Helpful hint to those currently on this quest in the Beta: If you are dying over and over again, simply tag the boss once and allow the NPCs to kill the boss.

This quest line is available at level 100+, but appears to require a certain amount of your Order Hall Campaign to be completed.

This is the first in a quest chain as follows:

Completing these quests unlocks a tint for your Classic Artifact weapon skin.

A Falling Star

This quest is picked up from Archmage Khadgar in Dalaran, in the Violet Citadel. After this, you will take a flight path at Krasus Landing that takes you to Suramar.

Once you land, you will be on a beach, and you may notice an Abandoned Ballista or two, and a Jandvik Banner.

If you are level 108 or less, I would ADVISE AGAINST clicking the banner! This banner is a a Rare mob encounter, which spawns a few waves of mobs, after which King Morgalash spawns. This banner/mob encounter has nothing to do with the quest!

This is what you want to do instead (make sure to do these steps in order, rather than going straight to the cave!):

Search the crash site - head to , which is due east of the island. Swim down to find the area (Looks like a swirly spot in a crevice on the ocean floor)*
Investigate the Cave - The cave entrance is at .*
Mysterious Lightbound Object - kill Yorg Murkmouth in the cave, and loot Mysterious Lightbound Object.

*Watch that you don't run out of breath!

After you return to Dalaran, you turn in the quest in the Chamber of the Guardian (take the port at the center of Dalaran).

Bringer of the Light

The completion of this quest is in spoiler tags, for those who want to figure it out and complete it themselves. I've listed what happens next, as well as tips for completing this quest.

Khadgar opens up a portal to the Exodar, and taking it starts the scenario "In Defense of the Exodar". As with any scenario, you can right-click your portrait and "Leave Instance Group" (even if you are solo) to leave and start again.

Step 1 is to find the Prophet Velen in the Vault of the Lights. Just make your way to the area marked on the map, killing demons on the way. If you happen to aggro a bunch, just kite them to Velen, as they will be incinerated by the dome of light surrounding him.
Step 2 involves A) Rescuing 12 Terrified Exodar Citizens and B) Destroying 8 Fel Portals.

All of the portals are marked on the map, and there are many more portals than you will need scattered through the Exodar.
When doing this step, its best to skirt your way around edges of the rooms. If you stand in the middle of pathways, the stream of demons running towards Velen can easily aggro and overwhelm you! Find corners and alcoves that avoid the steady stream of mobs that spawn.
Beware of patrols, as there are groups of demons all over the place and its easy to get overrun.
Terrified Exodar Citizens are typically around the edges of rooms, corners, behind structures/boxes, in covered rooms, etc.

Some are children, so are smaller and easy to miss
They are marked on your minimap, so this a great way to track them down
Extra (Optional) Stuff:

BONUS QUEST: There is an extra quest available from Farseer Nobundo at 44.8, 9.4 in the Crystal Hall. This grants some gear and XP; it involves surviving 3 waves of demons, then killing Karzak the Impaler after these waves. As a DPS class doing this, it was quite a challenge! Mobs spawn frequently, and you must rely on the NPCs to help (i.e. stay near them). Farseer Nobundo will also heal you.

When you are to face Karzak the Impaler, I would suggest saving all of your DPS cooldowns (or healing, for that matter) for this encounter. The NPCs tank him, so dying is not a concern; rather, if this takes to long, Nobundo will bite the dust and this quest will fail!
If you want to complete this optional quest, you MUST pick it up before completing the Step 2 objectives (Portals and Terrified Citizens) or else it will not be available!
There is an (optional) bonus objective active during the scenario (you'll see the objective progress bar). Completing it by killing demons will net you some gold and experience.
A rare spawn NPC (Huk'roth the Huntmaster) was found at in the Trader's Tier. He is surrounded by Felhounds, which can be killed in smaller groups to avoid being overwhelmed.

He drops Order Resources and Huntmaster's Injector
Step 3 is to return to Velen, and allow him to examine the Mysterious Lightbound Object
Step 4 is to escort Velen to the Seat of the Naaru
Step 5 involves defeating High General Rakeesh. There is a very interesting reveal that occurs through this - I won't say what it is though!

Other commenters stated that you can tag High General Rakeesh and let the NPCs kill him, but doesn't appear to work anymore - you have to fight him yourself. That being said, it seems they may have made this encounter more manageable, as the NPCs do help, and will heal you.
After this, simply use Khadgar's Beacon to return to Dalaran.

Light's Charge

After completing Bringer of the Light, you receive Light's Charge, which has you return Light's Heart to your Order Hall. At this point you unlock one of the tints for your Classic Artifact weapon skin (part of the criteria for Fighting with Style: Classic).

When you start hearthing out, a bunch of draenei run in to talk to Prophet Velen. Cancel your hearth and listen to the monologue! Port out when its done.

But to kidnap a child, train him for thirteen thousand years, and then have his own father kill him?

Couple of quick notes that some may find helpful.

If you take damage while closing a portal (4-5 second cast), it will completely interrupt it. So close portals when you are no longer being attacked. Classes with pets can use this to their advantage.
When you close a portal, a friendly Draenei trio spawns. They will heal, DPS, tank for you if you drag mobs close to them. Use this to your advantage. This scenario at 102 is pretty tough.
The portal next to Velen (NE) sucks to shut down, it is constantly spawning, so clear around it, avoid the Felguards that path through it and then close it.
Close portals around the rare elite Houndmaster before you engage him, drag him to one of the closed portal Draenei flags. It will make it significantly easier to kill him.
Wait at the edge of the ramp. Velen will float down the ramp and cleanse the fel corruption as he goes. Don't be an idiot like me and rush ahead, only to get killed from the fel damage.
The last boss can be killed by the NPCs, if you are too weak to kill it. So tag it, and wait. A long time. You wimp.

Finishing the chain of three quests will also unlock tint # 3 for the base skin of your artifact weapon.

This quest is bugged. I killed High General Rakeesh, but didn't get credit in the scenario and was stuck at the last step after Velen did his speech. Really don't want to repeat the whole thing.

Despite what Velen said, we need the Draenei and the Exodar - without them, there'd be no Light.

In "Rise of the Horde", you'll notice that Draenei left Argus 25000 years ago (plus change, the time they spent on Azeroth). Any child of Velen would be 25 millennia old at least.

Khadgar saying 13000 years is simply incorrect.

To the commenter of my comment: Kiljaeden never got his hands on them before Draenor. That is also stated in the novel.

The Fel Annihilator controlled by Rakeesh.. If you die, it will reset. It's easier to auto-attack it and let Velen tank it. It only takes a couple of minutes.

God damn it blizz, it's a scenario I am not sharing with anyone else. Why can't you let me save all the innocents?

I get my 12/12 terrified and run around a corner to see a tiny little draenei girl standing there. However since it's completed I can't help her. Just have to leave her.

Khadgar opens up a portal to the Exodar, by taking it you will starts a solo instance, the Scenario: Battle for the Exodar

Stage 1 – The Prophet and the Butcher: Seek out Prophet Velen in the Vault of Lights.

Simply open your map to find his location.
You can mount but there will be lots of demons so be sure to avoid them until you make your path to Velen
Stage 2 – In Defense of the Exodar:Rescue terrified citizens found throughout the Exodar and destroy Legion fel portals.

BONUS QUEST Nobundo's Last Stand will appear in your map in this stage. As soon you start it, four(4) weaves of demons will come and then a final Elite Boss Karzak the Impaler. Keep mobs away from Farseer Nobundo and If you are healer remember to heal injuried npcs while you help them to kill demons. ALERT!: You can complete this Bonus Quest ONLY during this Stage 2
A RARE NPC SPAWN Huk'roth the Huntmaster in this stage too. Clear a bit some of its companions. There will be some friendly NPCs close to the location, they are very strong and you can use them to help you, just bring the mobs in their direction
While you destroy Legion Fel Portals, if you don't want waste time killing/clearing demons just avoid or ignore them, keep running, they actually will stop following you at some point, good tip for healers!
For rescue terrified citizens, best and faster spot for me was Trader's Tier, in fact there is a stairs at 69.4 83.0 to a structure where you can find 6-8 of them all together without being attack
Stage 3 – Return to the Prophet:Return to Prophet Velen in the Vault of Lights.
Stage 4 – The Light's Heart:Let Prophet Velen examine the Mysterious Lightbound Object.
Stage 5 – A Long Way Down...:Speak to Prophet Velen, then escort him to the Seat of the Naaru.
Final Stage – Revelations...:Defeat High General Rakeesh.

If you want to restart this scenario just right click your portrait and find the option "Leave Instance Group" to leave and start again.

Also Bugged for me. I got stuck and had 2 issues during this scenario.

1) I closed all the portals before reaching 100% on the meter for the 'Fel Annihilation' Bonus Objective portion and it disappeared as soon as I closed the 8th portal. I didn't receive any rewards (no xp). Be sure to complete the Bonus Objective first!

2) Upon returning to Velen, I followed him all the way to the Fel covered stairway where he cast his Divine Shield and then promptly fell the through floor into the interior and I couldn't interact with him nor complete the scenario.

Even dying didn't help. When I rezzed, Velen was still stuck somewhere below the floor.

EDIT: If you want to reset the scenario. Drop the quest 'Bringer of the Light' and you will be ported out to the Chamber of the Guardian where you can pick up the quest again from Khadgar, and take the portal into the scenario from the beginning again.

Is this bugged for anyone else? I apparently walked away from Khadgar so he never summoned the portal. Going back to speak to him now doesn't work either. Do I need to abandon the quest?

I had to log out after finishing the part with the portal closing (with the extra quest and the rare kill). When I logged back in I was at the Dalaran portals and back at the beginning of the quest. I saved the citizens and closed the portals again. Nobundo's quest and the loot from rare spawn were not available to me the second time around - just as one would guess - even thought he NPCs were there.

This quest ending provides proper context to ending of 4th Legion comic Anduin: Son of the Wolf, where Anduin together with Velen in Exodar prepare for final battle.
Since Exodar has been immobile for so long (and we had no reason to suspect it'll ever move again), it seemed like last stand on Azeroth. But now we know better.

Also, if we consider comic as foreshadowing, Anduin being so old means Argus being final raid of Legion is nearly impossible.

The end of this scenario right before you fight Rakeesh is hilarious if you're a warlock. Like everyone else, your first two class hall champions show up to help. However, being that you're a warlock and all...

For all Hordies who've never been to the Exodar, you can mount up inside :) And if you're interested in the lore, the pink hologram statues depict the demons they tried to escape from when they crash landed here. There are a ton of Refugee's to rescue in the Trader's Tier. See the screenshot.

There is a purple stairway in the Traders Tier @ 69, 83 which leads upstairs and has quite a few "Terrfied Exodar Citizens" in it and no mobs for those that wish to find some "grouped up".

(You can see the stairway on the map also - bottom right corner).

Mages, you are not yet powerful enough to use your own portal to enter Exodar. If you truly wish to complete this quest, only the portal of Archmage Khadgar will get you there. Seriously, Prophet Velen has no clue why you're there if you take your own portal.

There's a silver elite demon inside the Exodar you can dispose of while running around closing demon portals & rescuing terrified citizens. This time through, on my DK, the friendly NPCs killed said demon before I could even get close. I waited, he didn't respawn. I am REALLY hoping any loot he might have dropped would have just been vendored anyway. Dumb NPCs stealing mah kills.......sheesh.

If you use vanish or shadowmeld during the last fight it resets the whole fight...I shadowmelded to get velen off me so he would attack the other to but then everyone despawned.

If by any chance you leave the scenario in the middle of it, don't go back using the Exodar ordinary portal located at Dalaran, otherwise you'll go back to the regular Exodar, not the scenario one.

Can't find him? He is in the middle of the area where you normally find him (Vault of lights). He is behind a barrier with a lot of other Draenai. Coords is 34.1 66.3 inside the scenario.

The final step of this quest involves returning the Light's Heart to Dalaran. Although it will appear on the ground near Velen, you cannot pick it up. However, when you use Khadgar's beacon and turn in the quest, he will magically pull the heart out of your Pocket of Holding.

This was a point of confusion for me.

The Death Knight version of the last fight is hilarious. Unlike the other classes, your champions will not show up until after the last boss is down. Thassarian will apologize and explain that Nazgrim had to strangulate every demon along the way and says that he's having second thoughts about him.

If you try to glide above Velen as he goes to confront Rakeesh, he'll despawn. Relogging means you have to redo the scenario. Joy.

Go into the middle of Dalaran to port into the Chamber of the Guardian. Khadgar is in the northwest room offering the quest again and a portal to the scenario.

If you close the portals around Huk'roth the Huntmaster and pull him near the near the closed portal where Draenei npcs spawned, they help heal and tank him making it easier for squishy classes to kill him.

Not really helpful to the event as a whole, but something to ponder.

When Rakeesh says (as you begin to fight him):

In my master's house smolder the burning husks of a thousand worlds. I am here now to prepare a place for you amidst the ruin of tomorrow.

He seems to be giving a twisted quotation of John 14:2, which says (wording varies depending on which version you're reading, of course): "In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you."

It seems far too close to not be deliberate, but it leaves me wondering what it means for the characters involved.

The very end of this quest is fairly humorous for a warlock. In addition to the "This is awkward" already mentioned, when you place the Light's Heart on its little altar in your Order Hall, a nearby demon pipes up:

Dreadscar Archivist: Uh... Mistress...
Dreadscar Archivist: Is this a prank? Am I being pranked? Very funny, mistress!
Dreadscar Archivist: This isn't a joke? B... But this is the heart of evil and darkness in the universe! Surely, you can't be serious!

I'm not sure regarding DPS classes, but during the scenario, if you're a healer, or a tank, you can help Farseer Nobundo in a sub-quest North of the Crystal Hall, to protect him and his people. It's a simple "defeat the waves" deal.

It's similar to the proving grounds. Heal the NPC's, or tank the waves of adds. I've done it on a Brewmaster and a Holy priest, but didn't see it when I did the initial scenario the first time around on my hunter. Though I wasn't looking for it then.

I... really don't understand the ending. Velen thought his son was dead, he'd basically forgotten about him, so why does he give a #$%^ about us killing him to save the Exodar? Even for a Draenei, having a strong enough emotional attachment to someone who's been dead for 13,000 years to flip out, pack up, and go home is kinda insane.

I would wish that Blizzard would have made the questing text and dialog different for Draenei players as doing it on my Draenei Paladin should be different than doing with my Orc Shaman or Warlock in terms of flavour.

A fun (but kinda slow) way to get the bonus objective of killing demons is to stand just inside the shield, do a ranged attack on whatever is approaching the shield then laugh as they obliterate themselves on the shield ;)

Buggy short leashed BS again. If you're standing just a short way in front of Velen, within shooting range as a hunter but not in melee range of Rakeesh, derp, reset. If you FD, derp, reset.

Doubly fun when he despawns and Velen is still beating on you.

Apparently ~~non-$%^&*!@~~ Beastmaster and Marksman hunters will need to get in melee range or it derps. Yay.

...or it could be really broken and reset on you when you're standing on his foot. Lovely.

Hopefully last edit: Ok, it seems you have to get his aggro first. If you send in the pets, as hunters do, he aggros on it then resets. If you go in and smack him once you can then send in the pet and have an actual fight.

For paladins, Lady Liadrin and Lord Maxwell Tyrosus assist you against Rakeesh. There's a small quip between Liadrin and Velen that reference the events in Burning Crusade.

Probably worth pointing out that the loot ilvl here scales with your character level. Base ilvl is 680 but looking to do it a few levels later on an alt and it appears to reward ilvl 743 stuff. Might be worth leaving off this until 110 for a quick easy jump towards better ilvl overall.

It wasn't until my 13th time running this scenario that I finally noticed the very carefully hidden Easter egg. If you look carefully at the center of a portal while you're in the middle of channeling its destruction, you may spot the silhouette of a fuzzy, floppy-eared friend(?). Perhaps the origin of the Darkmoon Rabbit has been revealed?

Has anyone had the fight for the boss happen and then only after you kill him THEN your class hall companions spawn?

I have done it multiple times with different characters and they all do the same. I even waited a few seconds before and no companions till after I kill the boss.

If you look very closely at the center of a portal as you close it, you might see a small shadow of a bunny.

This quest can be frustrating with the mob : player ratio. You can get ganked crossing area to area. Once you're on the close portal/rescue Draenei portion, I found success in going back up to the Crystal Hall and working my way around in a counterclockwise pattern.

If you left the instance without using Khadgar's Beacon you may not see Khadgar at the Chamber of the Guardian but you can go to Violet Citadel and complete the quest with him anyway.

I just wanted to note that as of 2/2/2018 this is still bugged. When I got to the 'A Long Way Down' segment of the scenario Velen basically floated up into the sky and I can't talk to him. I can't run up or down to try to trigger the next step. A quick google search brought me to a first bug report in 8/2016. Over a year and my only options are to restart? Unacceptable -- and very unlike blizzard devs.

I will try what the other commenters said here about skipping it but I refuse to do this ridiculous scenario again. Over it

My mini guide to Bringer of the Light / In Defense of The Exodar (subquest) / Purpose of the Mysterious Lightbound Object (major questline) discovered:

I REPEAT YOU DO NOT HAVE TO KILL THE MOBS (SUBQUEST) TO COMPLETE THIS QUEST ENCOUNTER. (if you do it is like a 50K exp boost) in addition to completing the quest itself.

I have done this encounter multiple times now and am currently doing it on my mage. This quest should be optional as it is really boring. Also just tedious to have to do all this stuff and the payoff is mediocre at best. Here are some tips:

If you are doing it below 110 avoid the bosses to complete the quest, just tap the portals and rescue people.

It will go faster if you mount up and run away from big mobs as there are terrified citizens near almost all the portals you need to tap. If you focus on one area you will inevitably have to move when you run out of citizens and they are everywhere.

Bring potions in case you can't avoid stuff and it will just go faster.

There isn't much experience gain other than when you complete the Bringer of The Light quest. 63,050 exp.

Unless you are higher iLVL I would avoid the big bosses like Rakeesh and Huk'roth who are in amongst the mobs and protected,
it is a fairly major fight if you are under 105.

This scenario contains two special, semi-hidden quests, as well as a special dialogue event between Prophet Velen and the members of "Light's Chosen" after completing the scenario.
Both the quests and the event can be really easy to miss, so here they are, so you don't miss out.

Quests:

During the scenario, there are two special quests available, that can only be accepted and completed while inside the scenario. Please note that these quests become unobtainable once you start on stage 4. Your best bet is to complete then during stage 2.

These are the two quests:

Special encounter:

After you have completed the final stage (defeat High General Rakeesh), you are given Khadgar's Beacon (check your bags) that you can use to teleport back to Dalaran.
When you use the item, you start a special, "secret", dialogue event. This event only seems to appear it you start casting the teleportation on Khadgar's Beacon, and quickly cancel the casting before you are teleported out of the scenario.

The event starts the second you use the item, but the dialogue is delayed due to NPC interactions, so if you don't know it's there, you are likely to have teleported out before you can see anything happening.

NB:
The special event ONLY seems to start if you attempt to leave the scenario by using Khadgar's Beacon. Trying to wait, using the "Leave instance group", or attempting to use of any type of hearthstone, teleportation or portal don't seem to activate the event.

Event dialogue:

Divinius says: We came as soon as we were able! Thank the Light that you are safe, prophet!
Prophet Velen says: I am neither prophet nor pawn. Not any longer.
Prophet Velen says: Did Romuul survive?
Divinius says: Grand Artificer Romuul yet lives, sir!
Prophet Velen says: Good. Find Romuul. Tell him to begin repairs on the vessel. We are going home.

You should note that if you leave the scenario and hand in the quest, you can't access it later. If you haven't handed in the quest, and missed out on the quests or the encounter, and want to complete these, you have to abandon your quest, and do the scenario again.

To speed up the scenario a tiny bit, after talking to Velen start in the Trader's Tier. There are relativly more easy to find citizens to rescue there instead of running all over to find them. Don't forget you can mount up as well.

Is anyone else having problems completing this after patch 8.0? I'm trying to do it on my 109 Shammy and keep getting one-shotted by the fel Annihilator.

If anyone's hesitant before clicking on the portal next to Khadgar, you do NOT actually get the beacon in your bags before you take the portal. I kept wondering if I was supposed to click something in the room, didn't want to be stuck in the scenario since I'd just used my dalaran hearthstone. It appears in your bags right at the end of the scenario.

A few things about this instance not mentioned in the comments (unless I missed something, lol). I did it with my 108 Troll Shammy, all decked out in questing greens and blues, I-Level just 155. Only died twice. I'm a slow player, so it took me about an hour. I only have limited time to play, so maybe this will help some of the other casuals.

Some features that might ease your mind if you're not a hardcore player with all kinds of high-powered armor are 1) if you do die, when you release, you spawn fully alive and healed standing with several friendly NPC's. No having to run back and be ganked by mobs patrolling around the area when you can resurrect.

2) I got the impression that even when I had mistakenly aggro'd four or five enemies (usually the fel-hawks?, who run around in packs and seem to have fairly large hitboxes), I was able to AOE them down fairly easily, almost like they'd been nerfed for low-lifes like me. I usually didn't even have to blow a cooldown to do this, really unusual in my case, I assure you.My order hall bodyguard was MIA the whole time, too!

3) Don't be hesitant about using friendly guards. One time I jumped down from an upper level, in order to skirt some mobs who were patrolling the ramp, and I came down right on top of Huk'roth the Huntsman and his pack of beasts. I just kited him over nearby to where I had re-spawned after dying, and the NPCs there helped me down him and all his minions. No great loot drop, alas.

4) As the instance goes on, there are fewer and fewer enemy mobs, why I'm not sure. Toward the end, it was simple to run around to where the minimap told me there were terrified citizens to rescue. As others have said, the Trader's Tier is full of them. Some are on the upper levels.

5) At the end, I stopped attacking and hit escape to un-target the very second Velen told me to, but he turned on me anyway! I was standing there confused for a second, and he suddenly stopped and went back to weeping over Rakeesh.

The take away is that if I can do this thing, so can you!

This starts the lengthy, annoying rants from Velen, the biggest windbag in all of Azeroth! I like the quests okay, it's sitting here waiting for him to QUIT TALKING that drives me up the wall! And then, my personal favourite, after he is done reading his novel to me, he tells ME TO HURRY, I usually yell at my monitor at this point "I WAS READY TO GO TEN MINUTES AGO!". ;)

I was in the middle of fighting the last boss and then just got kicked out of the instance randomly for seemingly no reason. Guess I wont be doing this quest.

Since the Pre-patch for shadowlands this boss is unbeatable for me (alt mage lvl 35) before the patch i had almost no troubles with this quest at all. now me AND my allies (kalecgos and modera) are dying. did they miss to downgrade this boss or what?

Decided to do this quest on my hunter as I want the mount and Velen bugged out at the end of the ramp. Instead of being able to talk to him he just leaped into the air and stayed there.. Didn't find a fix for it and had to redo the whole scenario *sigh*

am i the only one who cant enter the instance? the loading screen doesnt charge at all and at the end is says "transfer aborted: instance not found"

Archmage Khadgar just isn't there. I figure if the quest, Bringer of the Light, starts and ends with this guy he should be there. If there is more to it, that information should be included.

If you're doing old content like me. Right now you have to do the new Harbinger questline that they just added. Khadgar will not offer this quest until its done. GM's saying I had to go talk to Khadgar like I didn't try that.

Anyone having issues turning this quest in? It says to turn it in at the Violet Citadel but with a down arrow....went to the sewers and didn't see any turn in options. Might be bugged from TWW but just thought I would ask.

It seems like for Khadgar to spawn to turn in the quest, you have to have also finished the worst quest in WoW history Rending the Runes. The steps listed in the quest comments are still valid and I checked it against a 1 year old YouTube.

So if you are having a hard time turning in Bringer of the Light, make sure you finished Rending the Runes. He should spawn after that in my experience.
