This is incredibly rare on my server: Nordrassil, I don't think it was any where near as rare on my previous sever: Moonrunner. What is a good instance to grind for this?

Both Illusion dust and Eternal Essences are decently cheap to get by disenchanting

You would be better off getting to 300 enchanting by just doing Enchant Shield - Greater Stamina. It is way cheaper than buying illusion dust on the AH. Unless, of course you are wanting one of the inferior enchants you can do with this.

250-300 is really a tough nut to break, and a rather expensive one. I have two alts in lvl 50 and 54 and all greens i found with them I sent to my main and disenchanted, but that wasn't even enough.
So you might actually wanna buy reagents or greens from AH, and try to sell the enchants. You will probably not get any profit, but you'll at least cover up some of the expences.

This dust is disenchanted from Level 51-60 Greens ( Required level ) Item level of 56-65

You'll only get Illusion dust from OLD WORLD 56-60 items. If you disenchant outland greens lvl 57-60 you'll get arcane dust.
It may not matter to some, but on my server illusion dust is triple the price of arcane dust, so I have to be wary as to which greens I buy on the AH to disenchant.

whats so great about this illusion dust is that u can make a load of money as long as u got LW / Skinning. what u do is grind 12 X rugged leather and buy 1 black dye and 1 rune thread and make wicked leather head band.. if u aint got LW / Skinning and just skinning like me, gring leather and make someone make the headbands for u:) got a major precentae o get them.. what u recieve is either: Greater eternal essence X 1/ 2, and illusion dust X 1/2 or 3.. gl guys and hoped it helped:)

One of the best sources I can see for Illusion Dust are Emerald Lion Rings and Glowing Thorium Bands. Both require a mere 1 Thorium bar and 2 Huge Emeralds/Azerothian Diamonds.
Provided you have a character with mining you shouldn't have to resort to the AH for the gems, which can be rather expensive, just mine the Thorium, smelt a few ores into bars for the settings, and give the rest to a friendly JC to prospect for you. You should be able to get two or three of either ring made in about two stacks of ore.

Does anyone know any good tailoring items to use for disenchanting for this?

Just watch out about greens for lvl 56-57, who COULD look like pre-TBC item, because it's just of the eagle, or something like that. If it drops in Outlands, it we still be disenchantet to arcane dust, but lockboxes dropped in Outland, can easyly contain a green who will get disenchated to Illusion dust.

Oddly enough one Illusion Dust dropped off a mob in AQ20 today. After we got our achievement done I was on my pally who is a miner/engineer solo'ing the big destroyers that look like Moam so I could mine the Obsidian stuff.
Anyway, odd to see an enchanting material drop off a mob.

Why not just download the Enchantrix addon? It will tell you in the tooltip exactly what an item is likely to disenchant into before you make that decision to buy it from the AH. It's an extremely handy mod for enchanters.

Easiest way to get this is via Frostweave Pants from tailoring. mats are easy to farm, ie runecloth

I was working on enchanting on my horde mage, but when i went to buy this from the AH it was 500-700g a stack. I was like DAMN. so i logged on ally alt, 40g a stack on there. should the economy between ally an horde be THAT diff? lol
at any rate, thank god for gadgetzan and a friend to help xfer :D

So I was trying to scrounge up some illusion dust for a guildy, made some pants n headbands n such. I got one dust out of the lot, and half a dozen large brilliant shards and lots of greater eternal essences. >.> Never get that lucky when I need essences and shards but have no weapons or blues... *sigh*

Before you go and make a bunch of runecloth items to get illusion dust check your AH first. On my server illusion dust is selling for around 2g each and a stack of runecloth is selling for 8-12 gold. The cheapest tailoring pattern that yields illusion dust is the runecloth headband which takes 6 bolts to make. This yields 1 or 2 dust, with a chance of getting eternal essences and large brilliant shards as well. So, it takes 6 stacks of runecloth (worth 48 to 72 gold) to make five runecloth headbands that could yield you 5-10 illusion dust (worth 10-20 gold) if you don't get any shards or essences.
Now depending on how much Large Eternal Essences sell for on your server it may still be profitable to make the headbands or whatnot for DE. Since Lg Eternal Essences can sell for a lot of gold. You keep your dust and sell any essences or shards you get to buy even more dust. However using that strategy may be a gamble.
Also keep in mind the cost of runethread. Individually they are cheap but buying thread in bulk to tailor items for DE'ing does eat into the profitability of getting enchanting mats.

I run a tank and, mean as it sounds, I demanded to need-roll greens because I'm about to hit Outlands and cannot afford (literally) to pay AH price for the dusts. (200g for 10... I'm level 55 on a new server) My groups were only to happy to oblige, seeing as most of the dps were upwards of a 40 min wait at 3 a.m.
Enchant Shield: Greater Stamina (5 Dream Dust)
Enchant Boots: Greater Stamina (5 Dream Dust)
I spamed out the boot pattern till it went green, getting 20 pts for around 30g. Only missed two points while yellow. Next go to Wintersprings and get:
Enchant Chest: Major Health (2 Small Brilliant Shards)
This pattern, which most people do NOT go and track down, will stay yellow until 315, so spam the hell out of it! It's also the only good pattern that uses these Shards and, as stated above, no one goes and gets it so these shards wind up on the AH for 20s each...
After I had used up the two stacks of shards I had already had, I bought stacks of 20 form the AH... for 5g a stack. In all, I spamed out 22 points for fairly cheap.
There is NO batter way to level past needing dust (except for chanting rods). I have over a dozen Outlands patterns without ever needing a ilevel 55 essence or dust.
And though it's hardly worth mentioning: if you do managed to get the mats to make both your rods, you can spam out Nexus crystals for enough points to get you past needing the dust as well. Stacks of 20 go for 4 g on my server.

The best item I've found so far with a consistent drop rate of dust or eternal essences is
Emerald Lion Ring
.
Most, if not all jewelcrafters use this plan to level and the competition to sell them is fierce. I've seen people (stupidly) selling them at AH for 1g each or less.

The cheapest way I found to get Illusion dust is to disenchant wicked leather headbands. These will disenchant into Illusion dust 76% of the time, greater eternal essence 20% and large brilliant shard 3%. Everything you need to make the runed arcanite rod :)
I went to the Blasted Lands to farm the rugged leather (crosilisks, boars and hyenas) for the headbands at 12 pieces per headband. I ended up looting a few pieces of armor that disenchanted into Illusion dust as I was farming the leather. I also got a couple of pieces of armor to disenchant from the Imperfect Draenethyst Fragment quest and got Illusion dust too. From 10 headbands I got 6 stacks fo Illusion dust for a total of 9 pieces. After all was said and done I had 16 illusion dust and 4 greater essences (no shards) in approximately 1.5 hours.
good luck

If you have a Blacksmith handy I found crafting
Thorium Leggings
to be the easiest way. They only take 12 bars and since cata hit thorium ore is super easy to come by or farm

The best place I have found for green items in this level range is lower Blackrock Spire. One run thru takes about 20 minutes and gives between 15-25 illusion dust as well as the large shards from the bosses. In addition you have a chance at the an enchanting pattern an annoyingly good chance actually. As well as getting two non-combat pets the worg and spider.
This is post cata expansion. Run with and 85.

I know this is really old, but I found another way to get Illusion Dust (and Greater Celestial Essence if you need those as well).
If you have Blacksmithing, or have a friend that does, you can craft
君王板甲战靴
and disenchant those. I've been on a streak with disenchanting, getting two to five dusts (or two and three essences) for each disenchant. Advanced warning, these have a fairly hefty material cost (18 Thorium bars), but Thorium is hardly as rare as Felcoth and you can always sell the extra materials.
Hope this helps. :)

. Runecloth is pretty cheap on my server, I got from 280 to 300 with about 75g. Disenchanting
翡翠狮王戒指
is also helpful, but without a JC expect to spend a bit more.

Don't make Runecloth Headbands as they will only yield 1-2 dust per. Make Wizardweave Turbans if you can spare the mats. They require a couple of Star Ruby and some Dream Dust. However, according to my Enchantrix and the results I saw, the turbans will yield 3.5 Illusion Dust per disenchant versus 1.5 with the Runecloth Headband.
With the guild crafting bonus, I just had one give me 7 Illusion Dust and another give me 5 Greater Eternal Essence. Most of the time with the headbands I was just getting one dust.
It's the same number of Bolt of Runecloth, so if you can spare those other mats, do it.
I needed to churn out a couple of these enchants, and I ran Upper Blackrock Spire to get some greens, large brilliants, and most importantly tons of Runecloth to make turbans with.

Lots of people seem to be claiming that you can commonly get dream dust from disenchanting 51-55 greens. This is incorrect. I suspect people have looked at the wowprofessions website which gives that info.... It is wrong.
I have disenchanted literally hundreds of Wicked Leather Headbands (a level 51 item) and I have never got dream dust. Also if you check the disenchanting tab of that item it shows that you don't get dream dust from disenchanting it.
The only difference between a level 51 green and a level 56 green is the ammount of disenchanting materials you can potentially get from disenchanting it. They will give illusion dust, greater eternal essences or large brilliant shards every time.

I also have had a hard time getting illusion dust for my enchats, I dont need it that much, but use it for the stam to bracers. And its 15 illusion dust for that. The illusion dust cost a fortune on Uldum realm. Id rather go farm high level greens and d/e them or like the person above said, it be cheaper to just buy greens in AH and d/e them, then to buy the illusion dust. Lol, thats insane! We really need to do something to get the price down.

With TBC out, you have to reley on crafted items and not world drops to get Illusion Dust. Not too many Azerothian greens for the mid level 50s are available anymore. The most common piece of gear I found was the Wicked Leather Belt because it is easy to make by leatherworkers, and is used for the final push to 300 leatherworking before they go to outlands.
If you have a high level main/alt leatherworker, go to winterspring and farm the yeties south-east of Everlook for the rugged leather. On my 68 hunter (pvp spec), I farmed 60 in about 35 minutes which was with some lag issues..so not so bad.
If you don't have one, ask a friend or guildy who has the profession to make you some and tip him/her. If worst comes to worst (which really isn't that bad) buy them from the AH because I can almost guarantee no matter what the server, these belts will be in abundance and rather cheap as long as you don't buy them all out inflating prices drasticaly.

on my server and most other servers illusion dust now sells for 10-15g a pop, and its used in many enchants, the reason it went up so much is because of that one patch were bosses in all instances drop just blues, and blues disenchant into large brilliant shards.
So now that bosses no longer drop green gear that disenchants into illusion dust not many people farm instances for the green gear.
The only way people usually get this is buying the greens in the AH which people got while lvling and disenchanting em, and thats not many since many people go to outlands and u dont get illusion dust from outlands greens.
the only thing i can suggest u to do to get this dust is to get the greens that people make from their professions and disenchant them, gl all

For tailors I find making wizardweave robes a good option. Farm runecloth and for each wizardweave robe make 1 runecloth belt and disenchant.
For 11 bolts of runecloth and 2 thread, you can get 1 or 2 illusion dust, dosen't require buying any annoying mats too, just runecloth.
You could even buy the dream dust, skip the belts and make the robes for this dust.

Thanks for the help guys - I farmed ALOT of Illusion dust - More than I need to get 300+ Enchanting I made quite a profit for the left over amount + 30g a run per person. I made off with 300+ Enchanting and 200g+
BTW - The 30g a run per person was in Dire Maul (East)

Illusion dust seems to be quite rare nowdays and so the value of it has gone up loads! This stuff sells for 60g for 20 on my server which is a rediculous price I think. Before the TBC it used to cost something like 10g for 20.

best way to get illusion dust hands down, might take awhile but totally worth it,"wizardweave Turbans" requires bolts of runecloth star rubies and dream dust..if u have multiple professions like i do, finding the mats is not that hard to do,most items u DE u get back 1.5 illusion dust, with these the % is 3.5 with a 20% chance of 2.5 Greater eternal essence which is a cash cow on my server :)
