Stromgarde Keep is located in Arathi Highlands.

For Horde: Undercity portal from Dalaran is an easy choice. Dalaran crater is a more adventurous choice.
For Alliance: Ironforge Portal from Dalaran is an easy choice. Dalaran crater is a more adventurous choice.

The fastest portal from Dalarn is the portal to the Dalaran crater. This will put you much closer than even the Undercity portal for Horde, since you don't have to navigate the sewers and/or elevator.

Take portal from Dalaran to Dalaran crater and fly to Arathi Highlands, Stromgrade located in southwest part of the map.
Entrance to the castle is at 19.4 65.7 point, get in and find Prince Galen Trollbane on the second floor.

I love this quest chain. Particularly the initial dialogue.
Thassarian: “The world will cry out in anger against us, but the air that fills their lungs will have been bought with the price of our souls”
Nazgrinm: Nothing shall stand in our way”. “I am waiting”.
Trollbane: For what purpose do you intrude upon my kingdom, Death Knight? Speak quickly, for I have little patience…”

What I did find interesting is it’s not entirely intuitive how to get to Prince Galen Trollbane.
On the lower entrance the left one is blocked, and you have to work your way around and then up the right and through the stairs the old fashioned way, or if you have flying you can fly up to the top ramparts and just work your way down to him.

Once you’ve met Trollbane’s requirements you get Rigicide.
Thassarian: “Galen Trollbane is a fool if he thinks that he can betray the Ebon Blade.
I have had enough of his games. The fallen prince wastes our time playing the king of a ruined throne, while heroes sacrifice their lives to save this world.
If Galen Trollbane will not open the tomb of his father, the we must take the sword and do it ourselves.
If he chooses to resist, so be it”

Just to clarify, you will die from falling if you don't bring a glider. It's easier just to go to Undercity. Save you the hassle of wasting time.

I wasted a lot of time as I ran around looking for how to start this quest, and no - my level was not an issue. I am late starting my DK Class Hall and am already 110.

For those not knowing how to proceed, no matter when the Lich King talks to you about making King Trollbane a champion, don't worry about starting anything until Highlord Darion Mograine appears next to your Scouting Map with this quest for you.

He was not there with the quest after the Lich King spoke about it, and that is when I went to where the LK said to go, Stormgarde Keep, looking for the next step. When I gave up and came back to my Class Hall, Highlord Darion Mograine was standing there with my quest.

I suppose if I had merely logged out and back in he would have been there and I could have saved myself a lot of trouble.

FYI you can still complete this quest after Stromgarde was ruined.

Go over to the bridge that connects Arathi Highlands to Wetlands, coordinates 38.25, 90.08 - and talk to the NPC there. You can request to see Arathi the way it was before, and the castle Prince Galen Trollbane is supposed to be in will re-appear.

Now the Dalaran portals have been removed and they're only visible if your quest specifically mentions taking a portal, the Dalaran crater option is only available if you get a mage portal.

Flying out from Undercity is probably the fastest way.

If you're level 120 and it happens that your faction is controlling Arathi Highlands, then you can just take the portal there.

ALLIANCE: Start from Stormwind / HORDE: Start from the Undercity:

BEFORE YOU GO TO THE QUEST, GET INTO THE CORRECT TIMELINE:

Then proceed thru the quests: /way Arathi Highlands 19.4 65.7 Stromgarde Keep

You'll arrive at a old grey keep. Go inside and head up the stairs and then up and around a ramp-- for returning players, you did a quest here when you first started your DK; it should look familiar. He'll acknowledge you, will grant ya access if you do a kill-and-collect quest for him. There's two quests available; everything is in the same area anyway. So there's no surprises-- there's several 110 (Elite/Gold Circle) roaming in the old village, so multiple mobs, but they're easy to kill. Then return to the SAME LOCATION (Blizzard likes to mix it up, but not in the case thankfully) and turn it in.

He'll betray you, of course and sic the guards on you before running out. Talk to Thassarian to pick up the next quest: REGICIDE.

Important: when doing the quest in DF you will be directed through portals until you arrive by Zidormi outside of Lordaeron Keep.

This is NOT the Zidormi you are looking for.

Instead, fly down to the very southern part of Arathi Highlands and speak to Zidormi @ 38.25, 90.08 (thanks to PPs for pointing this out).

If you come here in 2025 and see the "wrong" version of Stromgarde but Zidormi is not giving you any options to "request to see Arathi the way it was before", you might need to complete the intro quests to Battle For Azeroth. For Horde, this meant traveling with Nathanos to Zandalar and establishing the embassy.

This could be relevant for new players, characters or alts who just haven't completed the pre-reqs yet.

This quest is currently bugged for me in Legion Remix, I take the portal Darion Mograine creates, am teleported to Stromgarde partially in the air, dropped to the floor and as soon as I hit the floor I am teleported back to Dalaran (like how the Out of Time debuff does when you're outside the timerunning area). It doesn't matter how many times I do this, how many phase altering quests I complete, etc. Same result, every time. Interestingly enough while on the quest, even taking the portal in Dalaran to Stormwind teleports me to the same spot as Darion Mograine's portal, with the EXACT same results, being teleported back to Dalaran. This has rendered my order hall in Legion Remix uncompletable and the response I received from a GM is OUTRAGEOUS, they obviously didn't even care to READ the issue at hand, see screenshot below:

++ LEGION REMIX ++ I had a problem finding my way to submit the quest to the prince. It always wanted me to go to kharazan and from there I had to fly 9,4k to the quest which didn't work as I was leaving timeline.

That's how I did it: Go into the portal room in Dalaran and take the portal to dalaran crate. You will fall into the crate but should survive this. Now you have to be fast. Mount up and fly to the point where the quest is. It will say you're leaving the timeline, just fly as fast as you can so you won't get teleported back. At some point when you're in the arathi highlands you are safe and can end the quest.

Maybe it's just me who's been to stupid to get there, maybe it's something I did wrong, maybe something is bugging for me. I don't know, but maybe this is helpful to some of y'all.

The 'porting back to Dalaran for 50+ players bug' seems to have been fixed as of today. I warped to the zone without any issue and completed the questline without being ported back to Dalaran. Happy grinding yall

Quest works again (October 15.)

Either Blizz fixed it or because the Arathi Highlands is currently in the Warfront attack phase for my faction (Alliance).

If a Horde player is reading this and it doesn't work yet, just wait until it's your turn again.

In Remix, I got to the Regiside part of this questline, but it bugged and the gate to the crypt didn't open. I was stupid enough to HS back to Dala in one of my atempts to fix it, and now I cant get back there.. quite annoying

If you're doing this in Legion Remix and you port away from the Arathi Highlands before finishing the questline...

Take portal from Dalaran to Dalaran crater, then fly as fast as you can to the Arathi Highlands to avoid getting ported away. If you fly very fast you can make it back.

A couple of updates since I’m just now doing this quest in 2025 after coming back from years away:

Note, I am level 70 doing this (max is currently 80) — unsure what the minimum level would be for this; people noted in old comments that the NPC didn’t work for them until they hit a certain level.

A few things are also different regarding portals, etc. I don’t think the Dalaran crater stuff is around anymore.

Anyway.

-If you go straight to Stormgarde keep from Acherus, you will wind up walking around a nice little building being told to go upstairs by whatever map add on you’re using, and there are no stairs up or down, and no NPCs. You’re not crazy. Don’t do this. To avoid this:

-You need to speak to Zidormi to basically timewalk back to pre-war Arathi. This will change the landscape and you’ll then return to a significantly more dilapidated building, but there will be stairs and a ramp up to the top floor where your NPCs will appear (Thassarian, Prince Galen, and whoever else)

-Zidormi is located just across the bridge from Dun Modr. Right next to that flight point is a bridge from Wetlands to Arathi. Cross it and she will be off to the left. For me, she was brightly illuminated.

-Talk to Zidormi to get sent back in time, and then go to Stormgarde and you’ll find your people.

-Go through the quest chain fully. Get both quests even if both don’t have the campaign shield; you won’t get the next one (Regicide I think) if you don’t. You’ll have to kill some stuff, defile some crates, bring back a guy’s head. The area is small and next door. Very easy.

-Turn in your quests. Then bro gets pissed and runs off and all the friendly guard and citizen NPCs will become hostile. Fight your way out and find him nearby. Slay him to get the sword, then meet your bros in the crypt and raise the dead king as a new death knight.

-He will open a death gate which you can use to go back to Acherus to turn in and get the next quest which is to rescues another guy from Undercity. You’re better off using your own Death Gate however, because you’ll want to come right back to Stormgarde.

-Cast your own DG, turn in, pick up the rescue quest, and then DG back out to Stormgarde/Arathi. From there it’s a short flight towards Silverpine, and the quest phase will begin as soon as you get close to the location to meet Thassarian. Do that quest, another DG appears, use that and turn it in.

-Why did I go through all these next steps? Zidormi. Because NOW you need to make sure you go BACK to Zidormi real quick using your own DG / fly there / port around or whatever combination works best for you. Get back to her and have her reset the timeline to present. You may notice while you’re in Acherus that your Dalaran portal is gone. *If you don’t go back and have her send you back to the present, your portal from Acherus to Legion Dalaran will not re-appear* So if it’s gone — don’t panic (I know it’s a pain to figure out how to get it on a boosted DK as I learned when I made a second DK lol) — just go back to Zidormi and ask to be returned to the present timeline. You’re then good to go from there; the next couple of quests are dungeon drops and one at the class hall table.

So trying to finish the order-hall campaign on a new account (long story)
My character is boosted to 80 and now max level to 90 on Midnight, I can't progress this quest due to the phase of the game not matching with the quest, even when I speak with Zidormi it isn't working to phase it back to the castle being there, instead there is a patch of dirt and npcs roaming and floating (yes floating buggy) and not similar to the NPCs that should be there.

I have tried everything, I started the war campaign from BFA to get the option to phase, and it isn't working properly
Any suggestions?

To all Midnight players who only see an empty area and flying NPCs:

I'm level 90 and my wife is level 35, and we just finished the quests. We were both standing outside Undercity (though I can't say if that's relevant) and did the following:

Ask a friend below level 40 to invite you. They will then need to sync your quest log. You'll get a pop-up to confirm the sync. After that, you can return to Arathi Highlands. The castle, the trolls, and everything else should now be back to normal.

Bittet einen Freund unter Stufe 40, euch einzuladen. Er muss dann euer Questlog synchronisieren. Ihr erhaltet ein Pop-up zur Bestätigung der Synchronisierung. Danach könnt ihr ins Arathihochland zurückkehren. Die Burg, die Trolle und alles andere sollten nun wieder normal sein.

I fixed the bug by party-syncing(and keep it for the quest-chain) with a 10lvl dk on a starter edition account. hope this helps,,,

Description

So the Lich King has revealed the second of the Four Horsemen... it appears that not even kings may rest as the world burns around them.

So be it, Deathlord.

I will send Nazgrim and Thassarian to meet you at the fallen kingdom of Stromgarde.

Prince Galen Trollbane holds the key to the tomb of his father, a famous sword known as Trol'kalar. In order to raise the king as the second of the Four Horsemen, we will need to gain entrance to the tomb.
