For the item Essence of Pure Spirit the Blind Marshes in Highmountain have a phasing part to them. From what I've seen there are 3 possible phases.

1. Seabound soldiers and officers (elven ghosts)
2. Seabound Reavers (Vrykul)
3. Seabound Mystics

I've yet to figure out what causes the phases as I saw the first when I went there originally, then the second when I came back and then back to the first when I visited a third time, all within about 1.5 hours. I've yet to see the phase with the mystics but have read on the wow boards it is there. I'll hopefully see them soon and update but the quest text in beta does not reflect any special requirements.

Update: Logged in to find mystics all over the place. It seems they and the reavers share the same spawn points so you can quickly tell if they are up. Note that the Reavers are humanoids while the Mystics are Undead.

This quest is available to Beast Mastery hunters and is given by Image of Mimiron at Trueshot Lodge. It requires you to kill specific enemies to obtain components for the Essence Swapper. The items needed and enemies are listed below;

Stormy Gland - Squallhunter(Squallhunter Whelpling Adult Squallhunter Juvenile Squallhunter), Stormheim
Pristine Harpy Feathers - Stoneblood Harpy (Stoneblood Elderwitch Stoneblood Ravager), Val'Sharah
Reflective Scales - Hatecoil Naga (Hatecoil Stormcaller), Azsuna
Essence of Pure Spirit - Seabound Mystics (Seabound Mystic), Highmountain

Getting the items is a matter of kill until it drops. I spent a while killing enemies thinking there was something I was missing because the item wasn't dropping, but it turns out it is just a low drop rate. Just keep killing until you get it.

nonstop killing for about 25-30 minutes just for this item..saw phasing issues as well. Entered a dungeon and when I came back I could start killing the quest mobs

I have noticed that there are three kinds of clickable ground spawns. They are Virid Husks, Dormant Wisps and Serpent Idols. There are also three phases in this area. Are there two things related?

My BM hunter is level 110 and never received the quest. I can't find the quest giver. All hope is lost!

To go along with what other people are saying, if you get to the area where the Seabound Mystics are supposed to be but only see the Seabound Soldiers/Officers, wait until the next hour begins. For example, if it is 4:49 PM server time and there are only soldiers and officers around, wait for it to hit 5:00 PM. Chances are you'll see a bunch of Seabound Mystics spawn. That's how I got my essence. Low drop rate but still got it.

Check for the Image of Mimiron NPC at the base of the bottom of the ramp to the Dalaran portal in Trueshot Lodge once you hit 110. You must speak to him first, going through a few dialogue options, before the quest will appear.

You will not see a quest marker when he first appears in your Hall, you must talk to him to trigger it.

Confirmed that you do NOT need to be BM spec in order for the items to drop. I got one to drop while MM spec, and it took about as long as it did for one to drop when I was BM spec (roughly same number of mobs). I've done 2 parts so far, and both required around 10-20 kills before the quest item dropped.

No need to gimp yourself if BM isn't your primary spec/spec with the highest number of artifact power ranks.

When doing this quest, make sure you are on Beast Master spec.

Uncertain if it was just bad RNG or wrong spec but I killed 10+ Hatecoil Spitespeakers on Marksmanship spec and the scale didn`t drop. Then switched to BM, killed 3 of the same mobs and it dropped.

I turned in the quest with the Image of Mimiron and he did not give me Essence Swapper. Not only that, but he DISAPPEARED! After wasting a lot of time, I finally realized the problem...I was not speced as Beast Master. You have to be specialized in Beast Master when you turn it in, you can do the whole quest in a different spec, but to turn it in and get the item you must be Beast Master.

The drop rate for Reflective Scale is low, but it can be farmed easily and (relatively) quickly from Hatecoil Spitespeaker as there is one which respawns instantly, just over the bridge at 59.0 38.8.

For what it's worth, I wasn't getting the gland from the squallhunters when I was killing juvenilles and rampaging ones. The first adult I killed dropped the gland.

Essence Swapper is rewarded from this quest, Image of Mimiron can be found to the right of the scouting map on a holopad, simply approach him while in BM after reaching 110 and he should offer the rather grindy quest.

currently Rampaging Squallhunter is plagued with phasing issues so the fastest way to get the Stormy Gland is to farm Adult Squallhunter.

Hmmm...
Stormy Gland? That only dropped off the Adult Squallhunter for me. It took longer navigating the landscape (vertical) than it did killing the dragons.

Pristine Harpy Feather dropped fairly easily. Only about 15 harpies screeched at me.

Reflective Scale - only one Naga Brute. And many, many murlocs gurgled their last gurgs.

When it came to the Essence of Pure Spirit, however, there was no Seabound Mystics to be found anywhere. For 6 hours. Nada.

I read elsewhere (on this thread - Khadular) there is to be 3 types of mobs cycling through here on the top of every hour. So I waited. I hopped realms. I read Facebook. I read Twitter. I killed what was here and made some gold. I was somewhat bored and tamed some new pets. Still nothing. I put in a ticket to see what was up. Will update.

Finally after using the Server hop addon twice i went back to my realm and killed like 30 mystics and finally got that essence. Also I saw where someone said you only get it during the day.. thats wrong because i got mine at 2 am in the morning my time and server time.

I was worried a few days back that this would take a long time, but I got my Essence of Pure Spirit off of my first Seabound Mystic. Either I'm incredibly lucky, or this was hotfixed.

I just handed the quest in whilst specced as marksman. The image of Mimiron never appeared and I had a hand in quest marker in a random corner of the hall. switching to beast master spec then re logging fixed this issue and Mimiron appeared when I rejoined.

I'd say incredibly lucky those that scored the Soul Essence quickly!

Killed at LEAST 30+. (At least made some gold!) Finally checked here to see if I was doing something wrong.

Pure Essence was the worst. Harpy's/Naga took about 20ish each, and the Scale about 6.

If you are struggling to get the hold of the Seabound Mystic, try realm hopping until you see them. Then tag one of them and leave the realm as you hold the agro. This will force the phase to stay put, and you may go around in the Blind Marshlands picking out the Mystics. It worked for me, at least! -Actually, this hopping technique worked out for me 4 times, leading me to think that this was not a coinsidence. I had to kill around 30 mystics to get Essence of Pure Spirit.

Disgracefully bad quest that Blizzard should be ashamed of.

The problem lies with the Essence of Pure Spirit. Firstly it only drops off Seabound Mystics which in themselves only have a CHANCE of being in the zone at any particular hour. Unless you are stupidly lucky or resort to server hopping, good luck even seeing one.Next the drop rate of the Essence even after you find a Mystic must be around 1% because I killed the best part of a hundred before mine dropped. All of this is compounded by a zone choked with useless mobs every two steps that make even exploring it a pain in the ass.

All in all I am at a loss how this made it to beta let alone live. I almost want hold up a doll and ask Blizzard where the Hunter touched them inappropriately. That's the only logical explanation for a quest this sadistic.

After 3 days of trying to find Mystics following the suggestions here, I went and farmed up the other items. Immediately upon returning to the Blind Marsh, it was full of mystics and I got the essence on the first kill. Not sure if it is coincidence or not.
Prior to getting the other items, I hadn't seen a single mystic on my realm and had only seen a few while realm hopping.

I started the quest with Stormy Gland and killed over 30 drakes - zero stormy gland. Then after the Essence of Pure Spirit. Very frustrating as there were no Mystics anywhere and I killing everything. Read in an earlier comment that there could be phases when Mystics appear so left and returned several times over 4 days - no mystics. Then went after the Reflective Scale - 20 Hatecoil later - zero scale.

Went after the Harpy Feather - 10th Harpy and boom - got the feather.
Went back to the drakes - 5 drakes in and boom - Stormy Gland.
Then to the Hatecoils - 6 - 7 kills and got the Scales.
Back to the Marshlands - Mystics were finally there and 15 or so kills later got the Essence from a Mystic walking on the path on the southern most end of the area.

Maybe there's an order that the items have to be collected in - ? Just seemed much easy after the Harpy feather.

So I really think I am missing something painfully obvious. I cannot find any info on how to actually start this quest. I have done all of my order hall campaign.. The only Artifact quest I have is for Essence of Power which is raiding.

Does anyone remember how this started?

Honestly, this quest is a bit ridiculous. The hardest part by far is getting the Seabound Mystics in the first place, and then hoping it'll drop off them. Luckily I had some insane luck as I got it off my first Mystic kill and then the others dropped fairly quickly. I'd recommend starting with the Mystics just to get that out of the way, as the other mobs are easier to get at.

ok, On my server i ran around for a good hour never saw a mystic. I finally hopped to a another server and there was completely different mobs set in the area and several mystics. The mob set on the server with mystics was seabound anagogue and weeping wisps. On my server it was Seabound captains and some other stalker things Not sure what wierd phase thing is going on but I would say hop til ya see some wisps and there will be Mystic galore

08:20 Banshees gone
08:35 no change'
09:20 found serpent idols that were clickable i clicked a few nothing happens
09:40 wrote this report on wowhead

The TRUE way to get the Seabound Mystics to appear.

No hocus pocus here or random nonsense.

This is about phasing.

Server hop until you are in a 5 man group (not a raid) that phases you onto a realm where the Mystics are all over the place.

That's it. The only way to get this. Unless you happen to already be on a realm that has them there. If you're reading this you're probably not on one of these lucky servers.

This will work. Finding that group may be difficult. Get a server hop mod and narrow the search, especially to "auto-invite"

You'll get it. It took me a few minutes of searching then 10 kills or so.

Come to Blind Marshlands area for the first time, wander around kill things, see only Seabound Captains and Officers, get confused, come to Wowhead and read what others here say about having to realm hop, go back to game, open group tab to look for a group....get attacked by a mystic...ALL the mobs changed while I was not looking at the game. It's all mystics and anagogues now. I'm extremely lucky apparently and very confused as to why they did this this way.

Contrary to what I've seen some people say on here and on the official forums, the Seabound Mystics DO NOT only spawn at night. I've spent a week and a half just having my hunter camped at their spot and logging on to check periodically anywhere between the hours of 8pm - 5am server time and never saw them...but finally today at 1pm server time (meaning the afternoon) they finally spawned for me. This is not to say they don't spawn at night, but they will definitely spawn during the day.

It took me a long time just to get the Essence of Pure Spirit. I went in a circle around the entire questing zone and killed all the soldiers and officers(After reading into it I assumed there were phases to this, still not sure if there is.) Eventually I got tired of that and seen someone say that they had logged off and logged back in and found them. So after awhile I tried the same thing and when I logged back in after a few seconds I seen them finally. Problem is I killed quite a few until I actually found them. Watch because there are ghost that appear to me mythics but are not. They are called Seabound Anagogue's they do not drop the item as far as I know. The Seabound Mythics are not difficult they do however spawn undead minions which if you pet doesn't aggro will aggro straight to you, so be careful if you try too many mobs at once like i did. It was all Soldiers and Officers. Waited until the start of a new hour... nothing. Queued for Horseman, finished that instance, came back... all Mystics. Zone hopping FTW

On my hunter the quest appeared straight away but I'm curious what were the dialogue options. =(

SUPER annoying quest. Especially the part where you have to collect Essence of Pure Spirit. As written in comments here; you have to be lucky enough that the zone is in the right phase for the right monsters to spawn. I had to check back like 5 times over the course of a couple of days. Even if you have the right phase, the drop chance is still pretty damn low, and the respawn rate of the monsters as well. I had to clear the place of Mystics for about 3 times before the item dropped.
I think it's rather stupid that a quest this mandatory has such a broken system. I don't play BM myself, but if you don't want to be followed by a sparkling dog for the entirety of an expansion, I'd say this quest is mandatory.

My issue with this quest is some what different. I saw the seabound mystics after I was in a raid group for a world quest. I left the group but still the seabound mystics did not register the quest. If I hover over the quest details are not present. I logged out and back in, to ensure that I leaving the group was acknowledged. Still the same. I have changed zones, and came back still the same. Anyone see this before?

It appears now that they have changed spawns and all items are obtainable at any time.
Big thanks to all above comments though for spawn points for easy harvesting, as most items take 25+ kills to loot, however I just completed the quest in just under one hour!

Ok so here is how I finally did it.

1. Download the Server Hop add-on.
2. Find a server that has the Seabound Mystics up (Even if it's a raid).
3. Pull one of the Mystics and while you have aggro leave the raid/party.

You should stay in the realm and be able to farm the Mystics until you find it.

Make sure you also kill the Seabound Anagogues as they share spawn points with the Mystics.

I tried this before having the add-on but it would just phase me back into my own realm so it seems the add-on keeps you there somehow.

Just wanted to add something here today for those struggling with finding seabound mystics. This is what I tried today and, which worked. I joined a random group on another server using 'group finder' that was listed as being in the same area of the map I wanted to be on, namely Highmountain. Immediately upon joining said group, the area I was in (Blind Marshlands) changed instantly. The mobs that were there (seabound soldiers) changed into the seabound mystics I had been searching for for days! I left the party and hunted until I got the part I'd been so desperately searching for. That was it. I believe with recent changes that were made to realm-hopping, you need to already be in the zone you are going to be hunting in. I don't know that this will work for everyone but, it sure worked for me.Good-luck and Good Hunting!

First, I would like to say I rarely bother to log in to comment on any quests, but this one is...special.

Short version: High Mountain. Mystics (essence). Keep checking back until they appear and kill them like crazy until you get an essence.

Longer version: Sometimes I wonder if there is an evil Blizzard employee that comes up with these extra evil quests and laughs at our frustration (kinda like the other guy who makes embankments Juuuuuuust slightly too steep to ride up).

Here is what I found. First, I tried doing this a bit on my own. I found 3/4 items needed for this quest were reasonably easy to get by going to the area it drops. Then I got to Highmountain. The item it wants us to get there is Essence of Pure Spirit. Those drop off the Seabound Mystics. After alot of frustration looking for them and seeing nothing (after several runs), I looked it up. There are different ideas as to how we should go about getting the Essence. Some say there is a shared spawn pool, others say come at the top of the hour, or whatever...

Here's what I did. I tried some runs killing stuff/exploring in the quest area (both top of hour and not). Then I camped the area at the top of hour hoping something good would happen. Nothing. I then tried a new idea. I used my main and alts. When they had the Highmountain quest to ride along the ley line on the mana saber, it would always end in the quest zone so I used that advantage. The mobs do not attack you when riding the saber for the leyline quest. AND the saber runs fast. I used that to quickly scout the quest area at the end of each run on each toon. I finally got lucky on my priest, and immediately logged into the hunter and rushed down there. It was about 5+ min until the top of the hour when I arrived on my hunter. I quickly found my mystic, and killed it. I then looted? (...what the.....)...it. Trash. huh? (oh no...!).

YUP! You will probably not get the Essence on the first kill. Just hope there is no one else doing stuff in the same area (especially another Hunter!). You have to kill mystics until one drops it. I had to kill about 16 mystics until it dropped (FINALLY!).

I started before the top of the hour, and ended after. There was no noticeable "reset."

HERE'S MY ADVICE:

Occasionally check for mystics. If they are not there, leave! When they appear, KILL LIKE CRAZY UNTIL ONE DROPS THE ESSENCE. That's it. Done. Do not bother trying to kill stuff to make them spawn. That is extra misery none of us need.

Like camping a rare spawn to tame as pet, I just logged off at the marshlands. Then checked whenever I logged on to see if the Mystics/Analogues had appeared. Second time I logged back in (after some hours) there they were. Took maybe 8-10 Mystics to get the drop. Easy Peasy.

Overall this took me about an hour to do (most of which was reading comments on Wowhead) so THANK YOU to all who posted tip n tricks!

1- i searched each of the four items and read the top few comments
(for example, Seabound Mystics only spawn at certain times in certain phases = use realm hop addon / manually use custom groups, or the insta-spawn Hatecoil mob in Azsuna)
2- did what they recommended
3- got it done painlessly and quickly

All in all a painless quest to get a unique item that adds flavor to my Hunter gameplay.

I just really felt to make a comment on this after a miserable time of not being able to get the Seaborn mystics to appear. Well let me help you out very easily.

Get the addon 'Cross Realm Assist' and go realm hopping incredibly easily. Honestly, on my first hop I was lucky to directly enter a realm full of Seaborn mystics. It required 33 kills for me to finally obtain the item.

Update: While I was at it.. I could get the naga one and the dragon one without CRA and had the naga scale one in about 22 kills and the dragon only required about 17 kills. I don't remember the other one.

Or well, I mean, an item to make your pet look like Hati?
Because, as I see it, Hati looks fine and is in no need to change appearance. However, most of the pets you can tame could use a facelift :P

Ok, so the issues I am having is that I can't give the items to XR9-47. I click on him and the cast bar activates, but I do not get anything from him and the quest does not complete. Am I doing something wrong?

After 4 days of waiting the Mystics finally spawned on my server. There are currently shambling corpses, the demon hound things and soldiers/officers spawned, none of these are mutually exclusive.

The only things spawned that i have not seen before are the Seabound Anagogues. So keep an eye out for these guys and mystics should be around.

This is the dumbest quest for artifact. It's not like even the last quest for the weapon yet it is stupidly hard. The drop rates for the GD essence of pure spirit is non existence because the freakin mob never freakin pops. Taking all the advice...coming back camping for a couple hours in the day then at night...clearing the place holders and other trash but no! Do you get a pop have rough 4 days no heaven forbid you doing something else but waiting your time in this stupid place.

I completed this quest in roughly 15 minutes with flying. Start to finish, from picking up the quest to getting the Swapper in my bag. Maybe they fixed all the drop rates that people are complaining about? Maybe I'm lucky? Maybe people are impatient? I killed less than 5 mobs per quest item... *shrug*

Notes: You need to be in Beastmaster spec, inside your order hall, at level 110, and you do not need to be geared. Once you've checked off those boxes, step near the hologram pad and the Image of Mimiron will appear without a quest. You must first click through Mimi's dialogue and when he's done you'll get your exclamation point on his head. After you've gathered your items and return to Mimi in your order hall, the robot standing to Mimi's left will create the Swapper. It then hands it to Mimi, so don't run off, it takes the robot a moment. Quest completes with Mimi though.

Is it me or do these quest items not actually go into your bags? I randomly got 2 of them while doing other quests. My quest log shows these pieces as complete 1/1, but they are nowhere to be found.

Honestly, this wasn't too bad. I just checked every time I went back to the order hall for class missions since it was close. Probably ended up checking every 4-6 hours. Seabound Mystics popped after three days and I had the quest item within ten kills.

I used a hunter BM alt (level110) to do this quest, went fine, got the reward. Haven't used it yet though.

Now I log in as another hunter (still 110, still BM, same server even), decide I'd like this ability as well on this character. I go to the Image of Mimiron, but there's no quest! Oh, he compliments me on my weapon, wants to know if I want to switch my pet back ... but I can't get the Essence Swapper! I don't see it on any of this character's abilities or bags either.

What's going on?

For the Reflective Scale you can find a Hatecoil Spitespeaker in Azuna at coords 58.9, 38.6 that instantly respawns. Kill and repeat until the item drops.

Just got this on my void elf hunter, in patch 7.3.5. Expect for it to take 20 to 30 minutes, depending on drops. You HAVE TO farm Seabound Mystics during realm daylight hours. If you go down there at night... you will not see any.

Other than that, it was not too painful to complete. Took about 20 kills or so to get the drops in each zone.

This post is to make things super easy for people when it comes to the Seabound Mystic farming. No need to wait and keep checking back for hours or days on end!

If you do this during your initial Artifact quest line, Navarrogg will send you on The Tainted Marsh. For this quest you must kill and cleanse the above mentioned Seabound Mystic. So, by necessity, they will be in the area in plentyful amount for you farm for the RNG drop of Essence of Pure Spirit.

Ok Guys I think i found the fix ...make sure u have war mode WM ON..this did it for me ..i had a friend come to phase me in on his realm ...but when he got there he had wm on and seen them ...but i couldnt ...so i went to SW turned wm on and came back and i could see the Seabound Mystics that i needed for the quest item ...gl

The comment left by desius is correct: the Seabound Mystics spawn during the day.

I couldn't get the Essence of the Pure Spirit to drop, killed the Mystics for ages. Swapped to Beast Master spec and it dropped within a couple of minutes. Don't know if this had anything to do with it, but since it's a quest for Beast Masters there might be something in it. That said, I got the Stormy Gland while I was in MM spec.

Can confirm that, at least as of Shadowlands, the item from this does NOTHING to your pets. Hopefully this saves anyone from wasting their time like I did :)

THIS QUEST IS IMPOSSIBLE AT THIS TIME. I HAVE LOOKED FOR THE SEABOUND MYSTICS ABOUT 80 TIMES, USING WM ON/OFF, CHECKING AFTER RESET, WAITING 72 HOURS, CHECKING ON THE HOUR, ETC. - NOTHING WORKS..

I'd like to say that I was able to loot the Essence of Pure Spirit from a Seabound Mystic, at night, realm time and night time in the area. I was in the area earlier in the day, killing the mystics for 30 minutes and no luck. I logged out there. It was night when I logged back in and the mystics were still there. Super quick, I got it after my sixth kill.

Turn ON Wardmode, took me ~25kills to drop, but trust me: it does drop.
(Warmode OFF phase had no Mystics spawned).

I don't know why this works, but yes turn on warmode. I spent three days here looking for the mystics with no joy. Came here, saw the suggestion to turn on warmode, thought why not. Teleported to Org, turned it on, warped to Dala, flight to Trueshot, flew down, and mystics all over the shop. 16 kills, and I had the essence. Bizarre.

I didn't have any trouble finding the mystics just now with warmode off (10 PM realm time), and even when running around killing a bunch of them, they seemed to respawn at a fairly reasonable rate. It took me a similar amount of kills to get the drop as others have mentioned.

So far had no luck getting the mystics to spawned, I've tried warmode on and off, at both midnight and 4pm realm time.

A New Invention

I should be able to create an item that allows you to change the appearance of Hati, but the components for such an item are rare. The Squallhunters from Stormheim have a Stormy Gland, and the Stoneblood Harpies near Thas'talah in Val'sharah have Pristine Harpy Feathers that I need. The Hatecoil Naga near the Ruins of Nar'thalas in Azsuna are said to have Reflective Scales, and finally I need an Essence of Pure Spirit from the Seabound Mystics in the Blind Marshlands of Highmountain.
