I consistently got disconnected when talking to Ba'eth while mounted. If this happens to you, dismounting before talking fixed it on my end.

When you talk to Ba'eth it puts you behind the desk and you have to start convincing folks. Just press buttons 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 in succession as soon as the timer cooldown allows and you'll complete the quest.

Me: Gather 'round everyone!
Bazaar Browser: Is that a lapbug? I haven't seen one in... I can't even remember how long!
Me: Marvel at the lapbug's cuteness.
Bazaar Browser: I used to have a lapbug! They are adorable. Let me have a look!
Me: You can symbolically adopt a lapbug at the Oasis and receive a card from them.
Market Patron: Did they say adopt a lapbug? I love lapbugs! Where can I sign up?
Me: Donate to the Oasis to help their conservation efforts, including lapbug breeding.
Me: Come to the Oasis and see the native animals of K'aresh. With your help, K'aresh can flourish once again!
Market Patron: I didn't realize the Oasis had lapbugs. Does that mean that lapbugs are coming back?
Market Patron: I'll go, my partner would love it.
Market Patron: There'll be lapbugs right?
Market Patron: I had no idea the Oasis was so far along.

This is really sweet, they were their pets, it's like dogs ceasing to be, and suddenly someone tells you 30 years later that there is a place where there's a few dogs. The brokers' reactions really moved me I'm not going to lie.

While this quest appears optional in terms of achievements (A Truth Universally Acknowledged marks off the lapbug chapter of Otherworldly Ecologist, and I think I could accept the followup chapter already) doing this quest unlocks more options to complete the weekly Ecological Succession, as now Visiting Brokers appear in the Oasis, which you can talk to for a amounts of progress varying by your answers.

If Ba'eth isn't visible, make sure that you've fully skipped the main "Knife's Edge" K'aresh questline on the particular character you're doing it on. You can't get to this quest without having completed Knife's Edge at least once in your warband, but if you swapped characters and forgot to take the skip, this quest is likely to be the first time you get stuck. The skip should be available from Om'en.
