These are very useful, when you don't have slow fall or blink like a mage. Used very effectively in AB, where you can jump off LM or down to GM for great tactical ambushes and manouvers, or simply a nifty escape.

Ah, the lowly Parachute Cloak. Very few Engineers hold on to these, but now there IS a reason to hang on (or craft a new one) to your Parachute Cloak.

Air to Air combat!

In conjunction with the Discombobulator Ray (https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=4388#m0z) you can send your enemies plummeting to their doom. Simply fly a few feet above your target, dismount, shoot them with your Discombobulator Ray and pop your Parachute Cloak before you hit the ground.

The real use for this is as a 19/29 twink. The item requires 225 engineering and then can be equipped. Do to its high iLevel the new high level TBC enchants can be placed on it.

Actually, there still is some use for these. Lately I've found myself ganking Alliance outside Tempest Keep and around area 52, but some of them manage to fly high up in air and survive on 5% health. That's where Nature's Swiftness + Elemental Mastery comes in. It's basicly an instant 2.5k damage, with 36 yd range. I either use the cloak before I hit the ground or go up chasing them naked so I won't loose durability.

Me and some other Shamans made it a sport, to get the best my durability / their durability repair cost ratio.
Last night we got a Nelf to spirit rez 3 times. Lame? Maybe, fun though!

Unfortunately next patch bodies will fall down to the ground. I guess that's where the cloak really looses it's use.

I'm revising this "review" of the cloak. I've always been rather partial to this, and now that the cooldown of the cloak is reasonable, it might have even more practical uses.

Several people think that flying mounts make this useless. IMO, this isn't the case at all. Not only is it convienent (sure, you can generally just use a gryphon to fly down when there's a really far drop, but with my welfare blue gryphon it's usually a lot quicker just to use this before I land). The cloak itself is great when you need to make an escape. And, with a flying mount, it's even better to use to get the drop on unsuspecting PvP targets.

It's not great for escapes if you have another cloak equipped. You can only equip it when out of combat and it takes a while after you equip it before you can actually use the parachute buff. This can be great for escapes if you always have it equipped. Now, obviously I don't think it should serve as a replacement, I always keep another cloak on me for instances or raiding, but I personally think it's having it equipped often. Obviously, your stats will go down considerably, but as a rogue the agility isn't completely useless and although I sacrifice quite a bit of damage, in world PvP, some battlegrounds, and grinding this can really come in handy. From a rogue's perspective, when I'm PvE grinding my goal isn't to dish out as much damage as possible, but rather to rack up combo points and pop an Eviscerate/Envenom to finish them off. I'm usually pretty clumsy when farming and I tend to keep going regardless of how low my health is, and as a result often I'll need to escape. When this happens, I can always just jump off one of the many cliffs in Outland, pop this, and save my hide. While, yes, if I had kept my "normal" cloak, I would've burned down the mobs more quickly, I think in the long run the potential corpse runs would've taken longer.

In world PvP, especially Halaa, I think this is golden. I have no points in subtlety, so even when I stealth, I usually end up getting caught and my chance at an opener is gone. Using this I can fly very far up, and drop down to get the drop on an enemy. If I time my use on the cloak well enough, I can usually get close enough to my enemy to Cheap Shot before they even know where I am. For non rogues, if you're an engineer, maybe you can use a Cloaking Device, or a World Enarlger/Noggenfogger Elixir to get you small enough so that they aren't able to see you well?

Now, this is my playstyle. I'm sure for some people, escaping from combat is rarely a problem they run into and the stats from their regular cloak would be much more useful. But in my case, I think it's invaluable.

In any case, it's fun as hell. Surprising PvP targets with it is great, and occaisonally if you meet someone stupid, they might try to follow you off a cliff when they see you survive.

I think Olaf's All Purpose Shield from Uldaman is better than this cloak because it's a shield and can be equipped during combat but has the same effect.

In the current 2.2 PTR Patch (08/11/07), Blizzard reduced the cooldown from 30 mins to 30 seconds.

I didn't level my engineering fast enough for this cape to be useful to me statwise. Although it is great if you can get enough materials early enough.

This is also handy in Arathi Basin at the LM (long fall) for a quick retreat or rush to a nearby node for quick defence.

If you hate Thunderbluff as much as me, this is also handy there instead of having to find an elevator.

Awesome cloak. I just made it and equiped it at level 20. This can be very useful on many long jumps of cliffs like the ones in AB and also retain full health after rezing in WSG and jumping off that ledge to get back to midfeild. I am working on the mats for 12 Agi ench for this cloak since the cloak is a level 45 item. For those thinking about leveling Eng to get this item for the 20-29 BG bracket I would highly recomend it. It cost me on the thrall server just around 150 gold to level from 0 to 225 Eng (after selling back some stuff I crafted). Wich is not bad being that you can spend 100g on other cloaks such as Tigersrtike https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=13108 wich can not have the +12 Agi ench added and is also ugly as sin..

i hit lv 70 now and still keeps it for alot of reasons
1:danm funny
2:even more funny when u got flying mount and tricks ppl to belive ur killing urself
3:usefull as hell when ur flying over places where u no u can be shot down any sec
4:also usedfull in blade egde if ur dumb enough to "accidently" dismount at a rigde

ppl this cloak is 10000 times worth the mats (also a few twink owners lv 29+ pays heavy for this thing sometimes i got 200g outa one once)

This cloak is priceless in world PvP for assaulting opposing faction on flying mounts.

If you are warlock you can approach airborne target and place 2-3 insta dots every 30 seconds...

Just a note for the level 29 twinks, to get this cape 225 engineering is required and the problem is: how can I level my my engineering the cheapest way? Is the slow fall effect of this item purge-able like mage casted slow fall? I see that the school of this item effect is 'physical' where the mage's slow fall is 'arcane'.

Edit: Though I plan to have this on my 'riding' set for outfitter for my huntard when he's out picking flowers. Gotta love daze-dismount from an aggro flying mob at 2,000 feet up or the f'ing fel flak cannons.

for hunters with this item, while you're floating down you can use any instant attack, such as arcane shot and aimed shot. allowing for ariel bombardments! Same goes for mages and any other class with instant range attacks.

Also, very fun, using this cloak as a DK, then Death Gripping the target some 30 yards into the air and watching them fall past you again as they take fall damage, or jumping off a cliff, use Deathgrip to pull your opponent down with you, then you chute safely down as they fall into an abyss of death =)

If you just it a bit before you land (Maybe 2-3 secs), you won't suffer from any major injuries (If any, at all).

This isn't tested with the cloak, but rather slow fall, which is pretty much the same.

This isn't the best twink cloak... you all keep going on at how tigerstrike mantle cant have bc enchants... but think...

The normal 29 twink rogue/hunt has eng/skinning for the cloak. Eng will take the place of hebalism's Lifeblood, and incase you didn't know it is from reaching 300 herbalism and heals 900 hp over 5 sec, cooldown is only 3 min... hmm, kind of a lot for a 29 twink you think? So it's either 12 agil from parachute, or 7 stam and an ability giving 900 hp over 5 sec every 3 min.

Though for hunters you also have to decide if the glitch... neh im not gonna tell everyone. hunters are annoying enough. =)

As of this patch, If you get this cape this is the best 29 Twink Cape for a rouge in the game. It has an item level higher than 35 so it can be enchanted with 12+ Agility making it the best in the game for that bracket. So if you a 29 twink.....

This Cloak is so freakin' awesome for Kamikaze attacks.On my server players were able to use skills on some flying mounts,fact that made the casters OP since they could fly around and cast harmless against melee.Not anymore.
Recipe for Kamikaze Attack
Full Sub spec rogue(u'll need Shadowdance and Shadowstep oh and also Premeditation)
An annoying caster on a Flying Mount
The rogue Flying on top of him at a good distance
The Plan:
1.The Rogue uses Shadowdance and flyes on top of the caster
2.The Rogue dismount and sappes the caster
3.That poor victim dies(or hits the ground very hard)
4.Rogue triggers the parachute
5.Shadowsteppes behind the caster(if he is alive.If not just fall slowly on the ground)or
5,5.If that guy is still on the mount just Shadowstep behind him and hit him again.
I've killed a lot of them in this way.Between my victims:3 Arcane Specced mages,1 Demo Specced lock,1/2Destro+1/2 Affliction Lock and a Shadow Priest.
It's so funny to use the fall dmg for u're own good.I got once chased with my rogue by a warrior in Tempest Keep.I just jumped off and activate my cloak,that poor guy used charging,had stunned me but he fell down.....Very hard(about 15K fall dmg).I just had 2 Shadowstep and finish him.

Also we got some haystacks that negated the fall damage but only worked for rogues(I've noticed that rogues make a flip in the air just before hitting the haystack).
And I've tortured a poor rogue that didn't got the cloak.I've forced him with Dark Command to come to me.Then a warrior knocked him back(this happens some1 on the Tempest Keep's satelites),that fella falls down.Eat about 7K fall dmg(poor guy) and then I drag him up to me again(I was standing on the edge of that satelite) and he falls down....again..I had shooted a Howling Blast and a Death Coil so I make sure I get all the credit.That guy got only 12K HP

3.3.3 introduced this Pilla which is another slowfall option and very easy to obtain. It's on a separate cooldown from all the slowfall cloaks so everyone now havs access to 20secs of continuous slowfall (tested it yesterday...i'm not an engineer so i used the skyguard cape to test).

I have the best idea! Blizzard needs to make a WING SUIT for the chest, which doesn't reduce falling speed (maybe by a tad to compensate for drag on the suit) but instead lets you steer around like on a flying mount. This would enable you to go base jumping off very large cliffs (The Storm Peaks) and direct your fall. Then, once you got close enough to the ground you could still pop your parachute cloak and BAM pure awesomeness.

As has been mentioned, this Cloak can accept Burning Crusade enchants (require level 35) at level 20 (minimum level for 225 Eng), since it has no level requirement and is iLevel 45.

An obvious use is for Hunters, Rogues, Druids, Enhance Shaman and Monks to benefit from 附魔披风 - 强效敏捷 in the 24 and 29 brackets.

A different use of this is to cap your Spell Penetration against racial resistances. Combined with 完美贡献符文, placing 附魔披风 - 法术穿透 on this cloak will give you the Pen cap (29) for the 29 bracket. Since binary resists are incredibly annoying, this is worth the minor loss of caster stats imo.

There is a huuuuge pillar in Feralas, which you can be teleported to. You can't fall down from that place without dying unless you have this cloak or one of the parachutes they sell on the top of the pillar.

Always keep a few of those in your backpack :P

I go to Un'Goro all the time for mining and farming. I hate having to go to the opposite end of Tanaris from Gadgetzan to take the safe route down. On occasion, I try to jump form cliff to cliff down to the floor from the noxious lair, but more often then not, I die from falling. This thing should be awesome to help me jump from Tanaris to Un'goro with very little injury! THANK YOU, GNOMES! I LOVE HAVING YOU GUYS ON OUR SIDE!

I saw this used in AB.

It was an air-assault on the Blacksmith from
the Lumbermill.

Ever since then I have wanted to get this.

A group of about 5 reinforced their group attacking
the Blacksmith by jumping from the Lumbermill,
popping the Parachute Cloaks and drifting down to
the Blacksmith. I was at the farm, and just
watched them 'fly' down right into the melee at
the flag there.

Runners, even on Epics, took about another 20 sec
to get there from the LM.

Coolest thing I have ever seen done so far in-game.

This is usefull if you are a Gnomish Engineer and are using the Teleporter device to Gadgetzan. It will get you OVER Gadgetzan and gravity will take you the rest of the way down. This can save your life if you can't cast slow fall.

If you're using ultrasafe teleport, you really need this equipped. If you end up porting into the sky, you will probably die without some kind of slow fall. The first time I used Ultrasafe Teleporter I ended up way up in the air, so I immediately parachute cloak and float down easily to the ground.

Couple other tips:

- Good item for locks and hunters, as your pet will follow you down steep cliffs where they might normally despawn when you jump too far.

- If you're on autorun as you jump, you will keep on going forward in the same direction -- no matter if you turn or not -- so try to aim for a safe landing spot BEFORE you jump.

Recently I was in a game of Arathi Basin, and I found my self in a desperate situation. The horde were about to win, and there was a lone ret pally running down to the Blacksmith to take it. Myself being a shadow priest, I could do nothing except watch helpessly as he moved closer and closer to the blacksmith. I had forgotten that I had my Rocketboots Xtreme equipped, as well as my Parachute Cloak in case I needed to jump off LM. I had an idea: I Clicked my rocket boots Xtreme (300% speed for 5 seconds) and jumped off LM towards the Blacksmith. As soon as I jumped, I hit parachute cloak. I zoomed forward, and landed ON TOP of the blacksmith. I casted the pally down from up there, and equipped healing gear and healed my friends once they arrived. It was a great game, and it saved us.

The levitate ability for the priest is not learned on one of the trees, all types of priests can learn it. as to the shadow priest, i'm not sure seeing as i'm a holy priest myself, might not be able to cast levitate in shadow form. but other than that, priests have no need for this cloak.

I made one of these because I thought it would be fun to bail out of my flying machine, stealth and land in hostile territory unseen, very Delta Force-like. It basically works, but it's more challenging to use than I expected.

First of all, using the cloak breaks stealth, so you have to cloak first and stealth after. But the real problem is that the slow fall only lasts ten seconds, and you fall very slowly during that time, so you don't cover much distance. Therefore if you trigger it too high, it'll run out and you'll resume falling and take damage and break stealth, or even die. Of course you can also trigger it too late, with obvious results.

The timing gets more difficult the higher you bail out, since you fall faster. There's nothing more humiliating than attempting a stealth airborne attack, but screwing up and hitting the ground like a wet sack of cement. "I swear I was minding my own business, mining this adamantite node in Nagrand when this rogue falls out of the clear blue sky and splatters on the ground right in front of me!" But that's engineering for you.

I love it when low level items like this come in handy in endgame raiding. It makes me happy to see that some items never lose their usefulness.

If you are a warrior or a rogue (etc), make sure you have this equipped when you fight Archimonde in Hyjal. I don't know about you, but I'm perfectly willing to sacrifice some stats for another way to avoid an autokill.

This Thing Is Awesome! And as a Rogue, it's not easily replaced by the newer flexweave underlay (despite the Agil bonus). Here's why:
Enchant Cloak - Stealth https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=38893/附魔披风-潜行
Keep this cloak always and enchant it with stealth. Then enchant your current battle-cloak with a more robust enchant.

Macro so that you can wear it while walking around in stealth, and revert to your combat cloak when attacking!

A new Stealth button:

/equip AnyOtherStealthyItems

Replace an OpeningAttack button:
/equip NameOfBattleCloak
/equip AnyOtherBattleItems
/cast Cheap Shot (or whatever)

It works very well even at 80.

this is more of fun travel device but usefull to get away from players in some areas or mobs. you can jump off cliff where player cant just follow you if its high enough, or if you are fighting mobs that toss you into the air.

parajumping in WoW. jump off area like great lift at bottem of barrens or coming to wetlands from loch modon, any very high area. fun fun. other people can take the long way or jump and loss half health.... we do it the fun way, jump right off and glade down! the 10secs is long enough to get you to ground with 0dmg if you dont hit it early. make it more fun, hit jet boots first, jump off ledge with super speed. reminds me of my first visit to tarnais. i didnt take the lift, i hit jet boots, zoomed past guards in few seconds flat, then hit parachute after i jumped off. lifts are for the technology deprived:).

reuseable every 30mins, no regeant like slow fall or leviate.

I used this plus rocket boots xtreme while holding terroks quill. I kept the speed from boots (as most of you probably know) but with the xtreme boots you do this little spin thing at the end. since I was in the air when boots finished, I kept spinning till I hit the ground. with the quill out to the side, it's sorta a helicopter effect. wish I had a video.

Anyone tried dismounting on ur flyer and useing it before you hit the ground?

I have a question regarding this item as well as others engineers create.

I made one of these as well as a pair of Goblin Jumper Cables and other things and I've tried giving these items to others to use. They continuously give them back to me telling me that they need to be engineers to use them, as the items will usually say engineering required and then a level.

My thinking is that you need to be an engineer of a certain level to create them, but not to use them. Am I right or wrong?

It seems that others are using this and other engineering items, but they haven't stated as to whetherr they're engineers or not. Could someone shed some light on this for me?

I used to use boots and cloak to get into some very funny places. I still use cloak to get into ungoro from tanaris easier.
I just wait till im close to the ground to hit it because if you do when you first jump off itll wear off and your a dead man.
Ive learned a few times where i miss timed my jump or i hit to late on the cloak or left click and drag off the cloak instead of activating -_- ... splat!

If you use this while stealthed, does it take you out of it? This is pretty much the deciding factor of whether I get the Whisperwalk Boots or the Duskbat Cape with +stealth enchanted on it from the quest The Azure Key
