The block rating on these gloves is what's the real gravy. That along with the sockets will cut down on your rate of crushing blows, and increase your avoidance decently depending on what gems you socket.

These are one of the best tanking gloves in the game right now, if you are a Protection Paladin these are arguably better than your tier 4 tanking gloves.

For overall tanking, these are better than warrior tier 4 (before the 2 set bonus ofc). Socketed with 2 Solid Star of Elune these compared to tier 4 gloves are:
-17 strength
-20 agility
+25 stamina (250 health)
- 7 defense rating (very small amount of avoidance, ~3 defense)
+17 block rating (2.16% block)
-23 parry rating (1.23% parry)
+38 block value
As most tanks know, stamina is very slightly more important than avoidance as parrying gets you less rage than taking a hit.

Probably the best tanking gloves for Paladin's until you get the T5 crystalforge handguards. Gemming them for stamina, which is something Tankadin's tend to lack, and then putting on the +20 spell damage enchant will give you all you need to Main Tank, or Off tank up until the SSC and TK circuit.

Got these gloves yesterday night. Probably the best gloves u can get untill t4 from the curator.

Does TP calculate Block Value/Rating? It never did for months and months.

These gloves are great because of this: "Increases your shield block rating by 15 (1.9%@70)."

When you are getting epic gear as a tank, you likely are already at your max defense of 490. So you don't need more defense. Often you actually need less on certain pieces, because you get so much from others.

Once you have your defense maxed out, you gain more benefit from straight mitigation stats such as block/parry/dodge. (Rather than the smaller benefit to these same stats that you get from defense.)

For paladin tanks especially, these gloves give a very nice benefit to your shield block rating. They also help with greater stamina which is currently a weak spot for pally tanks.

These gloves are a good compromise of pally and warrior tanking. In my opinion a well designed piece.

Paladin tanks only get 30 percent bonus to shield block rating with skills not the 75 warriors receive making this a premier piece for pallies.

Yes you have the shield block ability, but once your charges are used up you can get crushed. So, depending on the attack speed of the boss, or multiple mobs block rating does offer some benefit as it can mitigate some crushing blows.

The real benefit of these gloves is the block rating for pallies and block value for warriors. As these stats double as mitigation and threat generation for their respective classes.

I wouldn't generalize, especially with the changes slated for 2.3. How many times do you run out of shield block when fighting the prince? I never do as a Paladin tanking it, which I have done successfully a few times. I am not the greatest at avoiding infernals but I do not die because the class can't tank him more because of my inability to move him properly.

Anyway, I agree currently Warriors have an advantage over Paladins tanking 80 percent of the real bosses. But you're also not bringing another set of buffs or aura's to the raid are you?
