Stood at 55,50 and caught a few. I was at 275 fishing skill with the reward from this quest Seth's Graphite Fishing Pole, and using a Bright Bauble... and still had fish get loose.

This was in Azshara, and the only place I've caught them thusfar.

The skilled req. has been so nerfed. I was able to fish here with 260 skill. Sure I failed sometimes, but I was still able to get enough lobster for me to get past 300 in cooking and I got 303 fishing here aswell.

Note: In the Bay of Storms area near the coast you CAN get both the lobster and the large mightfish, however the chance they drop are low as hell. However this area requires lower fishing lvl. The farther fishing spots have a higher chance, but also have a higher fishing lvl requirement.

Starting at 320 fishing, with a +5 pole:

on scalebeard's cave "not high enough"
with bauble - 10 mins 3 mightfish, 2 lobsters and assorted clams, yellowtails and firefins
back to shore to level up another 5 - "not high enough"
another 5 levels - 1/10 catch rate, (rest "your fish has got away") 1 more mightfish and lobster, assorted clams
another 5 levels - 1/5 catch rate, 3 more mightfish, 4 lobsters

Excluding the yellowtails, rockscale cod (about 10 of each) I had to throw away due to lack of pack space:

I found these guys pretty easy to catch right in front of scalebeards cave... I went in the cave and killed scalebeard (giant elite/rare turtle...)...then walked right outside his cave and started fishing... its been a little less than an hour and i have 45 lobsters...

these sell for about 32g for a stack in AH on my server so that makes for a nice little 66-75g/hr... not to mention all the fish I cought in the process

I managed to get some with fishing 273 (base), Big Iron fishing pole (+20) and the last 3 of my Aquadynamic fishing lenses (+50). Took me all 3 lures (so a half hour) to get 3 lobsters and a mightfish.

I wanted to try, at least... and get my cooking closer to 300 :-)

To fish in Azsara (beach etc) you need 205 skill to cast, 300 to avoid "get-aways", in Bay of Storms you need 330 to cast, 425 to avoid "get-aways". Effective skill (skill plus lures etc) of course.

On a recent fishing leveling trip to Azshara: Scalesbeard Cave this is what I came home with.

Started: ? Cant remember
Ended: 280 fishing level (unbuffed)

Darkclaw Lobster: 85 (52.1%)
Winter Squid: 44 (27%)
Stonescale: 13 (8%)
Big-mouth Clam: 12 (7.4%)
Large Mightfish: 4 (2.5%)
7Lb Lobster: 2 (1.2%)
21Lb Lobster: 1 (0.6%)

I have been able to sell these for a nice profit on the AH recently. There is a bottleneck in the Cooking leveling grind that you can use the Darkclaw for. For someone that has already leveled fishing or doesn't want to then they will snatch these up for a pretty high mark-up. I think I sold 5 stacks of 4 for 20g each.

I fished at the U shaped rock ( 53.58 ) for 2 hours starting at skill 340 with Big Iron Fishing Pole ( +20 fishing ) and equipping Bright Baubles ( +75 fishing ) every 10 mins and this is what i caught.
200 Darkclaw Lobster
74 Stonescale Eel
49 Winter Squid
44 Big-Mouth Clam
41 Large Raw Mightfish
15 Raw Spotted Yellowtail
5 Reinforced Locked Chest
2 7 Pound Lobster
1 19 Pound Lobster

I also fished Floating Wreckage for Achievement The Scavenger

At 279+95 (374), still getting about 50% miss rate (you'll need 425 to get no misses at all). 7 Large Raw Mightfish out of 84 successful casts (figure 7-8%). Darkclaw Lobster, on the other hand, comprised 45/84 (about 50-55%) of the catches. I was way out at 59,57, just south-southeast of Hetaera's Clutch.

You'll also catch a bit of Winter Squid (during the winter months), but nowhere near as much as if you stayed right along the beach.

Can someone tell me why these are worth so much? I can get 40g a stack on a consistent basis for these, however they are used in only one recipe which has no "Well Fed" buff or any other stat changes. The one recipe also requires an additional ingredient. Anyone know why these are so desirable?

I guess that they lowered the fishing lvl for Darkclaw Lobster. I'm at fishing 201 and caught my first lobster with no lure and a +20 fishing fishing pole.

i have 216 fishing and reg pole i fished for 10 minutes with out lures and got 7 darkclaw lobster and 2 winter squid. i then put a +100 lure on and got 6 darkclaw and 1 winter squid but i did get 4 large raw mightfish and 6 stonescale eel, and 3 big mouth clams and yea i did this all in bay of storms in azshara

I was never able to catch any darkclaw lobster here, until I found the whirling maelstrom.
It's a fishing node that doesn't seem to deplete.
Looks like wreckage and is out in the bay, no place nearby to stand, had to use walk on water.
In one session (until potion wore off) I caught 20 darkclaw lobster, 10 winterfin squid, and 2 large raw mightfish.

You don't necessarily have to be 'in' the Bay of Storms when you cast your lure, but where the bobber lands has to be or you won't catch these, so you have to be careful where you cast if you're fishing around the very edge between the bay and the beach. If you're standing on a rock that's on the edge between the beach and bay part of the zone, make sure you cast your lure towards the bay, because casting towards the beach and your bobber may not land in the bay.

fishing level 226 rod +20 just managed to catch it, not high percentage but even at well below origional fishing skill it is still a catchable fish

With the new fishing system you can fish anywhere at any skill.. So what I would do if I was ONLY after this fish. Id buy
some fishing lure's and nightcrawlers as well. And just spam fish in these waters, only thing is that you need to go back and forth to train artisan etc.

Fished for these in Azshara on the rock at 71, 54.5 with starting Fishing skill at 264. I used a fish attractor for the 10 minutes that it lasted, and this is what I got during that 10 minute window:

16 Darkclaw Lobsters
8 Winter Squid
2 Large Raw Mightfish
2 Sickly fish
2 Tattered cloth
2 Tangled Fishing Line
1 Driftwood
1 Rock
1 Stonescale Eel
1 Heavy Crate
1 Reinforced Locked Chest (Requires Lockpicking 250)

Overall I was really pleased - I was farming them for cooking, and 16 Lobsters and 2 Mightfish in 10 minutes was pretty darn good in my opinion. Also, I leveled my Fishing to 269 during that 10 minutes.

14 Jan 2011 Data above is correct. L52-53 mobs on the beach. Swim out to one of the mounds sticking out above the water off-shore. As well as lobsters, expect to land Stonescale Eels, Large Raw Mightfish, Zesty Clam Meat (from Big-Mouth Clams). This area seems to have replaced Azshara since that zone was given over to bad guys.

Co-ords in Soulfire Singer's post above of 71, 54.5 confused me at first as when you look at them on the map they look like they are in a Fatiuge area but it's not. There is a large rock there where you can fish and the drop rate on Darkclaw Lobsters, Large Raw Mightfish, & Stonescale Eel is very good although you do fish up quite a bit of rubbish it's still a great spot.

Misty Reed Strand (73, 9) where the beach party is going on in Swamp of Sorrows is an excellent spot for these lobsters. Also, there is a flight point, Bogpaddle, is located right there.

Since Cataclysm, the Bay of Storms is still abundant with Darkclaw Lobster. I stood on a rock (that I'm naming Jaz Rock after myself) at 47, 52. Majority of catches were the lobster and some Big-Mouth Clam. Happy fishing.

As of 4.1 the best place I have found to fish for the Darkclaw Lobster is on the coastline of Swamp of Sorrows, with fishing level at 300 with Bone Fishing Pole I have almost a 50% drop rate

Confirmed. As of patch 4.1 I have not been able to get any Lobster from Azshara.
After one hour of fishing and trying every spot marked on comments from this page,
all I have been able to fish are in frequency : Raw Rainbow Fin Albacore, Raw Slitherskin Mackerel, Oily Blackmouth and with low probability, a few boxes that are unlocked.

Does not seem to be found anymore in Azshara.

Same for me, I spent a half hour fishing in Azshara in the bay and I caught mostly Rainbowfin Albacore and Slitherskin mackerels. I got one Dented Crate containing a copper modulator. And nothing else at all! My fishing is at 505 and I was usuing Bone Fishing Pole. I'm heading to Blasted Lands to try there.

After failing in Azshara I tried Blasted Lands. I tried the docks of Surwich but it didn't seem to drop there. I went slightly east of Surwich (just on the other side of the 'river') and got it the first catch.

OK so I was having a real hard time trying to get this in Azshara, despite all the comments above. After spending a long time in Azshara with no luck I went to Swamp of Sorrows like some others here suggested...and BANG! 2 casts later plus a Stonescale Eel towards my Oceanographer Achievement!

Seems as if the goblins have polluted the waters of azshara too much for the lobster to thrive... after an hour of looking at comments on here and fishing in different spots i gave up. GOOD NEWS! The lobsters have moved to the shore of the blasted lands, 70,78 was a great spot for cathcing Darkclaw lobster along with Summer bass and stonescale eel.

18May2011 STAY OUT OF AZSHARA. The comments above refer to .. what .... BEFORE or AFTER Cataclysm? All I know is...stay out of Azshara. U-shaped islands? Between to 53/54 Elites? As at 18May2011, I couldn't see these features, but I wasted HOURS trying to find the D/C Lobster. Wasted time! Blizz have screwed the world as we KNEW it. Head for SwampofSorrows ... I caught the D/C Lobster on second cast. (I also caught LgeRawMightfish same location on third cast) along with heaps of other fishies, which no longer appear in Azshara).

19May2011. AZSHARA IS NO LONGER A VIABLE PLACE TO FISH unless you want L1-L5 fish. The Wowhead map above is NO LONGER TRUE. For DarkclawLobster and LgRawMightfish, go to shoreline of SwampOfSorrows ( I caught one of each within first 3 casts). Winter Squid? Still looking but fer sure, they ain't in Azshara.

I apologize for hijacking your post, but it is for a good reason.

To those of you fishing for hours upon hours in Azshara to catch this fish, stop now. Since the Cataclysm expansion came out, Azshara was changed to a low level zone, and consequently, fishing in the area is now low level. Darkclaw Lobster, Summer Bass, Winter Squid, and Large Mightfish can no longer be fished here.
The Blasted Lands is now a good area, or any other level 50ish area.

I have been fishing these up in blasted lands at The Red Reaches area...since azhara has turned into the goblin's startin area the fish there are lower lvl ones...enjoy hope this helps out

Took the portal from Stormwind to the Blasted Lands, flew to the beach by the Murloc's, threw my line in and within a couple of casts I had my lobster.

Don't go to Azshara! There is nothing there anymore!
After Catalysm you have to go to Swamp of Sorrows!
To the far right side of "The Sunken Temple"..(Temple of Atal' Hakkar) just at the edge
of the map is a big stone...from there every second catch is a Darkclaw Lobster!

As of patch 4.1 this "Fish" no longer drops in the Bay of Storms. The best place is to go to the "Swamp of Sorrows." There is a little rock at 97,48 (right to the right center of the map). You can fish from there with nothing to bother you except a neutral lvl 50. I Got a full stack with about 5 extra fish in about 10 minutes. Real easy to get. Skip Azshara as it is now a low level zone.

After Cataclysm, Swamp of sorrows is the place to fish these up. I caught 2 stacks in a little less than 30 minutes. My fishing level is 450.

After the CATA upgrade i found the darkclaw lobsters in the blasted lands - at Surwich on the south end of the dock in the dark water. this is for alliance dont know about the horde. seems to be the same kinds of fishing as in Azshara before CATA.

My fishing level was 635 (525 + Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat + Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole)

Possibly my fishing level was too high or it was because I was Alliance (or both).

Moving to the coast of the Blasted Lands, I caught the lobster on the second cast.

as of 8/14/11 it seems Blasted lands is the best place for these. Fished in Azshera for at least an hour and got none, went to Blasted lands and my first two casts had Lobsters.

I went to 71.54 rock and fished for 10 mins - and not even 1 x Darkclaw Lobster droped. Either i`m unlucky or this doesnt drop here anymore. Being a item lvl 45 - 55 i`m going to guess u can fish these in : blasted lands and swamps of sorrow only. I`m going to test swamps of sorrow and see if i have better luck there.

Fished Azshara at all the specified coords...nothing but rainbow fin albacore, slitherskin mackerel, oily blackmouth. Go to Blasted Lands and fish any open water..landed 21 lobsters in just a few minutes.

Post 4.3, the best place to fish for these is still Blasted Lands.

The Red Reaches, which is the coast line running along the Southeast part of the zone, is the best part to get them. You know you're in the right spot if you see Bloodwash Naga all around you, leading a trail of Murloc slaves.

I went to SofS next to the ship off the coast with a fishing skill level of 1 just to try it out and so far have got to 75 skill level and have 5 lobsters......and 70 trash. Certain that as skill level gets higher the drop rate increases too....

On the little island in swamp of sorrows at 88,80 I fished for 5 minutes (was chasing Winter Squid). In that 5 minutes I got ten lobster. Seeing as it's next in cooking after squid, I'll be coming back here if I need more, for sure. Great little spot.

Off the coast of Swamp of Sorrows by the beach party just north of Bogpoddle
Had 251 fishing to start off with using strong fishing pole (+5) equipped with Heat-Treated Spinning Lure (+150) for the 15 minute duration of it. Now I have 269 fishing. Great spot

For those of you working on your cooking in the Old World "Pre-TBC areas": Baked Salmon, Lobster Stew, Mightfish Steak, Runn Tum Tuber Surprise and Smoked Desert Dumplings all turn Yellow at 300. Oddly enough I don't have any Green recipes between these and the Grey ones. Not sure how quick it is going to be to level up cooking to 375 without being a high enough level to go into the TBC areas.

thanks to the new fishing system, fishing these up is a little bit more of a pain cus now you fish up some trash even with a good pole and lure, probably go to swamp of sorrow for less trash than blasted lands.

also has anyone noted how these can be eaten raw? i mean raw fish is a thing yes, but is eating a lobster raw even possible much less not a bad idea?
