On PTR you could circumvent the Containment Trap 15sec cooldown on trapping elementals by also asking Firim for the Unstable Containment Trap and then use both, they didn't share a cooldown. Unfortunately examined elementals get a 15min debuff Research Data Collected, obviously to prevent examining a single one over and over again. I hope this will be changed (shortened), because right now it's faster (or mandatory, when everything is flagged) to kill those with the debuff to trap & examine their respawn (might end up in a disaster on populated Retail servers, some fast-clickers might try to examine elementals that other people trapped, especially on Gaiagantic)

Update:
In Build 9.2.0.41962 they shortened the Research Data Collected debuff to 7min and it is now player-specific. Several players can now examine the same creature and will apply their own debuff (this will look great on live servers *g*)

This quest ^&*!ing sucks and is just another critter-esque quest from korthia. you can't even interact with elementals that were studied by others, the debuff is shared.
the go-to is to probably group up.

You will get Containment Trap and can ask 1 from questgiver if you haven't received it.
This quest also unlocks the Completing the Code

If you can't complete Gaiagantic part there you can try to kill it and wait for respawn.

Drop the Containment Trap in front of a Forgotten Geomental.
Once the trap is active, click on the Overgrown Geomental to get x/12 Geomental Examined ("Research Data Aquired").
He will remain trapped for about 20 seconds.
While he is trapped, other players can get credit for research data.
You can kill it while it is trapped after you collect your data.
Once he becomes untrapped he will aggro on you.
You can use the trap on him again if you want to, but you can't collect anymore data.
You may as well kill the mob and loot the corpse because you can't use him again for more data.
If you try, you will get message "No new data aquired".
If you have mining, mine the corpse for a small chance to get Progenium Ore.
If another player is fighting a Forgotten Geomental, you can trap it and collect the data.
Do the same thing for Gaiagantic anytime while you get 12/12 Geomental Examined.
After you collect his data, you can run away or kill him.
You can use the trap on him multiple times if you want.

Hi all

On THis WQ You need to examined mobs by using Containment Trap. First you use Containment Trap ( throw under mob ) them come close to mob in trap and press on him.

You need to do it for:

- 1 Gaiagantic 60 64
- 12 Geomentals NPC's

You can't do it twice on same mobe in short time.

I found if you deselect the Geomental before the Examining cast goes off, the Research Data Collected debuff will not apply and you can immediately examine the same Geomental.

Every day, make it a habit to grab from Firim Firim's Spare Forge-Tap and Unstable Containment Trap.

When this quest comes up, you can alternate between the item that Firim gives to trap the elementals Containment Trap which has a 15-second CD and the unstable one to speed up your questing, and move far from the trapped elementals before they break out and start fighting you.

Little tip. If you target something else close by immediately after you have right clicked to "gather research" The debuff goes on the critter your targeting not the elemental. So you can actually spam one to get all 12 done in one trap.

Works best if its a Raptora that is vertical from you, such that you will agro it if you fly but don't if your on ground. I usually do this around the pools (60,72).

Might even try an interact with target mouseover macro.

If you are on the quest chain "Reap what you Sow" Reap What You Sow

Its possible for Gaiagantic to not appear, because of phasing.

So either finish the quest chain, or /target gaiagantic and range pull him before he phases.

I encountered a bug where I couldn't get credit for examining Gaiagantic; whenever I tried, I'd get a "no new data" message instead. Killing him and re-trapping/examining the respawned version fixed the issue.

Some people are killing the automa, not sure if intentional or not. You don't need kill them! Leave them for the rest who are doing the same quest.

Do note that if you have the fairy GLIMMERCANES quests active in this area the big one, Gaiagantic, despawns when you come close to him. Finish Glimmercanes waterquest and he won't despawn.

I honestly believe that this quest was made by some sociopathic sadist at Blizzard, because:
a) the target area is very small and more often than not you will miss a moving target;
b) the item is on a 15 second cooldown (what's the point?);
c) the trap won't trigger if you launch it from an elevated area (as hill or a rock);
c) you can't use it from a mount if it's not on a ground (it won't dismount you or cancel travel form -- have to do it manually).

This is a terrible quest, why put a 15 second CD on something that takes under 3 seconds to complete?
