don't go near the lava while doing the quest, it will reset your progress cause you "enter another zone". Stay near the items without moving

The game kicked me out during the movie after helping him repair the shield. When I was able to log back in no one was there & I can't get to the next quest.

Even if you recognize the damage it has done to you, a shield is far easier to reforge than yourself...

I don't see it mentioned here yet, so I will be the first to say:

During the cinematic, I really loved the subtle symbolism of Arator having reforged his father's shield with gold (or painting the seams gold), instead of making it seem like the shield was perfectly remade.

This is a centuries-old practice done by Japanese artisans called "kintsugi" (literally, "gold joining"). While the practice began likely from an aesthetic point of view, it has evolved to become a philosophical practice, too. Basically, a broken thing is not ruined for being broken: it is simply in a different state than before. To make the thing useable again, it must be mended -- but the mending doesn't decrease its value. It is believed that mending with gold instead adds value (and beauty). That the thing has more value and beauty now, being mended with gold, than it did before it was broken at all. I think an equivalent idea in English is something like "we are more beautiful for our scars". Something like that. Because this mentality can be applied to us humans, too, kintsugi has even grown into a meditative practice, too! I'm not sure exactly what is meditated on aside from the aforementioned concepts. I presume that depends on the person.

Anyway, it was nice to see this symbolism in the cinematic. It conveyed a lot without saying anything at all -- something I wish Blizzard did more of in WoW.

On a wholly different note:

After the cinematic, hearing Alonsus Faol run up to Arator and ask him, "Why do you still have the shield? Didn't you give it to your father?" was jarring in an amusing way (is there a word for that?). How surprisingly thoughtless of someone who previously seemed so emotionally intelligent. It's one of those things that you'd expect a child to blurt out at the worst possible time, lol!

No wonder Turalyon didn't accept the shield - the color scheme and design matches Arator's set - not his own! :D

The order of items is always the same:

Dust
Water
Ingot
Feather

If you stand in front of the items with the feather to the left, the order would be 2,4,3,1.

I'm going to nitpick something, but it's mostly for fun (it is just a game, after all and I read too much into things anyway).

I didn't catch this until now, but throwing water on hot (and nearly molten) metal is not how you cool metal, especially if you're shaping and (re)forging. The problem with using water is that it can dissipate the heat so rapidly that it could cause the metal to fracture and if it doesn't, it will cause the metal to become brittle. Not something you want from a shield. Also, water is highly volatile to sudden and extreme temperature changes and 1000 degree metal can cause water to "explode" and could possibly scald you. It's best to quench metal in an oil made for this kind of work because it absorbs the heat slower and it won't turn into a geyser.

So, whoever came up with this wasn't 100% wrong, you can quench while forging (in short, controlled dunks), but the water should have been replaced with oil and you wouldn't just throw it on the metal.

Try to make sure your voidwalker isn't standing on the feather, forcing you to come here to try to find out where the feather is. Then he moved.
