There seem to be three versions of this quest: this one for demon hunters, this one for players who have killed Illidan in the Black Temple, and this one for players who haven't killed him. It's pretty cool that they acknowledge all three possibilities.

It appears to do the check for Demon Hunter before it does the check to see if you killed Illidan. I completed Black Temple as a Demon Hunter and this is the version I got for Destiny Unfulfilled.

So, for those who don't know HOW to actually GET to Outland post Warlords, for Alliance players, there is a portal immediately to your right as you arrive in the Mage Tower in Stormwind ("upstairs"). I've gone by it 100's of times and never paid it any mind. It's the portal to Hellfire Peninsula.

I've had a problem with this quest that I haven't seen anywhere on the forums.
I begin the quest normally, and progress through it without any problems whatsoever. The ending cinematic starts and finishes, as it should. Then, right on schedule, I'm teleported to the front gate of the black temple. But instead of receiving credit for finishing the quest, I'm greeted by Xe'ra, who informs me that I can START the quest whenever I'm ready. I've done the quest, in its' entirety, eight times now, and Xe'ra still isn't giving me credit.

I've tried abandoning the quest and picking it up again, with the same result.

I've noticed a different bug mentioned on the forums concerning this quest, which can be corrected by disabling add-ons. But I never had any add-ons in the first place. And I am being allowed to finish the quest all the way through to the end of the final cinematic. I just can't get credit for it.

As a side note, everything else about this quest is awesome.

Can ANYONE come to my rescue with their great wisdom?

@Iceman5: I encountered this bug also, getting teleported to front gate with no quest completion. Xera was not at front gate. I turned off DBM addon, then went to Dalaran. However, I was able to turn in the quest for credit.

Well excuse me you self-righteous sanctimonious windchime, "You, who sacrificed everything for your world" for the demon hunters, but me, a Death Knight, you berate the hell out of me, saying that I need to be redeemed for my sins?

I gave my LIFE to save azeroth. The very intro to the Death Knights say so "A hero, that's what you once were, you stood boldly against the shadow, and purchased another dawn for the world..... with your life". What have demon hunters given? they fled azeroth, leaving it to its fate, to go play edgelord with illidan in the ass end of nowhere in the galaxy, then spent the last 10 years or so locked away in a box while I bled time and again saving this world from the lord of death, the old gods, the titan's misshapen creations, and the time-traveling shenannigans of a raging douchebag.

Who are YOU to judge me? I gave my life and my soul, damning myself to an eternity of torment and pain, just so this world could continue to exist.

Gee all these comments just to find the place and work out what quest you got or whether its bugged or not . . . . . . . pretty sad isnt it and bliztard are making a fortune amid all this confusion!

As someone who really likes Illidan's character and who was waiting to play as a demon hunter again since the days of WC3... I'm not very fond of this questline's undertone.

Don't get me wrong, it's a really great questline. It shows Illidan in what is, for me, the proper way. A rather machiavellian character, selfish but also, in his own way, noble. He is perhaps the most dangerous foe the Legion ever encountered, but he is also a power hungry sorcerer whose hands and soul are far from clean. His "betrayal" of the night elves might have been misunderstood, however he is definitely guilty of other crimes. That's what I always liked about Illidan (well, and the artwork); he isn't evil incarnate like the Lich King, Deathwing or the demons of the Burning Legion, but neither is he a force for good alone. He fights the Legion at every turn, and may care for Azeroth and its inhabitants (especially Tyrande; you'd think he would move on in ten thousand years) in his own way, but by no means is he innocent of atrocities himself, and neither are his demon hunters.

While that is shown quite well (how Illidan sacrificed the night elf mages, for example, shows both sides of his character remarkably well and gives someone who hasn't read the novels insight on how he thinks), Xe'ra's ultimate conclusion and accusation towards non-demon hunters as well as her near-reverence of the Illidari are disturbing. Yes, Illidan might not be an evil monster as portrayed, but neither is he without many, glaring flaws, and same thing goes for his followers. They have sacrificed of themselves, but they have also sacrificed others. In the same manner, while the rest of the adventurers might have been guilty of vilifying and taking down Illidan (even before the rest of his backstory was revealed it was known that Illidan was at war with the Legion and I personally always found how we ended up taking him on as the ultimate villain a bit unsatisfying) but there is no denying that they have saved the world many times from a lot of threats. The Illidari fought at the frontier, their focus the Legion, attempting to take the fight to the demons. Quite an admirable goal indeed, but that doesn't mean the residents of Azeroth waited there drinking, only taking a break to kill Illidan before returning to their partying. The Legion might be one of the greatest threats, but in the meantime someone has to deal with necrolords, forces of ancient buried evil, mad dragons and crazy warlords.

Ultimately, in the context of the game, what the quests' conclusion should have aimed at is acceptance of the past and understanding for the future, not elevating the Illidari to perfection while pointing fingers at everyone else. The idea is to redeem Illidan and his followers in the eyes of the world, but not to vilify the world in turn. It's a bad end in what for me was otherwise a good questline and I feel it devalues the fantasy behind the character I play. I didn't sign up to play the misunderstood saint, I signed up to play the "beat the Legion at any cost" bastard. Again, I'm not gonna say the questline sucks, rather the opposite, but I think the ending could have been handled a bit differently.

Check for Blessed Medallion of Karabor in your bank somewhere; this teleports you very close to where you need to be for this quest. (The item is a reward from a quest chain which involves finishing Black Temple.)

Again, as with the Ravenquest's Legacy scenario, you must disable CT Mod before beginning the scenario, or you'll get a very weird blinking and a rapid up and down motion of your action bars - and won't be able to use the abilities given to you. BUT, the cutscenes will play, and you will finish the scenario without finishing any of the objectives. If you do disable it, the scenario will work as planned.

There are three versions of this quest: Destiny Unfulfilled (QuestID 44481) if you already killed Illidan, Destiny Unfulfilled (QuestID 44496) if you haven't and QID Destiny Unfulfilled (QuestID 44497) for Demon Hunters and Hunters. There are a few things that can break the scenario. If you have trouble completing it check for this:

- The addon Deadly Boss mods will skip cut scenes and throw you out of the scenario prematurely, the end video sequence where Illidan says "Tyrande" is triggering the quest as complete (disable addons or disable skip cutscenes in /dbm options)
- Pet Classes won't get credit if you attempt it while the pet is summoned. This mechanic / bug / limitation has been around since classic, basically your pet will get the credit if it gets the last hit (Simply despawn pet before entering scenario
- If you did Black Temple for the first time that week, shortly after accepting quest 44496 this may cause a bug where you complete the scenario (after your status with Illidan changed) but are not awarded completion credit at the end because you had the wrong quest for your progress with Illidan active, abandon and restart the quest will fix it, the NPC will then give you the updated quest ID
- And obviously, can't complete it while in raid, don't try to complete this while you wait for your Argus raid to fill up ^^

Description

Hardly recognizable from the golden eyed child of prophecy, and living as an outcast on the fringes of a shattered world, his motivation remained unchanged. His assaults on the Legion and his attempts to end their march were his only focus.

Yet, in a strange twist of fate, it was not the Burning Legion who came for him in the end.

We must travel to Outland to experience Illidan's last memory.
