Before you attempt this quest, please think twice about just rushing headlong into the center of Suramar to begin killing things. 1) They hurt. A lot. 2) Not every Nightfallen you kill can be used for this quest. Learn from my mistakes...it was a long few corpse runs.

You'll get a quest eventually that asks you to basically do a Masquerade party there. Wait until your permanent Masquerade buff (not the one from the mask) to do this. You'll be transformed into someone that is far easier to roam around with. Once you do, you'll realize some npcs are green to you, others are yellow, and others are yellow BUT you can also click on them to attack them.

It's aggro-palooza here, and the second you fire off a spell, it drops your disguise. It may take a very long time, but if you hide off in a corner where no one patrols, you can just pick off a guard, kill him, heal, and do it again when he respawns. The respawner on the beta is really not all that slow.

Unfortunately, I don't have coords on the beta, but if you look to the left hand side of Suramar City where there are two circular blue buildings on the map, just to the right of Felsoul Hold, if you position yourself between them (which ends up being the corner back-side of a building) it's an opportune place to safely pick people off.

Also, heads up, after doing this four time, each wand use has only given me 1 Phial per use. So you're in for the long haul.

Ignore all that, better place is the Sanctum of Order on the Northwest edge of Suramar, a medium sized blue ball. It has a bunch of these targetable guards in it, they don't smoosh you in one go, and there's no real pats other than more of their own.

When you're a fresh level 110 you will be fairly weak and this spot got an endless stream of couriers that are easy to kill. If you stand in this spot you will have enough time to siphon and eat/drink to regain lost health.

Not sure if this is intended but when i get attacked while channeling Wand of Siphoning i dont get the credit towards the quest / can't do it again on the mobs resulting no credit at all.....

At this moment in time there is a helpful way of doing this in a minute buy utilizing the dagger from Special delivery quest which you get a bit into suramar questline and sitting upstairs at 44.00 - 62-30

Just a quick tip, don't be under the effects of masquerade. You will not be able to siphon the corpses. You will use the item but not receive any Nightwell Energy.

As others have mentioned, killing Nightborne Courier is the fastest way to get this.

Early on in the Suramar City questline, you get the quest Special Delivery. They give you an item, Nightborne Spellblade, which allows you to one-shot the couriers.

Stand at the teleporter in the Sanctum of Order at 44.5, 62.3 and just wait. You will get couriers every few seconds going through the teleporter. One-shot them, and collect their Phial of Nightwell Energy!

I found it best not to be disguised with Masquerade, because sometimes I would get backed up on couriers and have to tag them with a spell.

If you(like me) havent started to properly quest in Suramar yet, i whould recommend the first garden area to do this. If you stay near the stairs leading towards the central city theres a decent ammount of lone guards. Just try avoid the Riders they simple put... suck.

If you're like me and already finished the courier quest which is mentioned in the other posts before getting around to this, I found that the Terrace of Order (around 47, 65) is a fairly easy place to do this. The majority of mobs are Duskwatch Scions and Suramar Loyalists, both of which have around a million HP and are very manageable for lower ilvl chars (I was on an 804 fire mage when I did this)

If your like me and missed out on using Special Delivery. The next best spot for this is the Terrace of Order. More specifically 46.3, 67.95. There are Suramar Loyalists, Duskwatch Scions and High Mage of the Duskwatch there. All of them only have 1 million health and some have instant respawn. Took me about twenty minutes once I found this spot.

Take note that the wand can channel from multiple enemy corpses at once; you don't need to do this one-at-a-time.

There are two loyalists sat playing a board game at 44.8, 66.8, these are on instant respawn (sometimes even respawning before they're dead) so you can constantly chain pull for as long as you need/have resources, then pop your disguise and loot.

Quest done in 10 mins.

Get a group going and head down the stairs at 48,65, at the purple rug. Nightbourne Couriers come running through all the time.

The BEST location for this is at 50, 60 on a quiet walkway up above Lieutenant Strathmar. You can take a lift up to reach it. The couriers come to you, there's no guards, and you can quietly farm till done. I just finished this on 06 September 2016 and it worked beautifully.

I don't know if it's a bug or intended, but you can't do this quest in a group. Or rather, only one person in a group can use the wand on the corpses. Tried using the premade group finder to get help / help some others, and only one of us was able to loot the phials.

Considering there's nothing in the quest description stating to do this quest alone, I'd consider it a bug.

I found a spot at 44,69 that I liked. I was having a difficult time because I kept pulling too many and they were spawning on top of me, not allowing me to drink when I needed to. At this spot there are no pats and you don't aggro them. The spawn quick as well.

The best location to do this (different than where most videos show you) is 50,66 (top floor) - The couriers congregate here from 3 or 4 spawn points, so you will kill them much faster than going to a single spawn point. Took me about 3 minutes to complete this quest at this location, and 2-3 couriers would frequently show up around the same time ( you can tag them with a spell and still kill them with the dagger). It also helps that this location is easier to find since if you end up at the bottom portal looking for it you can just portal up.

If you're farming this while doing the quest Special Delivery, make sure you disable your Nightborne disguise first! I found that I did not get credit for channeling the wand on corpses while I was disguised as one of the Nightborne, but once I disabled that, I was able to get credit as normal.

Furthermore, try to avoid looting the quest items from the dead couriers. As long as you are below 3/3 Stacks of Letters, you are able to simply right-click on the couriers to kill them (bypassing the need to use the knife manually - and more importantly, bypassing the knife's cooldown!).

As others have mentioned, the spot around 44, 63 is an excellent place to do it - simply go into the Sanctum of Order and take one of the teleport pads upstairs. Stand in the middle, between the teleport pads, and let the couriers come to you. If done right, the whole thing should take about 5 minutes max.

Guys - If like me you don't have the Quest "Special Delivery" yet, once in there make your way to 44.8, 66.8 as mentioned.

There are ultra fast spawn rates on the mobs playing chess - BUT AND MORE IMPORTANTLY there is also a Nightborne Wretch that spawns - feed him/her 5 ancient mana and you get a stackable buff which will after 5 goes gives u 50% extra health for 30 mins !

Plus if if it looks like u might die - just jump in the "Inconspicuous Basket" which hides you - and the mobs reset.

Step-by-step instructions on how to do this the EASIEST way.

1. First of all, do not do The Proper Way Of Things until you have the quest Special Delivery. This is the quest where you use the special blade to stab the couriers to get the letters. You pick up this quest from a guy standing next to Vanthir just a couple quests in, once you've been sent to the lower city. (After you feed the nightwine to people.) It's a quest to help find a lost little girl, and the letters will explain what has been happening to her and other citizens.

2. RESIST THE URGE TO LOOT. The moment you pick up 3 letters, you will not be able to do this the easy way any more.

3. Go to The Grand Promenade at 42:61--this is the first entrance to the lower levels you can find when heading down from the Lunastre Estate. It is easy to see the entrance because it has a half-circle plaza in front of it that is lower than everything else around it by a handful of steps.

4. Go in this entrance, and go down 1 flight of stairs to the T-junction. Do not bother going any farther. Stand in the circle on the center of the landing. Do not go down either stairwell, as it is not necessary. At this location, 44:63, you are out of sight of everything that will attack you.

5. Needless to say, you'll want to use your masquerade up until this point. However, if you continue to wear it, you will not be able to siphon anything. Since the ONLY thing that passes through here are the couriers, and they are green when you are in masquerade, but only yellow when you drop your disguise...drop your disguise.

6. You will still be able to use the special dagger, the "Nightborne Spellblade" that you were handed for Special Delivery which Silgryn gave you (the guy next to Vanthir, Silgryn has a bird flapping next to him).

7. DO NOT LOOT. Again, the moment you have 3/3 letters, the blade ceases to function.

8. Because the couriers are now yellow, NOT red, they will NOT attack until you do. If you use any regular attacks, they will be the typical tough Suramarian citizen, and waste your time. Instead, let them pass while you position your camera, without your masquerade disguise on.

9. Position your camera so that it is perfectly level, and aiming along the two hallways, looking from one magical transporter to the other. The reason you will want to do this is because you might accidentally click looting while trying to stab these guys with the special dagger.

10. Turn off auto-loot AND DO NOT LOOT. Srsly, I screwed this up the first time, lol, hence the warnings--if you do accidentally loot, abandon "Special Delivery" from your log, and go pick it back up again. It's a long run, but this is honestly the EASIEST way to do, well, The Proper Way Of Things, ironically.

11. While un-masked, aim at about chest-to-head height (above the head if you're a short race like goblin or gnome or even dwarf). The special dagger becomes a hand-click cursor. And all you have to do is click when each courier runs past. They will insta-die, thanks to the dagger, and the bodies will pile up. Aiming about head-high on a human, to your right and to your left, means your cursor will stay targetted on the couriers, and not accidentally target the loot icon zone. You will want to avoid clicking even accidentally.

12. No, seriously, ignore the loot. Be strong! You can do it! Ignore the loot! You have 50 couriers to kill. You're going to do just fine.

13. The couriers come along in waves of 5 to 12 or so. There will be times when none will come by for what feels like more than half a minute. (Do not loot. I know the sparklies are shiny and you want to touch them. You'll get to do that at the end, no worries.)

14. If you do not loot, the bodies last a long time. Every longish break between waves of couriers, click on the wand in your bags, and siphon off the energies needed to get the book to hopefully help cure Meryl. Then go back to ignoring the shinies and clicking the couriers as they sprint past. Lather, rinse, repeat. (So to speak.)

15. Check your count meter every once in a while, and when you get to 50/50, NOW YOU CAN LOOT.

16. Teleport back to the Hall of Guardians and hand in the quest.

17. Don't forget to go back to the lower city and hand in Special Delivery, too! That poor little girl needs rescuing. (She is a pain in the patootie if things go wrong, but someone else has posted good tips on that one, so you can go read those guides to know what to do.)

18. Enjoy!

Another good spot to do this is in the vineyard. From inside the vineyard area (where the Tattered Silkwing are), you should be able to pull the guards one or two at a time. Their respawn rate is fairly high, shouldn't take you more than fifteen minutes or so and you'll get a bunch of Ancient Mana for your trouble as well.

Yet another place to do this very efficiently is by standing at /way 53.57 51.84 and pulling the nearby group of three adds. They're an instant respawn, so it can be done quite quickly.

Two things to note: be careful of the Suramar Shieldguard that patrols back and forth along the promenade, and you'll almost certainly pull some Frenzied Withered nearby. They're not a major problem, at only 519K HP, they fold about as fast as a 2-7 off-suit in a game of Texas Hold'em. Just something to be aware of.

This quest (and its follow-ups) are not required to complete the main campaign quest line, so don't worry or stress about having to get all the way into Suramar city to continue with the campaign. These quests only unlock the Arcane Destroyer champion, so you can save it for later.

There is a rather silly bug right now that if you start siphoning from corpses you have to make sure it completely finishes. If, for any reason, it does not finish its entire channel then those corpses are unable to be siphoned again. This is rather annoying if you get hit or if you stop to help dps... you lose all of those corpses.

Would only recommend using the wand when EVERYTHING dies.

The reward for the quest line is the order hall champion Arcane Destroyer.

For the people wondering about the character of this quest.

This quest is a reference to a book written by Patrick Rothfuss. The book is called The Slow Regard Of Silent Things. It is about a girl named Auri who lives in the underthing beneath a university. I'm not going to tell you more on the off chance that I might spoil something to even a single person who might read it. To anyone who has an interest in books I really suggest reading this book. It's very dear to my heart :)

A few things I noted on completing this, and gaining The Star's Design, which was accidental. I sort of power leveled my mage with a friend so I ignored my Order Hall campaign until i was 110.

I mistakenly took to the water with my water glider and went around the bay, to the quest point on the map to complete the quest. After I realized my mistake, I went across the water from the map quest point, and headed up the Concourse of Destiny, and through the temple there out onto the Terrace of Order . I looked immediately left and saw a mob, and tried my first syphoning. I continued down the left until I came to a bridge. There are two scion mobs, a High mage and an Inquisitor. I ignored the inquisitor and killed and syphoned the other three, then proceeded to look about as far as where to go for more Nightborne.
Just across the water to the right, there were some. I ignored the bridge and instead hopped in the water and went across. I killed the mage, scion and the inquisitor and then I noted a bunch of Suramar loyalists at tables. What an amazing way to farm for phials. They respawn almost INSTANTLY. The trick, if you have Modera, is to back up almost to the water and get them to run to you, or she'll be freezing every mob that pops up and you'll never get to loot and syphon.I killed them in groups of 3's and syphoned. One of them dropped the hidden appearance. They are very easy to kill . I think this is a great and fast way to farm both The Star's Design Hidden Appearance, and your phials of Nightwell energy.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE I think, that although I have all three artifacts on my mage, I've never equipped Felo'Melorn. I completed the fire challenge in arcane spec. I do have him in my bags, but I am always in Arcane spec and was when I acquired it. I had to switch spec to use it, but I think it's important to note that if you are more comfortable in another spec, you can still get it.

Hope this helps with farming both.

Either Blizzard changed toughness of the quest or my Demonology lock lvl 875 was just too powerful. After all the comments I buffed him way up and it was just not needed. My demon held him, never lost health and after pounding at him for about 2 minutes - done he dead.LOL. Surprisingly easy solo.

Went to the advised place at Terrace of Order and found that the loyalists do not sit at the tables anymore, but they still spawn very fast. I stood in a corner at /way 46.04 66.84. Many mobs were within range without having to pull more than one at a time. If you have flying, just dropping down on this spot makes this about the easiest thing I have done in Suramar.

Estate of the First Arcanist, where you get sent for Thalyssra's Abode, doesn't appear to be in the quest boundary marked on the minimap, but you can still use the wand on the mobs. The mobs are spaced out, giving you time to heal if needed, and you have to kill your way through them anyway. 10/10 would kill 50 mobs again.

A good place to get this is while you're on the Friends in Cages quest.

The Suramar Loyalist's are easy to kill and respawn instantly in groups of two.

If you stand at 45.9 68.1, kill the 2 roaming guards, there are 4 loyalist standing there that have instant responds. You won't pull a bunch of guards. Just stand by the water and pew pew

I've just gone through this quest on my level 120 toon. It's buggy as hell, because after a few siphons you can't get any more stacks. The surest way of doing this was to siphon 2-3 times, log out and repeat. It does add 30-40 seconds, but after killing 2-300 nightborne I think it's the faster way.

I'm doing this on a level 111 alt that hadn't touched Suramar.
Hit the vineyard, killed a few--the wand spell channels but still 0/50 phials.
Figuring it might be a phasing issue, I went and did the opening Suramar quests from Khadgar's Discovery through Arcane Thirst.
So with Thalyssra having set up shop in Shal'aran, I head back to the vineyard, still no joy.
On a whim, logged out and back in--it works! 2/50.
Next mob, nothing.
Logged out and back in again, nothing.
Left Suramar and came back, nothing.
I'm stuck at 2/50 and out of ideas :-(

For all you achievement hunters that are doing this because you doing the quest for the order hall on your mage alt.

Go to the Terrace of Order section of Suramar city. Exact cords are 45.69 - 67.03. Kill the Suramar loyalist that's sitting at the table and the one next to it. They instantly respawn as soon as you kill both of them, a slight chance that they will drop something but you need the kills more then drops. Saves a lot of time running around trying to find a cluster of them.

none of the courier spawns seem to be away from other aggros.

I found a couple of tables of fast spawns of Suramar Loyalist; stood at 44.14 69.34 and killed them as they spawned, finished in 5 minutes or so

It seems broken now.
Stuck at 0/50, and I got the wand to do the siphon action, but nothing counts.
I tried the guys playing chess as in the comments, and they won't count either.
No kills anywhere count. It's just stuck at 0/50 and cannot be done.

I've killed more than 50 and have got just two energy. I'm making sure I'm not in disguise when I start combat. The wand seems to work OK, but I get no energy.

Definitely broken. I've just spent a couple of hours in the city. I was counting - I've killed seventy assorted Nightbourne without the wand working once. I'm stationary and not disguised when trying to use it.

Can only specific Nightbourne be siphoned? Do I have to stand anywhere in particular relative to the body? Does the wand only work in certain locations?

The best spot I found was 54:63 where Ambassador D'vwinn is located. There are 3 groups of 5 weak sycophants that respawn quickly. You may want to be able to fly first.

Doesn't work in Dungeons or Raids, world content only. Don't forget to use the wand after killing the unit! Doesn't work on demons or mechanicals and can AOE siphon. If you move or cancel it then the corpses will still be marked as "used" by the item.

Now that the content is trivial, if the Sycophants WQ is up at 54,63 then that's a good way to get fast kills that respawn quickly in batches of 5.

Best way to do this quest is killing the Suramar Loyalists at 44.74, 66.68 in the Terrace of Order. They are on a hyperspawn and work conistently with the wand of siphoning

This is bugged in DF, but I was able to get it to work reliably killing the Loyalist Sycophant near Ambassador D'vwinn and then waiting until their death animations finished, and then activating the wand.

It seems like it bugs out and fails if you activate it too quickly.

After struggling to find mobs that worked for this, I hit on the Evermoon Bazaar - the market area around Suramar City, /way 49 77 Duskwatch Higblades and Orbitists.

Lots of patrols, and you can use the wand on virtually all the corpses.

If you want to complete this quest quickly, travel to Suramar /way 44.9 66.9.
There are a few Suramar Loyalists that hyperspawn there. They have low hitpoints and do almost no damage to you. Kill 2-3, use the Wand of Siphoning, repeat until you get 50. Should only take 5 minutes tops.

REMIX ONLY (as far as i'm aware) - if you're in a hurry for completing the mage order hall, broken shore follower and mount campaigns before the event ends, fear not! you can freely skip this quest and and all of ari's subsequent quests and still complete the class hall campaign! you do not need the arcane destroyer follower! source: myself, just got my disc without touching this questline at all.

Description

Archmage Khadgar is my friend. That he trusts you means much. I know of the book in which you seek, but it does not want to be found. It is old and angry and thirsts for power. We will have to convince it to emerge from hiding in the proper way. Perhaps if you bring it a gift of nightwell energy from the nightborne elves in Suramar City it will be mollified.
