging by the KTM results of people on this thread and myself, approximately 25% to a third of your total threat generation. It is one of the largest threat producing abilities that you have. It is just as big of a piece in the threat generation pie as Shield Slam and Revenge.

If you have a higher AP (strength), the threat produced by your white damage will increase. Much like adding SBV will increase the threat generated by your shield slams.

Im not saying that strength is a good tanking stat to stack in your raiding set of tank gear. But if having 1300AP vs 800AP gives you an increase of 20% in your white damage output, then you are in prot spec increasing the threat generated by your white damage by 20%(1.45) = 29%. And since white damage is roughly a third of your total threat generation, increasing it by 29% will translate into an approximate total threat generation gain of 10%.

These are approximate numbers calulated with an approximate method...but you see my point. Strength can be and is important in your total TPS produced. That extra 10% should be trivial in raids, where Stam/Armor/Avoidance stats are key. But for poundin out some heroics with buddies....your party can safely do approximately 10% more damage, which says a lot.

I don't have the boots yet for my warrior but as with my other gear you really don't need the socket bonuses so instead i would and will put 2x Solid Star of Elune into these to boost my HP even more.
You already have +21 parry rating on equip so the +3 parry (socket bonus) won't make much difference now will it?
I'd rather be able to take a few hits and live just that tiny bit longer than try to get the socket bonus on these...worthless and a waste of time matey!

P.s. Too much dodge gets you absolutely nowhere but the grave yard....oops!

what? BV has nothing to do whit %. its the amount of dammage u block.

btw, i also think for gems best is +12 (+15) stam. the parry is also nice. its not only that u dont get hited, and get rage, but u get haste until your next attack. as dps i use slow 2h axe, and there i rly feel, that a parry gives an instant counter attack. so imo priorities r:
1st 490 def
2nd hp, hp and some more hp
3th armor
4th u need some hitrating, to hit mobs in raid.
5th parry
6th block value.
so for gems only stam(exept the above mentioned +5 parry +6 stam), the rest u need u get from gear. this is a very nice boots. and if i will have it, i will put a +5parry +6stam gem and a +12

Has it been decided in these rant posts that thess boots are better than Boots of Elusion? Or is the answer yes to both; these boots good for the 25 main raids and the Elusion boots good for Kara/heroics?

I have both these and Boots of Elusion. If you plug both stats into the Tank Points addon the Boots of Elusion come out ahead every time. Its just too hard to beat the Dodge rating that they give. I did this assuming you would have used a +12 stam gem and the epic gem drop from Heroic Mech which will give you the socket bonus on Battle Scar. With this said the Eulusion boots come out as a better tank piece as a whole. Now you need to always look at what you need to improve on. If you are at 20% on Dodge then you would go with the Battle Scar boots. If you need doge and are good on Parry then go with the Elusion boots. If you are good both on Dodge and Parry then I would go with Battle Scar for higher stamina using 2x +12 stam gems. If you are far from 20% in both parry and dodge I would go with the Elusion boots as they are an all around better item for tanking.

Pls dont say str is important for a tank if your're not a prot warrior.

I'm a prot warr and i tank with rage skills, i use Shield Slam, Revenge, Heroic Strike, and Sunder. When i tank i see 600-700 TPS, when i crit i see 800-900.

When i afk while tanking and build my rage just for fun, i see 300-400 TPS.

I wonder where does the difference of 300-400 TPS comes from? STR?

Ppls say - "Yes i stack all that i can with STR, my gear gives me +150 STR alltogether, i use all my gem slots, all my enchantment.. all for that extra 100 TPS. But i wonder why i die so fast everytime from crushing blows, crits, and sometimes - even normal attacks! Ppl say i dont have enough dodge, not enough parry. But hey! I have 17% dodge and 17% parry! Isnt't that enough?"

So those who dont play a prot warrior, go start one and see for yourself ur threat generated.

And for my prot warrior friends: add stams, add dodge/parry, add SBV, and keep pressing those buttons. You will produce enough threat to keep ur DPS guildsmen busy spamming spells/skills.

Ok, what about the Zul'aman Gear? Its all very high Stam and i put +12 stam gems on everything unless the socket bonus is +6 stam in which case i will do either strengh and Stam, Defense and stam, parry and stam, etc. and place a +12, only losing +6 total, since the whole tanking set including what you pick up from badges has no strengh whatsoever, isn't it wise to add a strengh gem or two, and maybe a strengh enchant here and there, since the set has no strengh, keeping in mind that strengh also reduces amount of damage taken when you block?

Don't forget the reason why strength is on tanking armour is because strength gives block rating ( not much but str on each item gives about 3-4% block in total.) That is why. Must admit nice boots , depending on how much you want dodge vs parry, boots of elusion is better for more dodge and parry is better for battlescar boots. Look pretty nice

All this talk about what gems to socket tank gear with. Let every warrior do what they want. I socket mine with +12 stamina now that I have hit over 500 def. I'm over 14.4k health and I feel pretty damn good about it. When you get a tank in your group what's the first thing you do? You look at how much health he has. You never see anybody say, "Hey how much attack power does our tank have?" Strength is great everyone knows that, but stamina is the more important stat in my book. But everyone tanks differently, so do what you want it's your gold and your toon. But take a look at some of the tanks that are past kara and see what they socket their gear with............ Nuff said

At present being an Main Tank for a guild that has progressed to Tempest keep and SSC there is no way i would sacrafice a slot for strength unless there is no other choice
