I'd assume you'll be vulnerable to Shackle, Turn Evil, etc while using this, since you'll be immune to the other CC. Just make sure you don't fight a Holy Paladin when using this skill. Yikes.

because the tool tip says undead it would only make sense that the DK will become vulnerable to a Paladin and Priest, as these are the premier anti-undead classes in game. Plus with all the lore, paladins and priest are essentially anti-death knights. this is a talented skill which basically makes the DK like a warrior. if the DK can use his anti-magic shell while in this form, it would greatly mitigate any paladin-specific spells (holy wrath, exorcism), while still being able to be effectively controlled by another class, hopefully keeping the "omg that's OP" complaining to a minimum.

Yeah, as far as I can tell theres no reason why abilities specificaly for undead would not work against someone under this effect.

Just like how druids are subject to beast-specific things when shape-shifted.

If you get shackeled, you can click the buff (Lichborne) away but it will not cancel the shackle already cast on you. Simply don't use this when fighting a priest or paladin, and save yourself using a CD only to click it away for no real obvious reason.

now it's put in the frost(tanking) tree and i guess it makes more senses in a way as it will probably find more applications in pve than pvp(unholy tree) that is.Still it makes me die a little more inside as a pvp aficionado and i still hope that blizz will find a way to counter ranged classes(especially lock) kiting methods.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the Death Coil talent already says you can heal yourself and other Death Knights, regardless of whether you are undead or not.

Ret paladins have dot now when they crit with their Judgement and Divine Storm that may break Turn Evil spell if you get cough in it during Lichborne.
The chances are low that it break from one dot but it's better then nothing :P

Lichborne + Glyph of Death's Embrace + Full RP bar = 5x Death Coil heals ^^ (only recommended against non-Paladin/Priest)

I popped Lichborn against Ret Pallies just to lure them to use Turn Evil so that I can lock them out of all their spells. It was very effective.

And then I met a ret pally that had Glyph of Turn Evil :(

Nobody's really commented on the lore aspect of this talent. How do you "become undead for 15 sec"? Don't you have to die and be resurrected as a ghoul or something? And how do you become living again once it's over? It's a cool talent, but when you think about it, it doesn't really make sense. Of course, this is a game with magic and whatnot, but this seems not to work even within the lore of the game. A Death Knight is not undead.

Rofl...seeing as how the damn ret paladin are so tough i'd say Turn evil are the least of your worries...once it finishes you could do worse than to just keep running..unless of course you're actually trying to kill them. If that is the case then just make a cancelaura macro similar to what paladin have used forever to wipe curses. bubble cancel buble.... Lichborne cancel lichborn works just the same.. Or even an elaborate
/castsequence target=self Lichborne, deathcoil
/cancelaura lichborne

or something to that matter. I went blood so this spell doesn't apply to me but it's simple game mechanics and you can easily use it to your advantage no matter how terrifying it might look at the getgo.

Lichborne works just like the old WotF, except lasts 3x as long (15sec vs 5sec), definitely a prime choice in pvp specs if you can spare points

it DOES break fear/charm/sleep when you are affected by them so its amazing in any DK vs warlock fights, tested this already in some duels

and you are considered undead, so deathcoil heals (you need to macro it or manually target yourself for the spell), you can also be shackled and affected by those crazy paladin anti-undead spells... kind of a tossup vs priests, you will get by the fear but if they are smart they will just CC you until the effect is over, so be careful

I'm not really sure WHY Turn Evil work's against this talent, it's daft really.

'While undead, you are immune to Charm, Fear and Sleep effects'.

Must be another case of exemption like the Paladin's Immunity of Divine Shield vs a Priests Mass Dispel.

Game mechanics or not, it's just poorly designed.

First of all, smartass, you've never seen me play the game, so you can't judge whether I'm a noob or not just by my posts on Wowhead.

Second, there's a difference between a living creature running in fear (Fear mechanic) and an Undead creature running from Holy energy (Turn Evil mechanic):
Something that runs in fear is intimidated, and it's afraid of dying or bodily harm (Undead, not having the same senses as the living, have no reason to fear death or pain).
Undead running from Holy energy are doing so because they know that it's going to *!@# them up big-time. Ever seen what happens to a Vampire that gets splashed with Holy Water?

With fairly decent gear, and trinkets with avoidance on uses, it is possible to have complete avoidance using this for 15 seconds. Just something to keep in mind/macro, as it's saved my ass before (plus it's a lot of fun when soloing heroics/old raids).

Lichborne is

off the GCD
a good way to get that priest or warlock down quickly without having him mess you up with his aoe fear

But as many have mentioned it makes you vulnerable to Priesty shackle, Paladin Turn Evil and of course Exorcism.
To me, Lichborne is a nice pvp skill I usually can find a point to spend in, I would not recommend using it against any kind of paladins (I'm intentionally leaving priests out here because 1. Shackle has an interruptable cast and 2. Most priests dont have that ready in pvp). It is indeed very useful to finish off a foe or just make it easier to heal yourself up... After all, it's just one talent point :P

No, you will stil be turned. You can however cancel it before Turn Evil is cast to cause it to fizzle, but once you're turned you're turned for the duration.

I think Will of the Forsaken should be like this, makes you count as "Undead" which makes you immune to fear/charm/sleep but also makes you vunlerable to Paladins and Priests... Might still be overpowered for a racial but would be awesome, maybe they could buff other racials aswell to balance it out (Stoneform making you immune to disease/poison/bleed again).

This spell coupled with deathcoil basically gives a DK a LoH ability with a 2 min cooldown that takes up 6GCDs to 'cast'. When glyphed of course.

My level 64 DK with under 7k health can self heal for 25k in that 10 second span.

Very good to use vs enemies that will fear you. You do become Undead which means Paladins would own you, but you shouldn't be firing this vs a Paladin anyway, as there is no reason to. This is an ability to blow vs Locks and Priests(Immunity to seduction+Fear). You could be hit with Shackle Undead after wards, but if he's already put dots on you, he'd just break his own CC.

Sad part is the graphic. Instead of giving us an awesome looking Undead model during the duration(Like Noggerfogger but with armor), they instead just put a stupid head over us. It's a lazy cop out. Total lack of effort there. You don't "feel" like an Undead when you look exactly the same except for a hovering skull over you. It should turn you into a damn Skeleton for the duration.

Talent Analysis
Charm, Fear and Sleep effects constitute effects which elicit the loss of control of your character (not including stuns and horrors). Immunity to these is obviously a boon. The effect of becoming undead is two-fold: firstly, it allows you to use Death Coil to heal yourself. However, it also makes you susceptible to damage and crowd control centered around the undead, so be cautious.

In soloing, this can provide an avenue of healing for DKs, though you would probably opt for a Death Strike in preference, especially when glyphed. In Raiding and Dungeoneering, a DK tank may some use as a self-heal opportunity with DC, or as a pre-emptive to mitigatable crowd control. PvP DKs will see use of this as a prophylaxis for many crowd-control methods, and an opportunity to heal oneself on the fly.

This doesn't make you vulnerable to Control Undead. It'd be pretty useful if it did, though. :P Enslaving members of your own class who (for whatever reason) use this against you would be pretty interesting.

6.0 changes to this talent:
Lichborne makes you immune to Fear, Sleep, and Charm effects, and grants you an additional +10% Leech for 10 seconds.

(Note that it is not supposed to make you undead, as it did pre-6.0).

However, as of 6.0.3, Lichborne still turns you undead, and thus allows Death Coil to heal you. It is unsure whether this is intended.

For those worried about frost losing the deathcoil+lichborne self-heal combo in Draenor just remember that it's based on runic power. Runic power is limited, and lets be realistic here, especially in pvp. It would be wiser, even as unholy, to SAVE lichborne for a casting polymorph or hex or break a CC, rather than using it as a self heal and draining runic power. For both PvE and PvP it would be wiser to dump runic power into Conversion (10 RP per second as frost), which can go well beyond 20% HP if you start it at full RP and continue to build more RP while it's active. No cooldown even when it's finished. This means infinite health, as long as you can counter CCs... which ties right back into saving lichborne for when it's needed most.

If you compare this to Bloodthirst with fury warriors they have it MUCH worse. A glyphed AND talented bloodthirst takes it off the global cooldown and allows for a 2% heal, if spammed constantly in melee (without howling blast remember?) it works... except during CC unlikeConversion, and it doesn't do any damage. Rogues have leeching poison, which they have to sacrifice for other poisons and is again only melee range, proc based, and doesn't heal them through stuns. Ret paladins have to hard cast, or talent an instant flash of light proc, or strait trade dps for healing with holy power, so they lose as well.

The only other melee classes that match up to DK would be enhancement shaman, and feral druid.

When it says "Leech increased by 10%," what is "Leech?" The spell details on this page says Lichborne has the effect "Apply Aura: Mod Leech %," but I can't seem to find the spell "Leech" that it modifies.

The WoWhead class page, Death Knight, doesn't list a DK ability called "Leech," only the talent Plague Leech, which doesn't seem relevant.

There's a page for a spell called Leech, which seems to be on the right track, but there is no indication how it works. Is it a baseline DK spell? Or is it one that varies by spec? Or is it triggered as well as modified by Lichborne?

An interesting lesser known interaction with Soulshape is that during Lichborne you're unable to use the ability, maybe due to the fact that Lichborne technically shapeshifts the death knight into an undead (or that the ability prevents polymorphs). Thought I would spread the word seeing as Night Fae DK is one of the least picked covenant / class combos!
