this is kinda misleading. You do not get the coins from the "first heroic draenor dungeon each day". you get them from the first RANDOM HEROIC each day.

This is clearly a ploy by Blizzard to keep geared players doing dungeons and thus help the not so geared.

First off, apologies for spamming across all pertinent quests.

Part of the quest series to reward Heirloom upgrade tokens from doing random Heroic Dungeons in Draenor (first one of the day, per character).

Start with Mystery Notebook, turning it in to Krom Stoutarm in Ironforge who will then give the quests (in order, listed for convenience):
Numismatics which rewards Ancient Heirloom Armor Casing after turning in 5 Misprinted Draenic Coin.
Completionism which rewards Timeworn Heirloom Armor Casing after turning in 10 Misprinted Draenic Coin.
A Curious Oddity which rewards Ancient Heirloom Scabbard after turning in 25 Misprinted Draenic Coin.
The Same, But Different which rewards Timeworn Heirloom Scabbard after turning in 50 Misprinted Draenic Coin.

Some things to note:

You only get Misprinted Draenic Coin from the first random Heroic Dungeon each day, and they seem to drop 1-5 (usually 2 or 3, though) coins.
Even if you have any of the collection quests completed but NOT turned in, you can still get coins in the Heroic Dungeon. That is, you queued and went in, THEN realized you haven't turned in one collection quest and received the next – not to worry, you will get coins!
This might not seem like a lot, but for people with multiple characters grinding away, you will notice your heirlooms "leveling up" fairly quickly.
In fact, you will continue to get coins even after the final quest – which is NOT repeatable. (source: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/16412041719?page=4#78)

Correct. They have no use once you've completed the final quest.

Btw, does anyone know if is this is still somehow completable in Legion? I just realised I still have this quest, got 9/10 coins. Would be nice to finish what I started :)

So, what about now that we're in Legion and at level 110 you can't queue for Random Draenor (or Legion) heroics?

Trying it on Random BeefAss Dungeon now, will update what happens ...

Don't kow why it happened, but I just got 6 coins from one (first) random heroic run. Here are parts from the chat window:
        You receive item:.
        Heart of Azeroth gains 150 Artifact Power.
        Received 140 Gold, 40 Silver.
        You receive item: Misprinted Draenic Coinx6.
I had 6 coins before this run, and now I have all of them for the Completionism.

And one more interesting thing: after I turned in this quest, got Timeworn Heirloom Armor Casing and accepted the next quest A Curious Oddity, the two extra coins from the above (6+6=12 instead of 10) immediately appeared in the progress of that next quest, so it started from 2/25.

Currently not receiving the coins from Random Shadowlands Heroic.

Answer from Blizzard support: "This problem is known and awaiting QA review. Customer support do not have a workaround or authorization to intervein at this time."
Hopefully we will be able to complete this quest with Random Shadowlands Heroic soon.

Description

Interesting - the coins you've brought back from your Garrison are slightly different than the ones Nolan collected in Outland. Y'see here, the markings along the edge? Very interesting stuff! This requires some more study an' that means more coins! Bring them to me and I'll see if I can scrounge up something for your trouble.
