As a mage I think I would prefer trinkets with "Equip:" crit rating and spell damage vs this. Might turn out to be useful in extended PvP battles or AE grinding though.

This does not proc while in druid forms that don't have a mana bar. I didn't think it would, but I was hopeful...

I can imagine this might be useful for solo grinding for some classes. But does anyone know whether this thing also procs when someone else in your party gets the killing blow?

This trinket works exactly like it says.
You need to get the killing blow in order to get the +200mana regain. This also works at 70, when you kill a mob which is green or higher to you, even though you do not get any experience, you will still get +200mana regain if you land a killing blow on it.
As a Mage, i use this along with Oculus of the Hidden Eye. Giving me a constant +200mana regain, and every 2mins i activate this before i kill a foe and i get +1100 mana regain. Pretty sweet. The cooldown on Oculus is 2 minutes, though, but i keep it on just for the +33dmg stat on it.
Quite decent for prolonged grinding sessions killing things 1by1, not too useful for AoE situations though, as it doesn't bug i.e. you kill 2 mobs at the same time, you'd still only get +200mana regain, not +400mana regain and it only gives that mana back every 10 seconds.

If a hunter's pet gets the killing blow on a mob, the hunter will not gain any mana.

Really nice on my 70 disc/holy priest for solo grinding as along with 5/5 spirit tap (my only shadow talents) I basically don't ever run out of mana against single non-elite mobs.

I'm guessing that if a DoT kills a target (your DoT), you still get the +200 mana or, has no one noticed that yet (Since DoT's count as your damage I'm almost sured it does but, just checking).

While this thing might not look so appealling at first glance, if you break down the numbers, it's an incredible grinding/farming trinket for some classes. Think of it this way:
10 seconds is just two ticks of your mp/5 gear, so 200 mana every 10 seconds is worth 100 mp/5. Pretty impressive, but of course it never works out that way. Most people I know prefer to take out several mobs at once while farming, so again, at best- 100 mp/5 if you chain pull instead of farm with the "round 'em up, nuke, drink, repeat," method. If you kill one mob every 20 seconds (which is a lot), you're looking at 50 mp/5 which is still very good.
For a burst/CC/AOE class like a mage, it might be not be as beneficial due to their mechanics, but it is awesome for more single-target oriented classes like priests.

If you are a mage or warlock and have any intention of ever running Karazhan, DO NOT destroy this trinket.
If you are called on to AE Imps for the Illhoof fight, you will be getting at least one kill every 10 seconds for what is a several minute fight. The mana regen will be amazing. I'm wishing I hadn't destroyed mine...

From the perspective of a feral druid who may someday go balance, is it wise to pass up the +200mana trinket? How good does that prove to be for a balance druid in either certain farming or certain raiding situations? With imp LotP and some combination of:
Darkmoon Card: Heroism
Mark of Conquest
(alliance)
Uther's Strength
it seems as though the +200hp trinket wouldn't actually provide much value to the feral druid whereas the +200mana trinket might be very useful in some situations to the balance druid. Please advise.

I'm really glad I kept this trinket, because I've found a use for it that's actually pretty important: covering a side on Vashj.
As a Retribution paladin covering a side (I take the south one, one of the smaller ones), I was just chain-chugging pots the entire fight so I'd have enough mana to get back to DPSing in phase 3. With this trinket that's really not necessary, which is more of a money-saver really, but it frees up some room to either use a mana pot later on, or to use a haste pot in phase 3 when you've got bloodlust/avenging wrath/etc.
I'm sure hunters would find good use for this as well in covering a side.

It's VERY usefull to keep this trinket (or the other one if you're melee) for later raids. in the fight against vashj alone, there are tons of adds, all within the correct level bracket to proc this trinket, and often with only 1 or 2 people assigned to each section of adds which allows for this to proc more often for you.

Extremely useful for levelling in Lich King.
I knew there was a reason I kept mine in bank all this time without ever using it before!
My top trinket slot used to be a haste trinket since I was a PvE raider at 70. When it was time to level up, I had absolutely ZERO use for the haste trinket since I was doing AoE attacks. However, these AoE attacks cost a lot of mana, and this trinket basically works like this:
Pull a pack of mobs.
AoE a few times.
Let some of them die, you get +200 mana as soon as one dies, and the 10 sec cooldown starts.
Let some live while starting to pull new mobs.
When the new pack is assembled, start AoEing to finish off the near-dead ones (10 sec cooldown will be done by then) and get +200 mana again.
That's +400 mana between each fight!
I rarely have to drink anymore thanks to this trinket and I chose to keep it in the top trinket slot (despite having damage trinkets that could go there). I find the reduced downtime invaluable for levelling!

Ok just spent an hour deciding on which reward to take for this quest. Am a MM hunter. This would be amazing for focus regen. Took a risk over healing mushroom not knowing if it would work with hunter focus. GOOD NEWS this works with a hunter and is a solid source of focus regen. This is what a MM hunter needs. So any hunter would want to keep this one handy.

A proc only on a kill seems to offer only a low amount of mana regeneration, especially if the Hunter is required to land the killing blow.

Seems to be quite useful for mana classes while farming, grinding or soloing quests. 200 mana/kill is not a lot but it is noticeable, and for endurance it seems to stack up good against trinkets you can obtain later on. Though it is hard to see whether it is worth to wear for hunter's (aspect of the viper) and warlocks (life tap/dark pact).

I've used it as a mage, doesn't seem to be worth it at all. If it procced on every kill, without the cooldown, it would be a lot more useful.
As it is, I think I was running out of mana faster than if I just used a trinket and killed them with one less spell.

...from a grinding perspective. Think of it as mp5 that you unlock by killing mobs. Your killing speed determines how much "regen" you get from this item. The class best suited to benefit from this is the mage, because they tend to kill very fast and then have significant downtime drinking. A well-geared fire mage can get about 4-5 kills a minute, which equates to 800-1000 mana a minute. That's the equivalent of a 67-83 mp5 trinket. (i.e. better than most trinkets you would use while grinding)
A simple way to calculate the equivalency of this item to mp5 is to take your average kills per minute, multiply by 200 (to get total mana gained per minute), then divide by 12. OR, in one step just multiply your kills per minute by 16.67

I disagree, this is a fantastic hunter trinket, due to the low cost of shots and how fast we kill. This and a Mark of Conquest in your trinket slots yields ~330 mana per fight, or 3 steady shots. The AP and haste benefit from aspect of the Hawk is better than any other trinkets at this level with viper up. Basically since I got this I can grind constantly with hawk up, then switch to viper and ride to my next questing area. Rinse repeat.

This thing is amazing for Ret leveling. Drinking every 6 mobs instead of 3-4 is a giant boost in efficiency.
