I've been on millions of runs through scholo and have only seen this drop once and only for one person.
I guess two questions.
1. Do you need special faction for it to drop
or
2. Is it just a rare random drop for whoever can loot?

I was running a lock guildy through for her class quest and this dropped. I liked the name so I got it since there is nothing a 70 wants in there anyway. Once I seen how low the drop % is, I really like the shirt now. I'm a special cow.

Ok. The deal with this shirt (and the Master Builder's Shirt from Darkvire in BRD) is that it is a white quality item, but is BoP. This means that you will receive no "looting this item will bind it to you" confirmation, and it is at first only visible to whoever has "trash loot rights" to Dr. K.

As someone once put it: for all looting intents and purposes, this shirt exactly like a piece of Runecloth that you cannot trade away.

I have this cloak as well, I had no idea it was a rare drop until I grouped with a bunch of lower levels for some instance and they were telling me how lucky I was. Looks nice, like a maroon Rich Purple Shirt.

I've easily farmed Scholo as a feral druid in t4-level gear. With the extreme ease of getting pvp gear that's better than t4, I'd say that any feral who's been 70 for more than a few months now should be able to easily farm this thing.

Here's how: Put on your best DPS gear, and stealth to Rattlegore's room. If you accidentally get seen before you get there, just go bear and swipe-spam with mangles on cooldown, mauling if you have extra rage (which you'll likely get a LOT of with swipe crits flying everywhere on these low mobs). Once you're in his room, pull the solo constructs that are in your way (kill them in bear or cat), then pull Rattlegore. I have managed to pull him without getting the construct that stands near him, but it's not really that bad if you get them both.

Kill Rattlegore in bear, stacking lacerate to 5 while mangling on cooldown, then starting a Mangle -> Lacerate -> Swipe -> Swipe rotation. That'll get him down pretty quickly, and you'll be healing yourself from imp lotp for almost as much as his piddly DPS against your magical armor-fur can do.

You now have the Viewing Room key, which will let you get to Krastinov. Once you pass through the formerly-locked door, turn left. You'll reach an open 2-floor square area. Krastinov is on the second floor, directly opposite the entrance you just passed through. Go into his room and pull a few of those gouls, killing them in bear form and staying out of the green goop they leave on the floor when they die. Then pull Krastinov and kill him in a similar fasion to how you killed Rattlegore.

If you're in t5+ DPS gear, you can burn down these bosses in cat form before they kill you (if you don't get unlucky non-dodge streaks), but I still tend to use bear form since it's a lot safer and not all that much slower.

Okay, if you're trying to farm this at 70 here is how I did it. as a mage..

- Walk in, kill the 4 guards, open the gate and drop down.
- (Optional) - when you drop when theres a little room, with a ghost he has a 5% chance to drop https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=16254 which goes for about 50g-100g depending on server
- Go through the gate to the left go down the stairs
- Open that gate, kill mobs if you want or blink through em
- Go through that gate and head down to rattlegore
- Kill him, take the key then take off all your gear
- Die purposely then go back into the instance
- Go onto the ledge where you feel you can land right on the door ( The skellys are immune to spells so it's a bitch to kill em by your staff!!)
- Open the door and go left through the gate
- Go to the Doctor and kill the elite mobs around him
- Heal up, pop your bubble and let your pet hit him first, pop icy viens, trinket, everything
- Lay it on him and when he enranges pop ice block he will go to your pet and hit cold snap, ice barrior, and icy viens again if needed and keep going, you should kill him with about 4000hp left.

Note, I think you can use the spell "Slow" in the 41 talent of arcane and slow him down and just kite him around the room.

When I did this I was 11/0/50

If you're dedicated to farm this I would respec to do more damage with your arcane missles.

This is how I run it as a resto shaman.

1) Zone in, turn right. Drop down off the bridge to the room below. Hug the wall and watch out for spiders/the skeleton patrol

2) Make your way through the whelp room, hugging the left side. You can get past all the groups without being attacked.

3) Pull rattlegore. If you time it well you can get him solo, though if you want to be safe, get a roamer or two first

4) make your way back. Most of the spawns in the room under the zonein have despawned, leaving only 4 packs. Head straight through the room to the far end, then hug the wall going right, behind the candelabra thing. Open the door from the ledge/shoe molding thing, then when the add closest to the door steps a few steps away from it, you can zip around the corner without aggroing him.

5) Run into Dr. K's room. You can avoid aggroing any ghouls if you wait a few seconds for the one near the wall to path away from it.

6) Pull and kill Dr. K.

7) Run out. Using a combination of grounding totem, earthbind, and stoneclaw you can zerg your way from the summoning room to the zoneout without too much difficulty.

Total time is about 10 minutes per run, give or take. I'm up to about 40-50 runs now and this stupid shirt hasn't dropped. I got my S3 shoulders yesterday and it matches my whole S3 set so well :/

I finally got my shirt yesterday after soloing Scholo for the last few months . Took me almost 50 solo runs (and countless before the expansion at lvl 60).

At 70 it's possible to sneak past pretty much everything and only kill Rattlegore and Krastinov as long as you skirt the walls and get your timing down so that you miss all of the pats and any mobs that move erratically (like the whelps). I found that it was easier to run into the whelp room and drop down the first hole on the left side and then run through Rattlegore's room dodging the constructs rather than trying to get past the whelp groups which I aggroed accidentally much more often than anything else.

Once in Krastinov's room, if you're not an overly large character, you can actually slip behind the coffins to avoid fighting the ghouls. I was able to do this with my female night elf, but unable to fit behind them with my male draenei.

After much practice I was able to do a Krastinov shirt run, only killing the two bosses, in about 4 minutes.

70 Hunter. T5/T6 level gear.
Total kills: 2; Rattlegore, and Krastinov
Necessary potions: None needed. Health and Invisibility Potions may help but are not required.

-Dismiss your pet for now.
-Run through the first set of enemies, open the gate, and FD.
-Run downstairs and through the next room, avoiding the pathers. Single-pull and Freezing Trap one if needed. FD and continue into the next room.
-Avoid the pathers. FD and wait for them to pass if you need to.
-In the dragon room, stick to the left side and put on Cheetah. Time your run when the dragons are moving away from the wall.
-Summon pet. Single-pull any skeletons you need to kill and do so.
-Single-pull Rattlegore. Do not Misdirect your pet beforehand. If you pull 2 or more, you need to be able to FD and try again. Once you have just the boss, MD your pet and kill him.
-Dismiss pet or tell him to remain where he is. Run back through the dragon room and into the area with the viewing room door.
-Avoid the pathing spiders and hug the wall near the door. Unlock the door while on the ledge then jump in. FD if you accidentally aggro something.
-Proceed into Krastinov's room, sticking to the left side and into the little niche to the left of him.
-MD pet, apply Mend Pet, and pull. Go all out but FD before pulling aggro. He hits like a truck when he enrages. Use a healing potion if FD resists. If you cant drop aggro, you will die.
-Strip down. Die. Death run. Reset instance. Rinse repeat.

Takes about 15min or so. Got mine on the 6th or 7th try.

Just got this on my rogue after the my 3rd kill (I'm so sorry to those who have been farming for ages). I was combat specced with badge gear but after a couple of rattlegore deaths I decided to use some pvp gear and found it much easier.

Here are the tactics I used for about 5 minute runs:
-Run in, stealth and drop down to the viewing room.
-Go up the stairs, through the gate and then drop down on the left hand side in the dragon whelp room to get into rattlegore's room.
-If you now look towards the stairs that lead down into rattlegore's room, kill the skeleton who is closer to the gate than rattlegore and is to his right.
-Now attack the skeleton who is close to rattlegore and this will also pull rattlegore. Pop blade flurry and if you wish use adrenaline rush (although I saved adrenaline rush for Krastinov). You should now have the viewing room key.
-Stealth to the viewing room door and move to the left of it and open it here so that you do not need to kill the mobs in front of the door (if you pull them you can always vanish)
-Move to Krastinov and start doing whatever you do to kick his butt until he enrages at which point you shoul use evasion as he hits hard and I had quite a few frustrating deaths after getting him to <5%.
-Loot Krastinov and feel disappointed or happy, either way good luck in getting this shirt :D

I used this up until recently, when I bought most of the 2.4 Badge Loot, which unfortunately did not go very well with the brown/cream apparel that my Druid wore. (T4 helm/shoulders and CE tabard.)

I switched it with the Brown Linen Shirt instead, as that seems to work much better with the getup, and matches the sort of brown/cream look that Druid-esque gear seems to have.

Getting this shirt took me about 20 runs (I do consider myself lucky, prepare yourself on alot of runs for this shirt)

I recommend the route posted by Lardos up above, I'm a rogue and have all the benefits for sneaking around, but at lvl 80 thats hardly anything anyone needs. I went along unstealthed for most of the time, only pulling aggro a very few times (mostly on my way back through the dragon whelp room, very close to the door) and when I did, the mobs only tickled.

At lvl 80, with a gear mixed from emblem of heroism epics and quest reward blues, both the two bosses were easy.
The cautions with saving cooldowns and using Evasion when Krastinov enrages, are no longer necessary.

I got this shirt on the same run I got my Headmaster's Charge from the last boss, it was my 5th run in the instance aiming for D1 hunter piece from last boss (I'm collecting D2). Did it as a lvl80 SV Hunter with Gorrila pet (this is during the BM nerf of late January '09). 3% isn't that bad of a drop rate.

As a lvl80 with no stealth, avoiding all the trash is doable and easy. Just do the same as Lardos post above, except hug the walls of the viewing room.

I compared farming this shirt to farming the Phoenix Hatchling from MgT reg on my 80 Holy Paladin. The hatchling has about a 6% drop rate and it dropped twice for me in about 15 runs. (The first time I was in a group with some guildies so I did not get it, but all other times I soloed.) Meanwhile I've killed Krastinov at least 10 times and still no luck. I'll keep up the runs and count how many times it takes for me to get it... Hopefully not months of runs like others say it might. But that's the beauty of semi-random drops!

I wear this shirt while in my Role Playing set with the gear you get from hitting Honored with the Bloodsails, except for the hat which I replaced with the Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat. An awesome combination for an RP fishing set IMO.

Didn't even know this thing existed until it just dropped for me. Farming valor helm on my DK. I've done a few runs (In the region of 30-40) and this is the first time I've seen this drop, although I don't always loot.

Got it on my frist run through Scholo on my 80 paly. I was doing it just for the completion achievement. It dropped and I was like, oh, nice. I had thought only the Master Builders shirt was the only white BOP. Didn't know until I looked it up that it's drop rate is low and rare.

I'm in the process of farming this now on my 80 lock. Two things make it pretty simple:

1) Level 80
2) Demonic Circle

Using the above strategies, once I make it to the whelp room, I run to the first hole in the left-hand corner, and park a circle before I drop down. Kill a few mobs, kill Rattlegore, teleport right back up. Careful you don't pull whelps.

I also park a circle on the bridge in the first room, overlooking the ghouls. If you're crafty and sneak past them the first time, on the way back you'll be in range of your circle before you even have to worry about risking aggro.

With careful footing at level 80, the only mobs you have to kill are the four skeletons at the beginning, Rattlegore (and probably 2-3 Constructs) and the Doc himself.

Now I just finished a run and a few seconds after I killed the Doctor, out of nowhere Alexei Barov and four skeleton guards came charging in to beat me silly. Alexei is right below the Doctor. I guess I was making too much noise upstairs. Be careful.

1) aggro first half of the instance
2) Kill
3) aggro second half of the instance
4) Kill
5) search the pile of corpses for Dr. K

I was farming for the Baron's mount when this dropped. I had no idea this shirt dropped Scholo, and was alerted when the "Bind it to you" warning popped.

This shirt is very cool and perfectly matches the Nymph Heart Charm and my guild's tabard, which is black with red highlights. In addition, the designs on the sleeve elbows go well with the skull on the Nimble Climber's Belt and the skulls on the Proto-Hide Leggings. Normally, I don't care about shirts...but this one is different!

80 Mage here, been soloing this on/off for the last 2 years for the damn shirt and tried to pick up magister's d1 while I was there.
How I do this: Once I enter I slow fall and go to the right side of the bridge.
If I look down and to the right I can slowfall into the alcove with a few adds, AE them dead and run to the left room for Rattlegore. After I get my key I open the door, go down to Dr. and kill him then everything else. 2 years of on/off farming, no shirt. Yet.
Unlike Schwarzkopf I have no luck with this thing.

I have a question does the shirt still drop from The Butcher in 3.3? ive killed him over 17 times so far and yet to see it. I'm wandering if it was removed as I don't see it on Atlas Loot as well. Also if its just all been in vein killing him over and over.

Okay, so I've been playing WoW for five years, and was a hardcore raider for four of them. Played every day with my girlfriend. We farmed Scholo at 60 for her epic gear from Darkmaster Gandling, and we always wanted this stupid shirt to drop just because we collect rare things like dorks.

And all this time later I'm farming rep on my alt and it drops the first time I kill him? Rofl, gtfo.

i have been farming this thing on again off again since vanilla on 2 different toons. During that time I've gotten 3 headmaster's charges, 1 ace, countless flask recipes and like 4 of those epic patterns. Finally got this today after reading this and on a whim decided to run it. I cleared my bags to get ready for a Serious farm session. Fortunately it dropped on the first try. Now to go run Strath and claim baron's mount.

I have played WoW from the beginning, and never saw this on any of my characters. Tonight I ran scholo on my 42 druid and before I logged out, cleaned out my bags and lo and behold, there it was. Didn't even see when I looted it! Quickly switched out my rich purple silk shirt for this. Little surprises like this make me so happy! Now if I could get the scarlet crusade tabard to drop for just one of my characters...!

as others have said, this shirt indeed still drops, also, the screenshots don't do it justice. really good looking shirt :) took me around 40 runs to get it to drop but at 85 you can just ignore trash and go straight to the boss for the most part. GL! :D

I actually got this on my first solo run on my 70 twink main. I originally went there for Kirtonos the Herald for my transmog shoulders, but decided to kill afew bosses. As soon as i loot the doctor a shirt pops up. I look at it but don't really like it. So i decide that i'm going to delete it, but first i want to see what the drop rate of is, So i come here and look it up. So i'm now wearing this shirt EVERYDAY and don't plan on ever taking it off.

For those of you still farming this most awesome shirt of shirts, keep going! It just dropped for me today (5/23/12) after killing the Dr for the millionth time. Since people always post "what they did different when luck happened" (As if it matters) whilst they were running I will add my tale:

Now days this shirt is easily farmable couse you can jump down streight from the beginning of instance and you dont need keys open the doors. and as i said this shirt might get removed in mop so farm it while you can. *Edit:damn it got removed*

Yeah, it accents the Nightslayer set very well. It doesn't show up if you have the chestpeice though, because the chestpeice covers it all up, but other than that, great.

It`s white so it`s "common" qualitywise but if you take a close look at the drop rate, it should be EPIC indeed !

I started the Scholo key quest line last week with my 70 druid (nothing special, just a blue geared druid from the 5man instances and quests) and couldn`t resist entering Scholomance once i got my key.

The quest giver was right by the door so i said to myself "why not try it solo, i`ll give it a shot". It turned out that i got this shirt the only time i killed this guy !

Then i went for Jandice, then for Kirthonos and finished the instance with the funniest fight ever with Master Gandling. I must have been teleported over 25 times !

Will move on to Stratholme next time there is a snowstorm and i am home all day :)

i was looking all over for a dark red shirt to match my shaman's vengful gladiator gear. The tailored ones aren't dark enough, and a few of the "red" ones are kinda orange. i was inspecting a preist and i noticed the dark red <Sawbones Shirt>, so i looked it up on thott, found out it drops off the Butcher in scholo, as a lvl 70 enhance sham in all epics i soloed it, and wassent too hard, i just past up most the trash and went for the bosses, first you have to kill Rattlegore for the key, go back, then you can open that big wood door(there are some mobs to clear in this room) and run to the Butcher. so he killed me the first try, beleive it or not. i was trying to heal myself, didnt notice he was enraged, so i had wasted dps'ing him down, trying to heal myself, he was attacking so fast as duel weild, i had too mutch spell knockback. Second round, i made sure my health was toped untill he enraged at like 45%, then i just poped my trinkets and burned him down. This took me probly an hour (2 runs), the first run i killed him he did not drop it, the second run i knew how to do it, and the shirt droped! i was suprised. The shirt is blood red, matches my vengefull gladiator gear perfect. :)

Well that's just sad...it took around 60 runs to get the Master Builder's Shirt, and then on just my 12th run I got the Sawbones shirt...here's the method for Engineering Prot Warriors!

There's 2 goals, 1st get the viewing room key from Rattlegore, then get to Krastinov and kill him.

Enter Scholomance. Kill the two skellies in front of the door (you kinda have to) and then go down the stairs through the next two click-to-open doors. In the summoning room (next to where you fight Kirtonos) you can pass all the mobs down the middle if you time it right. You may have to fight the skellie patrolling in the middle. Through the next door you can also pass all the mobs, if you're careful. Otherwise, again you may have to kill one or two patrolling skellies. Next door with all the baby dragons--if you hug the walls and watch the timing, again you can pass all the pats. Remember for the most part at lvl 70 you can solo most groups of mobs. Pass the dragons and head to the basement. Kill the first skellie in front of Rattlegore, and if you're careful you can pull Rattlegore into the stairway alone and kill him for the viewing room key. If you get one extra skellie...well that always killed me! So be careful. Now, being an engineer is useful for the key. You can always go to the room with the door and use the key like normal, or you can do it the quick way:

Go all the back to the beginning of the instance, on the bridge. The door will be below you to the side. After killing Rattlegore equip your parachute cloak, so by the time you get back to the entrance (maybe use rocketboots and leave instance to loose aggro, then re-enter), go to the side of the bridge above the door. Use the parachute, and land ON TOP of the door. From here you can open it. Now, depending on how the mobs are situated below you, you can do a "hop and move forward while jumping" technique and land on the right side of the door without aggroing the skellies. The types of skellies are usually random, so sometimes you will have to fight, but you can ignore the necrofiend pats by moving into the room with all the students that don't attack unless spoken to. After this, just go to the room with Krastinov, hug the walls and pass the pats (again watch and be careful) and then you can throw a knife, shoot a rocket, or just call his name and pound Krastinov to death. As a lvl 70 prot warrior in all blues (well one green) he's cake. Loot & pray. Then rocket boot through the mobs, run back to the instance entrance, and reset. Oh and if you have your Argent Dawn thingy it's a good way to get rep while grinding for the shirt.

The "standing on the door to open" trick saves some time I think. Anyway, good luck out there! I'll try to get some pics of my (female) draenei (prot/warrior/engineer) with the shirts.

Picked one of these shirts up tonight in Scholomance. Looks pretty good and goes with my Black Dragon Mail, without a stupid stripy bit skewing the textures, like on a "Stylish..." shirt.

Pretty pleased with it.

Had a few runs where it didnt drop and one paladin accidentally nabbed it. Doesnt have a BoP clarification on it, so be careful.

This shirt actually looks red, not like the "red" linen shirt which looks orange.

If you are a Bloodfang Rogue, or a Giantstalker Hunter... this shirt looks awsome with the sets.

Arguably one of if not the rarest items in Classic wow. The roughly 1.5% drop chance combined with it being a BoP white shirt, means it will commonly be picked up automatically and becomes un-tradable, easily mistakenly vendored and you can't even master-loot it.
Consider yourself very lucky if you get this.

After diligently farming this I thought I'd share some information.

As commenter's in the past have mentioned this is a bind on picket common item,
only the person who wins the internal roll see's it and inherits loot rights.

Think there's a way to change loot rights to common since some raid leaders I've seen in AQ40 use it to acquire all the Scarab Keys.

If so this will shorten your hunt for this item considerably.

Some facts about this item;

- You will be the envy of all RPer's.

- Chance to drop says 1.37% (Not 1337, at all.)

- Took me well over 200 runs to get this passively.

- You'll have plenty of dark runes by the time you get the shirt drop.

As a rogue running this is ez, when you get to the bridge drop off and run to the whelp room and drop down the side to get to rattlegore for the key(you can use evasion on him it'l be back up right in time for krastinov with the endurance talent) and stealth back to the door, unlock it and run to krastinov's room. Clear the adds then start Krastinov, evasion when he pops enrage and you're set.

Got this on my 3rd attempt so maybe droprate has been buffed for tbc or I'm lucky.
